The SMH makes an interesting claim (emphasis added).
The Herald obtained economic modelling by KPMG Econtech which shows a 2 per cent company tax rise would increase inflation by 0.5 per cent and boost prices by between 0.2 per cent and 0.9 per cent.
…
The modelling, commissioned by the government, says a 2 percentage point company tax increase, if passed on to consumers, would push up the prices for food, clothing and footwear, transport, recreation and household contents and services by 0.5 per cent.
So the ALP are leaking government commissioned and taxpayer financed research to the newspapers for political purposes? It doesn’t worry me that the government commissioned research into the Abbott proposal, but it does worry me that the ALP are using government property as their own. It is not their report to give out as they choose.

It is not their report to give out as they choose.
.
Yes. And in my experience Labor party people really don’t get why that is.

actually the article is ambiguous.
did the government or the ALP commission the work?
If it were the government why wouldn’t they simply use Treasury which has been used for yonks by governments to dump on Opposition policies?
Maybe they have and the KPMG work is better for their argument.

Wern’t Ken and a few other people worried a few posts back (indeed in many posts) that information paid for by the public wasn’t getting released (in that case global warming data). Perhaps you should be happy that things get leaked — and even happier when they don’t have to be.

There is no getting away from the fact that this policy is yet another reason that a vote for Abbott involves considerable nose-holding.
“It doesn’t worry me that the government commissioned research into the Abbott proposal, but it does worry me that the ALP are using government property as their own. It is not their report to give out as they choose.”
Let’s not get too precious about political SOPs enjoyed by both sides.

I understand it’s SOP – it’s also theft.

It’s intellectual property, breach of copyright at the most. the crime isn’t the leaking of some stuff, it’s the hiding of the rest.

Pedro – that’s yet another crime.

But it’s a different crime! Actually, is it a crime or a private wrong? Also, might there be fair use exemptions for material of that sort. I’m not so sure.

It’s misappropriation of public assets for private benefit. I’m sure that’s covered somewhere. The real problem is that nobody with standing will complain.

That’s cause we all enjoy the leaks we like.

There are leaks and leaks.

Doesn’t increases in the money supply cause inflation, not increases in the company tax rate?
