I recommend that the stimulus package in its current format be rejected by the Senate. In my opinion, the package does not contain enough stimulus relative to the spending that it contains, and the spending that it does contain is of poor quality.

… if there is $16.2bn to spend we want value for our money. The way it’s being handled at the moment means we end up spending $16.2bn and we get infrastructure worth about $7bn and no one in government seems to know where the other $9-odd billion is going.

  2. Picture the current government like the third generation inheriting the previous generations wealth.

    Hawke/Keating, Howard/Costello Governments do all the heavy lifting to improve Australia and Rudd/Swann blow it all in less than 3 years.

    Keynesian policies are debunked over and over and yet because it make politicians seen to be “doing something/anything” governments love it.

  3. Hey but abbott is frightened of gays and Joyce added private and public debt. That’s far more important that spending $16 billion and only receiving $7 billion of value.

  9. Justifiably, Abbott calls for BER responsibilities to be taken away from Gillard.

    And a good call from Chris Pyne:

    Mr Abbott made his remarks shortly before his education spokesman Christopher Pyne told The Australian Online that all school hall rip-offs under the BER should be published on the internet, like school results on the My School website.

    “If it’s good for the goose it’s good for the gander and Julia Gillard should require the states to publish their school hall rip-off costings immediately,” he said.

    “That will give us a full knowledge of the extent to which taxpayers are being ripped off.

    “The reason we know about NSW is because their school hall rip off costings have been published. All the other states are hiding theirs.”

    WasteWatch – I know Homer will support such a idea.

  17. That is a good painting. I saw it, or at least a good copy, in the Ballarat Art Gallery a few weeks ago – eventually Mrs D came up and said, ‘having a perv are we?’. :)
