Gillard’s misogyny speech was written by a man

I read this in Christopher Pearson’s column and even then it took me half a day to appreciate what it said. I had probably heard the same before but hadn’t really thought about its significance. This is what he wrote:

McTernan is credited with writing Gillard’s misogyny speech and with her gender wars campaign.

Gillard’s misogyny speech was written by a man! Come on, it was written by a man!

I had actually thought at the time that as much as I found her speech vile and divisive, that it had been her own true self finally exposed to the light of day. Not a bit of it. She was merely repeating the words and sentiments put there by some male, a male who saw political advantage in her saying what she said. If he did not think there was political advantage, she would not have said what she said. It’s the reverse of the politics of conviction. It is the politics of the con.

Pointing out the phoney outrage of the Labor Party has to be at the top of Coalition policy in the election to come along with an emphasis on how worthless their promises are. Their specialty is outrage and discontent. They do not have a platform so much as a plan of revenge on behalf of the bitter and envious combined with a series of plans to spend vast amounts of money they do not have.

They are the singularly incompetent. On no issue has this government been a success. Nothing they promise to do ever gets done.

They cannot stop the boats. They cannot balance the budget. They cannot maintain economic growth. They cannot build the NBN. They cannot improve our education system. They cannot maintain national defence. They cannot reduce carbon emissions. They cannot keep living costs down. They can’t even devise a tax on the mining industry that actually raises revenue.

All of their outrage is a pretence and none of their promises will be kept. This must be the theme for the Opposition and it must start now so that when the election finally arrives this will be the thought in every voter’s mind whichever party they choose to vote for. No matter what Labor promises, the reality, the true reality in everyone’s mind must be that they NEVER deliver on what they say they intend to do.

Does he want a baby? Is it his right to have a baby? Is it every man’s right to have a baby? Is Abbot repressing him? Should I start calling her Frances? Will the baby gestate in a comcar?

    They cannot reduce carbon emissions

I have no problem with that.

  3. Mother G

I did think at the time Gillard did not have the capability to put the words together. McTernam must be the most divise person ever issued a visa to work here. Like last friday’s robotic outburst the woman has jumped the shark.

“they NEVER deliver on what they say they will do”

Mind you, we should be thankful for small mercies. Fortunately qualification for the ALP does not involve a record of achievement.

Imagine if their malice was matched with competence!

The Turd knows a lot about misogny ,Its a Poofter I beleive !
No way is giLIARd educated enough to use that vocabulary, common Sluts like her who shag their way up the ladder dont speak like that.how it got a degree is indicative of the low standards at the hundreds of “universities ” created by hawke and the lizard to “solve ” youth unemployment.

  6. Lew

If it was written by McTernan it certainly came from the heart. Does he,like the Slapper, have trouble getting his hands on a really good bull,is it possible that he,like the Slapper, has been rejected by the AbbottAbbottAbbott?

  7. candy

I knew she’d rehearsed it, you could see by her gestures. She and mcternan must have written and practiced it together. What a team!

  8. Token

Boris, his sexuality has nothing to do with it. Christopher Pearson is of a similar lifestyle and he does not show the need to indulge in such base, vile insticts.

Says it all. As for the legion of gullible women that bought this nonsense the less said the better.

  14. Fred Furkenburger

While I agree wholeheartedly with what you say, sadly the opposition would have to be very careful with this approach. Labor has already set up the “negativity” story which the media would happily re-inforce to Labor’s advantage. The opposition would be damned if they and damned if they didn’t so to speak. It’s a bit sad that even when you speak the truth in this country, Labour and the media will distort it to suit themselves.

  15. ella

I suspect McTernan spends a considerable amount of time pouring over information on the voting patterns of women.

The destination of this speech was primarily women, although it entertained the rusted on male, no doubt.

If the speech was written by McTernan it reveals what he really thinks of women – unintelligent and easy to manipulate.

    You might think I’m being bit of a meanie, but;

She thinks married women are whores
What’s the chance of her accepting marriage as an equal partner? She is a brutalist school feminist where women aren’t equals, men have to be humiliated
They’ve been living together for over half a decade
She’d even be more popular if she got married, but won’t even do that
She must have took up a fair bit of personal time to rehearse a fake “speech from the heart” with another guy who is going to not take an interest in her
He was a successful small businessman with children and step children, now he finds out about her home wrecking, outright lying to the public and hatred of business people?
Now she’s PM, he is kept away from the spotlight (maybe that’s his choice and he took one for the team on her ascension as PM but it looks like she has discarded him like refuse)

I genuinely feel sorry for him.

  17. cohenite

If the speech was written by McTernan it reveals what he really thinks of women – unintelligent and easy to manipulate.

Well, that’s right; and the PM is on record as thinking married women are prostitutes and who has rooted many married men.

Look at Thomson, Slipper and how Combert got rid of his female predecessor in the seat of Charlestown.

There is a lot of evidence that the ALP hates women.

Fur ferks sake all of you…get back on track with what Steve is saying.

    Steve,
I will hold up what to me is the greatest shining example of this mob and that is the “NDIS”.

And I am glad to see that some labor (whom do they represent anyway) person screamed that they own it.

    And someone needs to ask,
What are they insuring (outside of a macqdic. meaning)?
    Who are they insuring?
What are current support services not supplying?

This mob have already set up a thing called National Disability Advocacy Program, fully funded through Farks-ya (FaHCSIA, and it is fully funded.

As for the legion of gullible women that bought this nonsense the less said the better.

No no, Dover. This just in from Paul Keating’s old charwoman, Anne Summers:

It is probably impossible to over-estimate the admiration and affection for Gillard among women, especially young women…

  27. Jannie

In the real world Gillard is not a woman, and McTernan is not a man.

  29. Token

It is probably impossible to over-estimate the admiration and affection for Gillard among women, especially young women…

Glad to know that Summers think women will continue to vote against their economic interests. Henry Ergas summarised it well today how for 5 years the policies of Rudd/Gillard governments have set back the interests of women:

For despite all the noise Julia Gillard makes about gender women achieved far greater progress under the Howard government than they have under Labor.

Since Labor came to power, the female unemployment rate has risen from 4.4 to 5.2 per cent. And surveys show women feel more at risk of losing their job now than at any point in the Howard years.

At the same time, the female labour force participation rate has stagnated. Between April 1996 and November 2007, it increased from 53.8 per cent to 58.5 per cent. But Labor’s election basically stopped that rise, and five years on it still sits at 58.7 per cent.

As for the gap between annual female and male full-time earnings, it has increased by $3848. And while that has happened the cost of living for families has taken off, with utilities bills rising at an unprecedented 12.5 per cent a year, childcare charges increasing at over 8 per cent a year and health and education fees rising to a rate of 5.5 per cent. But the real risks for women go beyond those immediate concerns.

For few changes have made a greater contribution to women’s wellbeing than the labour market deregulation Gillard and her union backers are determined to reverse.

I wish I could find Christopher Pearson’s analysis of the Adelaide speech where Julia Elaine said:

“And the Greens will never embrace Labor’s delight at sharing the values of everyday Australians, in our cities, suburbs, towns and bush, who day after day do the right thing, leading purposeful and dignified lives, driven by love of family and nation.”

The values of everyday Australians ?:

    Wilson, S&G, AWU slush fund, widows and orphans fund;

    Craig Emerson – two year affair with Julia Elaine;

Bill Shorten – dumps wife for Labor royalty, GG’s daughter.

    Greg Combet – dumps wife for love media princess;

    Craig Thomson

    Musselman for Speaker

Milton Orkopolis – among more-than-few others of similar ‘values’.

I am sure the family-values list could roll on quite a bit longer.

They seem to have a very odd view of how the rest of us in the ‘burbs are living our lives if they view many of us sharing these values ?

  33. MichaelC58

    Well said Steve.
I come across people completely ignorant of this Labor debacle and I find it difficult to explain in one sentence the depth of incompetence, opportunism, moral corruption and downright malice in this government.

Australians are simply not used to this. They have no vocabulary for it, they cannot comprehend it.

Has Australia really stopped to think of the monstrosity of a PM’s department intentionally starting a race riot? Not some neo-nazi group, not a waterside union thug, but out PM! I think it is simply denied in our collective minds, because we like to believe that our governments are fundamentally good.

But this new Labor is different. Gillard is perhaps best described as the Mugabe of Australia, bringing all that’s rotten and corrupt with 3rd world African politics right here into our country. The rot is visible in NSW, but still hidden in Canberra.

What such mal-governance did for the once wealthy Zimbabwe, it is already starting to do for Australia, and it achieves this by deflecting attention through division, envy and hate, just as it did in Zimbabwe.

How do we wake up Australians and make them see, that the government product of their own electoral loins is in fact evil?

  34. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

  35. cohenite

Well said Myrrdin Seren and MichaelC58. The average punter does not have an appreciation of the depths of this PM and her fellow fuckers. Much of that is due to arrogant fucks like Summers and her paramour, Rowley, who now manages business at The Drum.

The rest is indeed ignorance; people do not think it is as bad as the evidence suggests.

People I speak to in the power industry say the punters will not stir until the lights go out, which they estimate will be sometime in 2013.

  38. Gab

I don’t. He can leave any time but I guess being paid to lounge around and watch TV all day, travel overseas gratis and only have to draw her bath is not a bad gig. Plus he has his shed he can duck off to whenever gillard has had a bad day, knowing full well she will not follow him into his off-limits to women cave.

Reminds me of the play/musical that was trotted out a few years ago called Respect and was all about the empowerment of women and the signature song was of course Aretha Franklin’s Respect.

The joke was on the feminist writer when it was pointed out that the song Respect was originally written and sung by a man, the great Otis Redding, and was about a woman showing a man respect. Aretha changed a couple of lyrics and added a catchy chorus line, to great success. But that doesn’t change the fact one of the greatest female anthems of all time is merely a cover that was written and recorded by a man.

    Jezebel will surely understand that.

  52. Gab

Good point, Lizzie. The misogyny angle has only been around since McTernan.

  53. “I genuinely feel sorry for him.”

If he was a real man, he’d dump the trappings of the lodge and dump her and cop the vitriol and scorn and screeching for the sake of what’s left of his dignity. Her misogyny rantings would get far less traction on the man who runs her bath every day. Decent people would see her finally for what she is, those left who are still in denial.

  59. harrys on the boat

So, although it wasn’t eloquently put by young Boris, in this case you would have to say, harsh but fair.

  60. Toiling Mass

McTernan did show some subtlety in writing the misogyny speech for Gillard.

The word ‘misogyny’ was used incorrectly. What with ‘hyperbowl’, ‘high dungeon’, ‘tenants’ of belief, ‘talibands’ etc, you would assume it was Gillard.

I found that rather amusing. I’m sure the luvvy media will run it all day.

There is a problem with the meme. The only statement Abbott made about the AWU affair was the last day of parliament.

In fact, the poll proves that the mysogynists who created the Herald/Nielsen poll were flawed in the methodology as they chose to ignore the role of that strong woman – Julie Bishop.

McTernan is credited with writing Gillard’s misogyny speech

Looks like everybody wants to claim the credit for this parliamentary milestone.

Jacqueline Maley: On the speech, had it been germinating for a while? How much of it was off the cuff?

Julia Gillard: Well … I knew that on the parliamentary day in question that there would be questions about Peter Slipper and issues about sexism so I did take into the parliament with me Tony Abbott’s key quotes which I thought were objectionable. Apart from that I did hand written notes as he was speaking and just got up and did it. So I hadn’t been thinking about giving a speech like that, I hadn’t prepared for the giving of that speech. I had the quotes with me. I did it off the cuff, made a couple of notes as to how I wanted to structure it as he was speaking.

This was a highly detailed answer to an innocuous question. Gillard and McTernan need to get their stories straight.

  71. Jazza

McTurd should go back to whence he came and post haste!

  72. Gab

So I hadn’t been thinking about giving a speech like that, I hadn’t prepared for the giving of that speech. I had the quotes with me. I did it off the cuff,

    Craig Emerson – two year affair with Julia Elaine;

No problem with any of your ideas Myrrdin Seren, but the Elaines I know have no desire to be associated, even peripherally, with the Lying Slapper. It’s Julia Eileen Gillard. It’s easy enough to remember- the lean is to the Left.

  74. Myrrdin Seren

    Well spotted Cold-Hands

    As I said elsewhere – it is a Monday ( groan ).

Mind you – given JEG’s regular torturing of the English language, I am sure it is a modest error by comparison.

  75. M Ryutin

Steve, anyone watching Sky TV at lunchtime on the day of the supposed Gillard speech could see that the parliamentary attack was a script written before Gillard even knew of the Slipper motion from the opposition. Albanese went to town with every one of the Abbott anecdotes faithfully repeated in parliament by the chief actor. It seemed obvious to me then (and now) that the speech was originally written to counter the previous few days exposure of the Abbott women, but t also showed McTernan doubling down on his only political tactic – the anti-women, problem with women meme. Of more interest to me is the supposed independent political women prepared to go along with the male-created words – Plibersek, Roxon and the rest of them. The fact that the feminist cheer squad (Summers and co) lapped it up doesn’t surprise me. It is always ‘women versus misogyny’ to them.
That the tame media also lapped it up doesn’t surprise either. Proper political analysis isn’t exactly their strong point, especially when the Summers view is also their view.

  76. brc

It’s interesting to me that ‘misogynist’ has been introduced because ‘sexist’ just doesn’t have any cut-through any more. I remember a time when everyone was using ‘male chauvinist pig’ – that one died as well. Or maybe calling someone like Abbott a sexist is so blatantly wrong, a new word has to be co-opted to confuse the issue.

Word devaluation is a funny old thing. If you overuse a word you definitely wear it out.

On the general gist of the thread: TLDR, Gillard lies. Not exactly news to most of us. When she actually tells the truth about something, I think that will be worth a new thread.

“And yet, she is preferred as PM to Abbott by a wide margin.”

That’s true, I’m at a loss to explain it apart from the fact that mcternan/gillard’s misogyny speech maximised the female vote.

all in all … i can’t stand a bar of her!

  95. Jim Rose

Ernest Hemingway wrote with great insight about women despite being a lecherous drunk.

  96. Catallaxy could be simplified quite a bit.

Every day a new post could just pop up automatically with the title “Gillard Hate Thread No X” with the content “I woke up today and still really hated Julia Gillard. Discuss.”

People will then entertain themselves for another day telling each other how much they hate Julia Gillard.

  97. John Mc

So you are basically admitting you have nowhere else to go, Steve.

  98. Infidel tiger

In fairness Steve she is a contemptible piece of trash who has besmirched not just the office of PM but sullied us as a nation. In a fit and proper world she would be a truck stop hooker.

  99. Lazlo

Truck stop hookers don’t have such an air of undeserved superiority (I’m told).

  100. Monkey's Uncle

“And yet, she is preferred as PM to Abbott by a wide margin.”

The Preferred PM/Premier question usually favours the incumbent over the Opposition Leader (there have been plenty of elections where the Opposition has won despite the Opposition Leader trailing on that score). Besides though, whoever said that most people are particularly bright or well-informed about politics?

Besides though, whoever said that most people are particularly bright or well-informed about politics?

No one. But they all can vote.

  102. Tiny Dancer

Anyone over at your blog genius boy QC or is that a pointless question?

  103. Lloyd

    God I hate this Government.

  104. Lew

Much of The Slapper’s poll support as PM probably comes from Coalition voters who want to make sure she’s still leading her corrupt Government when the Election is held.

  105. Gillard’s vile and divisive misandrist’s speech was written by a girlyman!

…. Fitting, given the vast racketeering organized criminal enterprises she fronts and that prefer we call them by their “collectivist-ized” name, the Labor potty, making that sham potty also as phony as a Two-Bob watch!

…. And, so, singularly incompetent, on no issue has this excuse for “a government” succeeded. Nothing it promises ever gets done.

…. It cannot stop the boats. It cannot balance the budget. It cannot maintain economic growth. It can’t build the NBN nor improve – except, richly, for those “employed” in them, Australia’s “education” rackets. It cannot maintain national defense nor reduce “carbon emissions.” It uses “inflation” as an insidious tax increasing machination and willfully pushes up living costs.

And it can’t even devise additional taxes on the mining industry that actually raise any revenue ….

But can she and it steal root and loot and rort and launder — and self empower and enrichen!
