I almost feel sorry for Wayne Swan. Four months after delivering his most recent Budget, he is being forced into a substantial rewrite. But don’t worry, we’re told that the budgeted surplus will be secure. Poor Wayne must be unlucky. After his first Budget, he was forced into a major rewrite in February 2009 under the title Updated Economic and Fiscal Outlook. Perhaps we are about to witness UEFO Mark II.
And we remain committed to delivering a surplus as Australia’s best defence at a time of on-going global turbulence.
If a surplus is the best defence against on-going global turbulence, why did Wayne destroy the surplus he inherited? Or was that just that bully, Uncle Kev, who forced Wayne’s hand?
Wayne should get a little more sleep and stop worrying. He will never deliver a budget surplus. Wayne’s role in life is to slay budget surpluses, not save them. Wayne murdered his best lover – the Budget surplus – and now cries that she is dead.
