Renewables: Let them stand on their own two feet!

The following article ,which recommends the dismantling of the renewable regulation target, was published in the Herald Sun today.  The Clean Energy Council conference in Sydney was also on today. In a debate at the conference, Nick Minchin joined me on the good guys team (lobbyists Kane Thornton, Mark Diesendorf and Gwen Andrews were on the other side) the bad guys said that green energy is advancing in leaps and bounds and will soon be cheaper than fossil fueled power.  No amount of evidence about the continued failure of renewable energy to provide power commercially was able to cut through to conference attendees.  And for some reason these same snafflers from the trough consider it is essential that the trough be replenished by more and bigger subsidies.  Duh!

The media informed me that one infamous green lobbyist was even tweeting that a number mentioned in the article, $5 billion of investment in wind in South Australia, was ridiculous.  Actually it came from a “normally reliable source” Environment Victoria!

  1. I have no idea how you can cut through. It’s like trying to tell people in 1999 that pets.com won’t end up owning the entire pet supplies market.

I guess you need a dozen Solyndra type flameouts before people start to get the picture. You need a massive scandalous amount of waste before the mental picture people have is shattered and rebuilt with new information.

Most likely the cut-through event will be widespread blackouts/brownouts when ‘renewables’ are providing the power.

  2. I think the politician who stands up and says that he will dismantle the Renewable Energy legislation which was written by immature adolescents and remove all possible limiting government restrictions on the Energy Sector within reason with a view to reducing electricity prices by 20% within 3 years would win the popular vote by a landslide.

Trouble is, Abbott need do diddly squat apart from promising to erase the carbon tax and fix the illegal boat arrival problem and he’s home and hosed.

No, all you need is for Tony Abbott to say it is a croc when he PM and he is no longer interested in playing the game anymore.

Tony is suppose to stand for values. Let’s hope he values truth and our kids future.

  5. @johno Abbott won’t be caught lying on the issue. He’ll do whatever he’s promised in the campaign. The luvvies will be doing their very best to get him to sign in blood so that they can try and call him a liar for broken promises.

Abbott has already flagged the RET is here to stay. Whether he privately believes it or not, his party position is to keep the RET and forge ahead with the stupid Direct Action scheme.

  6. At least Direct Action can be scaled back. In the case of a deficit, scaled back a lot.

I argee that Abbott will be super sensitive about not breaking promises. We can only hope that he will use incimbancy and a big majority to take on the scam. He is a Liberal, so I have little faith that he will.

  8. Just don’t forget that “renewables” can be interpreted (or reinterpreted, if necessary!) as including hydroelectric. I wonder if anyone can fill me in on just how much hydro potential there is in Tassie and elsewhere. Let the Greenies howl!
