Clowns to the left, jokers to the right: poetry in motion

In keeping with the spirit of Dorothea McKellar, this little poem has fallen into my lap:

I love a stable country,
A land of yapping greens;
Of loony independents
And backroom Labor schemes.

I love her knifed Prime Minister
And his replacement, real and fake.
So many odd ingredients
That I’m not sure about the cake.

  2. From Jason’s thread.

I never knew SwanDive was so honest about things. I always thought of him as a dishonest, clueless. moronic little rodent.

However he has this to say:

choked on my cornflakes when Wayne Swan said: “it’s not about the votes (the coalition having more seats, a greater primary and two party preferred) at all – this is about providing the country with stable government”.
    How democratic Mr Swan.

  3. “In keeping with the spirit of Dorothea McKellar”

No, the spirit is utterly different.

What you’re meant to say is “with apologies to Dorothea McKellar…”.

  6. Rubbish CL, Joh B-J wouldn’t say that. He’d say, “Don’t you worry about that”.

  9. FDB’s pedanticism aside, not a bad little poem. Nice work.

    Heh.

    That’s real ironical.

  12. As SL’s post acknowledges, the tradition of apologising for using the form and cadence of a previous poetic work is about more than pedatry – it’s the correct form for giving credit where due and for ensuring no harm is done to the reputation of the original.

    Also, I’m a pedantic fuck.
