KEVIN Rudd says he was alerted to potential safety problems with the government’s home insulation program as early as August 2009 and will be subjected to Opposition questioning on the matter next week.
The Prime Minister was forced to give a detailed run down of his knowledge of problems with the scheme in parliament today, conceding he received notification about compliance issues on August 14 last year.

So he knew since August and he did nothing. Meanwhile he led a delegation of 135 to the Copenhagen Climate Haj.
It’s clear he isn’t fit to be PM. He ought to just go quietly and be done with it.

Seriously, this dweeb can’t tie his shoe laces together.
I’m not kidding, it’s going to get to the stage where the voters panic every time he announces some new policy or threatens to role up his sleeves and work harder (we can’t afford to have him work harder).

The insulation scheme has now eclipsed the cane toad for bad ideas. We’ll be undoing this mess for decades.

12 Mar 10 at 12:59 am
Yes, he is starting to scare me. I am normally pro-nuclear energy, but if Rudd is the guy who brings it in I fear the entire country will have to be made a quarantine zone. We’ll have a “Chernobyl” incident every other month under this joker. He’s the reverse Midas Touch PM – everything turns to shit.
Michael Fisk
12 Mar 10 at 1:20 am
By the way, I wonder if any Keynesian economists are going to claim that the cost of cleaning up Rudd’s mess, e.g. unwiring the live foil insulation, will itself be a “stimulus” to the economy. It’s the logical extension of their basic argument that building useless shit stimulates the economy. Paying people to knock it down must also be stimulatory. And if not, why not?
Michael Fisk
12 Mar 10 at 1:27 am
Indeed Fisk, you will recall that the prescription was not just to dig holes, but to fill them back up!
It will be interesting to see where this story leads. Perhaps KRudd will say he’s already apologised and we should now move on.

The linked article itself notes that he was notified on August 14 and changes were approved in Cabinet on August 17.

What are you suggesting ?
all installations are banned?
It is the responsibility of the companies involved to have the appropriate safety standards.
The standards that were called for were higher than those previously used.
Actually we now know this produced much less fires in the industry.
If you wish to ban industries because of loss of life then no-one would be mining coal.

“What are you suggesting ?
all installations are banned?”
Simply refraining from massively subsidising known dangerous activities would suffice.
Greego
12 Mar 10 at 10:50 am
so you are for banning all mining activities.
They are of course much more dangerous than the installation of homes.
nice to know that.
Butterfield, Bloomfield & Bishop
12 Mar 10 at 10:57 am
Banning subsidies, yes. Banning mining, no. Ignoring the shit economics of it, artificially sending demand through the roof for a known risky industry is clearly irresponsible and the idiots deserve all the political backlash they’ve copped.

Hey Homer, as the resident neo-nazi Keynesian economist can you please answer what Fisk was asking.
That was, is the clean up of this insulation policy shambles also stimulatory too?

C.L.
12 Mar 10 at 12:07 pm
Homer
You nimrod. Possum is a bigger numbskull than you are. His/her fact finding infers that the more botched insulation jobs the less fires.
Here, dick for brains:
There were 67,500 homes being insulated before Lurchgate. Lurch says they insulated 1,100,000 homes under the Lurchgate insulation policy..
There were around 90 odd fires before Lurchgate and around the same during the Lurchgate fiasco.
That numbnut possum is suggesting that Lurchgate has caused less fires by atound times the previous amount.
90/67,000
90/1,100,000
There are only two people in the world that would believe that. That’s you and Possum.
You innumerate nimbus, homer.
JC

Every house burned down reduces future fire risk. I believe this is one of Keynes central points.
Infidel Tiger
12 Mar 10 at 12:20 pm
hahahahahahahah
That’s right, Infidel. It’s the Lurchgate Keynesian multiplier at work. The more houses burn down the less fires in the future.
Soon enough Rudd, Swandive and Tanner will be using that excuse to justify the fuckup.
On a serious note there was a house that burned down near where my parents live as a result of this fiasco.

I wonder if Kevvie knew that this scheme would go fubar and let it happen to roll Lurch. Lurch is Latrham’s creature. Kevvie probably wishes he had a designer bespectacled technocratic robot in that chair so he sets Lurch up.
.
Lurch has been busy proving he’s a ‘professional’. He does this by kicking the Greens in the head in the last Vic State Election and fucking the environment for the ALP’s mates every chance he gets. Now he wants to establish credibility. So along comes Kevvie’s Keynsian Spend-A-Thon and Lurch gets the brilliant idea to tie in the Bribe The Blue Collar Voters programme with the Latte Dreaming.
.
Trouble is Lurch never had a real job and has no idea. He sets up a bullshit scheme and it goes fubar and now he cops it sweet. being the Minister for Dog Poo Collection Services. When the election rolls around this will be ancient history, Kevvie will get up again and afterwards he’ll quietly sneak into the kitchen and gather some knives to stick in Lurch’s back.
.
Wonder if Lurch’ll feel it much. Will he start ringing Bob Brown for clandestine dinners? A Cheryl Kernot in reverse?
