It’s misappropriation of public assets for private benefit. I’m sure that’s covered somewhere. The real problem is that nobody with standing will complain.

But it’s a different crime! Actually, is it a crime or a private wrong? Also, might there be fair use exemptions for material of that sort. I’m not so sure.

It’s intellectual property, breach of copyright at the most. the crime isn’t the leaking of some stuff, it’s the hiding of the rest.

There is no getting away from the fact that this policy is yet another reason that a vote for Abbott involves considerable nose-holding.

“It doesn’t worry me that the government commissioned research into the Abbott proposal, but it does worry me that the ALP are using government property as their own. It is not their report to give out as they choose.”

Let’s not get too precious about political SOPs enjoyed by both sides.

Wern’t Ken and a few other people worried a few posts back (indeed in many posts) that information paid for by the public wasn’t getting released (in that case global warming data). Perhaps you should be happy that things get leaked — and even happier when they don’t have to be.
