  4. Very relevant to what I think happened with Wilkie. I think he negotiated in bad faith with the Coalition under direction from Labor in an effort to trap the Coalition to agree to a spending proposal that was clearly excessive.

  5. Surely the coalition couldn’t be that stupid as to think he would ever actually support them anyway. Surely they were only negotiating with him in order to show their good intentions to the 3 independents that they have a chance of convincing?

  7. Yep, it was a sting all right. So was the demand for Abbott to have his policies costed. None of these independents had any motive other than to trap Abbott and undermine his credibility for financial management.

  8. I also suspect that in Wilkie’s multiple meetings, he was reporting what the Coalition was offering to Labor for the express purpose of allowing Labor to craft a cheaper tender.

So it wasn’t really a stiny in Newman and Redford sense. It was just Wilkie being a dishonest coward as usual.

  10. I would have thought it was pretty obvious that Wilkie was always going to side with the ALP. If for no other reason than his electorate is usually ALP. And then their his well known political leanings.

So why did Abbott agree? He would have looked more pm material if he had given it careful consideration and then promised to come up with a serious evaluation. This now makes him look cavalier.
