Wayne Swan discussing Kevin Rudd
I do believe that he’s an honourable person
Mark Antony discussing Julius Caesar (as per William Shakespeare)
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones.
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious.
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answered it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest —
For Brutus is an honorable man,
So are they all, all honorable men

Et tu, Wayne?

You know that of course because you did Will and O’Rourke in English lit as your major at the carpentry academy?
You’ve really got poison running through your veins, hey? 100% poison.

Much as it is tempting to engage with you in pleasantly exchanging banalities JC I will have to leave you to enjoy your obvious superiority in same.

Rog’s mastery of English literature has come a long way since he chastised me for writing “It’s not the case …” when – he assured me – the correct rendering was “Its not the case …”
The apostrophe: it’s a real challenge to master its usage, isn’t it, Rog?

… Kerry O Brien….”and I quote the PM Julia Gillard …’blah blah blah’…”
Abbot: “that’s all good and well but you’re NOT Julia Gillard, Kerry…”
“Much as it is tempting to engage with you in pleasantly exchanging banalities…”
Come on now, you should finish what you start…

Rog – I don’t understand your comment. Mark Antony never said those words, Shakespeare attributed them to him. You do know that? Don’t you?

But is Swan Cassius to Gillard’s Brutus? Who will speak for the fallen Rudd? And who will avenge Rudd as Octavian did?

As Octavian avenged Caesar

The USA declared a public holiday in honour of one of its heroes in Martin King. Why don’t we do the same and honour Kevin Rudd? We could have symbolic political executions. Picture it if you will… a poor lone figure is approached by a cabal and ring is formed around that lone figure. The cabal departs and what is left is the lone figure with knives protruding from his back.
Maybe a postage stamp or coin in honour of Kevin? A urinal? A bus shelter? I’m floundering here so help me out.

Let’s hope the ALP is not hiding an Octavian amongst all the deadbeats!

Sid,
A burning house? I’m sure some appropriate poetry could be written around that.
“How do we sleep while our homes are burning?”
Hmmm – the metre needs a little work.

We could use an Octavian.
.
I know that Kevin Rudd is an evil robot sent from Rigel 7 to infect the planet with bad suits and CK eyewear but I really don;t think he’s done anything bad enough to have Swan call him honourable. The kiss of death.

Doubt it – it’s an obvious connection.

I dunno, I see a lot of stories here first that end up at Bolt’s. However I don’t think he’s ripping catallaxy off. he takes tips from readers and it’s possible that some of his regular tipsters lurk here. In other cases, it’s just the story of the moment and everyone’s talking about it.
In this particular instance I don’t think the connection is that obvious other than in hindsight, or Swan would not have said it.

We need an Octavian to clean out the present mess. Efficiently. Ruthlessly.
