This one is a bit longer than we’re used to, but a good lecture to watch.

Me, I think its your own business if you take drugs, unless you interfere with other people. Lots to argue about I know, but the biggest problem lies in laws prohibiting freedom, and causing denial of responsibility.

God that was hard to listen to. Boys dont cry.

    Very interesting.

One potential cost he missed out on was the fact that when alcohol gets too expensive, then cheaper alternatives which cause even more harm are sought eg illicit drugs, whether or not they should be illicit is another debate.

I found the inflated social costs very interesting – double counting, no allowance in the social costings for the benefits of moderate drinking, Id like to see the same rigour applied here in OZ, especially the NT to see what the real costs are and if our policies are actually effective.

And yes, he was hard to listen to.

From pommyland, I often hear the anecdotes of “one pound pinger” and three pounds for a pint (a few years back).

You’d be a pig of a man to need more than 6 or 7 in a night. (I’ve seen people actually do this, and they were trashbags [but they don't anymore, thankfully]).

For the price of one pint, the youth can write themselves off.

It would be sensible to make sure alcohol is cheaper, if other drugs really are so bad.

Given illegal drugs often have a huge markup, it is the responsibility of the Government therefore to either admit the war on drugs is a sham or abolish alcohol excise.

not to mention that there is a very nasty fatal disease where one of the main symptoms is alcohol consumption.

One of the reasons I’m sure violence in nightclub land is escalating is because disco biscuits don’t work like they used to. What used to cost up to $50 and send the heaving hordes into a happy huggy hive now costs a few bucks and is as useless as the ashtray on your Ducatti. As a result kiddies are turning to gear that does the job like Bolivian and meth.

The government should finally do something useful and demand that dealers start putting the MDMA back in ecstasy.

    Life?

It would be good if Tim Blair and the like could point to one instance in which a shooter was brought down by an armed bystander.

I’m sure many would be nutcases have been stopped in their tracks before they even got a shot off so we’ll never have any way of knowing what murderous lunacy they had planned.
