Abbott’s Chief of Staff is a woman

To me, the most interesting bit about the “crude joke” made about Tony Abbott’s Chief of Staff was to find out that his Chief of Staff is a woman. Did the Prime Minister not know this when she accused Abbott of being a misogynist? The hollowness of everything that comes out of the mouth of the likes of Gillard, Roxon and Plibisek is quite astonishing to behold. Abbott’s Chief of Staff, by the way, is named Peta Credlin which I also didn’t know. Unlike those Labor time servers, this is a real position that requires genuine talent and ability.

  1. “So fucking what” should be the response to every element of this absurdly beaten up “gender wars”. Welcome to New Salem.
Meanwhile, what did Julia know when she did that Power of Attorney? THAT ain’t going viral any time soon.

  2. Cold-Hands

The Australian Magazine did a profile on her called Who’s the boss? ($). She seems a very capable woman.

  3. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

There was a (slanted) profile of her – I think it was on Good Weekend (Fairfax) some months ago – so it has been fairly public knowledge. Interesting that it has fallen straight out of the zeitgeist because no MSM have taken this up in Abbott’s favour: until the ‘big joke’ forced them to.

  4. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

ooops – it was the Australian, ta Cold Hands.

  5. Gareth Hamilton

“So fucking what” should be the response to every element of this absurdly beaten up “gender wars”.

So what indeed. It certainly doesn’t prove that Abbott isn’t a misogynist. Maybe he just likes having women subservient to him. After all, he’s her boss, isn’t he?

  6. I love that photo. They obviously like each other, and he is listening intently. They describe her as statuesque, and she looks like a big girl, what people used to call a “handsome woman”.

  7. candy

I think it’s a given she’s doing her job effectively.

Hope it’s okay to say she’s a tall and stunning looking woman, and I like her long wavy hair like that, really very pretty.
Probably the Labor ‘ladies’ are a teensy bit jealous.

  8. JamesK

What I’m really angry about is that I haven’t heard what the joke is or even its nature or essence.

The Canberra press gallery are truly self-important self-aggrandising hypocrites.

They were happy to ladle out the details again and again ad nauseum and increase the pain needlessly for Gillard’s mother and sister (doubtless at the Lying Slapper’s behest) to score points against Abbott and Jones.

  9. candy

    “I love that photo. ”

Me too, Julian, it shows personality and happiness and good work relationship, it’s a great photo.

    So Gareth is d’Hamster.

The change doesn’t appear to have instilled a logic capability.

    So no luck there Hamster

She’s beating McTernan to a bloody pulp. It’s like watching Sonny Listin box Richard Simmons.

    Go Girl.

  12. Jim Toohey

I’m intrigued why we haven’t heard more details about the actual comment?
Heard one smutty joke , heard ‘em all but it’s passing strange that we listened to Alan Jones’ comments replayed ad nauseum, read Peter Slipper’s texts in every newspaper, watched full word-by-word coverage of Abbott’s alleged wall attacks and sexist comments from Gillard,Swan and Co, but crude sexual innuendo about Abbott and his female CoS at a Labor function attended by a number of frontbenchers, will forever be veiled in secrecey it seems.

Or maybe the cream of our journalistic crop, finds itself in agreement with the Government which, according to yesterday’s Australian, now wants to call the whole thing off?

I’m sure someone will come up with a novel excuse…..

  13. Mick Gold Coast QLD

This’ll work – or it might. Worth a go I reckon.

“So what indeed. It certainly doesn’t prove that Abbott isn’t a misogynist. Maybe he just likes having women subservient to him. After all, he’s her boss, isn’t he?”

Oh too right Comrade, whatever you say, I’m with you Gareth Gareth.

Recap on what the Stenographers did in the past fortnight:

    1. Boorish remarks by AJ – Endless repeating of a comment which in theory would bring distress to the PM (yet they kept writing, saying & printing it)

    2. Slipper texts – A couple of papers printed them but most of the Stenographers do not and they change the topic to Abbott, Abbott, Abbott as soon as possible

    3. CFMEU joke – The cone of silence in place. No tapes, no reporting of words. The fact Swan spoke after brushed over.

  17. C.L.

    Too good to check:

There was apparently a video of the actual joke being told, but now it has mysteriously disappeared….. I think on YouTube.

The joke was re Tony Abbott and Peta Credlin having an affair and making fun of the physical features of Peta who has a large jaw and tall build so very stupid and childish sexist stuff.

Apparently this Peta lady is very good and quite capable so they are deliberately targeting her and smearing her with dirt and lies and now it’s backfired.

The video shows Senior members of the Labor party laughing at the joke.

Apparently there is a big panicked instruction to all members and guests at the function to have to delete any photos of video and to also deny that they all laughed and carried on in this sexist and demeaning way.

Take that for what it’s worth.

But I guess the reason the msm haven’t informed us is they’re still trying to manufacture a suitable defense meme for gillard.

  20. Steve of Ferny Hills

Four days have elapsed since the “crude joke” was made in the presence of uncritical senior Labor politicians and we still haven’t been told what it was. It can only be assumed that it was hugely disgusting. Far more so than Alan Jones’.

  21. Gab

Oh, CL beat me to it. For once. :)

  22. Mick Gold Coast QLD

“I love that photo. They obviously like each other, and he is listening intently.”

Julian O’Dea – a mate’s daughter worked in a senior role with Tony Abbott when he was a minister and Leader of the House, for near a decade. She left some years ago to take up a splendid job with a Top 50 company and kicked on into her own consultancy eventually.

She’s a strong, determined and capable operator and she cannot be more complimentary about him – his genuineness, sincerity, good nature and so on. They remain in regular contact as good friends.

    That’ll do me.

  23. Token

Four days have elapsed since the “crude joke” was made in the presence of uncritical senior Labor politicians and we still haven’t been told what it was.

It has been filed with the texts the Stenographers received from Gillard’s staff during when they provoked the Aus Day.

Isn’t there someone working for a telco who could help finding a backup of the texts/vids sent from that cell tower during the function?

  24. JamesK

Gillard ordered to dump gender jihad, sends out the nearest thing she has to a man to surrender:

Wong calls for truce in gender war.

Deduction: Internal polling has told them what common decency should have prevented.

Unfortunately common decency isn’t common to any of the ALP harlots such as the Lying Slapper, Pliberjerk, Roxoff, Wrong and Woine Duck

  25. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

A sexual reference to the lady’s height and size of her jaw. Hmmm. The imagination boggles to think of what the gutter comedian’s take on that would be. No wonder the Party and the MSM have put it in a lead box and buried it.

  26. The best outcome of all this is that the word “misandry” is in use.

  27. James of the Glens

The inane and trollish comment by the chappie called Hamilton beggars belief.

One wonders if his false portrait avatar is an attempt to lend gravitas to an immature and peasant-class stupidity; as such, his words paint more of a miserable little Gorbals-McTernan image.
The type of fellow you would have swiftly escorted off your property.

Tony Abbott seems blessed when it comes to women; his good looking family, lovely Chief of Staff and female shadow cabinet members, not to mention the army of women who sing his praises.

In everyday encounters, I have not heard any woman denigrating Tony, but I have never yet heard a woman who doesn’t tear apart Gillard and her nasty, incompetent and miserable-minded lieutenants Roxon and Plibersek. And they do that with some relish and accuracy.

    Excellent!

The self-confessed racist, white supremacist, communist and anti-semite now adds elitist and misogynist to his sterling list of characteristics.

So, hammyracist, you think all employees should grovel to their bosses and that women should be subservient to you, eh?

    Nice.

Lord, you truly are a piece of excrement. Straight out of stalin’s USSR. You’d make a fine NKVD creature.

“I am John Proctor” ought to be an anti Gillard meme.

Ah, but I am merely amusing myself, and of course obeying the instructions of the Doomlord:

There are a whole bunch of theories about dealing with trolls. The most well-known being that you shouldn’t feed the trolls. Here are some others.

    * Be vicious to trolls. It’s not like you’re depriving anybody of food or oxygen.
    * Be capricious. If you’re consistent, they’ll know where the line is; if they know where the line is, they’ll skate to the edge of it.
    * Be indifferent to trollish suffering. Being called a facist (not a typo: most trolls can’t spell) who’s suppressing free speech* is not a cause for concern; it’s semantically equivalent to “You’re doing your job.”
    * Be obnoxious. Trolls do it because it amuses them to do it. Being made fun of is not amusing, particularly when you can enforce a ban. Remember: they need your site more than your site needs them.

    After all, if we don’t….

  33. SteveC

I don’t think there’s any mystery why the joke hasn’t been repeated in the media.

It concerned Abbott and his chief of staff, Peta Credlin, and was so odious — and defamatory — no sensible newspaper would repeat it.

  35. Rococo Liberal

Let’s be honest, we on the right don’t care if ALP MPs and fellow travellers make tasteless jokes about us. Such jokes only rebound on those who make them and those who laugh at them.

What we have rightly called the ALP is its Voctorian/Puritan hypocrisy. Those who see sexism, homophobia or racism in the most innocent of remarks or situations, and then call for the social ostracism of anyone who says anything ‘offensive,’ should be hounded out of public life when they themselves make any utterance that they would call sexist, racist or homophobic if it was made by anyone else.

of course any right wing person who makes what the left call an offensive remark, should immediately br lauded to the skies as actually saying something that accords with the general morality of the populace, a morality that has existed for thousands of years before the femonazis and their wimpy-boy followers tried to change what is the default human position.

CL is right, there seems to be a war against masculinity going on. So there gores art and science to the wall then, as it is masculinity that gives us risk takers and innovators. The sisterhood are all boring, intellectually vapid clones who couldn’t come up with any new idea if it bit them on their fat arses.

I’ve said before, but that is a stupid, self-defeating policy. The whole point of trolls is that they seek attention and/or to deflect attention, and/or to stir things up. Even if it worked, which it doesn’t, I’m not going there.

At any rate, – and this applies to everyone – beware what you say about people commenting under their real name, or whose identity is well known, as these threads turn up in google searches. Potential employers googling that person’s name will find your remarks about them. A defamatory comment is a defamatory comment forever. (unless sinc deletes it).

  45. John Mc

This issue has been over-analysed when the answer is staring everyone in the face: Abbott’s ‘problem’ with women is due to his appeal to them.

He’s a strong smart guy who came into leadership solely on his strength of character, so women see him as worthy of their sanction. Then he’s a fit, masculine, strapping fellow with a genuine interest in people, with an obvious soft-spot for the fairer sex. They know he’s surrounded by women who deep down respect and adore him, and his past has involved indiscretions that show his vulnerabilities. Suddenly there’s a little voice in their heads saying this is the type of guy you should be trying to connect with. In short: his sanction will make them feel ‘validated’.

Then they need to reconcile this feeling with modern feminism, MSMs version of the independent or strong woman, their obligations to support the first female prime minister (especially when she’s fairly unattractive and unlikeable), and their friend’s perceptions of them. And this causes internal conflict, which the hard-core feminists vocalise as one of the key tenets of their objections, because his type is a key threat to their world vision. Some of this ‘angry energy’ can be utilised by the media and the campaign engineers to create a narrative against him.

All he needs to do is downplay that side, or at least certainly never play to it. It just needs to sit in the background, as if he doesn’t know the appeal he has to the ladies.

Or just do nothing about it. He’ll still become Prime Minister soon enough!

  46. Infidel Tiger

    Ahmadinejad is more politically moderate.

    DD:

Futhremore, the advice is to throw away your own ethical standards aside in pursuit of a higher good. No thanks. Even if it worked, which it doesn’t, I’m not going there.

    Fair comment.

I do not agree insofar as ethics are concerned. I maintain my own ethical standards via the Golden Rule and ‘Turn about is fair play’.

In other words, I treat self-identified highly offensive leftists by their own standards. I do not do the same to anyone else – that would transgress my ethical and moral code.

There is no ethical dilemma or moral issue when you treat someone by the standards they treat others by, and restrict that to them, only.

I do not agree with many things you or CL or a host of others say. That’s fine, and because there is always civil discourse involved, it’s all amiable and civil.

That is as it should be.

But with trolls? Doing them slowly through using their own standards of discourse against them is completely ethical. And they hate it. Witness the disappearance of trolls like THR, who got smashed so much he crawled away whimpering. Witness things like Les, who eventuually revealed himself as a genuine racist and lefty habitue of white supremacist sites!

So it is ethical and moral to squish trolls:

Tolerating the intolerable or the evil is itself an act of evil. At some point, you have to take up a cudgel and wade into totalitarians with blood in your eye. And before you ask – yes, I and others did that quite literally in my youth, as a lot of violent anarchists, spartacists and socialists found out. And they thought it highly unfair that other students used their own tactics against them. I can still recall one violent anarchist whining about how it was unfair that he was being beaten to a pulp, that was what they did to conservative meetings and rallies. No fair to do it back.

yes, we broke into their meeting and pulverised them. They had done it to us nearly a dozen times, and thought it hilarious. After they hospitalised two of the girlfriends of our particular student body, we hit back.

But when we did it back, oh, the whining, cowering and arrant cowardice of them! It was unfair, you see, to apply their rules to them.

If you are going to take the pscho babble approach then I will put a few other views.

Tony Abbott is identified with getting rid of a female Queensland politician (Pauline Hanson).

Tony Abbott ousted a gentle man from the leadership position (Malcolm Turnbull).

Tony Abbott actually does things (surf lifesaving, firefighting, remote community support, fund raising for women).

Tony Abbott will be the next Prime Minister of Australia (not withstanding some of the crap of his ‘own’ side).

So we are going to be smashed at the next election, says the communist based brains trust, how do we get rid of him in the long term.

Their answer is to just lie as alinsky said

    We are

  53. Mk50 of Brisbane

Yes, Mick, but its still the same poseur.

I’ve been checking Numbers’ posts out when I come across them.

Basically, he uses his service as a way to buy ‘street cred’ among the left-wing circle jerk community.

There are very few Vietvets who do this in the manner he does, I was told ‘…it means he prostitutes his status for cred among the people who most vilified us [Vietvet servicemen and community] back in the day.”

The word I have been given is that by his real name, he’s fairly widely disliked for that reason, for all he’s a fairly personable bloke, they say.

I have never met him, so I can but base my views on how he behaves here. If he argues strongly and civilly, that’s fine. Different views, well argued, are valuable things. If he trolls, then that’s fine too. I like squishing trolls.

The ball is entirely in Number’s court.

  54. Merilyn

Now, now Mick take a big deep breath, click your heels together and maybe IT will disappear.

  55. “Abbott’s ‘problem’ with women is due to his appeal to them.”

This is closer to the “problem”. Also, the only reason it is fine to make fun of Abbott in speedos (whereas the equivalent mocking of Julia and bathers would not be acceptable) is because he looks damn good in them. And he can probably take it.
We should not complain about anything the ALP does. The more of it they do the worse it is going to turn out for them.

  56. JamesK

  61. Pedro the Ignorant

Numbers has been parlaying his stint as a Nasho back in the 70′s into “street cred” for years.

About 80% of his rantings include some reference to time as a private soldier. It was obviously the defining high point of his life, and unlike the vast majority of veterans he has never been able to resist pointing at himself and loudly proclaiming his “returned serviceman” status, especially when he believes it will add to his lefty credibility.

  62. Gab

Annoying as he is, Pedro, I feel sorry for him. His constant references to his national service seem to be some sort of cry for help. probably some lingering injustice perceived by Numbers, something that he cannot resolve, make peace with and let go. it may be justified or not, but to him it is real. Perhaps being derided by the left upon his return from the war still eats away at him.

  63. Jim Toohey

    Steve C.

Surely the assertion that Abbott physically intimidated a woman at university was defamatory?

    It was repeated everywhere.

I can’t accept such a patently self serving excuse for a double standard.

Journos print potentially defamatory slurs against pollies and their staff all the time.

The only obvious difference is that publicising the comment would make the Government look so gob smackingly hypocritical ( particularly if there is video showing them all having a laugh ) that even poor old Annabel and Co couldn’t ignore it.

No wonder the Labor message now is that we all need to settle down, leave the accusations behnd and focus on the issue again.

I knew the love media excuse not to publish would be novel but they’ve had time to come up with something better?

  64. John Mc

That’s what these losers want you to believe so they get your sympathy. He’s an idiot milking it for all it’s worth 40 years on. He’s just a standard parasite who gives a poor name to the decent blokes who did their duty then got on with their lives and now lead good lives.

So now a misogynist is defined as a guy who, being surrounded by capable women in his family life, seeks the same in his professional life.

Lizzie – examples of fixation on physical appearance:

Physical appearance is important to humans. It’s how we relate you dickwad.

And yes, Penny Wong buys her pin stripe suits and open collar shirts from Uncle A’s tailor.

You obviously don’t think appearance is that important because Kimberly, your plastic sex doll is not the discerning type.

  67. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

SteveC, I said it before: ‘lighten up’. Penny Wong does not dress as most women dress. A simple point made by CL, with a satirical comparative. You literalists just don’t get satire or irony; too stupid to decode it.

Gillard ordered to dump gender jihad, sends out the nearest thing she has to a man to surrender:

Same thing here for you Numbers re another of CL’s gems. Point 1: the ugly union commedian I called out was making a tasteless personalised joke about the sexual activity of a named individual, not a politician, and incidentally it is probably libelous.

Point 2: the comment above re Penny Wong in my view is a comment about gender definitions (about which there is considerable social debate) not sexual activity. The two are different (read up on it, dopey). In the context of Wong’s role as Gillard’s ‘diplomat’ to end a ‘gender’ war (war being predominantly a male activity), the comment is validly ironic.

Answering you two trolls after a lovely day out is definitely a pain. Go away. Comments from non-trolls on the Cat are kept satirical, not defamatory or libelous. They support the viewpoints of those who disagree with many of the accepted social and political wisdoms of Labor. These social and political wisdoms will be critiqued with humour and satire and ridicule and irony that does not overstep the bounds of decency. Your petty and silly little misinterpretations of everything are pathetic and should be ignored. As dd suggests.

  68. SteveC

Jim, if the story is clearly untrue (it was a “joke” after all), then to repeat it, knowing it to be untrue, would very likely be grounds for a defamation action, assuming the story was a slur. In the case of Ramjan, there’s an assertion by Ramjan that Abbott did something. The press reported the assertion. Abbott intially said, “I don’t recall”, then, “it didn’t happen”. I guess if he thinks he has been defamed he could take action.

  69. SteveC

Penny Wong wears very nice suits. I look her cool demeanour quite a lot, and she has a lovely quality of calmness in her voice. She’s not a bad sort really.

  71. candy

for an ALP minister that is.

  72. Rex

So now a misogynist is defined as a guy who, being surrounded by capable women in his family life, seeks the same in his professional life.

Mind you, she does seem rather mannish, apparently Antoine does go for those type of mannish ladies, I mean you just have to look at Mirabella and Pyne for that.

  73. Gab

Mind you, she does seem rather mannish, apparently Antoine does go for those type of mannish ladies, I mean you just have to look at Mirabella and Pyne for that.

Ah, low-rent Facebook humour. Rex, you’ve come up int the world.

Anyone else notice that these lefties seem to have a dire case of homophobia?

  74. dover_beach

SteveC, your comment at 6.50pm is just ridiculous because the distinction you raise would make the latter more defamatory than the former.

There is one obvious reason we are not being told this ‘joke’ or allowed to view it and that is because it exposes the tartuffery of the parliamentary ALP and its enablers clearly and unambiguously.

  75. Gab

Reminds me, i produced a lovely batch of strawberry ice-cream today.

  76. Jim Toohey

    Steve C.

No – both are unprovable; though I accept one was cast as a serious accusation and the other as a joke.

    That bolsters my case.

I’m definitely not a lawyer ( not even a bush variety specimen ) but an obvious joke is a much stronger defence against defamation than a serious accusation of violence – technically assault but not battery.

Wouldn’t it be more refreshing for the SMH not to treat us as fools?

  77. dover_beach

Gab, if you ever make it one of those lunches, do you promise to buy me dessert if I utter that word during conversation, appropriately of course?

  78. Gab

I see you’ve got my number, Dover. lol

  79. candy

Strawberries are wonderful at the moment. I bet your icecream is terrific, Gab.

  80. Jim Killen threatened to sue over allegations of adultery. And, more recently, there was the Bob Ellis defamation case.

  81. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

I would hate to trouble you.

    Hahahahahahahaha. What a droll troll.

Sarcasm, yes, I forgot to mention that. Little troll is learning.

  82. Token

Perhaps being derided by the left upon his return from the war still eats away at him.

Malcolm Fraser syndrome – the desperate sucking up to the people who made your life hell while you trash all those who stood by you.

  83. Token

Surely the assertion that Abbott physically intimidated a woman at university was defamatory?

    It was repeated everywhere.

I can’t accept such a patently self serving excuse for a double standard.

I think people have learned to be cautious about sueing after seeing how Merkel went all Basil Fawlty on Bolta during the White Nine trial.

Once in court the lefty fruitbats would disgustingly twist & distort every statement Abbott ever made, then the Stenographers would duly publish it all like they did with the sewerage Merkel spouted.

  84. David Brewer

Nice photo of Tony and Peta obviously getting on well. That trust is vital.

Even so, I suspect they buggered this one.

They may come out slightly ahead in the polls, with Gillard’s rant only turning on her existing base, while putting others off.

But if they had quietly negotiated Slipper out of the speakership, instead of angrily demanding it in public, Slipper might have come back to their own side. If that had happened, and with Wilkie still fuming about being stitched up over the pokies, the government may have been tipped out.

  85. Aqualung

    Token,

Don’t forget that Numbers became a teacher after his service – he would have constantly been assailed, and ultimately overwhelmed, by left-wing groupthink.

Not only would such a surrender have made day to day life easier, it would elevate him to that left-wing Nirvana – victimhood.

  86. entropy

David, I highly doubt that a) Abbott would take Slipper back; and b) that Slipper would want to come back.

The LNP had finally managed to shaft him after being stuck with him because of the grandfathering agreement of the LNP merger, the shafting being the only reason he was in play for Gillard. Most LNP members can’t stand him and his serial problems, and want Mal Brough back in parliament.

Besides, at the moment from the LNP perspective he is Gillard’s problem. She owns him.

Slipper knows the LNP will never give him preselection, and there is all the mean things they have been saying about him for the past twelve months (both pre and apres attaining speakership). And finally, to maximise his pension he needs Gillard to last as long as possible.

  87. twostix

Gillard ordered to dump gender jihad, sends out the nearest thing she has to a man to surrender:

    ahahaha

  88. twostix

We’re getting another demonstration of people who have made it based on competence (Credlin, Bishop, etc), vs people who have made it based on leftwing “quota” systems.

The Emilys Listers literally were’nt even able to start a witch hunt properly.

  89. NoFixedAddress

    @David Brewer @entropy

    Are you on this planet.

Are you ‘folk’ smoking out of the one peace pipe.

The fucking slipper is gone…finito…no more….

He is Road Kill on the side of politics..

Get with the talk about the real economic concerns of this country.

  90. twostix

Also regarding quotas and the sort of useless harpy that demonstratedly floats to the top under such a system: Consider that Plibersek, etc want to enforce that system on business.

Imagine Gillard or Roxon in a boardroom.

  91. Boris

beware what you say about people commenting under their real name, or whose identity is well known, as these threads turn up in google searches.

But I guess only if you repeat their name in your comment. The the comments are structured here, it will be a hard job for google, unless the reader reads to the whole thread. Which will be self-torture.

  92. Abu Chowdah

Mind you, she does seem rather mannish, apparently Antoine does go for those type of mannish ladies, I mean you just have to look at Mirabella and Pyne for that.

A beta male would say that. She looks very attractive. I suppose intelligence is a turn off for micro men such as yourself, Wex.

  93. old bloke

    Ahmadinejad is more politically moderate.

Imadinnerjacket is waiting for the anti-christ to climb out of a well, Wong is already working for her.

  94. entropy

Sure, NFA. Slipper is road kill alright. I was just explaining why there is no possibility of rehabilitation

  95. entropy

….even in the most Machiavellian of circumstances.

  96. Token

Don’t forget that Numbers became a teacher after his service – he would have constantly been assailed, and ultimately overwhelmed, by left-wing groupthink.

Thank of all those young and impressionable minds Numbers has polluted with the sewerage he spouts.

  97. “The Emilys Listers literally were’nt even able to start a witch hunt properly.”

    Good line.
