A week to go to the election, and even the betting agencies are declaring it for the Coalition. While there is a high probability of a Coalition victory, it is not 100 per cent. Any number of events could occur in the next week to change the course of the election. As Donald Rumsfeld said:
There are known knowns; there are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns; that is to say, there are things that we now know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns – there are things we do not know we don’t know.
While I don’t expect a repeat of the 1993 election, this video from 9 March 1993 (4 days before the election and including a young Wayne Swan), shows the importance of due humility and the need to avoid hubris.
Ceterum autem censeo Calvin Scardinius esse delendam.
Ceterum autem censeo Kevinum Scardinium delendum esse (thanks Deadman)
