Karoly is one of those alarmists who will stop at nothing to encourage fear about climate change. I find the words on his tee-shirt interesting:

You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows

is of course the title of a famous revolutionary Communist manifesto from 1969 which advocates violent overthrow of the government and a dictatorship of the proletariat. This is the Weather Underground movement.

Now we know what Karoly really thinks.

  10. I have spent a good bit of time pondering Ayers and that Annenberg Project and then this week someone pointed out Valerie Jarrett’s mom was one of the founders of the Erik Erikson Institute in Chicago.

I think that shirt is a reference less to violence than this desire to change consciousness in the West. How people think. To keep the conceptual, abstract capacity weak, and then provide the concepts that frame the perceptions. And that’s when it’s thinking and not just pure emotion talking.

The literature revolving around Climate Change and sustainability from the beginning was always about reshaping the human mind and deemphasizing reason. There was even a name for it that sounds silly to our ears–the noosphere. Using the Greek word for mind.

We are all still mystified because all that modelling was never supposed to have to react with Enlightenment trained, fact filled, Western minds.

The Karoly’s of global academia seem to be waiting for that long sought transformation to finally eliminate criticism of them.

  11. Oh please. Karoly is most likely a prime turkey, but there’s no need for this nonsense.

The line comes from Bob Dylan’s song Subterranean Homesick Blues.

The Weather Underground took its name from the same source.

  20. Interesting stuff about Karoly. Climate audit was instrumental in having him withdraw some research as it was so faulty.

    From Climate audit

As CA readers are aware, David Karoly was a senior author of Gergis et al, which was withdrawn in June following criticism at Climate Audit. Despite (or perhaps because of) this experience, Karoly slagged me in a recent article reviewing Mann’s book, including an accusation that I was responsible for “promulgating misinformation”. I wrote Karoly stating that I tried to write accurately and asked that he provide specific examples of “promulating misinformation” or withdraw the allegation with an apology. I had hoped that such a request would trigger some sense of professional obligation on Karoly’s part to do the right thing. I made no mention of legal action in the letter, let alone threat. As CA readers know, I’ve consistently discouraged those readers who regard litigation as a means of resolving problems.

Indeed, the request was partly successful as Karoly proceeded to retract the article containing the untrue allegations against me. So I’m a bit surprised that Karoly falsely claimed that I had made a “threat of legal action”.

    Here’s the correspondence.

    http://climateaudit.org/2012/07/14/another-untrue-allegation-by-karoly/#more-16434

I urge people the read the exchange to get a sense of Karoly’s grubby tactics.

These people are not scientists, they’re political advocates.

“But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is, brother, you’ll have to wait.”

Cannot think of worse haters than the Greens, the ALP, and the frothing warmist crowd.

  23. I find this the most accurate of all

But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao, you ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow.

I think most people have clued up to this and couldn’t give a fig about warming, because they now know the warmies aren’t pure of heart.

They didn’t want mitigation to save x% of future GDP at all. They wanted to expand the tax/GDP ratio and to spit in the face of productive, extractive businesses, and buy a graven image of themselves.

  25. If he were a Dylan fan he would have had a slogan like Blowin’ in the Wind. But the choice of words is significant. If someone wore Alex North’s Two Songs about Lenin would that say something about the wearer compared to North’s Unchained Melody?

  28. My reference to the Annenberg Project is a reference to the working relationship between Ayers and Obama over education.http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/225348/chicago-annenberg-challenge-shutdown/stanley-kurtz

ValJar is BO and MO’s closest confidant. Some people think she makes many of the decisions. That’s her on the tape about how interested the Admin is in Van Jones, the confessed communist.

I was just looking into how U-Melbourne has been a leader in pushing learner outcomes in Australian higher ed as a replacement for actual demonstrable disciplinary knowledge.

I also know that is where ATC21S is housed as a global push. The replacement of knowledge for generic 21st century skills and desired values.

That search also pulled up a bunch of what your PM was pushing before her current job. Loved reading about how environmental sustainability was to be embedded across the curriculum.

Lots of systems thinking being pushed.

It appears to me Karoly is quite aware of how the Marxist theory of the mind works and what Ayers has really been pushing with his work on ed. But then I have seen the kind of panels Ayers sits on at AERA functions.

  29. Actually the proof that the reference is to Weather Underground and not Dylan is the use of those words. Because if it were Dylan it should be the title Subterranean Homesick Blues, or perhaps some other lines in the song or another Dylan song. So it is a clear reference to Weather Underground.

  30. In 2012, Karoly is wearing a t-shirt referencing widely-known lyrics to a popular Bob Dylan song written in 1965.

In 1969, an American domestic terrorist group took their name from widely-known lyrics to a popular Bob Dylan song written in 1965.

I don’t see how you can claim, for sure and certain, that Karoly is referencing the American domestic terrorist group and not the Bob Dylan song.

  31. It is almost certainly a reference to a Communist terrorist organisation. Which should be prohibited under hate speech laws and carry strict penalties.

  32. In various places I’ve also seen the quote “He not busy being born is busy dying” … people don’t necessarily don’t quote the title of a song; they quote the line out of the lyrics they find most apposite.

    sdog

    16 Jul 12 at 3:05 am

  33. I think it is pretty clear sdog. Out of all of the lyrics that Dylan has written Karoly has chosen the particular 12 words used by Weather Underground. Karoly is old enough (born 1955) to know about Weather Underground and those particular words from its Communist Manifesto. If he just wanted to mention Dylan he could have chosen any number of other lyrics or titles. On the balance of probability I think it is a reference to Weather Underground. Those 12 words are much more clearly associated with Weather Underground than with Dylan.

  35. Bob Dylan’s song lyrics quoted most by Supreme Court and other lawyers to make point

Among the Dylan lines most often cited in the legal profession: “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.”

    Just sayin’.

    sdog

    16 Jul 12 at 3:26 am

  36. No you don’t need a weatherman. You just need to consult the climate model. If there’s a disagreement between the model and the actual wind velocity and direction, you become a designated denier if you point out the discrepancy with reality.

Now I really get the T shirt. It’s a reminder that modelling trumps reality.

Because modelling gets you government and NGO grants.
