We went to see The Artist on the weekend and found it the most charming film I have seen in quite a while. It’s not going to win the Academy Awards next week, partly because it had one feature that is almost unique for any film I have seen in years. It had no obvious political agenda of any kind.
It is not, of course, a silent film, just one with no spoken dialogue but the change of pace was a pleasure. It is not necessarily a film for everyone, but it did rate 8.4 at IMDB, and on Rotten Tomatoes picked up 97% amongst the critics and 91% from the audience. So maybe, now having looked all this up, it is a film for everyone. If you haven’t seen it, you might think of putting it on your list.
Update: My wife now tells me that The Artist is favoured to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. See, you go away for a month and these sorts of things just pass you by. Well, I hope it does win. Lovely film.

Okay, it looks interesting, I’ll see it when it comes out on DVD.
