We have a moral responsibility not to spend more than we take in

Romney’s latest ads [via Powerline]

I only wonder whether focusing on “the middle class” really says to others, we are not as interested in your welfare. Surely there are potential Republican voters out there who do not think of themselves as middle class.

I also note from Glenn Reynolds that where he lives he is continuously inundated by Obama advertisements and to a lesser extent by Romney’s. We can’t see that here but if Romney has the money, where are the results? As usual, I would expect Obama not to have told the truth about how much money he has to spend.

  1. Free trade crack down and a government who is going to create 12 million jobs. Any government that specifies how many jobs they will create can’t be trusted. Cutting a deficit will only delay the inevitable and there is no suggestion of eliminating it for 30 years or so.

Faber has a good take on the situation.

Do you guys honestly think that if Romney gets in, along with a Republican house and Senate that they will actually pass deficit reduction legislation. Or will they just pass massive tax cuts without the reductions in tax-expenditures or spending to reduce government spending. Or will they reduce the spending and tax expenditures first, and the tax cuts afterwards once the budget is back in the black.

  3. Johnno

The deficit would widen under a Romney administration. Fortunately he has zero chance of winning.

A testament to your total cluelessness.

A reduction in taxation along with a reduction in regulation will allow the economy to boom and the resulting tax revenues will reduce the deficit and pay off government debt. It will get the unemployment numbers down as well, and share wealth and prosperity.

It the only way to go.

  5. JamesK

The middle class is precisely where he needs to focus.

Obumma ads have painted him successfully to some degree as for the rich at the expense of the middle class.

That meme has to be squashed.

Wonderful to see the anti Romney trolls and their thoughtful, grounded talking points.

I mean, obongo’s been such a massive success in the presidency why wouldn’t Americans vote for the imbecile again?

What was that definition of insanity?

Oh, that’s right – repeating the same action and expecting a different result.

They viscerally loathe wealth except in their leaders Rabz.

    Leftists are egalitarian.

It’s more important to be equal in misery than have far fewer in misery.

Of course those advocating leftist policy loudest see themselves as elite – in the USSR the nomenklatura – the few who are more equal than others.

It stops the non-intellectual middle class entrepreneurs becoming much more wealthy than intellectuals and keeps them in their place.

Yes, that is what the Tea Party caucus is committed to. In case you are caught up with the moronic pantomine charactures of the Tea Pary and the left, just read this article and see how they are holding the old style Republicans feet to the fire.

Or of course, don’t follow the link and prove you are just a troll.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is depicted as more in touch with the Republican caucus that elected Boehner speaker, particularly with its strong contingent of tea party freshmen who came to Washington pledging to put the brakes on federal spending at any cost.

Cantor, Woodward writes, viewed Boehner as a “runaway horse” who needed reining in, given the realities of his own caucus. The Boehner-Obama talks started without Cantor’s knowledge, and Boehner later acknowledged to the president that Cantor was working against the very deal they were trying to reach, according to Woodward.

Barack Obama to be re-elected President in 2012

    66.2%
    CHANCE

Last prediction was: $6.62 / share
    Today’s Change: -$0.02 (-0.3%)

“How accurate was Intrade in 2008? Very accurate, and by the day of the election, almost perfect. It called his victory in the Electoral College within one vote out of 538 — uncanny.”

And Labor seems to be improving a bit too. Sigh.

Morning Jay: How the Media Misrepresents the Race

The gap between the way the media characterizes the presidential race and what is actually happening is growing larger by the day. In particular, we see a systematic emphasis on news items that favor the president and a discounting of evidence that disfavor him.

The mainstream media’s recent coverage of the Democratic National Convention was fawning – little or no mention was made of the extremist abortion plank or the decisive defeat on the floor of the motion to reinstate a reference to God in the platform (nevertheless gaveled through by the party establishment) and an acknowledgment that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel (pro-Israel language that had been included in previous party platforms)…….

Long gone are the days of straight journalists calling the balls and strikes fairly. And make no mistake: This is not merely a liberal bias we are dealing with, but a Democratic party bias. There is now a revolving door between the leftwing blogosphere, the broader Democratic establishment, and the mainstream media – and the phony narrative of a runaway Obama lead is just one result of that insidious alliance.

The good news is that this race will be decided on the fundamentals. Also, the GOP has enough money to communicate directly with the electorate, independent of the spin from the former Obama campaign consultants, and liberal reporters who dominate the mainstream media. Team Romney needs to settle on a plan of attack and take the battle directly to the president on the issues that voters care about – the economy, gas prices, the deficit, and Obamacare.

IF THINGS ARE SO GREAT FOR OBAMA, why are Republicans doing so well in party identification?

At no time during the year do the Democrats have a registration advantage vs republicans, the gap closes in July & re-separates in August. The low point for the GOP was July for 34.9 and the high August at 37.6 For democrats the high was 34.0 in June & July the low was 32.4 in Feb

What does this mean for November? It means a lot.

    The Democrats won 2 election in this period 2006 & 2008 with a 6.9 advantage in 2006 & a 7.6 advantage in 2008.

There is no example of the Democrats winning since 2004 with an advantage less that 6.9.

The GOP won two elections in this period 2004 with a -1.6 disadvantage & 2010 with a 1.3 advantage. This means the GOP has proven it can win with not only a small lead but with an actual disadvantage. Additionally with an advantage of only 1.3 they pulled off the biggest house swing in my lifetime.

Can these number change? Well the biggest 1 month swing I’ve seen is 4.2 Oct-Nov in 2010 the biggest 3 month swing was Dec 2007-Feb 2008 6.9 in favor of Democrats at the rise of Obama.

Tell me with the economy in the tank, and the new trouble in the Middle East, what is the prospect of a swing of that size to the Democrats happening again right now? Moreover even if that record registration swing repeated itself right now this would give democrats an advantage of only 2.6 points.

I’ve covered a lot of national polls on this site over the last year and all those polls ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX have one thing in common.

Not a single one of those polls had a sample with a GOP advantage…….

In every single poll showing Barack Obama ahead on this chart the sample is at least D+4 Even if the biggest swing in history takes place in the next 3 months toward the left that is 1.4 points above what the party split will be.

All of the figures I’ve cited are from a source publicly available. The Media know these figures, the left knows these figures and the Networks know these figures.

Yet they are still using polls with huge democrat samples and representing them as real.

I don’t know what that tells you but I sure know what it tells me

“Ride right through them, they’re demoralized as hell”!
The election of Barack Obama was the biggest con ever perpetuated on the US Public, the polls the media is reporting these days is a close second

  12. Token

JamesK, this election cycle is following a similar narrative of the 2010 congressional election where all the pundits were “surprised” by the Republican/Tea Party wave which the polling missed.

I’ll get back to providing some linkies later to those good times.

Romney: Republican Party Is “Rightful Home” Of Hispanics

I am pleased to represent the party of Governor Susana Martinez (R-NM), Governor Brian Sandoval (R-NV), Governor Luis Fortuno (R-Puerto Rico), Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and the Texas Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Ted Cruz. These leaders are Republicans for the same reasons as millions of other Hispanics. They see that ours is the party of opportunity, the party that will restore America’s prosperit

    Good.

    More please.

The only decent criticism of Ryan and Romney has come from Peter Schiff, who says that what they are doing is admirable in spirit and politically courageous.

  15. Myrrdin Seren

    From the BBC:

A secretly filmed video showing Mitt Romney appearing to disparage Barack Obama supporters at a private donor dinner has been published online.

    Wikispeech – scandal – shame !

And what is given as a disparaging comment ?:

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what,” Mr Romney is seen saying, referring to the percentage of Americans who have no income tax liability.

“There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. “

So a statement of the bleeding obvious that the vast numbers of voters receiving benefits and pay checks from big, re-distributive government are not going to sacrifice their perceived short-term interests over the long-term interests of the country on election day is a scandal and a slur – and will probably shift not one vote.

    “Leftists are egalitarian”

Wow JamesK, did you miss a sarc/joke tag or something?

Leftists in my personal experience, and in my reading, are about as egalitarian as Queen Elizabeth of Australia.

Leftists dont need to be egalitarian, because their ideology renders such bourgeois concepts irrelevant. They do not need the approval of petty moralists, because they are doing the right thing, and anything they do is justified in order to achieve that. The elite guiltlessly provide themselves with any comfort they desire, even while the peasants and workers starve.

Thank you JamesK for that succinct summary.

I’ve not paid a lot of attention to polls over the decades because I’ve regarded them much like the super funds / property trusts re-valuing their shopping centre investments every three months and sprouting how successful they are as managers. The theoretical valuation/commercial con is rarely tested and, when it is and found to be delusional, the caravan has moved on and forgotten the fanciful lies told a year before.

Your first two paragraphs I’ve quoted confrm to me that which instinct has taught – who is offering the analysis and what is in it for them?

Obama not to have told the truth about how much money he has to spend.

He might be borrowing it from a couple of banks? Hillary had a huge debt after the race with Obumma POTAS picked up, if I remember correctly.

Token and Gab I posted earlier but got an error.

I agree with the quote of having a moral responsibility to not spend more than we take in, at least over the economic cycle, but under the last 3 Republican administrations that has not happened. Even with the Tea Party, do you think they will be able to cut spending. I have no doubt they will cut taxes and regulations, but will they get rid of the mortgage interest deduction/expenditure and the employer health insurance deduction, and deductions like that? If they don’t they’ll need to stop every government program except defence, medicare and social security, which while the users of this site may agree with, the general public would not.

A Republican congress forced Clinton to balance the budget.

What happens in Congress is what counts. The President is not a legislator, he can only rescind egregiously stupid laws that only marginally get through Congress.

    Leftists are egalitarian.

Isn’t that the greatest irony of the 20th and 21st centuries!

Do you remember THR, our resident lefty who used to blog here a lot. He once indicated that he didn’t believe that working people could widely be proud about their work. How can someone who is, say, a common construction worker or plumber feel proud about the type of work they do?

Or Anna Bligh leading an ‘egalitarian’ government awarding herself benefits and perks that her constituents could only dream of (currently $150k per annum plus other perks like travel, I believe).

The set of Teh Left that we would call the ‘latte left’ or the ‘ballroom socialists’ are the most elitist, up themselves, self-absorbed people on the planet.

  24. Lysander Spooner

In David Boaz’s book “Libertarianism: A Primer” he argues that he cannot think of a single instance where a government has “downsized” itself in real terms. Yes! He even includes Reagan and Thatcher.

Romney will downsize the projected budget but will have no impact on the actual budget. Obama will help Bernanke launch QEIV (The Empire Fights Back) with his patsy banking mates.
