  2. Of course we aren’t. Julian Simon covered this years ago. The best quote I’ve read on this subject goes something like this:

“The Stone Age came to an end not for a lack of stones and the oil age will end, but not for a lack of oil. ” – Sheik Ahmed Zaki Yamani

  3. If as suspected, the universe is finite, and should it end in a big crunch then the resource we are running out of is time.

If it ends in a heat death, then the resource we are losing is order or un-entropy.

But we have more than all of us alive will need so “we” are ok, just later creatures.

  5. With energy, time, carbon and hydrogen, I can make you oil. So there will always be some available.

  6. But, but, Peak Oil*, I tells ya!

Blah. Unfortunately, we’ll never reach “Peak Stupid”, either, it seems…

Entropy always wins in the end, my friends.

  14. Time is the worrying one. It’s so intangible. :)

  15. A good clip, the issue of oil and gas is interesting. I was talking recently to a consultant geologist in Houston who was doing some work for Exxon in Argentina, he advused that the the Dead Cow shale deposit in Argentina had Quads of gas (thousands of trillions of cubic feet) that was recovarable from the field. However, as the Argentine government are a bunch of thieving lefty gangsters, Exxon was going nowhere near it. Another interesting deposit is the bagadov basin in Western Siberia, whichis estimated to hold at least two and a half trillion barrels of recoverable tight oil.

We will be using oil and gas for centuries to come….
