The Australian has a story about the so-far missing letter to WA. h/t pete m in the Forum.
The revelation, contained in a document released today after 17 years, comes after days of stonewalling by the Prime Minister, including in parliament, on the question of whether she had personally vouched for the Australian Workers Union Workplace Reform Association.
The document, a record of interview between Ms Gillard and her law firm, Slater & Gordon, in September 1995, reveals the association was initially regarded as ineligible because of its “trade union” status.
Ms Gillard overcame the obstacle by writing to the Commissioner for Corporate Affairs in Western Australia in 1992 and arguing that the decision to bar it should be reversed.
Ms Gillard also wrote the association’s rules, which emphasised worker safety but made no mention of its true purpose of funding the elections of union officials.
The document reveals she “cut and pasted” some of the rules from her earlier personal work incorporating the controversial Socialist Forum, which she helped found at Melbourne University in the 1980s.
Now what?
Remember that this scandal is just the tip of the iceberg of corruption which has eaten the heart out of the trade union movement and the ALP. This has gone on over many years, with the assistance of the progressive chattering classes and the MSM, most notably the tapayer funded ABC (news and current affairs especially). Taking up the comment that they didn’t really help deliberately, that they just ignored or could not see what was happening, that is a fair call to some extent. But the whole point of being an educated person is to try to understand what is happening in the world of ideas and in public affairs, and to communicate that to students and the interested public. Our academics and intellectuals have largely failed in that responsibility.
The media have a similar mission, at a lower intellectual level, apart from those who have higher education (which is most of them these days). Clearly the expansion of higher education has lowered rather than lifted the standards of the MSM and the quality of public debate. Work that out.
Nothing is gained simply by cutting off the head of the serpent, the whole infrastructure of ideas, groups and influential players has to be revealed and subjected to scrutiny in the light of day.
Homeward bound. This evening I take to the air from LA and return to reactivate the Lower Neutral Bay faction on Friday morning. You guys make sure nothing bad happens in the meantime!

certainly happy today JC, after Abbott’s total cock-up of an attack.
Salespeople for Carla Zampatti and Perri Cutin both told me they had done jackets for her. Actually they do some very good jackets, but now I prefer Armani anyway, they are better made, less ‘bossy’ and prettier in general. Love my new one, and also picked up an Armani t-shirt that is a bit see through and like one I owned years ago which was the only good thing I had to wear. Saw me through (or some saw through to me, as it were). Impulse buy recently, in memory.
Gillard has tried hard in the image revamp but her shrieking performance over the past few days has cheapened her beyond any repair by simple couture. Plus, her choice of clothing has been nothing as ladylike as Bishop’s.
I’m with Candy on how Abbott looked – great, and Prime Ministerial. Sooooo pleased to hear him authoritatively state that this was ‘not a gender’ issue. As CL says, his education can show and Gillard’s seems very deficient in contrast.
Yeah DaveF, the Steves and I are on a roster set out by Richo, funded by the Obeids and managed by Mark Arbib. In fact, Arbib got so busy coordinating us that he had to give up his senate spot.
Stephen Smith comes across as shifty and they obviously have something over him or why would be be so amenable to demotion from Foreign Minister?
He is crap in Defence, although that is a hard portfolio.
What are you so happy about steves? Explain.
You can’t go past Chanel for women, but it helps to have an athletic figure most MPs (male or female) simply don’t have.
Right JC on the cartwheels.
Imagine it – you get drummed out of the law for fucking up. You helped the B team in the union steal a load of money, quite oblivious to the fact that the management of the union (which is huge client of your firm)will be righteously pissed off.
Your name is a walking scandal in ‘Labor circles’ – particularly as you were boning one of the B team – and he was married.
So what do you do ? Do you put your head in your shell, learn some life lessons and move into a more healthy and productive line of work.
Fuck no – you parade your shame in the most public venue of all – you run for parliament.
Look at the time stamps mate. lol
Always within 2 minutes.
I really got it wrong to begin with when I mistook Dogshit’s Best Friend for a government spin doctor because he talks like one. He’s actually a milk drinker who wouldn’t know politics 101 if it jumped up and nipped him on the left ball. You’re a dunce, sport.
Lizzie,
The pink didn’t really suit her do you think?
I think she’s better with dark blues and bronzey type colours, more earthy colours.
As I said JC, Abbott’s total cock-up of an attack. A whole week of promise that yielded nothing. Topped off nicely today when he boldy accused Gillard of illegal behaviour in the media, only to back down meekly in parliament when he had to face the fact he had nothing.
Absolute fucking dunce.
You like Karl Largerfeld’s fashion sense Dot?
No, no it’s must be true, Tom. I’ve read the same comment as stevec’s over as Fairfax.
m0nty, have you got your plain brown envelope from Obeid yet? He promised me, but I think I’ve been dudded.
Nothing? As in the government files gone missing?
http://www.news.com.au/national/witnesses-quizzed-over-awu-scandal/story-fncynjr2-1226526127202
Absolutely. Look, I suspected last night that Gillard would try to finish the year with one of her phony “fiery” and “blistering” orations. But there she was: found out, nervous, abandoned by her own benches (who were as quiet as mice), rambling, lying, playing the victim, near hysterical. And I noticed that Abbott spent almost all of QT looking at her in the eye. He was a rock.
Fat boy actually asked for his first sex in a brothel, but was turned down.
Calling for an enquiry and detailing the terms of reference is certainly an odd way to back down.
Not even Eddie could arrange that request, Steves.
Nah…those collars are too gauche.
I’m more of a aviators over wayfarers, Paco Rabanne fan. He designed what Jane Fonda wore in Barbarella, so he gets my seal of approval.
A man’s man’s man’s man in the fashion world.
where is Steve from Brisbane?
We eagerly await Gillard’s law suit against Abbott. LOL.
Maybe Tommo’s defamation lawyer can handle the work. He’s unexpectedly free right now.
SteveC, Gillard’s office told me the check was in the mail, from that fund she’s kept hidden all these years. Something about workplace safety.
“I am betting on Swannie as a compromise candidate who will be ”
Yeh, Leigh, I forgot about w.Swan. He’s a bit of a chance in any leadership tussle, as people kinda see him as the treasurer who saved us from the GFC and so on and doing a good job.
Who are these people? Have they pledged not to have children?
Swan is possibly dumber than a lovechild of Dan Quayle and Joe Biden.
As Rudd noted, he is a Dumb C..t.
Here I was thinking Tasmania was a hotbed of free-market entrepreneurs, business people and rugged individualists. To my disappointment it turns out they’re mostly just public servants down there.
“Ellen of Tasmania”, of course, being a lovely exception.
I have money on Crean as the leader for the election.
If she fails they want a stop gap and a safe pair of hands, they know they can’t win. He runs and loses then steps down with the ‘talent’ stepping up.
So Crean. he’s 65 next year, leadership experience, ready to soak up his super and be gifted a Union backed board position or 2. Never won an election but that isn’t the metric.
17s
From Wreck’s link..
Oh goody, so the fraud squad is investigating now. Looks like the stuff Blewitt told them appears worth looking into.
But according to Steves and Fat Boy.. it’s all in the past and orchestrated by Tony Abbott.
Nothing to see here definitely.
The Fraud Squad are involved, there’s a complaint to the Vic Law Society, Gillard’s star witness’ ‘evidence’ the other day on the ABC has been shown to be a pack of lies, the back bench is in revolt (totally shit scared of the Leb vote in their rock solid ALP heartland seats), Fainey’s busy as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest putting out brush fires.
Just another day in paradise.
And not one single mention of the M word.
I thought that was her “thing”.
Abbott is now occopying the frontal lobes of the Steves and mOron. Numbers frontal lobe was electrocuted years ago
SteveC, Gillard’s office told me the check was in the mail, from that fund she’s kept hidden all these years. Something about workplace safety.
Might be some of the money she helped Wilson steal from the widows and orphans.
Wow. Gillard’s dishonest “false report” claim against Fairfax must have crossed the line. They poleaxe her for lying and dodginess: Laughing off inconvenient truths.
Swans a chance but he won’t keep his seat! How would tat add up?
Enough of your bush lawyering JC.
Let that be a lesson to those dumb coppers – don’t read the cat, the predictions made here never come true. monty, steve/s and numbers are also a crack legal team the way possum, bird, mumbles and paxton are a crack economic consultancy.
Dude, lets not go overboard now. Bashing a keyboard all day at the Cat while scoffing down 40 dunkins is nothing to do with worksafety.
What a worthless human being.
Thanks for the correction DaveF at 9:57pm
Proves the point.
Grand announcement, big bureaucracy, fuck all results.
Don’t get me wrong … I really feel for the profoundly disabled, and particularly their parents as age catches up and they worry about the security and care of their adult disabled children.
But I fear the beneficiaries of the NDIS might end up being the Bill the Greek bullshit artist who developed a bad back from digging holes in Bruce and Ralph (and Julia’s) backyard.
That’s surprisingly right. I did the count (and finally learnt how to spell misogyny).
DaveF, Watch carefully. Bob Carr is $15.00 to lead the ALP; if they can’t win, he may become the seat-saving option. The panic and delusion are so wild they may actually think they can pretend to the electorate they’re conservatives under Carr and the past five years didn’t happen. I think he’s big overs.
“And not one single mention of the M word.”
because ALP Steve Gibbons just yesterday on Twitter called Julie Bishop a bimbo. So using the M word was out of the question today.
You’re right Podsnap, the apparatchik and I had a hearty laugh about that one. We even sang It’s A Hard Knock Life to the tune of La Marseillaise.
Everyone does. Private charity does a lot here, but Rudd tried to close down philanthropy, remember that?
The NDIS is bullshit. Ideally a commission with three or so commissioners or ten or so staff would have been given powers to set up something like PHIAC (which has a director and 30-50 staff IIRC) to run it all as a coordinating agency between the states and the Federal treasury. Ideally it would be implemented with coincidental, broad based tax reform at the state and Federal level.
That’s it.
We also cannot run a Government without accepting there are opportunity costs. We are already deeply indebted, have seen new taxes and an unsustainable increase in spending.
The NDIS may be well justified but then we ought to cut the least important Government functions equal to the NDIS spend.
I’m also sceptical this is the best way to do things. So little of SS&W actually gets to the indigent.
You can’t squirm out of this one. She not only is a financial cannibal, she preys on orphans.
How Dickensian.
Leigh:
I really do take an interest in the NDIS because its a semi ok idea but a rotten plan. At best it’s a ponzi that will never be properly funded or regulated at worst it’s a flat out lie giving hope to real people with a real burden.
Either way its wrong, wrong, wrong in my opinion.
You know it doesn’t include over 65s? That’s right the 400k it expects to cater for – at the same cost of Federal Medicare – are under that age. Have a birthday and want you had before disappears.
Ponzi or lie. I lean towards lie.
Those “misogynists and internet nutjobs” must be laughing their tails off.
Everyone is talking fraud.
Where did the money come from?
Answer … Major construction companies.
Did they donate freely?
Answer … Give me a break.
I suspect charges like extortion and conspiracy are on the agenda.
I believe that all of them thought that what they were doing was just a tax on the capiltalist bosses ….. not stealing at all.
want = what*
Except that then the coalition switches gears to Obeid, Tripodi, and the Labor right. Nope, the AWU thing has completely ruined Carr as a potential leader.
There are two former leaders in the Caucus: Crean and Rudd. Surely as the AWU grows into a full-blown crisis it’s between those two. Anyone new is too much of a risk; that includes Shorten.
I say that with no inside information; just common-sense observation.
Nice summary line from Merritt in the Oz:
You can huff and puff as much as you like but, as an Officer of the Court, this is the one that will get her.
Jung and naif!
Hey Gab ….. I think it might be a stretch to dismiss Olive Brosnahan as a …. how you say? ….. “mysoginist nut-job”
I am visualising thick glasses and a twin-set.
And I find that strangely arousing (sorry Olive)
I’m guessing you’re a ‘dregs of the middle class’ kinda guy Monty.
I’m new to the blog – could you explain to me why everyone refers to you as ‘fat boy’.
Is it because you’re fat or just on the general principle that you’re a cock ?
Plus the fact that AWU WRA was used to perpetrate fraud. She aided and abetted that fraud.
The NDIS may be well justified but then we ought to cut the least important Government functions equal to the NDIS spend.
The Arts Council would be uncontroversial.
No. Leigh. At gillard’s August presser that’s what she called people such as Mike Smith and Hedley Thomas.
from CL’s link
Well I did get some banknotes in the post, but they were all covered in dirt, and made of paper, so wasn’t keen to take them to the bank, they might have thought it was a bit suss.
heh.
Oh yes, you’ll fit right in. Welcome aboard, Podsnap!
Ooh yeah SteveC, I do hate it when the unmarked notes get all soggy with mildew. I wish our bagmen wouldn’t take their job so literally.
It’s JC that does that. m0nty’s previously revealed his actual identity so some of us know who he is.
It’s a bit rude, even if he is trolling.
Steves C.
Okay. Retelling the same old joke over and over again is not only very gay, it’s also very boring.
Kon Spyridis – is he related to Con the fruiterer?
This was excellent:
Your first instinct was the right one, Podsnap. He’s “a ‘dregs of the middle class’ kinda guy”.
I put money on Crean before Carr came in.
The bet is on leader at the next election so I think Carr is ineligible as Upper House. Or do I recall a, can’t think of his name, Lib, upper house, mad rooter, RAAF hero who became PM 60s.
My thinking is they protect their prospects from a debacle election. Who was the leader in NSW, QLD before the elections? Toast and ruined.
Exactly DaveF.
The hallmark of this gumment.
Nice idea, shame about the execution.
OXYMORON ALERT!!!
Gorton – Dave F
No no. His face was burnt up. I know who it is but his name escapes me.
Had about 2 years as PM
Oh I missed this:
Here. Judge for yourself. Note the sloppy out of his trousers shirt, the stupid hat, the black word socks and sneakers.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/91779052@N00/4459193302/
And he’s not an asshat (cock). He’s a 40 year old virgin.
That pink was Zampatti’s last year’s colour and it looked perfectly hideous on her with the red hair.
As with many things, she has no idea about clothes. For a large part of her life she has worn polished leso bovver boots and striped man-suits with rick-rack braid on the collar. It was a big change to move to the couture and pearls. Whereas Bishop is clearly at home in feminine tailoring.
Thanks Pod:
Yep,k John Gorton. Used to climb over the walls at The Lodge to visit lady friends.
Now wasn’t he in the senate when he was leader and stood for a seat in the house for the election?
Who was the the darts caller who used to intone …… “ONE HOONDRED AND EEEIIIGHTY”
That has hit the centre of the target.
Who was the the darts caller who used to intone …… “ONE HOONDRED AND EEEIIIGHTY”
That has hit the centre of the target.
Gorton, and he had the pleasure of being shot at 10000 ft above sea level. I don’t know if “war hero” is appropriate but I’m not taking anything away from him.
Bob Carr is not that man. Carr is actually quite clueless. His Senate speeches sound like he is not even self aware.
Thanks for the photo JC, those soggy unmarked notes you’re getting from Arbib apparently didn’t go on clothes Monty.
I’d say that would take some balls.
Bob Carr is not that man.
Understatement of the year.
Well he certainly turned up to the front and was injured Dot. And the ladies man stuff is apparently true.
I still rate Curtin as our best PM.
Hard to compare Dave F.
I think with regard to Curtin we could at least say pace Symbol “Julia Gillard is not that man”.
But I am being mean.
Gillard has made some efforts to present at a well-dressed woman and that is to be commended, rather than see her stick to her old style.
A lesson I learned early though was that if you are wearing a certain sort of clothing, you have to present a personna to match, i.e. walk well, speak clearly and carefully, and not be ‘louche’ in any way. A background in the socialist feminist left would not assist here.
Yeah I went OT a bit.
BTW it’s Dot. Not Symbol.
Thanks Dave F.
Leaving aside all the festering wounds suffered by Gillard, and the prospect of a visit from the Victorian cops, Gillard has and will suffer an enormous loss of respect from the legal profession and those they influence, business leaders, senior public servants, diplomats and some trade union heavies. The pressure on those who control the votes of the MPs to dump her will be too hard to resist. But not too soon I hope, because the party will be more damaged the longer she’s there.
Yes Gab. Abbott was controlled, magnificent and compelling today. Unlike the shreiking harradon.
For the newcomers, the pompous lefty trolls here excuse all illegal and/or amoral behaviour of duckbum and union cronies because the end justifies the means.
However, not to be too judgemental, perhaps the ghastly m0nty would care to tell us which level of illegality crosses his line?
Lizzie I really appreciate these comments.
I have no idea on womens fashion and why they sometimes look ‘off’ but some commenters, including you, are helping me with the specifics of Our PMs dress sense.
I suppose it must be hard to get it right stepping up from vertical ‘slimming’ stripes to full blown in the ‘papers clothes.
I just reread that last comment.
Yes. I’ve outed myself as metrosexual.
Yup, they’ve all got her number.
Question: who here thinks she could ever practice law again?
John Gorton crashed three times. His war service was like a boys own adventure story. A very lucky guy .
When you compare his war record and subsequent service to the country it makes you wonder how cretins like agent orange live with their constant gimme gimme whining.
Doesn’t sound as if she ever did, Lazlo.
Just like Romney!
Gorton?
Big. Brass. Balls.
Pilot Officer with 232 Squadron flying Hurricanes out of Kallang. 21 January 42 he was scrambled to intercept some 7th Battalion bombers (IJAAF Ki-21′s) and tangled with a bunch of escorting 64th Sentai Ki-43′s. The Ki-43 was a much better machine than his model of Hurricane. Shot up and with a dying engine he tied to land BE633 on Bintan – basically a giant fuel farm – but she flipped when he put her down on the beach. His face was torn off when it struck the gunsight. He dragged himself from the wreck and was promptly shot at by some native soldiers. He was off to hospital where they put his face back on. As he was so badly wounded Gorton was evaced aboard the Derrymore, but she was torpedoed and sunk by the I-55. AFter some hours paddling about with one hand and holding his face on with the other he was taken aboard a liferaft and was able to use both hands to hold his face on (he later joked that this was the only thing that saved his good looks) They were picked up by HMAS Ballarat and taken to Batavia from where he was again evaced to Freo.
He returned to combat ops later on.
Contrast and compare Gorton to the Lying Slapper.
And Hitler !
Is that intended as an intelligent comment SteveC, or just juvenility? Please let us know.
Oh come on! It must take a lot of fortitude to sleep with so many married men in order to advance your career. Someone has to do it!
OK John Gorton was not a war hero, or a great pilot from the wikipedia page. But he turned up.
Anyway he:
That was the only reason I brought him up.
It can be both!
I thought the correpondence between the earlier breathtaking descriptions of loser Romney on this blog and your description of Abbott today was remarkable, is all.
Well Julia fought very hard in the war against the common man in the early 90′s. She was a brave keyboard warrior with her allies of the Triple Entente.
Even 17 years afterwards she still gets very shaky remembering those tough times, and her memory is suffering from PTSD.
You really have given up on this topic.
These are just drive-by comments.
Check the time stamps. Within 2 minutes.
It’s hard to take you lot seriously, DaveF, when you’re dribbling as much bullshit as you have been today (note: not individualising on you, just a general comment).
He’s a troll, DaveF. His purpose in being here is simply to annoy people and pick fights.
A comment-poster on Blair’s blog referred too a female journ who had written rubbish as a “misogyny enabler”. Very clever, and ly describes Gillard and the hit-squad.
I can’t recall any breathtaking descriptions of Romney on my part but, as your beloved lardarse says, you can either put up or shut up.
But even so, both are men of principle, irrespective of winning or losing.
I acknowledge that you will have no idea what I am talking about.
I guess so, Lazlo. I mean, Gorton was not a really good PM, but cripes the bloke had balls enough to put it on the line and then insist on going back to the pointy end.
I have a general description of his injuries, wiki does not mention it properly. The impact with the gunsight tore away the face from the bridge of the nose down to the right, smashing both cheekbones and the upper jaw, dislocating the jaw. it was teh planter he was taken to who dusted the lot with sulfa and basically pushed his face back up over the bone and bandaged it back on.
Apparently there was a good deal of screaming happening during that process. I think that’s very understandable!
If you study his face in photographs, you can see where it was torn away. Lucky not to lose his eyes.
You’re spot on Dave. Monty is trolling now, too.
The voice of western Sydney says
Union corruption is plaguing Prime Minister Julia Gillard
Roll on HSU.
AWU, HSU all those letters sound the same to the average punter – what they all spell to him is C.R.O.O.K.
Still the Lebanese vote has been shored up.
So no worries…..
Romney is a man of principal, not principle. A rich man without strong core beliefs, a policy blancmange.
Abbott has principles, but he’s scared to advance them most of the time, because when he does he stuffs it up. So he mostly says nothing of substance.
And Julia Gillard is……
Twitter between @savetheALP and @WhereDoWeGoFromHere closed feed
Hell, Abbott was allowed out, how do we play it?
Shit, I dunno, lay doggo for a while. No misogynist card was played.
2 hours later…
Christ she’s toast.
Yep.
2 hours later…
We’ll play up Romney. Don’t forget misogyny is out of the playbook.
Right….Lets do this right.
m0nty and SteveC stride into the room….
Link again
Well she’s reduced me to a migraine.
The screeching, self absorbed tantrum chucking, dodgy garbage weilding abuser that we call the Prime Minister. She who objects to an Opposition Party.
Hell she is exhausting.
Bring on the Election before we’re all dead.
I hope those guys have a sense of humour. I think they do.
LOL
yeah pod corruption is killing the Labor brand in NSW.
You are simply a sloganising, ghastly and unnatractive fat troll, singing from McTernan’s song sheet. Fuck off.
Just as a side note: In Australia, Emily’s List was founded by two former Labor premiers, Joan Kirner (Victoria) and Carmen Lawrence (Western Australia). It claims to have 3,000 members and to have helped 115 women into state and federal parliaments.
Plus: To listen to Julia Gillard talking about her women mentors and the role of EMILY’s List Australia in her political development, check out this podcast from TripleJJJ’s Hack program, Wonder Woman – Who are their heroes?, 20 November 2009
And who was Premier of WA during the lovely Ms Gillards oh-so-persuasive years as a lawyer?
Why Carmen “Member of Brian Burkes faction” Lawrence Premier from 1990 to 1993.
The sheer amount of corruption being covered up by various factions of the wider ALP movement must be awe inspiring..
They meet each other, promote each other, f#$# each other and pay each other off. Who was one of the “expert panel” on the Gonski review.. Carmen Larence.
Thanks. But I do think you’re wrong.
I’m not a bomb thrower but I disagree with things you say. And, honestly I think you’re trolling and I’d prefer if you didn’t.
But that’s your choice so I might mock you a little.
If you have a substansive point I’m more than happy to engage.
Yes it will be interesting when all is revealed (in the Royal Commission) about how the file – the smoking gun – went missing in WA Corporate Affairs.
BTW trolls, a Royal Commission is guaranteed after the antics of lardarse this week.
I take it few here are familiar with the old insult of calling someone a yabby or crayfish, because they have meat in the tail and shit for brains? I first heard that in the seventies, used by RAAF officers to refer to a dunce in the ranks.
I agree a Royal Commission is needed. I possibly have standing as I joined the AWU in QLD in the late 80′s.
I don’t.
It’s already been used about lardarse Abu, along with red all over, and squeals when in hot water..
Shit!
Someone has hacked into my Adult Matchmaker profile.
It don’t see how that works….
Carmen Lawrence?
Are we happy with our treatment of Penny Easton?
Emily’s List types are vicious and corrupt.
Yes the Penny Easton affair. If anyone knows about sliming and smearing someone to the point of suicide it’s Carmen Lawrence.
Bunnyboiling skills are mandatory prerequisites to get into the List
Whatever it takes…
We are us souls
Gillard, (like ABC broadcaster/propagandist Jon Faine) let her practising certificate lapse. I think she needs to re-establish her qualifications before she could ever return to the law.
She may have let her qualifications lapse rather than be struck off. Her conduct in the ’90′s is the subject of a complaint to the LSC, so she still could be disciplined and prevented from returning to that career. Not to worry; Emily’s List will line her up for sinecures and directorships. Just hope they do a better job then the one they did for her mentor Joan Kirner, who’s crying poor.
Joan Kirner is broke I think.
It’s funny, I was thinking about the very same thing today. That was a very dark period in WA politics. From O’Connor through to Lawrence, we had a succession of absolutely outright crooks in the Premier’s chair (especially after the glory of the Tonkin and Court I years). About as grubby as you could get and it right then made me wonder why parliamentary privilege is allowed. Actually, I still wonder. I’m curious as to the arguments in favour of it.
Judging by the way she ran Victoria into the ground, she never could control her spending. She wasn’t Premier long enough to qualify for the parliamentary pension. Her supporters petitioned the Baillieu Government for one to be granted ex gratia but they were knocked back. I don’t think she’s starving but she didn’t salt away a fortune like Obeid or Arbib.
Yes, I’d forgotten Penny Easton’s suicide.
Funny how all the names/slime trails all seem to intersect time after time..
The ALP seems nearly incapable of casting crooks out of the “group”… (unless they “rat”)
So who did Tony Jones get on this evening to summarise the day’s big events?
Well, somebody famous for truthfulness and impartiality regarding Tony Abbott.
Tony Windsor – who actually seemed slightly pissed. Either that or I haven’t seen him in action for a while and he’s more retarded than I remembered.
Jones then proceeded to coach Windsor along to argue that, why yes, Abbott had Gone Too Far and, after all, there was nothing really to see here anyway.
Jones failed to remind/disclose to his audience that Windsor accused Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson of a crime under parliamentary privilege in 2004. The Australian Federal Police found that Windsor’s claim was a lie. The dog has never repeated the accusation outside of the Parliament and never will.
I went to tbe Samaritans dinner tonight at UWA. Nice talks and people. Politics is generally avoided, but I was fascinated by how federal politics is so obviously avoided by allusion. It is not possible to have a discussion mentioning the Prime Minister, because something unpolite will be said.
So we wonder what people may have thought if I was allowed to say it.
Just an observation, but people seem cautious about mentioning the war.
A great editorial.
Bravo.
Yes, a great editorial.
Who did they endorse in the 2007 election? Buyer remorse should have set in some time ago for the entire media but formthe fact that eighty percent of them are so rusted on as to be complicit in “whatever it takes, whenever it’s required”.
Would there have been a slim win by the coalition in 2010 but for the media going soft on the various “real julias” and her mate Goose, while making fun of Abbott for doing his damndest to run a red hot campaign?
Windsor is absolutely the person to get on to talk about the parliamentary year, seeing as he and Oakeshott controlled what happened to a large extent. Those two blocked Abbott winning any vote of any consequence at all, as they did last year. They also engineered Slipper’s demise, where Abbott couldn’t. Windsor is basically the co-Leader of the Opposition now, he has far more of an effect on amending legislation than Abbott has under a minority government.
The ALP seems nearly incapable of casting crooks out of the “group”… (unless they “rat”)

The ALP is best thought of as a small, religious group. They hang out together, intermarry, godfather each others’ children, look after each other, have affairs withering friends’ spouses, etc. a close knit cult. It is disastrous for the principle of the separation of church and state.
The libs just don’t have the same level of belief to bind them together. But that is a good, and ultimately healthy thing.
How Gillard manufactured one of the ‘smears’ against her:
Julia Gillard, Thursday:
Julia Gillard, Monday:
(h/t Andrew Bolt)
Monty’s hero: Tony Windsor.
LOL.
The sex thing is very interesting within the ALP. They root across all boundaries. Having seen Kirner’s name come up here,I recall an interesting plane trip to Broom some years ago where the polkadot lady had a young female friend in company. They stayed in our hotel for a week, and appeared to be on close terms. I wonder how many other “young and naive” up-and-comers had to go that route (did I say “route?”) to get ahead(?) in Victorian Labor in the day.
Recently I heard that Labor has a rule that if you are leader and get defeated at election you cannot run again??
I’m wondering if it applies only to Victoria which was the context in which I heard it and stress it is third hand news from me and an alllegation–a story about how they dudded Joan Kirner and used her to get Bracks into position for a shot at the “title”.
The top job was offered around it was said and the boys all refused to shoot crap and lose, so Joan ended up with the gig. Then they needed her to resign and allow Bracks time to get into the seat and settle in. Unfortunately for Joan she didn’t qualify for the pension( only about 9mths as premier) and Labor promised”to look after her” but they never did, left her sans pension or any funds, allegedly Red Ted has employed her part time as an advisor (said to be a sympathy decision at the treatment she got, as she was pretty well on her uppers)
