The count isn’t done yet – but the ALP and Greens might be in a spot of bother. They want to keep the carbon tax and the government wants to repeal it. At the same time they’re a bit annoyed by the vote harvesting that may well have elected six new Senators.
This raises the issue of reforming the Senate voting system to make it harder for micro-parties to get in and so protecting the ALP and Greens base compared to Abbott going for a double dissolution so diluting the left with (even) more micro-parties who have populist right tendencies.
I think the general view is that if the “micro six” are elected the carbon tax will be repealed after July next year.
Hopefully the Motorists will be bribed with the right to go four-wheel driving in National Heritage listed parks.
