You call that misogyny? I’ll show you misogyny

This was a pretty famous picture on the day that Obama was elected back in 2008. The fellow on Hillary’s right is Jon Favreau who is to this minute Director of Speechwriting for President Barack Obama. “He has been named,” as his Wikipedia entry puts it, “one of the ’100 Most Influential People in the World’ by Time magazine.” Yet as the text that goes with the picture puts it, “there he is, groping the breast of a cardboard cutout of Hillary Rodham Clinton as an unnamed pal wearing an ‘Obama staff’ T-shirt kisses and feeds her beer.”

By these standards, Julia Gillard has had a pretty tame time of it. If she would like some idea of what misogyny looks like, she should have a look at these chaps from the Obama administration instead.

  1. Looking for a newspaper to detail the Peta Credlin joke, and show video of the audience reaction.

  2. Small beer; if you really want misogyny contact these pricks. And who is importing them into the country, fucking Gillard.

  3. Almost misogyny. Close, but no cigar. Misogyny is ‘hatred’ of women. Think ‘All men are rapists’. That is hatred. (But of course it is misandry, so doesn’t count). If those two were saying ‘all women politicians are whores’, then misogyny would be a proper description.

  4. I was debating with a lot of US democrats during the 2008 election providing details of horrendous REAL misogyny (quoting chapter and verse) directed at both Hilary and Sarah Palin. The Democrat women shrugged it all off as the fortunes of war and the usual cut and thrust of election politics. I was absolutely astounded. Naive little me.

  5. Here’s some of what Hillary copped during the 2008 Primaries.

Hillary was described “cold,” “flat” and “unwomanly” (National Review’s John Podhoretz); “robotic” (the Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan) “angry” (Republican National Committee chair Ken Mehlman); a lesbian who conceived Chelsea after being raped by Bill (biographer Ed Klein); “Nurse Ratched,” “a castrating female persona” (Orlando Sentinel columnist Kathleen Parker on The Chris Matthews Show); “that buck-tooth witch, Satan,” “worse” than Osama bin Laden (Don Imus). Put “Hillary” into a search engine with “Lady Macbeth,” “dragon lady,” “ice queen,” “bitch” or “hag” and up come hundreds of thousands of hits.

    From Fox News and MNBC:

“Men won’t vote for Hillary Clinton because she reminds them of their nagging wives.”

“When Barack Obama speaks men hear ‘Take off for the future’. When Hillary Clinton speaks men hear ‘Take out the garbage.’”

“When she reacts to Obama – the look, the look is like everyone’s first wife standing outside a probate court.”

“When she appears on television I involuntarily cross my legs.”

“You get a woman in the oval office – what’s the downside? – You mean apart from the PMS and the mood swings – right?”

  6. Let’s not buy into Gillard’s mania.

Posing with a cardboard cutout and having some fun with your mates is not misogyny either.

  7. Let’s not buy into Gillard’s mania.

Agreed. But the above examples put the pathetic examples of so-called misogyny offered by Gillard and Co into some sort of perspective.

  8. Yeh, i agree with CL above it’s all too petty, but I don’t think it’s a “mania” of Ms Gillard it’s the latest McTernan tactic.

  9. “The Democrat women shrugged it all off as the fortunes of war and the usual cut and thrust of election politics” – the usual case for those lacking a moral compass.

  10. And your point is?
Perhaps the septics are better at it, but I don’t see the local relevance. Or are using the Canterbury-Bankstown defence – just boys being underdeveloped louts?
Sounds like a bunch of Young Libs on the turps……

  11. Of course, by crying “Look! A decoy!” while pointing to a completely unrelated photo from overseas, Kates single-handedly proves that any Australian disturbed by Tony Abbott’s behaviour toward women has obviously got it all wrong because … well, just look at that damning photo.

Thanks yet again for getting political discourse back onto an even keel in this country, Steve. God knows objectivity would be lost without you.

You’re a stupid bigot with deep seated psychological issues and lacking a well rounded or deep education.

We don’t care what you say.

  14. “We weren’t there, we didn’t laugh, we didn’t even pay the guy, Craig Emerson was preturbed and the PM was angry at the entertainer. Best party that never happened”

The NBN should be the big story at the moment. It is a monumental joke.

The truth is really quite stark when seen in print. Good point, Cohenite.

  16. …disturbed by Tony Abbott’s behaviour toward women…

Mmm. Mmm. Raising hundreds of thousands for breast cancer and women’s shelters while Gillard sends women and children to a watery grave by the hundreds. And that’s not even counting her High Court-blocked plan to send women and children to Malaysia to be sold into sex slavery.

  17. But CL, he voiced an in-principle lack of enthusiasm for abortion as a method of family planning! DISGUSTING. He should be shot.

  18. Obama’s political operatives are by far the most wildly overrated bunch of hacks in modern democratic history. Seriously. Can anyone think of a group of gross incompetents more highly regarded by their supporters and feared by their opponents?

    Oh come on

  19. @noname
“we don’t care what you say”
That’s rich, if “we” means all those using abuse, calling me an imposter, and telling me that I have no right to use my tag. Your stark bigotry gives the game away.

I don’t suppose you’d care to provide some instances of behaviour you find disturbing.
