She wasn’t sacked as a senator, she was simply replaced as No. 1 on the ALP senate list for the NT.

Since the Territory only elects 2 senators and has always (so far) returned one senator of each flavour, her chances of re-election lower down the list are negligible. She’s not employed by the ALP, so how is it unfair dismissal?

… followed by an account of the self evident favouring of one race over the other!

The Slapper herself said she wanted to wheel a particular race into the “appointment”. She said that herself!

Am I the only one bothered by Gillard’s inherent racism…

I honestly don’t think racism figured into Gillard’s decision, here. At least, it wasn’t the primary reason. Trish Crossin wasn’t dumped because she’s white; Nova Peris was slapped on there to give Gillard some political mileage. Sure, it’s racist, but as a byproduct of a craven attempt to ingratiate herself with the Aboriginal community, which was the real objective.

Patronage is central to ensuring the loyalty and accountability of subordinates in Washington. The blue book lists 6,000+ positions within the president’s gift.

Under patronage, there was accountability. Loyalty and responsiveness to political mentors are essential attributes

Civic-minded reformers objected to the inefficiencies and corruption alleged to be inherent in a system of patronage. A merit based public service was supposed to be more accountable and the monitoring of shirking was easier because you could not fire people!!

papachango, Gillard didn’t break her own anti descrimination laws: they allow for discrimination that promotes equality for a minority. Afterall the law the real point of the law changes was to remove freedom of speech and legalise affirmative action.
