This must be a classic – Media Watch using anonymous sources to condemn anonymous sources.
But if that despair is leading to a push for Rudd to return, the gallery tells us so through anonymous sources. A former editor-in-chief of The Age wrote last week :
I’m not suggesting journalists are making stuff up, but we do have to take it on trust that they are not doing so.
— Business Spectator, 20th February, 2013Even if they’re not making it up, are they beating it up? I spoke to some senior gallery correspondents, off the record. They all agreed that the angst in Labor ranks is real, but that some stories are pretty thin.
Yes – that is what you think – anonymous sources are telling us that the media relies too heavily on anonymous sources.

The media’s use of more than weekly polls is nauseating. Of course it’s a huge beat-up, mainly to boost circulation, particular by the Murdoch Press.
I’m confident that most people would applaud legislation banning opinion polls between elections. It’s distracting for the PM to be constantly bombarded with this rubbish. The election’s over six months off yet. Let them concentrate on governing, which, when not being distracted by these media-driven inanities, they are doing pretty well.
Hammygar has nailed it. Nothing more needs to be said. Close the thread, Sinc.
Bad naughty polls! Why do they hate us?
That’s from an informed source, former Labor pollie, and definitely anything but anonymous.
Gary Johns in The Australian. Get a subscription, it’s worth it – you get access to plenty of good articles, although it’d be worth it just to annoy Hammy.
No, the announced election date is over six months off, hammburglar.
Don’t count your chickens before they cross the road…
Statistical surveys should be banned between elections.
Crikey’s Possum recently had a tweet which started “To those calling for polls to be banned…”
To boost circulation, particular by the Murdoch press?
Fairfax sponsor polls too, but their “circulation” just doesn’t seem to care any more.
We might take that as a comment hamster and move on…
LOL!
Epic fail.
Hammygar
Banning polls would lose a lot of jobs of people working collecting the stats etc, ordinary poeople who need the work, so we should consider that I think.
Sauces for courses. Anon sauces are as good as any other. Julia will probably have sauce with her pies out west.
How many staffers does Blankets have? How many of the contributed to this gold standard of journalism.
Quite so
I think the media relies too much on sources of all kinds.
They should just make it up. A good few do that already.
“…they are doing pretty well.”
Hammy will your intellectual disability make you eligible under NDIS? Is that why you are so pro Gillard?
Blankets must be one of the few people who could say that about Le Snore Taylor with a straight face.
Bewdyful! Love your work.
The only intellectually disabled people here are the ones that still haven’t worked out that Hammygar is a parody. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was professor bunyip himself.
Yobbo, visit the new O/T and have a read from the start. We have a clear candidate for whose sock puppet Hammy really is.
I point out that to MW, their sources are not anonymous. Just because they feel no need to identify the sources to you, dear taxpayer, so you can assess the veracity of the source is not relevant.
