The Benghazi moment

You have the president of the United States being asked for assistance during the raid on the consulate in Benghazi on September 11 but because he is running for re-election in part based on his having defeated al Qaeda he refuses to send support and instead heads off to a fund raising dinner in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, for two weeks or more, he insists in public that the reason for the attack on the consulate was a spontaneous demonstration about a Youtube video on the birth of Islam. He therefore does not do what he was elected to do, he fails to defend his ambassador when under attack when he could have done so, has the maker of the video which had nothing to do with the raid arrested and put in jail and then lies repeatedly for the following two weeks about what he had known almost from the very first hours of the attack.

There is something so sickening about this that it defies my ability to understand such duplicity and deceit. Not only should the American people not re-elect this man; he should be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. He should be shunned by all decent citizens. He should become an electoral pariah, poison to any other Democrat who might in any way be associated with him.

The story of Benghazi is coming out and in a rush. The mainstream media, Obama’s enablers, are still doing what they can to cover up but this is now so far beyond the political normal that it will very soon become impossible to deny what is now evident beyond argument to anyone who has been following the story up until now. Here is an excerpt from just one such story of the many that are now rushing into the daylight from the few remaining media outlets in the United States that are not themselves lying and suppressing the fact in order to save this scoundrel of a president from becoming the ex-president in a few weeks’ time.

With all this information – from frantic messages sent by operators on the ground to highly detailed overhead battle-scene video – who invented the asinine idea that the attack was collateral damage from a flash-mob reacting to a provocative video? The record there is incriminating. For weeks afterward, the administration party-line was that the video, not al Qaeda, was responsible for the disaster, a major point of President Obama’s September speech to the United Nations. But when that story had morphed into an indefensible fiction, the party line shifted again, memorably summarized by Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. during his debate with Congressman Paul Ryan: ‘We didn’t know’ because the intelligence establishment was still beavering away.

What I cannot understand is the nature of the greater good the media see in Obama relative to Mitt Romney that doing all they can to hide these disastrous and dishonest actions they are hoping to preserve in having this man re-elected.

Clarice Feldman says the same: This is from The American Thinker where Clarice is trying to make the same point of exasperation. Where will the line be drawn for some people? If this isn’t beyond the realm of acceptability in a President, then when can a president be said to have gone too far? Over to Clarice:

In the simplest of terms, we knew there was general danger and had made inadequate security arrangements. When those arrangements failed (as they were almost certain to) we had a number of opportunities to protect the Ambassador and others — nearby military support, assistance from a nearby Spectre gunship and from teams stationed 2 hours away at Sigonella Air Base, All of this help was denied as coldly as the earlier requests for additional security and 4 Americans were murdered, giving our enemies an unwarranted victory.

From which she concludes in much the same was as I did:

Stand Down, Obama and your administration. All of you. Stand Down. You’ve failed to carry out your responsibilities of office. You treated American lives, including that of an ambassador — the official representative of your country — with utter disregard for their safety. You’ve lied to us about this tragedy so many times and in so many ways you can no longer credibly lead. You’re crass and vulgar and without regard for truth, law or common decency and deserve to be drummed out of office.

I don’t know what else there is to say other than to thank Token for the suggestion to include the above cartoon as well. The core of the mainstream American media are themselves beyond disgusting.

  1. Why did it take weeks for pundits to wake up to the reason it was being blamed on the video? I and possibly others posted here a fortnight ago that it was because it upset the giant killer AQ is dead election narrative.

Hopefully the scales have fallen from eyes in time for this to get out to the US electorate.

  2. When Romney wins I hope he doesn’t go mushy and forgive this abomination of a presidency by not pursuing Obama and the clowns surrounding him who are responsible for this scandal – one that’s resulted in the brutalisation of four Americans.

That nation needs to know the truth. And may it serve to smother the hyped up nonsense that’s used to construct an idea of Obama as some kind of great transformational leader with the plain truth.

  4. Obama, from the second presidential debate transcript

So as soon as we found out that the Benghazi consulate was being overrun, I was on the phone with my national security team, and I gave them three instructions. Number one, beef up our security and — and — and procedures not just in Libya but every embassy and consulate in the region. Number two, investigate exactly what happened, regardless of where the facts lead us, to make sure that folks are held accountable and it doesn’t happen again. And number three, we are going to find out who did this, and we are going to hunt them down, because one of the things that I’ve said throughout my presidency is when folks mess with Americans, we go after them.

He was lying. It’s pathological. Note the downplay on words – the embassy was “overrun”. No, it was “under attack” which we now know he saw in real time.

  5. After he’s out of office, it’ll be too late to impeach him, so what sanctions could he face? Malfeasance? Misconduct while in public office? Treason?

  6. It should have been impeachment ever since Fast and Furious became well known, and now this. Going back to the day, there was a considerable delay in any announcement from the Administration, and then there was Romney’s statement, which the msm and Obama treated with disdain. From that point, Obama et al were unable to admit the truth, captured by their lies, and then subsequently repeating them over the coffins of the slain. Obama couldn’t bring himself to be seen to agree with Romney during an election campaign. That kind of flip-flop would have been intolerable to the campaign team, and probably personally unacceptable to Obama.
As Abu says the whole killing OBL / defeating AQ narrative could not be endangered, but not just because of the election. Obama had built himself a personal bubble about this. So assured was he, that his pattern of attendance at National Security briefings declined, and similarly his administration were simply unfocussed and complacent ever since OBL’s death. The subsequent cover-up has now been blown, due to the Congressional enquiry. If there were any patriots amongst the Democrats in the house, impeachment proceedings should begin now, as they must surely know that Obama is heading for a loss anyway. None seem interested in retrieving any dignity in the situation however.

  9. Was General Ham, Commander of Africa Command, sacked for trying to help rescue the survivors of the attack? Apparently the CIA team fought on for 7 hours, whilst aircraft were available in much less time than that, and Special Forces were only 2 hours away. If Ham was sacked for trying to save Americans against the orders of the President, it will show that there is no level to which Obama will not stoop – except to then lie about it to the American people for a month after the event. Let’s not forget that Hillary told a grieving parent that they would prosecute the maker of a film that had nothing to do with the event. These guys are evil filth, happy to sacrifice anyone and any principle to stay in office.

  11. Clarice Feldman at American Thinker expounds a little more on the tragic consequences on inaction.

But the basic principle here… is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on.

Should there be a fire at his home or a holdup as he walks the street, I hope Panetta doesn’t run into rescue personnel who share that view. In any event, the point was inapplicable on the facts. There was, as the Fox report makes clear, more than sufficient information upon which to act.

    Bgates says it best:

There’s a basic principle here, and the basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on, without having some real-time information about what’s taking place

There was real-time information about what was taking place. American citizens at the scene observed what was going on and passed along an executive summary which summarized current conditions, extrapolated existing trends into the future and suggested an action plan, roughly: “They are shooting at us, and you need to send help or we are all going to die.” [snip]

Dem rules for jet use: Armed assault on US embassy? Wait and gather more info. Need to get Sen Brown to DC to pass stimulus? GOGOGO!

Stand Down, Obama and your administration. All of you. Stand Down. You’ve failed to carry out your responsibilities of office. You treated American lives, including that of an ambassador — the official representative of your country — with utter disregard for their safety. 28. Of course, if we want to go full intrigue, rather than just blind opportunism in the White House, how about this ?

The Al Qaeda attack went on in waves for seven hours.

They took the Consulate and killed the ambassador, which was probably the main political target.

And then spent hours assaulting the CIA compound. Disrupting the CIA’s efforts to track weapons and militant groups was the main operational objective.

But on the doorstep of the Mediterranean with the U.S. Military all over the place, how suicidal or confident do you have to be to maintain a seven hour siege, including dragging up heavy weapons in the shape of mortars and not be wondering about eating a Hellfire missile at any point ?

Al Qaeda seems to have been spectacularly unconcerned about being counterattacked, at least until the reinforcements were on their way in from Benghazi airport in the early morning ?

Do they have friends in high places ?

And he went as far as to compare it to Watergate. “Somebody the other day said to me, ‘this is as bad as Watergate,’” McCain said. “Nobody died in Watergate.”

  37. A long time ago I made friends with an American IT specialist who worked for the US State Department through an internet game called ‘Eve Online’. This man spent time working in various hotspots around the world (Iraq, Afghanstan, Syria, Lebanon to name a few) and often during those stints he would disappear offline, sometimes for hours at a time, only to return to tell stories of mortar shells etc landing in/near the places he was stationed.

On Sept 11 2012 while playing Eve, my friend (whose name was Sean Smith) posted the following 2 lines of text into the game’s chatbox, before disconnecting abruptly:

    (2:40:22 PM) [redacted]: F**K
    (2:40:24 PM) [redacted]: gunfire

We knew that he was stationed at the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. We all assumed that, like every other time he had done the same thing over the past few months, Sean would be back online after a few hours and have another story about the locals ‘celebrating’ a local wedding or similar.

Sean never came back online. Instead he, the US Ambassador, and 2 ex-Navy Seals who were trying to stage a rescue attempt were killed by what is now widely accepted as an al-Qaeda led attack.

President Obama has, from day one, tried to deny the reality of that attack, deflect blame away from himself and his administration, and refused to answer questions from the families of those men killed in Benghazi.

Obama, and his senile side-kick Biden, have either ignored or made coarse jokes to the families of the deceased when their bodies were returned to US soil.

This president… this ‘man’ (and I use the term in the loosest possible sense) absolutely disgusts me, and when the full truth of what happened on that day is finally revealed and his incompetance… his chicken-s**t attitude… his outright COWARDICE is finally revealed to the public I hope that he is arrested, tried for treason and crimes against humanity, convicted, and sentenced to serve the rest of his natural life in the deepest, darkest, most putrid and filthy hole that can be found.

And even that would be too good for him.

The best way to work through the timeline is this longer video by Bret Baier of FoxNews. Start around 13 min.

  50. I’ve followed this for the past several weeks and I’m simply staggered at what Ozero has got away with and the extent of the cover up to protect him. Clarice Feldman’s piece in The American Thinker yesterday was a beauty.

I heard and later watched a calm and moderate Charles Woods speak of the weak little coward’s whiney voice and limp handshake as he looked past him and at the ground when his son Tyrone’s body came home.

Woods also stated straight out that Clinton lied to his face.

Put yourself in his shoes. His adult son has been sacrificed to save the muslim in chief from upsetting his Middle Eastern masters. The vile little man has watched the military video as it was unfolding, decided Tyrone Woods had no political worth, sauntered off to bed then flew to Las Vegas to sell more of his anti US poison. Put yourself in Charles Woods’ shoes – they’d have to prise my teeth off his jugular with a crow bar.

Obama is a filthy piece of work, the most deliberately divisively racist senior national leader in my 40 odd year adult memory and his pig ignorant constituency rise and applaud. He publicly spits on Tyrone Woods’ integrity, sense of duty to those for whom he was responsible and his courage and the slobs applaud.

Watch Jeanine Pirro on Fox (http://bobagard.blogspot.com.au/) interview four senior military figures yesterday, they are scathing. The commander of the USS Cole describes Obama’s action to deny assistance as “culpable negligence”.

Senior US Army and Navy leaders stood down:

CIA station in Benghazi offered to help, ordered to stand down:

Obama was watching the attack as it occured:

The protocol followed in these situations:

The Benghazi attack was a botched kidnapping attempt:

Why are the US Military still taking orders from this man? Why aren’t the tumbrils rattling down Pennsylvania Avenue?

  60. Moslem Brotherhood penetration of the Obama administration.

    from that link,

Want to Know Just How Close the Muslim Brotherhood Is to the Obama Admin?

    Old Bloke,
I have read that before and is a very worrying aspect of Obama’s Admin.
Seems the Lefts new religion is Islam while damning Christianity.

  61. “why aren’t the Americans burning down the White House?”

Discovering the details of the deliberate abandonment of these strong young men by their president (small p only) has moved me to ask that question too, old bloke.

I wonder also about the generals who are too pith weak to stand and speak out against all his offences in dealing with the wars with islam. I fear they have all become career public servants.

As to the botched kidnapping possibility – with this dissolute charlatan anything is possible.

The US is being surrendered, the MSM knows it and is reporting none of it.

  62. And who is “William Bragg” anyway?

The real Bill is that rich socialist troubadour, whose guitar sports the motto, ‘this machine kills fascists’. His transatlantic politics idealise the revolutionary 1930s with Woody and pie in the sky and the honest workers v the evil capitalists. Its amazing that such a primitive economic mind could produce such sublime poetry and music about love and relationships.

This is probably not the same guy, despite some obvious similarities.

  63. More details have come out noting that the trouble that was brewing that night in Benghazi was seen by observers near the compound:

For starters, we now know that not a single American life should have been lost. Trucks with with the Islamist cell’s logo and with heavy machine guns mounted on them took up blocking positions around the consulate no later than 8:00 p.m., according to Libyan eyewitnesses. These so-called “technicals” did not let anyone in or out for one hour and 40 minutes, until the attack began at 9:40 p.m. local time.

In that time, air assets based in Italy, Sicily, and the Mediterranean Sea could have easily dispatched the forces preparing for an attack, using precision weapons to destroy these logo-identified blocking vehicles. There is every reason to believe that the timely launch of air assets would have destroyed the attacking force as they prepared for their assault, without the loss of a single American life. For reasons as yet unknown, these easily identifiable enemy assets massing for an attack on the U.S. consulate were met with indifference by U.S. forces.

The inaction of the US agencies – CIA, State Dept, Military is amazing. Once again the obvious question is posed:

After reading this, I was simply stunned. According to the article, an American CIA agent had a laser on a target and was attempting to call in close air support — and was denied. While this article never explicitly says so, some have suggested that the “security officer” in the article was Ty Woods, soon to be killed by that same mortar. Let’s unpack this.

In this context, there are two ways to “lase” a target. One is simply using a visible laser designator/laser sight to point out the target’s location. The second is the use of a laser target designator (LTD), which is a far more sophisticated device. An LTD uses coded pulses of a band of light not visible to the human eye, and these pulses communicate and synchronize with an aircraft-mounted module to direct a finite and fairly exclusive family of air-launched guided weapons.

…If the CIA operators were using an LTD, it additionally means that air assets were not in Italy or Sicily on the ground. It means that strike aircraft were overhead, and were denied permission to fire from someone in the chain of command. LTDs must sync with overhead aircraft; they have no deterrent effect since they use a spectrum of light we cannot see and can only communicate with craft overhead.

I will caution that this is highly speculative, but an LTD would presumably not be used for just any variant of the C-130-based gunships. While we did have AC-130 gunships based close to Benghazi, they would not make the best use of targets lit by an LTD. The AC-130 uses guns, not guided weapons.

  64. This is how the article ends noting how it looks like the Obama admin via Ambassador Stevens was funnelling arms to the rebels in Syria:

Retired Admiral James Lyons notes various sources claiming: ”One of Stevens’ main missions in Libya was to facilitate the transfer of much of Gadhafi’s military equipment, including the deadly SA-7 — portable SAMs — to Islamists and other al-Qaeda-affiliated groups fighting the Assad Regime in Syria.”

Barack Obama has long had a cozy relationship with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and their alliance with Islamists in Syria battling Bashir Assad has been criticized before.

If Ambassador Stevens was facilitating weapons transfers from Libya to Syrian Islamist forces aligned with al-Qaeda, via his Turkish alliance, then we are at a troubling, perhaps catastrophic point in this republic’s history.

We have been at war with the Islamist hydra of al-Qaeda for more than a decade, and now sources are accusing a sitting president of arming this enemy.
