We’re going to die!

PHYSICISTS have reported finding strong hints of the Higgs boson, the particle believed to give objects mass.

If the US-based physicists can confirm the existence of the Higgs boson, the last missing piece in the standard model of physics, the announcement would rank among the most important scientific breakthroughs of the last century.

  5. No black holes were apparently harmed in the collection of the 1.21 GW sorry 6 femtobarns of data at ATLAS and CMS.

    I recommend reading Lubos Motl’s posts on all things SUSY to experience the feeling that while reading the words in English you have no fandangling idea what they mean.

    PS, before Steve and Hammy hit the link…warning: he’s also a climate sceptic.

  6. Headline;

    Scientific consensus on Higgs boson tax is essential, Government treasury economists agree.

  7. Xenia Seeberg has quite a bit of “exposure” on the web. But be careful what you click on.
    Oh, yeah … the “God” particle, heavy shit man … got it!

  10. Why are US scientists blabbing about this now, just one day before the big European announcement? Making stupid claims that they could have found the particle with there 30 yearoldcollideriftheywere just givens bit more time and a bit more funding. Looks like they were all given 1 year after the shutdown, so they are all out of jobs now?

  11. Well, says Da Ape, they would say that, wouldn’t they? Quantum physics. He knows more than I do about it, for sure.

    Personally, I didn’t know God was missing-in-action. If they have found Him in a particle I hope they leave Him well alone. He doesn’t like God-botherers. :)

  12. No need to waste all this money experimenting and looking for it, modern science would just use the cash to force everyone to believe in it “like all the worlds scientist now do”. Decide the scientific outcome you desire and insist on it.

  13. People who claim that “X” is the “last” missing piece in a puzzling line of scientific enquiry are not worth listening to on the subject of science.
    They wish it was the last because they find questions tiresome, fucking mullahs.
