Ongoing shocks around Christchurch

A scary map that show the battering that Christchurch has continued to suffer since the first big shock.

The figure in the first column appears to be the strength on the Richter scale.

  1. Rafe,
You are right, that is scary. There will be a lot of work for (inter alia) surveyors over the next few months sorting out where the land had changed.
The value destruction must be huge.
One silver lining – it would be unlikely that this are will move again for a while after this lot calms down.

  2. Just one small correction – my guess is that the person that put this together is a seismologist. If so, he would have been using the newer MMS measurement.
    No real difference.

  4. Poor baggers mustn’t have known if they were coming or going. Even more amazingly no one was killed.

  6. It looks scary, but in reality, 80% of Christchurch is effectively intact. No-one died. Will cost lots to fix up, but it’s another over-blown “disaster” promoted by media and politicians.
