Close down the Climate Commission … now

I have kept something of a watching brief on this disgraceful waste of taxpayer funds, including the very well paid gigs for the Climate Commissioners, including Tim “the dams will never fill again”  Flannery (oops).

Here’s what is available over at the website:

  • The last event was on 25 September 2012 in Brisbane;
  • There are no forthcoming events;
  • There is information about how the Moreland City Council (aka The Peoples’ Republic of Moreland) is taking its climate change responsibilities very seriously;
  • Ditto the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne (que?);
  • No doubt, these two efforts will make a huge impact on global temperatures.

The real highlight of the website is the short paper entitled: Climate Commission Summary Statement: The Earth continues to warm.

Check it out here.

Here’s the rub – it’s all about world ocean heat content.  The MET has been misrepresented.  If we adjust the data – hmmm – then the upward trend is apparent to all the suckers who look at the chart.

Note also the 4 whole references at the end of the paper, not all peer-reviewed.

I ask you.

Let us save the millions of dollars eaten up to run this unconvincing propaganda outfit.

Its elitist madness isn’t it? Unless your objective is to deindustrialise and return to feudalism.

  2. Dan

It’s just more bastards the take.

  3. Harold

They provide a URL as the source of their chart:

The one thing Big Government is absolutely guaranteed to deliver is Big Stupidty.

The bigger it gets, the more stupidity abounds and the more suffocating it is for everyone that does not benefit directly from it.

Thankfully this is still the majority of the population – just!

The Left love to call the big corporate honchoes “the robber barons”. How sick. They and the political cronies they appoint to hundreds of bureaucracies – so many that they would struggle to name them – are the modern day robber barons.

And they do it by pilfering the money from us; when they’re not borrowing it or printing it.

  5. Leigh Lowe

I suspect that it is possible that when they approached the Royal Children’s Hospital they were told “Fuck off. We’re too busy treating sick and dying children.”
    I sincerely hope so.
Some dweeb at the Climate Commission is no doubt a refugee from the Bracks/Brumby Gumment and is still shitty that the RCH allowed a Macca’s in the hospital building.

  6. From my son’s account of the Climate Commission’s “Climate Conversation” in Hobart a year ago:

I managed to approach Prof. Flannery after the forum had concluded. I asked, “What if you’re wrong about AGW?”
    Flannery responded, “What’s AGW?”
I said, “Anthropogenic global warming; you know, man-made.”
He replied, “Oh, yeah. If we’re wrong, at the very least, we’ll have cleaner air because carbon dioxide and burning coal is bad, and we’ll have better energy. If we’re right we’ll have all the other benefits.”
I asked when Brisbane would run out of water and Flannery stated, “Within the next couple of years.”
A conversation (coming from the Latin for “back and forth”), refers to an exchange of ideas, but the Climate Commission’s “conversation” consisted of our listening to lectures and lengthy, unnecessary answers and grandstanding questions from pious believers.

  7. Bruce of Newcastle

Heat content of the ocean has plateauxed like temperature. Converted to temperature the SST rise is stuff all (this being a scientific term).

Kevin Trenberth, when last seen, was still looking for the missing heat.

  8. Sean

I’m sure the art gallery of adelaide will be happy to report on progress and taking emissions seriously, working solar panels or not….!

I suppose they are referring to Eddie and Moses Obeid?

  10. duncanm

I saw that summary statement and was disgusted.

Talk about a self-serving cherry pick of information, with the express intent to attack Bolt et. al.

This briefing corrects the confusion and confirms that the Earth is continuing to warm at an alarming
    rate.

ie: “this briefing justifies why you should continue to give me a shedload of taxpayers’ cash.”

  11. Token

Let us save the millions of dollars eaten up to run this unconvincing propaganda outfit.

    Yes. Next topic.

  12. Harold

As shown in Table 1, the single best measure of whether the Earth is warming is the change in heat content of the ocean.

No, Figure 1 does not show that!

Figure 1 shows that most heat is stored in the ocean, it doesn’t necessarily follow that it is the best indicator of change in one arbitrary forcing over some arbitrary time period.

You can tell this was written by simpletons.

  13. duncanm

    Harold,

    its worse than that.

What, exactly, is Table 1 showing fractions of?

    * Earth’s Surface Area?
    * heat(energy) content?
    * mass x delta temperature ?

Then figure 1 shows an upward-sloped line – so what? How does that translate to delta-T? Units could be cubic furlongs per fortnight for all its worth.

    I personally love Figure 2.

Scientists look to see whether the underlying warming trend re-appears when the masking effects of natural factors are accounted for.

The adjusted temperature record is shown in Figure 2. The answer is obvious. When the masking effects of natural factors are removed, the underlying trend of rising air temperature comes through loud and clear right up to the present.

“When we fudge the graph, the answer is obvious!”

  14. Phillip

The money quote is this, in relation to the chart: : Global average temperature record adjusted for changes in incoming solar radiation, aerosols from large volcanoes, and the warming/cooling from ENSO events.
I.E there is no warming, but we are going to make up some adjustments to pretend there is warming.

  15. H B Bear

    A no brainer.

Sufficient close down funding should be provided to allow Flim Flam to be tarred and feathered in all mainland capital CBD malls.

  16. James of the Glens

    An excellent call, Prof. Sloan.

Has anyone organised a search party to find Flannery? Has he been cavorting with Gaia? After all, it’s not long ago he proclaimed the coming manifestation of Gaia and that humans would be organised along the lines of a caste system to do her bidding.

My guess is Timmy’s been quietly getting some inside running, probably arranging his membership of the reproductive caste while there are still holes to fill.

And can we immediately get rid of the wind “farm” scam front organisation, the Clean Energy Council, to complete the clean up of parasitic cronies?

  17. brc

This is the sort of thing that Hedley Thomas should be delving deep into – finding out what is planned, getting some leaked departmental budget documents, that sort of thign.

A nice front page on the Australian showing that the commission costs $x,000,000 per week and does nothing should wake a few people up from their stupor.

After all, this government is penny pinching hospitals and other governments services, while a bunch of canberra beauracrats fudge figures and drink coffee from $25,000 machines while achieving absolutely zero. Even as a government propaganda unit they have failed utterly, because the average Australian knows it’s a load of crap just by looking out the window.

  18. jupes

The Climate Commission is a scandalous waste of taxpayer’s money.

As Judith notes, it’s sole purpose is propaganda. It was established to answer the tricky questions about AGW that the government couldn’t. Not the the CC has covered itself in glory actually doing that.

Remember that Labor already had a Climate Change Minister and department with a $90 million annual budget when the CC was established. Why couldn’t they just publish their own propaganda? Well because they wanted people with supposed ‘credibility’ to do it and hey, the taxpayer’s wouldn’t care about paying a few extra million for the scam.

It shows just how out of touch with reality Labor is that they chose the least credible climate change clown on the planet as one of their commissioners.

    Immoral morons.

  19. dianeh

I was going to write something sensible, but then thought why should I when it is obvious that what we are dealing with is deliberately misleading bullshit.

Close the damn place down, NOW.

  20. Harold

My above Figure 1 should be Table 1.

I was questioning whether my interpretation was right or not because they do preface Table 1 with “Where the extra heat goes.” which specifically means where the additional is distributed.

But then they also talk about absolute heat content in Table 1′s description and then go onto show absolute heat change in Figure 1.

    Scientifically it’s a jumbled mess.

If they do where the extra heat is going as implied by Table 1 then they should plot that over time.

  21. brc

When the ocean heat content no longer is plausible for the missing heat, we’ll start getting excuses that the missing heat has gone into the mud at the bottom of the ocean, and then it will be the bedrock.

It’s really quite depressing watching how long the true believers will hang onto their religion when all the smart money has already packed up and left.

I fully expect to be confronted in 10 years by deranged activists still insisting climate aramageddon is upon us now, and the only solution is to burn our houses and live in tents.

  22. brc

@harold : stop tying your brain in knots. It’s propaganda. The scientific language is just there to convince the believers they really have something to believe in. They’re not even trying any more – probably just some junior intern making stuff up in Excel using bits and pieces copied from unskeptical science.

  23. Eyrie

And they measured this how, Steve? Or are we looking at a model output?

  24. Harold

Yeah I just realised brc, and as you hinted they’ve only just started plugging ocean heat because the atmosphere has stalled. If the ocean is the key why did they bombard us with atmospheric temperature before?

  25. Up The Workers!

So the “adjusted” record shows that we are all being warmed to death?

Hmmm… if I take this graph of the electoral popularity of the A.L.P. (which tracks a line starting at top left, and going to bottom right) and rotate it anti-clockwise by 90%, the ‘adjusted’ graph shows that the A.L.P. is now amazingly popular and will DEFINITELY win the next Federal Election (IF we are not all warmed to death beforehand!).

I guess this is what happens when a political party is so spectacularly dumb, that it gets all its’ “scientific, meteorological and economic advice” from the feral dingbats and vegan nutters of Tasmania’s Brown Movement.

    LABOR!

(They have no place for “U”!).

  26. mct

Ocean heat content down to 2000 m shows no “plateau.”

    No, no it doesn’t.

Of course, it has only been measured for a few years, and even those measurements are subject to a good deal of uncertainty.

But never mind, it is the last refuge remasining for the true believers and so useful idiots will seek shelter there.

  27. Judith Sloan

Harold … you are being way too dilligent.

They just made it up. I am not sure why the numbers were not adjusted for the fall in the number of deaths from malaria in Mali.

  28. dover_beach

I wouldn’t worry about the heat below 700m. That is heat that has more or less been sequestered from the atmosphere for the next thousand years.

  29. C.L.

Hey, look: French scientists have “filtered out” AGW-undermining ice core data.

  30. Didn’t the Dept of Climate Change & Energy (DCC&E) just get Senate approval for rent of a (union owned?)gold plated building, with gold plated coffee machines and fitout, for the next 15 years? I think it was for $195 million which excludes the cost of the high priced help that will inhabit the building.

Even if you shut down the DCC&E the useless, high priced help will just migrate to another useless possie. It seems near on impossible to actually get rid of these professorial bludgers.

  31. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

I think it was for $195 million which excludes the cost of the high priced help that will inhabit the building.

Get rid of the help (tag it as unemployed elsewhere in the public sector) and at least you’ve still got the building. Must be something useful that can be done with it. If it can’t be profitably re-let, then give it to the armed forces as a Centre for Border Security.

  32. brc

CURSE YOU MISSING HEAT WHY DON’T YOU JUST SHOW UP IN OUR THERMOMETERS LIKE DID FOR A GLORIOUS FEW YEARS!!

    *shakes fist*

  34. manalive

The adjusted temperature graph shows what would have happened if there were no changes in solar radiation, large volcanic eruptions and ENSO events — but didn’t.
They now assess their model predictions against a model world that does not exist.

  35. Leo G

The Climate Commission is effectively arguing that more than 89% of anthropogenic global warming occurs in the oceans and is responsible for a 0.04ºC average increase in average ocean temperature over the past half-century.
Even if the estimate of oceanic warming is correct (and the estimate of measurement certainty appears bogus) what is the physical process for such an enormous increase in the net transfer of atmospheric thermal energy to the oceans?
Moreover, if AGW is manifestly oceanic, and this limits atmospheric temperature increases, why are AGW air temperature increases predicted to be several degrees Celsius instead of several hundredths of a degree Celsius?
The Climate Commission paper is just as Judith Sloane claims- “unconvincing propaganda”.

  36. Bruce

Steve forgot to address the conversion from exajoules to degrees C. Willis’s conversion is consistent with Gleckler et al 2012 (with Ben Santer and our very own John Church as coauthors). Gleckler et al found dastardly humans responsible for 0.125 C sea surface warming in 50 years, which is almost enough to get up to Lindzen’s range for 2XCO2.

Its not hiding, just pining for the fjords.

  37. Harold

It’s all meaningless unless it’s phrased in terms of the Skeptical Science preferred Hiroshima Bomb Standard Unit.

  38. Look! Tim Flannery’s got a nice Wikipedia page, but I think the photo is maybe a bit out of date.

  39. Luke

I think an official Coalition policy should be to zero set ALL federal statutory bodies.

Every single one of them should be re-established (if at all) and have to justify their existence and every cent of funding.

Sure a lot will come back but leaner and shocked by the knowledge that their continued tax-payer funded existence is not a given but something that must be justified to the public. They must actually have public support for their purposes and be accountable for achieving them.

This would greatly target the three biggest cancers of the public service; 1. mission creep 2. empire building 3. duplication.

  40. brc

Leo G: the logic goes like this.

When you want to wash your dishes, you don’t put hot water into the sink.

What you do instead is pour normal cold water into the sink, then boil the kettle. But you don’t put the kettle water into the sink. You stand the kettle next to the sink and let the radiative transfer from the hot kettle work by first heating the temperature of the air, which then efficiently transfers into the water.

It also helps if you add blankets. Lots and lots of blankets.

Oh, and the standard thermal unit for this type of test is the BTU – or Boiled Tea Unpoured. Which I think is around 1×10-6 standard Hiroshima units.

that would be the only useful part of DCC. Let’s face it, if you were a catastrophist AGW believer by now you would have to acknowledge there never will be serious international action on mitigation, so we should prepare to cope with AGW as best we can.

The beauty of such a policy is it is still useful if AGW turns out to be an artifact of the assumptions built into the models, as it means the people will be able to better manage and be more resilient to [normal] climate variability like droughts and flooding rains.

  43. Judith Sloan at 1.45pm: “they” made what up?

  44. Dan

Natural fibre blankets brc, can’t be man made. Can’t be duck down either, as that is molestation of an animal, nor wool.

OH&S would say that the electric kettle (you can’t use a wood fired stove, that would be molestation of a forest) must be not more than 2 meters from the sink in case of electrocution. So you must expel air from your lungs toward the general direction of the sink.

Once tepid temperature has been reached go for your life.

  45. mct

I am not the first, nor will I be the last.

Steve from Brisbane… go away. You are not even vaguely amusing. Nor are you in any way challenging.

  46. brc

So you must expel air from your lungs toward the general direction of the sink.

I drink beer before blowing, and belch co2 as I exhale, will the water warm up quicker?

  47. Look, mct, you may think it’s a matter of no interest as to the basis on which an economist who has a prominent job at the Australian can blithely say “they just made it up”.

I’m not sure what it refers to: it seems to relate to something in the Climate Commission’s page she linked to.

    I think it’s worth knowing.

  48. Dan

Hmmmm, are you offsetting the co2?

  52. cohenite

    The CC begins by saying:

the physics are very well understood

    And then:

The vast majority of the extra heat does not go into the atmosphere and thus raise the air temperature but rather into the ocean.

But backradiation of IR at CO2 absorbing and emitting wavelengths, the deus ex machina of AGW, CANNOT penetrate the oceans.

For those more technically inclined the “basic physics” were presented to the US Senate by Dr Roy Clark in his EPA Submission ‘A Null Hypothesis For CO2′. In short, IR-C DLR from GHGs(+clouds) in the 4 – 16 micron range of the EM spectrum [the CO2 relevant spectrum] is an ineffective ocean heating agent or insulator because it only penetrates 10 microns and absorbency DECREASES 1000 times relative to IR-B in the solar range. See H&Q73:-

    http://omlc.ogi.edu/spectra/water/gif/hale73.gif

An insulation effect at the cool-skin layer (as promulgated by Peter Minnet, Real Climate and Rob Painting, Skeptical Science and obviously agreed with by the CC) would be ineffective because energy would still be lost radiatively and evaporatively even if conduction was inhibited (it isn’t).

If heat from the atmosphere is “transmitted” to the ocean the temperature gradient must be atm => ocean but global average atm temperature is about 3 C COOLER than the ocean and atm LAGS ocean. And that’s not accounting for the respective specific heat capacities

So even if the oceans are warming they are NOT warming due to AGW, even if AGW exists. So much for “the physics being well understood”.

Are the oceans warming? The CC says yes and shows this in Figure 1.

This is wrong and the CC’s information is superseded by ARGO data from the NOAA Pacific Marine environment Laboratory (PMEL).

Next up our lovable bludging parasites claim that temperature adjusted to remove natural factors is still increasing as shown in Figure 3. To prove this they link to Foster and Rahmstorf’s paper from 2011.

This paper is fucked; even amongst AGW science this paper represents a nadir. F&R attempt to isolate the AGW temperature signature by removing the natural factors; so they remove MEI [ENSO], volcanoes [AOD] and the sun [PMOD]. According to their 2nd equation as ferd berple observes:

    GISS = -91.43 + 1.024Trend + 0.0761MEI(4m lag) + 0.06694TSI.PMOD(1m lag)- 2.334AOD (7m lag)

    (1) GISS = 1.024Trend + bx + c

    (2) GISS = 1.0Trend + 0.024Trend + bx + c

    (3) GISS = (GISS + d) + 0.024Trend + bx + c

    (because y = mx + d, where m=slope=trend, d=y intercept)

    (4) 0 = 0.024Trend + bx + e

    (5) Trend = -(bx + e)/0.024

F&R have not solved for GISS. By including Trend(GISS) as an independent variable they have eliminated GISS. What they have shown is that the Trend in GISS can be fully explained as a linear result of MEI, TSI, and AOD, without any reference to CO2.

In other words, F&R have proven that Climate Change is fully explained by the Multivariate ENSO Index (MEI), the Total Solar Irradiance (PMOD), and the Volcanic Aerosol Optical Depth data (AOD).

In other words, F&R have proven that CO2 has no role in climate change.

Removing natural factors to establish a ‘pure’ figure is a tautology because it is based on assumptions about the existing temperature forcings by the IPCC which have been proven to be wrong.

Perhaps with this in mind the CC and Foster and Rahmstorf have been trumped by Pachuri who has made it plain that temperature has not changed in 17 years.

This is manifestly clear from a comparison between all the major indices which show no temperature rise ranging from 11 year and 7 months for GISS to 16 years and 1 month for RSS.

In short the CC report is a mixture of lies and incompetence which in my opinion is actionable in court since the CC is a government body.

  54. I’m not sure what [“They made it up”] refers to

“They” in general are the awarmists: self-serving, pseudo-scientific “experts” or fellow-travellers who perpetuate the world-wide hoax of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming; in particular, I’d suppose, “they” are the overpaid, unaccountable, lying lackeys of Government who infest the Climate Commission.
They “made up” alleged data, assertions, dodgy graphs, shonky statistics, supposed “record temperatures”, and silly links between anything which might go wrong in the world with “climate change”, which they mischievously invented in order to propagandise their foolish, quasi-religious, irrational notion that the world is doomed to warm catastrophically because of our emissions of the beneficent trace-gas, carbon dioxide, which is essential to life on earth.
    You’re welcome.

  55. cohenite, in your most recent outing, you recently were shown up on Online Opinion to have a complete and utter misunderstanding of the airborne fraction of CO2 emissions and refused to correct a key graph when your error was pointed out to you.

You are lawyer who is a loudmouth and given to making ridiculous claims, such as the end of your last post.

Your mates’ legal action in New Zealand came a cropper. Please, go ahead and sue here. Maybe you can call Professor Sloan as a witness?

You grasp at anything – even plant stomata has being a more reliable record of CO2 than air in ice – as long as you think it can be used to construct any argument (no matter how improbable or internally inconsistent) against mainstream climate science.

Your opinions on this topic are a joke, and obviously motivated purely by ideology and politics.

  56. Aliice

    You know what

I dont even care if the climate change figures say this or that. I couldnt give a damn. The reality is if it is an excuse for us all to pay higher taxes, then let the F****** government reduce my costs somewhere else eg insurance and bloody groceries and rates etc

F*** them (the do gooding government). I dont need an additional tax when the government is letting insurance companies and electriity companies and other private sector fuckwits (pardon my french) abrogate their taxes and gouge mne more.

Regulatory capture is screaming at us all.

They can stick the carbon tax right now.

Its getting hard enough to pay the bills due to all the supposed wanker degregaultion privatisation bullshit the government said would reduce prices…exceot it hasnt.

Oh dear – deregulation brings higher prices permanently does it?

Bring back the F****** GIO for a start and get rid of the insurance company leeches that are costing us all more.

I could pay higher taxes for that but I wont pay a bullshit higher carbon price because the reality is it is too late to stop any global warming and no matter what we do here – it wont stop it. There are too many people relying on dirty production worldwide.

They (do gooder governments like slappers need to do good for what we need NOW and HERE not comething we cant control like global warming).

Its too fucking late for that and if people die because of global warming – well its just going to happen.

Get over it. No-one camn stop it and they are total wankers if they think they can.

  57. Mk50 of Brisbane

look, everyone. Shitfer once saw a movie my the Goreacle about glowball warming so that’s enough for him. He’s a converty, a fanatical religious devotee of AGW.

So in Shitfer’s view, the science is settled, there’s a consensus so stop insisting that mere empirical measurement can possibly contradict anything wot Al Gore said.

    Because shutup.

Shitfer’s view is not called invincible ignorance for nothing. Ignorantia invincibilis the fallacy of insisting on the legitimacy of one’s position in the face of contradictory facts. Statements like “I really don’t care what the experts say; no one is going to convince me that I’m wrong”; “nothing you say is going to change my mind”; “yeah, okay, whatever!” are examples of this fallacy.

All of the examples are pure Shitfer.

  58. Aliice

I mean look at above comments…everyone is discussing CC02 levels and trying to make an argument out of it.
It really soesnt matter whether global warming is caused by man’s dirty production methods or not.

The reality is too many depend on these dirty priduction methods now for us to stp it.
The reality is man values life above all else during one’s lifetime.

The way it is. Tryng to stop global warming now??
Its way too late for that. We would have been better off trying to stop population growth 150 years ago but that didnt happen then and it wont happen now.

  59. Aliice

MK50 – IM damn sure most people dont care about globak warming or the statistics.
They do care about things they can control and global wqarming doesnt fall into that basket (of things they can control) and neither do most intelligent people think their governments can control it either because no government is addressing the fundamental problem of too many people…

Its all bullshit and the last thing I need after thirty years of crap dregulation policies that have not produced lower prices in essentials like electiricity or insurance (or groceries)

is a fucking carbon “global” do gooder tax.

  60. Aliice

    excuse spelling

But the whole idea of a carbon tax (especially when this idiot government cant even make a cent on the mining tax or reign in food price gouging or reign in insurance companies – Ive had a gutful!!)

its …its just a joke isnt it?

God please take them (the current government) away.

Then can we run a survey that the new government wont fall in to a crunpled pile of bootlickers to the donations of every big company in town when they get in?

” I, just like Bill Shorten, believe Gillard totally ( whatever it was she said).”

Funniest thing Ive heard all night…..

  63. cohenite

    shown up on Online Opinion

Bugsy had me interested when he noted the Quirk graph did not include land use change [LUC] CO2 emissions. After making further enquiries and research it is apparent that LUC is at worst, emission neutral and therefore the Quirk and Hill graphs were correct.

The AF is a joke because it is predicated on the assumption that prior to human emissions of CO2 natural emissions and sinks were in balance.

They are patently not now and were not then; this is something Bugsy, who is reasonably informed and probably a CSIRO/BOM employee, ignored completely as all trolls do, even if they are being otherwise useful.

With the AF a joke that means the issue of what is causing the increase in atmospheric CO2 is still up for grabs and given the lack of a balance between natural emissions and sinks must mean some of the increase is natural.

Your contributions to that debate which is here were peripheral sfb. But at least they were polite.

Now you come over here, you bitter little twerp and still say nothing of substance while being rude. How fucked is that.

  64. brc

because no government is addressing the fundamental problem of too many people…

There is no fundamental problem of too many people.

If you think there are too many people, you can help out. You first, and take your family. Don’t mind me, I’m not volunteering to help out with the problem.

200 years ago idiots were arguing ‘too many people’

    They were all proven wrong.

40 years idiots were arguing ‘too many people’

    The were also proven wrong.

There are too many people living under oppressive governments, yes. But there aren’t too many people. It is totally irrational to say that, given that you’re a person.

  65. Aliice

    cohenite

giove it up. You are arguing bullshit. Even if it is real neither ytou or I or anyone else can stop it so what is the point of arguing about stupis C02 levels.

ESPECIALLY when the best thing you can do to bring those C02 levels down is just to DIE and stop consuming to keep your life alive!

Simple. No ridiculous bullshit tax will fix this or even make it marginally minutely better. Its a load of bollocks – the carbon tax.

In fact its a waste of money and time.

  66. Aliice

bloody spelling. Im going to bed now.

  67. Aliice

brc – gove me the population of the world figures 200 years ago and then 40 years ago and then now idiot.

I have one kid. Thats it. Ive done my bit and there are too many people or are you a breeder?

  68. Aliice

BRC says on the matter lf mne saying “there are too many people”

” It is totally irrational to say that, given that you’re a person.

Does not compute Brc. I argue there are too many people. I am a p;erson. If I was rat in a cage and there were too many rats does that remove my right to demonstrate as rat, that there are too many rats in the cage?

  69. Steve of Ferny Hills

    Good night, Aliice.

    Love ya.

  70. brc

brc – gove me the population of the world figures 200 years ago and then 40 years ago and then now idiot.

Population figures are just numbers. What’s the magical number? 200 years ago they thought they had reached it. 40 years ago they thought they had reached it. Misanthropists like yourself keep insisting that the magic figure has been reached, yet most people are still being fed, housed and watered just fine. The only ones suffering are those with oppressive governments.

The population numbers are just numbers. If you think there are too many people you need to suggest what the magic number should be. You need to provide evidence of why there are too many people. Then you’ve got to suggest who has to die or be denied children to get there.

I’m simply suggesting that people have the right to live as they please, have children as they please and deal with life as best they can. I don’t want to cull population numbers as I see no evidence of anything so bad that millions should die.

  71. Aliice

    SFB

I thought you were the woner of an intersting pub and now here you are attacking cohenite??

    Oh oh

  72. Aliice

Brc go and look it up populations 200, 40 and current (world) and stop trying to tell me “population aint the problem because people have been crying about it for 200 years).

Global warming is the problem and people need the production that causes it, but Id rather see the people’s needs met that run bullshit taxes trying to fix something we cant with a tax that wont fic it

do you have a problem with that?

  73. Jump – you are too dumb to recognize when you are being led by a bullshit artist.

    Mk50 – is a bullshit artist.

  74. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

I think you should get as philosophical about prices as you are about a few other things, Alice, philosophical like saying things are just the way they are etc.. Deregulate properly and prices fall, but let’s not argue the toss on it. Just say fuyck it, and have a drink with me tonight ‘coz HIA is away. I am enjoying an Adelaide Hills Tempranillo, and it is not a bad drop, light, easy drinking. The half-bottle left from the other night is going, going down now. Some wine company is sending us a lot of Adelaide Hills lately.

Two more drinks left, I reckon, one for me and one for you. The Osblogistan world comes to an end in a short hour or so. We should drink to it. It is like the beginning of The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, where brave new worlds and Vogan poetry await discovery. Gather Tinta, and Gab, and Candy and the other ladies and we can salute Judith, Economista Suprema. Tell ‘em it’s byog though.

  75. Oh good. Let’s watch not one but two drunk women tonight!

  76. Mk50 of Brisbane

    Shitfer’s ‘rebuttal’:

you are being led by a bullshit artist

Invincible ignorance and ad hom: it’s the Shitfer way.

After all, he does not have a scientific leg to stand on.

  77. jumpnmcar

    Mk50 – is a bullshit artist.

Prove him wrong Spider and gain some credibility, at this moment you have none.
    Right now.
    Go!

  78. cohenite

Alice, there is great wisdom in some of your comments.

  79. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

You there, sir. Even if I am a little beveraged, I still have the felicity of knowing shall wake up totally sober. But you sir, are stupid now and have no certainty whatsoever that you will not be more so in the morning.

    h/t Winnie

Sleep on that one Stevie. I know you mean no harm. I am the soul of joyful compassion on this last day of Osblogistan, the world taken for granted.

    Yea, telelphone. It’s HIA!!

  80. jumpnmcar

Oh, and Spider, refute cohenits argument or shut up.
    You can’t can you?

  81. Yeah, you’re an intellectual giant, Mk50. You’ve read Plimers book and repeat endlessly the same crap about no one having ever answered your challenge about CO2 levels in the distant past.

  82. jumpncar, you don’t have any interest in the matter as a question of science. You would not have read the Online Opinion thread in question, where the scientist whose cohenite was citing (and who cohenite had contacted to ask one question – but not to ask his opinion on the argument cohenite was constructing) answered my email with (to paraphrase) “where the hell does he get that idea from”?

As I said, you’re too stupid to recognize bullshit when its laid out before you.

But be happy in your stupidity. It suits this blog.

  83. jumpnmcar

    MK50
    Spider said” Meeooww”.
    And again, NO rebuttal.
    Nothing, just nothing.
    Poor bastard…

  84. jumpnmcar

As I said, you’re too stupid to recognize bullshit when its laid out before you.

This from a Gillard voter, Hahahahahah
If you called me stupid at the local tavern I’d be laughing at you too, cause you’d be bleeding on the floor.
    Fucken coward.

  85. wreckage

SfB seems awfully bitter these days.

  86. 2dogs

It would be fun to see someone like Judith Curry or Steve McIntyre appointed as climate commissioner for a while.

  87. Gab

Ah quit yer yammering, SFB. You’re like an old crony nagging people to death.

  88. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

Stevie, I would not like to leave you bleeding on the floor as the hour of judgement approaches and the world is about to end. Shall I gently break the news to you? Julia is no good. Labor is no good. AGW is a scam. Your kids’ kids are in debt up to their eyeballs thanks to all that. You have backed the wrong horse.

Still time to get yourself up, dust yourself down, and start all over again.

Sleep tight, and may magic nuclar stardust irradiate your dreams.

  89. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

    nuclear. That stardust is atomic.

  90. 2dogs

If I remember correctly, the suggestion that much of the heat ends up in the oceans is supported by the Lindzen/Choi paper which showed a net negative feedback to climate forcings.

So, it will be interesting to see if the computer models will be modified to reflect this view as promulgated by the Climate Commission.

  91. Bruce of Newcastle

The ALP has moved into the ‘spike your own guns’ mode to stop them being captured by the enemy. In the Oz this morning:

In this climate, one department’s not safe

LABOR is considering dissolving the $218 million-a-year Climate Change Department as part of a cost-saving restructure that could see it merged with another government bureaucracy.

Irony upon irony. This is so much fun to watch.

  92. Harold

    Thought it worth mentioning…

Now they tell us to look at the ocean instead of the surface.

So why the hell were all the models based around surface predictions?

Even now Michael Mann is trying to hide another decline (in the surface record), why doesn’t he just say the warming is in the ocean?

    Mike’s AGU Trick
