Tony Windsor has threatened to push for an early election if Labor change leaders. Maybe he’s trying to claw back a bit of respect in New England so that he can walk the streets back home in relative safety when he’s dumped from Parliament, as he surely will be come the election.

Given what we currently can see as potential sources of energy, and the length of time involved in replacing existing power sources, there is not much chance of the free market dealing with climate change without some involvement of government to skew things towards faster adoption of clean energy. Because the libertarian right hates the government doing anything, they are useless on climate change, and would rather devote their time to dismissing the idea that anything need be done at all.

Their legacy in 30 years time will, I expect, be looked back on with bitterness.

Um yeah sure. We’re not looking back on our policy agenda since 1990 bitterly. Why would we bother about a certain 0.2 degrees temperature rise?

That’s a max sea level rise of 16 cm. Any country threatened by this will cease to exist in the next tropical storm.

Not enough attention is paid to the ‘why’ of Obama’s Hitlerian attack on Christianity, specificially in relation to contraception. And people who aren’t mental midgets and morons also wonder why the hell any employer should pay for workers’ contraception.

The explanation is quite simple. The Democrat Party is wedded – nay, welded – to an extreme anti-natalist ideology whose signature dogma is passionate hatred and fear of human sexuality and fecundity. Institutionally allied to Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International – both organisations founded by ‘feminist icons’ who also happened to be white supremacists and Nazi sympathisers – the anti-natalists bitterly resent that pregnancy continues to prevent women from the ‘freedom’ of being as much like men as possible. Indeed, they almost literally regard pregnancy as an illness. This is why Obama opposed legislation designed to prevent accidentally un-aborted babies from being murdered, and why he insists that health insurance schemes cover the cost of combatting the natural disease of fecundity. Force is important for the anti-natalists because by imposing their dogma they satisfy themselves that they have successfully ‘won’ the debate about what, and who, women are – and should be. The Catholic Church was targeted because of its role in health care and its powerful indifference to secular ideology. It had to be humiliated for the ‘win’ to be real to them.

Obama did this because he is filled with fear and hatred, as are the feminist extremists advising him (like his hate-mongering wife).

We should also remember that leftist anti-natalism works hand in hand with gay lobby extremism. Homosexualists also hate fecundity, though with the idiosyncratic feature of hating it because it points to the axiomatic familial supremacy of heterosexuality. As a result of their success, policy-wise, the Church has already had to close some of the oldest and most successful adoption agencies in the United States. So the party of Bobby Kennedy (11 children) now officially believes that children can and should be murdered, that the extremist organisations that do the murdering should be subsidised by the state, that pregnancy is an illness and that the only families worth waxing sentimental about are the gay ‘families’ whose very existence destroys (they hope) the idea of women as designedly fecund, unchangeably different to – for the anti-natalists, inferior to – men.

Finally, an explanation of timing seems important. Well, the fact is support for abortion – for women’s right to ‘choose’ – has been plummeting for years. Almost every pollster has found that majorities now oppose abortion outright or oppose it in most situations. Added to this – and, to some extent, driving it – is science. The science of ultra-sound, the science of premmy medicine, the science of genetics (and all it tells us about who we are as persons, in utero and ab initio). The old ‘abortion on demand’ slogan of feminists has been abandoned. The old ‘just a clump of cells’ line has been discreetly binned. On science, the pro-abortion lobby has lost. On morality – in the public’s eyes – they have lost. It goes without saying that the holdout extremists have an especially livid hatred for the one institution that, above all, fought their despicable ideology. That was the Catholic Church. Corrupting the law – taking this and associated anti-natalist dogma – out of the public agora and enforcing them by fiat is the measure of both their loathing and also their epic failure.

I didn’t read the FOX thread. I dare say there was much cynicism about black American culture – which has become drug-addled, mawkish, talentless, crass and ugly. It wouldn’t have helped that sleazeball Jesse Jackson (the man revealed to have fathered a baby with his young mistress while he was ‘counselling’ Bill Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal) was up on the podium.

I am wondering if one of the questions we can pose to Greg is how innovative we need to be to address the issues with manufacturing such that it is no longer cheaper to ship things like this to China to resolve problems:

OF all the engineering challenges involved in modern rail transport, installing seats in carriages should be one of the easiest.
After all, seats are relatively simple structures and have no great bearing on a train’s power supply, propulsion or directional dynamics. They’re just seats.

Measure the space, design the seats, assemble them and bolt them in. A competent team of NSW TAFE students should be able to knock this one over in a few weeks.

In fact, such a project would have been excellent real-world practice for our talented TAFE engineers. Instead, in a remarkable decision, two entire Waratah trains are being shipped all the way to China to have seats fitted. Then the whole massive tonnage of completed trains will be shipped back to NSW. At one level, it’s an astonishing example of comparative trade disadvantage.

According to the company responsible for the trains locally, it is actually cheaper to send the trains on an 18,000km round trip for fitting rather than do the work here.

I’m sure Greg will blame it all on the exchange rate…

Even conservative polticians were inclined to take an approach that gave some sort of genuflection (what Rupert might have termed “giving the planet the benefit of the doubt”) to the notion that man might be contributing to global warming, given the overwhelming media meme that we saw in the lead up to the 2007 election. It was so strongly promoted that it contributed hugely to the ALP’s win. I call it perverting the course of democracy, which fails to deliver proper results in the absence of honest media. Just like climate modelling, prone to error.
There are plenty of genuine pollution issues to address instead of wasting huge amounts of money and damaging our really fantastic advantages in coal (hence energy) and minerals, when it’ll make no difference to the climate. The turnaround in conservative stance came after some were game to call the emperors clothes for what they were, and a big grassroots reaction confirmed that they were on the right track. Polling is now disastrous for the ALP.
Unless they find a way to defuse what is now writ large, a carbon tax based on dodgy modelling with the price set at more than double what it should be in any event, they’re history. The Green Left can cling to its religion, but level-headed Labor politicians should see that disowning this disaster is essential. It shouldn’t be that hard for ministers who spend most weeks in barefaced delivery of any crap that’ll support this week’s flip-flop or foot-shot.

DESCRIPTION: Stuffed porpoise stomach

GODE COOKERY TRANSLATION:

INGREDIENTS:

Porpoise blood
Porpoise grease
Oatmeal
Salt
Pepper
Ginger
One porpoise stomach
DIRECTIONS:
Combine the porpoise blood, porpoise grease, and oatmeal, & season it with salt, pepper, & ginger. This should be a thick & moist stuffing-like mixture. Stuff the porpoise stomach about half full with this, as the stuffing will swell during cooking.. Sew up the stomach tightly or secure each end with string, & prick it all over with a large needle to avoid bursting. Put an upturned plate in the base of a pot of boiling water, stand the stomach on this and bring back to the boil; boil steadily for 3 to 4 hours. Cook until done; remove from water and drain well. Place in a broiler and cook for several minutes on both sides to slightly crisp the skin, then serve.

This recipe is essentially a porpoise haggis, as it uses all the elements found in the traditional Scottich haggis of a boiled sheep stomach with an oatmeal stuffing.

If for some reason you are unable to find a porpoise stomach, you might try a sheep stomach, still used today when making haggis. Alternatively, you may do the “American” version of making haggis, which leaves out the stomach entirely and has the mixture baked in a loaf pan.

Also, you may substitute a little white wine for the porpoise blood and butter or suet for the porpoise grease. Vegetable shortening may be also be used for the porpoise grease; the original recipe was probably intended for Lent and porpoise grease would have been an acceptable animal fat to use at that time. Vegetable shortening will probably be the closest and easiest alternative to fish grease if you wish to keep this a Lenten dish.

THE immigration department expects to spend an extra $452 million on health for asylum seekers, after renegotiating contracts with private company International Health and Medical Services (IHMS) that are now worth $769,300,000.

The IHMS contracts were updated last week, and follow a push by the mental health profession for the federal government to address multiple suicides and increasing self-harm rates in detention centres, where almost 2000 asylum seekers have been held for more than a year.

That $450M increase is in addition to the $700m increse to Serco.

Security company Serco negotiated a new four-year contract with the Department of Immigration before Christmas, going from $299.2 million over four years in 2009 to $1.03 billion, News Limited reported on Thursday.

I also see part of the strategy of pumping up numbers of Aborigines, by including more and more 1/64th Aborigines is justify even more funding for the Aboriginal Industry. If they can say “5% of the Australian population are indigenous, yet only 1% are university Professors” they can use this to justify AA programs, such as increasing the number of university professors five fold, and so on.

A convicted killer who helped save hundreds of inmates during a prison fire that killed 360 people last week, has been pardoned by the Honduran government.

President Porfirio Lobo announced he would pardon Marco Antonio Bonilla, also known as Shorty, for releasing trapped prisoners from the blaze that destroyed Comayagua jail.

While guards panicked and left screaming men to die, Bonilla – who had been outside his cell when the fire began – used a set of keys to unlock several barracks, each housing about 100 men. He also used a bench to smash open other locks …
One version of events said Bonilla picked up keys dropped by a guard who fled. Another report said he wrested the keys from a guard who was paralysed by the horrifying sights and sounds in the jail.

“Shorty was the only one with honour,” Rosendo Sanchez, a survivor, told reporters.

A BRISBANE woman fleeced Nigerian scam artists by stealing more than $30,000 from their internet car sales racket, a court has been told.
Sarah Jane Cochrane-Ramsey, 23, was employed by the Nigerians as an “agent” in March 2010 but was unaware they were scam artists, the Brisbane District Court heard today.

Her job was to provide an Australian bank account through which they could funnel any payments they received through their dodgy account on a popular car sales website.

Cochrane-Ramsey was to keep eight per cent of all money paid into her account and forward the rest to the Nigerian scammers.

However, the court heard she kept the two payments she received – totalling $33,350 – and spent most of it on herself.

I am getting tired of this arguement that we were saved from the financial crisis due to stimulas spending. Just worked out a couple of figures in my head and they come up like this. Stimulas spending $100 000 000 per day. Jobs saved 1 000 000 or roughly keeping the unemployment rate 8% below what it would have been. Cost per job saved $700 per week. Why the hell couldn’t we have just offered every unemployed Australian a minimum wage job at $600 per week this would have been much cheaper.

Yes, curcumin from turmeric should be in everyone’s diet. Good for neurons and cancer, appears to prevent protein aggregation. I’ve posted on my blog the link to the severe fasting study but this blog doesn’t allow blog links so can’t ref here.

I. Tiger raised this months ago: ketogenic diets. One study I recently read did show promise for these diets. Those diets, and DCA, and fasting, are all inter-related. There has been too much neglect of the metabolic aspects of cancer and too much emphasis on gene mutations. That is now being corrected but given Warburg was 1923 it seems a bit late!

The big problem I had with the findings is that the increase over c was so tiny as to suggest some type of error. Really, when you think about the number of runs they have to do, the extreme sensitivity of the expts, such a small increase should have been treated with much greater scepticism.

Smith was terrible on Lateline. His dummy spitting and evasiveness in denying the bleeding obvious was a bad look. Admittedly he has a lemon to sell but he didn’t perform well under pressure. It should have finished off any remaining hope he might have had as a compromise candidate but this being Labor it probably won’t have.

Just a short visit to note again the prophetic vision of Kevin Rudd’s future as noted in my blog on 7 October 2007:

It’s becoming clear that the biggest danger to Kevin Rudd, as soon as he gets IR legislation through the Senate, will be assassination by someone on the Left of his own party. Well OK, maybe not assassination, but a convenient accidental fall from some high point around Parliament House….

Oh sure, every Labor politician is currently willing to bite their tongue for now while they think of the polls, but what Rudd is doing seems well designed to guarantee that he will not have loyalty in the long run. Certainly, he is positioning himself as the Prime Minister most likely to be punched in the nose by someone from his own party towards the end of the parliamentary Christmas shindig.

I would add that he doesn’t have loyalty now either – just a bunch of people willing to risk him again on the basis that the public is easily conned by Kevin.

Conscientiously objectionable sortition in three classes for rotating nine year once only terms.

Also: I would elect the senate list nationally but weigh the votes from the smaller states as an inverse of their share of reps.

If it is unfair at least it is explicit and major parties cannot artificially exhaust smaller party votes in half senate elections.

But with that I would prefer just straight up four year set terms for both.

You could even do sortition on an equal basis for each State.

If we had a Presidential system of Government, I would consider unicameralism if there was PR. My preference is for MMR from electorates decided by each State, but in proportion to population. I’m inferring I want a lot more States with more powers (somewhat getting the rid of the need for equal representation of each State) and varying populations.

Also, the FLavians were only in power from 69 to 96. They were came into power something like 20 years after Jesus’ life time, and were dead before the bulk of the influential Christian texts were written (ie the letters of Paul, written roughly 50 years after Jesus’ death).

Been pondering the GG’s role, and her connection to Shorten when this travelling circus finally goes over the cliff.

There is no Deputy Governor General of Australia. It seems that if the GG is unable or unwilling to act in relation to dissolving a government, the senior State Governor, in this case, Prof Marie Bashir (NSW) steps in as a Commonwealth Administrator.

Heiner and the conflict of interest claims plaguing the GG may well make Prof Bashir Australia’s de facto Head of State and Kingmaker in the next few days.

ISRAELI warplanes have struck the Gaza Strip hours after Palestinian militants fired two rockets at southern Israel.

“Israeli army aircraft thwarted an attempt by a terrorist squad to fire rockets at Israel from the northern Gaza Strip,” an army statement said.

Palestinian sources said two residents of the Zeitun neighbourhood suffered minor injuries.

Hours later, the army said it carried out another strike on northern Gaza.

On Thursday night, Palestinian militants fired two rockets at Israel, neither of which caused casualties or damage.
