Breaking News: Fox calls the recall election

It looks like Scott Walker has survived the recall election.

With 34% counted Scott walker has won 59% of the vote.

The Guardian has live coverage here.

Oh, and so far in the four recall senate districts, the Republican candidates are winning in each race by around 10 percentage points.

Update: “The end of democracy“.

  11. This is serious stuff as it impacts on the White House.

I think two things are contributing to Milwaukee’s vote total: 1) The school system is abysmal and the argument that the unions are good for us falls flat. 2) The local hispanic vote is not at all partial to the unions and it is beginning to matter.

Milwaukee is a super blue precinct and it’s not registering highly for the Dems at all. This is seriously freaking bad news for the White House.

  14. I checked the Milwaukee interactive map on Ace of Spades. It’s 3rd on the bottom on the right.

Walker is up by 90,000 votes. This is a seriously bad result for the White house. Milwaukee should be going Demolition. 50% of the votes have been counted.

If Milwaukee goes Walker I’m calling NY state for Romney without hesitation.

Perhaps the real dem booths haven’t been counted. We’ll see.

  40. Is the result certain as I post this, or is it still mathematically possible for the Democrats to win? Because until the latter happens, one should not even begin to celebrate, or even to raise too much hope. And that goes double for when the Obama-Romney contest occurs.

I agree the implications aren’t good for the Federal contest, especially with all the other cracks that are starting to appear (esp. Clinton). It’s bad enough to lose an election – it’s got to be worse when you drag the other guy back to the ballot box early, kicking and screaming, and he STILL belts your arse by a fair margin.

Who’s side is that? Lawyers are always on the lawyers side! Generally the winning side or the side that pays best (often both in the US). Regardless I think even the lawyers can’t win this one for the Dems!

November will be interesting. If this is an indication of electoral feeling, it’s encouraging, (for Romney, and perhaps sane rational human beings everywhere). That said, the final vote is far from a sure thing and both Romney and Obama can still lose this from here.

    All in sync.

Believe it or not, by winning his recall election -by a 57 percent to 42 percent margin at this hour – Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has done his foes – the Wisconsin Democratic Party, the public sector unions, the progressives and angry leftists – a favor.

He has liberated them from the soothing illusion that they are popular, and that the public agrees with them.

How do you think the leadership of the Wisconsin chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees fell to 28,745 in February from 62,818 in March 2011? How do you think they greeted the sudden realization that two-thirds of the members, given the option of leaving and cease paying union dues, headed for the exits?

Republican Jerry Petrowski has defeated Democrat Donna Seidel for an open Senate seat in Tuesday’s recall elections.

Democrats upset with Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s polarizing plan to strip most public workers of nearly all their union rights forced the governor, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and four GOP senators, including Pam Galloway of Wausau, into recall elections this past winter. Walker claimed the plan was needed to control the state budget, but many public workers opposed erosion of their bargaining rights.

Galloway chose to resign rather than defend her seat. State election officials decided to continue with the election to fill her seat regardless.

  97. Foxnews: Recall to decide Wisconsin Senate control too close to call

It’s unclear whether Democrats or Republicans won control of the Wisconsin Senate in Tuesday’s recalls.

Democrats upset with Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to strip public workers of their union rights pushed the governor, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch (KLAY’-fish) and three GOP state senators into recalls. The Democrats also were hoping to pick up an open Senate seat in the recalls.

The chamber stood evenly divided between the two parties going into Tuesday’s elections. Democrats needed to win just one Senate race to gain a one-seat majority. Republicans needed to win all four.

The GOP swept all the contests except in Racine’s 23rd Senate District. Democrat John Lehman led incumbent GOP Sen. Van Wanggaard by fewer than 800 votes with all precincts reporting, making the race too close to call.
