The mantra returns: it’s all Mr Abbott’s fault

For a while there, I thought that the Prime Minister and other members of the government had delilberately junked the repeated mentions of Mr Abbott in the context of every topic being discussed.

I understand that when the Prime Minister appeared on Q&A recently – I missed it – she did  not mention Mr Abbott at all.

The lull was short-lived.  He is back, centre-stage, in all the government’s utterances.  Witness today’s performance by the Prime Mnister on The Insiders – the boat arrivals and drownings – Abbott’s fault; the public’s lack of enthusiasm for the carbon tax – Abbott’s fault due to misrepresentation.  Abbott won’t repeal the carbon tax (a novel line by the government don’t you think? If this is designed to hurt Abbott, does this not imply that the government knows that the carbon tax is political poison?)

And other ministers – eg. Albanese, Combet, Macklin – have identical refrains – Abbott, Abbott, Abbott.

I have made the point before, the marketing experts (as opposed to government appointed panels of experts, a strategy taken from the Yes, Prime Minister manual) tell us that this approach is a gift – a free kick - to Tony Abbott.  I am just suprised this has not occurred to anyone in the government.

    A-bbott, A-bbott, A-bbott.

    Come on Abbott, come on.

Hatred can easily cloud one’s judgments.
Plus the victimhood mentality is not only bred by Labor through welfare encouragements, it is also the centerpiece of Labor’s core values, such as they are.

ALP Rule #1 – Labor’s bad policies are always somebody else’s fault.

  3. Jim Rose

why give free publicity to the other guy? only raises his status.

  4. Rabz

They hate (and are obsessed with) the Yabbott because he’s a ‘trillion’ times better than them.

commies being the peanut brained inadequates that they are…

  5. boy on a bike

I have just returned from a birthday party in the far western suburbs.

I asked around, and there was no one there who thought they were going to get any compo at all from the government. The government can talk all it likes about lots of households getting compensated – I am yet to meet anyone from one of those households. Maybe I’m just moving in the wrong circles. It was neatly categorised by a tradie as a “transfer from strivers to bludgers”. Except he inserted a few other words into that description that I won’t repeat here.

  6. Anne

I doubt I’ll get a cheque, the Gubmint probably knows who I am by now, but if I do I’ll donate it to the Liberal Party. That would really piss off Gillard.

  7. Anne

Tax deductible welfare – love it!

  8. Rabz

there was no one there who thought they were going to get any compo at all from the government

Funnily enough, I ain’t getting any ‘compo’ either.

    Who’da thunk it?

Good thing I took steps to (legally) reduce my income tax by about 70% almost two years ago…

“Abbott won’t repeal the carbon tax (a novel line by the government don’t you think?”

ALP desperate to claw back the Labor-voters who have dumped them because of their stupid tax. They’re gonna push the line hard that Abbott cannot repeal the law and will just change his mind after the election. Despicable stuff, especially from this lot.

  10. ar

And to justify her saying Abbott will accept the Carbon Tax and not repeal it, Gillard said she opposed the GST but accepted it after it was in.

    What a lie.

How long was Rollback Labor policy?

    Gillard just can’t stop lying.

this approach is a gift – a free kick – to Tony Abbott. I am just suprised this has not occurred to anyone in the government.

The Liar has repeatly shown she has bad judgment. Most recently, putting a Bill to the Senate that the Senate said it would reject and then appointing a partisan committee that is suppose to come up with a bi-partisan solution. (Duh! How is that suppose to work?)

She probably thinks this damaging Abbott. Don’t tell her otherwise. She appears too stupid to work it out for herself.

Another explanation is that she is so crap that this is actually the best policy available to her. Anna Bligh ended up begging for votes. The Liar could end up in the same place.

So much for the Emily Listers’ claims about women being better than men. Most Labor women have proven to be big fat failures.

  12. Gav P

Abbott is right about the carbon tax being a reverse tariff. But it is only the 4th-biggest reverse tariff in Australia’s tax-transfer system. Now that it has taken effect, there is no remaining reason why Abbott should not switch his indignation to the biggest (income tax), the 2nd-biggest (the super guarantee) and the 3rd-biggest (payroll tax).

  13. val majkus

who would trust what Gillard or any member of her team says any more?
    Would you
    I wouldn’t

She even has to outsource a decision on boat people

  14. Interestingly enough, I don’t know anyone who will be getting ‘compensated’ either.

  15. The Old and Unimproved Dave

If the electorate hates you, endlessly mentioning your opponent…..even sneeringly…..is what the Coalition calls ‘free advertising’.

  16. Rafe

So now we have the Abbott Derangement Syndrome. The more things change….

Thanks, ar, for pointing that out. I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard that coming out of her mouth this morning. She was puppeting John McTernan’s new strategy: might as well vote for us as them as you’ll get the carbon tax either way. Need to do better, John. It’s a dogshit stupid strategy that no-one will buy because the true believers stopped listening to her 18 months ago when she sold them out. Amazing those dogshit stupid Labor dullards gave you the job in the first place really.

  18. Gab

Honestly, Swan is an absolute moron. And he thinks increasing the cost of living is a joke:

Shock, horror – no price rise at all! Check out the receipts. Cost $36.30 yesterday $36.10 today ‪#carbonfact‬ pic.twitter.com/ABg9l1cM

    He’s as dumb as Monty.

  19. Simon

They must be wondering what they are going to do for the next year with only Waynes (snigger) surplus to mention. The NBN has turned from being a vote winner into a “look how they’ve squandered all that money” Neroesque attempt to look grand.

    Who’da thunk it?

Rabz, the only way to reduce your income tax by 70% would be to reduce your income.

    Not always a sweet option.

  21. Rabz

    Not always a sweet option.

    It works.

Negative gearing is a wonderful thing.

Which is why the greenslime and can’tgetitup! are always trying to have it outlawed.

Trust me, I’m an old hand at this.

  22. oil shrill

Rabz, this sounds like a cash flow issue, with the risk of asset deflation.

  23. C.L.

I dare say many Labor MPs realise that you NEVER raise your opponent to such lofty, nation-changing heights – albeit, in this case, as a transmogrified caricature. But Gillard, Swan, Combet, Holy Billy the Up-Talker, Emerson and Albanese especially are all entirely engulfed, mentally, in their own hatred for Abbott. They simply can’t help themselves.

  24. JC

I dare say many Labor MPs realise that you NEVER raise your opponent to such lofty, nation-changing heights

yea, you keep putting the spotlight on him, the voters may end up liking him. Happened in Queensland.

  25. C.L.

Who is that little assistant Treasurer bloke?

He’s become a full-on Abbott Derangement Syndrome retard. He gets up in Parliament and tries desperately to impress the government peanut gallery with da Abbott insults.

He’s a real bone head, whoever he is.

Abbott usually sits there and grins at him. It seems to really annoy him.

  26. candy

i guess the ALP all thought Mr Abbott was “unelectable” like the journalists were aways saying some 2 years ago and they’re still getting over the shock

  27. Rabz

    Oil,

I’m not going to keep debating this.

It works. The asset is sound, the losses abstract.

Look up schedules beginning with the letter D.

    Enough.

  28. DMS

(Abbott) is back, centre-stage, in all the government’s utterances

To be fair, it’s actually all they have left. It’s not like they can run on their record.

  29. C.L.

OK. I know who that assistant Treasury creep is now. It’s David Bradbury.

He features in Bolt’s second video:

    From 5.40 ———————–>>>>>>>>>>

Really enjoyed Alexander Downer’s response and Bolt’s “snags” comment. Very funny.

  30. jupes

Really enjoyed Alexander Downer’s response and Bolt’s “snags” comment.

    Best Bolt Report yet.

  31. Gab

    Bolt opening the second segment:

    Today is C Day

    lol

He is the guy responsible for the invasion of the boat people. The lying slapper claimed in the last election campaign that they would stop the boats. She appeared in countless stunts with that clown on navy on ships pretending, to his electorate, that he would make a difference to illegal immigration. The implication was that the clown would be riding the navy ships 24/7 repelling the invasion, unfortunately he seems more intent on victimizing butchers than border security. The reality is that if had done his job and stayed on the ships instead of going to parliament, his crap government would have been replaced with a good one and repairs would be under way.

One little hand grenade in the C-tax beginning today is a huge (300-400%) increase in the cost of refrigerant gas. A friend in the refrigeration industry says it will add at least $300 to the cost of the average home A/C system, and massive costs to commercial systems that need overhaul or maintenance, including A/C and refrigeration in pubs, supermarkets, restaurants etc.

Once the price of beer goes up as a result, imagine the screams.

  34. Gab

BTW, Judith, you did an excellent job on the Drum last Thursday.
