  1. Can someone please explain where $23 a tonne comes from?

Global output is 40 trillion tonnes per year. Global GDP is $70 trillion. How on earth can $23 even be remotely justified? Seems like even 20c per tonne world wide would cripple the earths economy.

  2. I believe the $23 figure was dreamt up by the Greens. It’s what they said they would settle for, in the short term, before increasing it to their real target around $40/tonne. As to how the Greens came up with the $23…it was communicated to Bob Brown by a wandering alien looking for the mothership.

That’s one very rare, unextincted alien, Gab.

  4. Gab,

On the old LP site they used dream up prices of 100-120 AUD per tonne.

  7. Just stick your power bills up on the wall in the office with “pre carbon tax” and “post carbon tax”, no other commentary needed.

  8. Lol…we had a bunch of people turn up to protest, so obviously everyone agrees with us.

And that is the logic of the insulated left…

You might want check with the Liar’s ACCC whether you are allowed to do that. It’s their job to stifle free speech that doesn’t accord with the Liar’s view of the world.

  10. My bill was $200 because I took the trouble to seek out a good deal and take advantage of the Federal solar rebates. At leasst half the rise in cost is from the huge increase of access charges put on by a NSW government that already benifits from $1.5 billion collected this way. Lorraine stop bleating about the carbon tax and do something for yourself to reduce your bill.

  11. OK i was wrong. They measure carbon in wierd units (usually kilotonnes…).

So the worlds output is 30 million kilotonnes (30 billion tonnes per year). The worlds GDP is $70 trillion.

    $70t / 30b = $2,333 per tonne.

The $23 is based on the carbon being allowed to account for 1% of the worlds GDP.

Yea, which really means you’re fucking the rest of us through the feed in and the subsidy.

    thanks Alan. Keep it coming.

  13. There is no way your power bills could increase by more than about 10% to 20%.

Power cost about 4c/kwhr, now about 8c thanks to the carbon tax. Most people will be paying between 20c to 30c because most of the cost is in distribution, not the polluting generation.

If your bill really went up 80% it was because of other reasons.

The only people I know with bills that went up this amount were some farmers who lived near aluminium plants. They paid about 6c per kilowatt hour, now they will pay about 12c per kilowatt hour. For most farms this is an increase of 100% on something that can make up 50% of their budget due to grow lights. In other words these few niche farms have been completely wiped out.

The best thing you can do is vote for a party that will repeal the carbon tax and has a policy of executing leftists.

  20. Lorraine forgot to mention that she can claim all of the GST spent on business related expenses. That is equivalent to a 10% discount. I am a pensioner with no access to any tax breaks. I have no children and have had part of the tax that was collected from me over a 50 year period spent on education. That this money from which I have have had little benifit has produced citizens who show little regard for the opinions of others (me) is a shame.Democracy is a two edged sword. Perhaps JC and friends should learn how to duck.

    No, it is not.

I have no children and have had part of the tax that was collected from me over a 50 year period spent on education.

Seems like they are your betters, not your peers.

  22. Yeah no this is bullshit, “Alan”.

    “Pensioners” supporting the carbon tax?

No. You are not on a pension. You are on a SAS or ComSuper annuity.

No actual pensioner in their right mind supports the carbon tax, solar rebates etc.

Maybe you ought to learn how it feels when we all feel like we want to stop paying into your ponzi scheme, after we’ve paid back (or in my case partially, never owed) our education debt.

    Hi Alan!

  23. I must be mad then. Nobody is asked to repay their primary or secondary education costs. As for super schemes you can with a little effort run your own. It
isn’t for everybody, but at least any failure would be your own.
