Q&A Tonight / Q&A Forum

Tonight provides further evidence of bias at the ABC. David Suzuki appears on Q&A without any other panelists. Normally Q&A consists of a panel of six people with Tony Jones. Occasionally there will be just two (and Tony Jones) – such as when Chris Bowen and Joe Hockey appeared on 19 August 2013.

Very rarely there will be just one panelist, like tonight’s show with David Suzuki. The previous examples are:

  • Prime Minister Kevin Rudd (2 September 2013 and 8 February 2010)
  • Prime Minister Julia Gillard (6 May 2013, 11 June 2012, 11 July 2011, 14 March 2011, 9 August 2010)
  • Former Prime Minister John Howard (25 October 2010)
  • Leader of the Opposition Tony Abbott (16 August 2010)
  • Leader of the Opposition Malcolm Turnbull (13 October 2008)
  • Retiring Leader of the Greens Senator Bob Brown (23 April 2012)

With the exception of Bob Brown (who was at least leader of a minor party in the Parliament of Australia), all the others have been Prime Ministers or Opposition Leaders.

Now comes David Suzuki with no particular claim to fame except on the Q&A website as a

Renowned Environmental Scientist and Campaigner.

How much did the ABC pay David Suzuki to appear? Have they provided young ladies to accompany him as is his wont?

It is time to privatise the ABC.

Update: This thread can double up as the weekly Q&A thread.

QandA already? It’s a little bit early to start drinking isn’t it? However, if you insist, who am I to argue – I’ll start with a beer.

  2. egg_

David Suzuki appears on Q&A without any other panelists.

The Science is settled – Al Gore.

  3. Mrs Beardsley

Mrs Beardsley will be asking to privatise most of the ABC.

  4. Rabz

Yep – the appearance of this creepy, hypocritical, bombastic blowhard is yet another low for the ALPBC.

This piece via Quadrant is quite instructive as well (and yes, Tom, I’d already seen it this morning).

  5. Bruce

How much did the ABC pay David Suzuki to appear?

On past evidence the answer is ‘a lot’.

Levant shows an invoice for a one-hour talk at a college that Suzuki billed for $30,000 plus expenses (total $41k)

This ‘woe, ye will suffer!’ business seems to pay quite well.

  6. Badjack

Can you expand on the young ladies as an accompaniment thingo please Samuel J

  7. Tom

They keep flaunting their bias because they imagine they are untouchable. It’s now insufferable: the ABC is a political organisation with a political agenda of unswerving devotion to the Green Left and visceral hatred of everything but the Green Left. The instant switching of sides from the government to the opposition on September 7 was breathtaking. I’m happy for the ABC’s supporters to have their fortress of leftist political orthodoxy, but they can’t force the public to pay for it. I’m glad the ABC has decided to pig out on this howler monkey corroboree of mental derangement tonight. There is no-one in the country now with half a brain who can’t see what’s going on.

  8. Makka

“Levant shows an invoice for a one-hour talk at a college that Suzuki billed for $30,000 plus expenses (total $41k)”

    I’m going to throw up.

  9. Badjack

While Turnbull is M for Com’s the ABC will never be privatised. It is Dear Malcolm’s vehicle to destabilize Abbott.

  10. calli

I’m glad the ABC has decided to pig out on this howler monkey corroboree of mental derangement tonight.

You have a way with woids Tom…that’s going in the pool room.

  11. stackja

ABC will die as the MSM dies. Today a mature aged lady told me she is no longer interested in Fairfax Digital. The end is nigh.

  12. Samuel J

Captain Queeg – you’re right about Bill Gates. But I think it doesn’t weaken the argument too much. He is a much more substantial figure than Suzuki.

Badjack – see the link in the OP. Suzuki apparently likes to have his contract include nubile ladies to act as body guards (a bit like Gaddafi did).

  13. mct

Utterly disgusting and I can only read it as a giant ‘up yours’ to the new government.

What do they think they are playing at? Do they really think – even with Ol’ Mal in charge of Comms – that they can just dummy-spit like this without recourse?

It’s almost as if they want to bring the hammer down. Madness.

  14. Samuel J

    Renowned Environmental Scientist and Campaigner

    Renowned dirty little old man.

  15. Splatacrobat

They could have at least balanced the panel table with Tim Flannery. A nut either side of that prick snowcone.

  16. Gab

Suzuki thinks he needs body guards? ahahahahahaha. Is he afraid a polar bear will attack him? Or is he just paranoid in general?

  17. Fleeced

It is time to privatise liquidate the ABC.

    FIFY

  18. Armadillo

They keep flaunting their bias because they imagine they are untouchable

It is very strange indeed. It’s like the ABC are purposely daring the Government to take them on.

  19. Docket62

I canna do it tonight captain. I just doont have the power…..

Someone should make a motorcycle of that halfwit.

  20. Fleeced

Suzuki thinks he needs body guards? ahahahahahaha.

Specifically, his team requested young, attractive, female bodyguards… to protect him from loneliness, I guess.

  21. JC

No gab, the suzmeister wants female body guards preferably cute ones. He also requires them to escort him to his hotel room.

  22. JMH

Well, keep sending emails to M. Turnbull, Esq. and Joe Hockey Esq. Keep the pressure applied. They cannot ignore us.

I don’t watch trash TV so I will not be watching the ABC.

This Suzuki thing tonight can only top the Chaser’s Hamster Decides Chris Kenny Dog F***er for cretinism by less than a half-breath.

  23. Steve of Glasshouse

I’ll take interruption lotto number tonight..zero

  24. Fleeced

I’ll take interruption lotto number tonight..zero

Chance that a Cat member’s snarky tweet about his “female bodyguards” will be posted on the screen? Also zero 🙂

  25. james

    Badjack:

While Turnbull is M for Com’s the ABC will never be privatised. It is Dear Malcolm’s vehicle to destabilize Abbott.

    Bingo.

I remember when MT was opp leader he seemed more interested in impressing the ABC than in actually opposing anything.

When the ABC did an in depth colour piece on him that accidentally showed the exact moment the Ozcar SNAFU blew up in his face the pleading look from Malcolm to the camera was pitiful.

“But I’m on YOUR side” his desperate eyes seemed to scream.

    Stackja:

ABC will die as the MSM dies.

    No it won’t.

The ABC will cannibalise the remnant of the Fairfax papers and then greedily campaign for more.

When the Age and perhaps the SMH finally fold the lefties will double down on the ABC, circling the wagons.

Any critique will be seen as an attempt to silence any dissent to the supposedly right wing “Murdoch empire”.

james, that’s the worst case scenario and iI hope you are wrong but, unfortunately, I suspect you are probably right.

What would be nice is an introduction of a user pays subscription to assist ABC to keep afloat. Let’s how they like dem apples! What we do need is an adult government to go through the behemoth with a fine-toothed comb. I want to see some blood!

  27. Honesty

I keep saying this but you are wasting your time trying to Privatise the ABC this term. You will get somewhere on the argument of cutting back waste. QandA is a waste produced in house it should be an outside production company to save money. Of course they will need to uphold the code of practice, particularly no bias. Joe and Robb can deliver that as part of their election mandate.

  28. Armadillo

silence any dissent to the supposedly right wing “Murdoch empire”.

Murdoch is right wing? From where I’m sitting, he appears to be a full on leftie lover. He needs to go full throttle and destroy the left completely so they never get elected to office again. Just because Captain Action won the election doesn’t mean he should stop those newspaper front pages humiliating the Liars Party. Get to it Rupert – you may not have the longetivity of your mother. Times a wasting.

  29. Honesty

Or you could appoint Wayne Swan to run the ABC, it will be finished in a year.

  30. duncanm

For the ‘Q’ part, someone could start by asking how his predictions are panning out.

  31. james

What would be nice is an introduction of a user pays subscription to assist ABC to keep afloat. Let’s how they like dem apples! What we do need is an adult government to go through the behemoth with a fine-toothed comb. I want to see some blood!

Nice dream, but socialists tend to hold on.

Talk to the average middle class leftie about the ABC, they view the bloated edifice with something approaching religious awe.

  32. james

Or you could appoint Wayne Swan to run the ABC, it will be finished in a year.

Nah, within a year it would have tripled it’s budget without anyone noticing, let alone Wayne.

  33. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

This sort of thing has to be called by the government – and NOW! It is blatant propaganda on taxpayer funding. No right of reply, nothing. With a stacked audience too, their way. Malcolm T. Are you listening to one of your electors here??? Suziki is not entitled to a singular position on this program. This is a deliberate insult.

I may pop in to jeer and correct (or not) but I just couldn’t bear to sit through all of this luvviefest.

  34. manalive

What the hell can he tell us that we haven’t been told already over and over again?
Does the ABC think that Suzuki lends any more authority to the bullshit?
How can they justify all those Earth-destroying CO2 molecules he’s pumped into the air getting here?
It’s just a leftie/luvvie love-in and morale booster at taxpayers’ expense.

  35. JC

I think you’re right. The one thing I would add is Their ABC seems to be attacking the government like their lives depended on it. The strategy is to make it appear they are the only ones holding the government to account and if the government makes any attempt to reform it they will can turn around and cry political interference etc.

It’s a good strategy on their ABC’s part or at least its the best one they have. However there’s one thing they can’t change if the government is courageous enough. Dare the punters to throw them out and replace them with the destructive Liars Party. I’m not sure the punters would take that risk.

  36. Wasn’t it this same Tony Jones who did the extended and no-holds-barred hit piece on “The Great Global Warming Swindle” some years ago. That show included not only a panel weighted with creeps like Karoly, but also tried to take down Bob Carter – who, incidentally, figures as a hero in the demise of the global anti-western civilisation fight to the finish – otherwise known as climate change.

I’d say the director of TGGWS was right, and Tony Jones totally wrong in his (also sometimes paid, I hear) boosting of the AGW case.

  37. Helen

For interruption lotto I am going 5 – becasue snowocne will interrupt motorcar man to get him to repeat some particularly scary pronouncement at least 5 times.

  38. james

This sort of thing has to be called by the government – and NOW!

    Good luck with that.

Malcolm T. Are you listening to one of your electors here???

Yup, upper class electors in Wentworth who are one step away from Greens.

  39. Megan

I may pop in to jeer and correct (or not) but I just couldn’t bear to sit through all of this luvviefest.

I’ve enjoyed being part of the Q&A Cat Kamikaze team over the last few weeks, and you may call me out on my lack of ticker, but I just can not, will not, waste a single second on this sleazy, catastrophising, disgusting, little rent-seeker. Like Lizzie, I may pop in to see how much support and encouragement, if not CPR, is required by the bravehearts on duty to endure this dire offering to the end. But, I fear, even that might be beyond me.

  40. Bons

because they imagine they are untouchable.
That was my view until recently – now I believe that we are witnessing a full blown Masada event. Not uncommon among extremists who populate intellectual bunkers.
A relevance question. How many Australians would have heard of Marr if the ABC did not exist.

  41. Pickles

Yo! Keep your hands off heez bitchez!!

  42. egg_

I think you’re right. The one thing I would add is Their ABC seems to be attacking the government like their lives depended on it. Crush it anyway, Ruski style.
Once the dust settles there’ll always be the the handwringers, but once it’s done, it’s done.
    Current Greenpeace tards case-in-point.

  43. Carpe Jugulum (don't call me sven) HenchCritter

I think tonight as a one off we have Denier Lotto how many times will these tiresome boors use the term Denier as they droolingly fellate each other.

  44. james

How many Australians would have heard of Marr if the ABC did not exist.

    twelve

  45. candy

Never watch the show but I bet this turns into a hate Tony Abbott who will destroy the planet type event. The ABC are out to damage Mr Abbott and his government, I fear.

  46. Carpe Jugulum (don't call me sven) HenchCritter

How many Australians would have heard of Marr if the ABC did not exist.

If not for the ALPBC he would be a rent boy on the London docks.

  47. Alfonso

Turnbull not Scotty is the ultimate ‘buck stops here’ enforcer of the Their ABC Charter.
If Turnbull allows it to continue as the taxpayer funded media arm of the left (which I expect will happen with the addition of a thumbsucking ombudsman), what does that say about Mal and his politics?

  48. james

The ABC are out to damage Mr Abbott and his government, I fear.

They consider it a fair reprisal for the DT and others backing Abbot at the election.

No power on earth will enlighten a leftie as to the difference between public and private media organisations. They simply cannot comprehend it.

  49. Tinta

The one thing I would add is Their ABC seems to be attacking the government like their lives depended on it. The strategy is to make it appear they are the only ones holding the government to account and if the government makes any attempt to reform it they will can turn around and cry political interference etc.

That’d be a strategy if anyone that counts were watching, but it’s all the rustedon masterdons and the greenfilth who don’t count according to the people on 14 September.

  50. Helen

Ok Denier lotto (sans fellatio) I am going for 19.

  51. cynical1

    Another Malthusian with 5 kids.

And I’ll bet the tosser didn’t arrive here via hemp canoe

  52. Tinta

I wonder if The Suz has asked for a good looker to powder his nose and his bonce?

  53. Megan

I’ll enter Denier Lotto with my favourite number: 29.

    Thanks Carpe!

  54. Mick Gold Coast QLD

    from Helen at 6:16 pm:

“For interruption lotto I am going 5 – becasue snowocne will interrupt motorcar man to get him to repeat some particularly scary pronouncement at least 5 times.”

They’d be “thunderous applause prompters” wouldn’t they Helen?

Put me in for just two “May I pour you a refreshing glass of water Professor Doctor and have a hand maiden place it before you, offering a good view of her low cut large bits to inspire you as she does? May I?”

  55. calli

    I’m a denier! I’ll go for 22, thanks duckie…erm…Carpe.

Having thought further on it I shall add a warning.

As clever and mentally attuned as any one of you may rightfully claim to be I say no-one – not a one of you – can endure an hour of Professor Doctor 100cc Motorscooter spruiking his palpable bullship at Snow Cone Tone without long term psychological damage. This is a given.

  59. Huck

22 in the “denier” sweepstakes please Carpe.
I will be relying on souls far hardier than I to sit through the unquestioning propaganda tonight, and for those brave souls to dutifully report the goings on to those of us either too cowardly or too short fused to watch the vomitous cesspit (also, the Brownlow is on and I reckon that the viewing will be a whole lot more appetising)
I thank you all for your sacrifice.

  60. Mick Gold Coast QLD

Denier lotto? One for every year of Mick – 63 if you please Carpe Jugulum.

  61. Helen

I am not watching it, if no one is, how will we know the lotto results?

  62. Huck

Bugger it, just saw that Calli has stolen 22 from my grasp. 17, 19, 20 will have to do.

  63. Helen

A young fella, Mick, Captain is 64.

  64. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

    Renowned Environmental Scientist and Campaigner.

Decision has been made in this household. Da Hairy Ape is firm dat we are not watchin’ dat eedjit.

He is, says HIA, by no means a ‘climate scientist’. He is a Phd in Zoology.
He is, in other words, a Flannery. He has no specific climatic expertise that allows him to speak authoritatively on ‘climate’ science.

Perhaps someone should tell the ABC, says HIA wryly.
Just say he’s a zoologist, dat’s what he is. He makes Flannery seem conservative in his predictions.

So – we won’t be watching and I won’t be blogging it. Will read the reports of the brave here though.

  65. Armadillo

The motor bike man sounds like a total pratt. I’m going in big – serve me up a 45 Carpe.

  66. sunshine

If the ABC has a left bias IMO that would be good to balance most of the rest of the media . Wanting to eliminate opposing views altogether seems to me to reducing competition in that marketplace ,that would be to invite sub-optimal outcomes . As libertarians we should welcome competition in all markets . At least the ABC gives a place to views from all sides .

  75. .

David Suzuki is in the pocket of Big Salmon.

He has sold his arse for…another energy hungry mansion etc.

    He’s a lying, hypocritical cnut.

He is lobbying to fuck over his Canuck countrymen who are SMEs farming salmon at the behest of Alaskan fleet fishers.

Some of the scurrilous elements of the ALP and Australian union movement are more trustworthy than Suzuki.

In his own words…”He’s a leval 10 mega, he’s a really big wheel”

Because he is a dishonest sack of shit, that’s why.

  76. Gab

    As libertarians

Oh please, stop lying. You’re as much a libertarian as Karl Marx.

  77. JC

But but, Moonshine is a libertarian. She told us.

    moonshine

I’d wring your neck given the chance for fraudulently referring to yourself as a libertarian.

  82. Jeffrey

Glowball warming be damned. There’s definitely a nip in the air tonight.

  83. Huck

fuck off sunshine. It is not the job of a taxpayer funded outlet to be providing opinion on anything.
In case I haven’t been clear, fuck off.

  84. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

Yup, upper class electors in Wentworth who are one step away from Greens.

Not as many as there once were, and Malcolm would be wise to recognise that.
As many are certainly telling him. Ignore your base, your real base, at your peril, Mal.

  85. That’d be a strategy if anyone that counts were watching, but it’s all the rustedon masterdons and the greenfilth who don’t count according to the people on 14 September.

Sorry, Tinta, but no. That’s a view that gets trotted out here fairly regularly, but the reach of the ABC is quite vast, and it’s consumed by a lot of otherwise smart (or at leats normal) people who simply have an aversion to commercial media – and I understand that completely.

  86. Mick Gold Coast QLD

    From Rabz at 7:01 pm

    “Hello?”

Is it me you’re looking for … squire?

  87. Tinta

Sorry, Tinta, but no. That’s a view that gets trotted out here fairly regularly, but the reach of the ABC is quite vast, and it’s consumed by a lot of otherwise smart (or at leats normal) people who simply have an aversion to commercial media – and I understand that completely.

Mr Homent I defer, I made the mistake of being totally subjective, haven’t watched the ABC in years

  88. Tracey

Lucky 13 in Denial Lotto for me please Carpe. I don’t know if I’ll have the stomach to watch it though.

  89. AS for “balancing out the rest of the media” – that pretty much confirms that Sunshine is an ABC employee, or has partaken of their cordials.
Commercial TV is a conservative -free zone except for Bolt. Fairfax media encompasses press and radio, has precious few centre-right contributors, and hardly needs balancing by the ABC. SBS? Ditto.
FM radio? mostly youth oriented and anything but conservative.
Murdoch press? Check the Australian’s lineup and you’ll find it’s a mix, and has been for years. So that leaves a few tabloids and a few oldies AM radio stations that have to be “balanced” by the ABC and it alone. Really?
Arrant nonsense from Sunshine. No surprise there.

  90. Mrs Beardsley

Denier Lotto 25 pls. Mrs Beardsley will watch sick making Suzuki! 🙁

  91. sunshine

Libertarians value competition in markets – some (a lot) of you dont .You seem to want competition eliminated in this case (in the market for political ideas ). I dont (truly I dont) -that makes me more libertarian than you who are in this case more like fascists.

  92. Helen

Oh goody, we have a counter, Mrs Beardsley.

  93. Makka

    Denier Lotto 20 thanks Carpe.

  94. Carpe Jugulum (don't call me sven) HenchCritter

  95. JC

Moonshine, you degenerate, yes Libertarians value competition, but not from the state in the media business.

You’ve got no fucking idea what the term means, you moron.

And stop hijacking the thread, you fucking idiot.

You’re too fucking stupid to be here. Buzz of and don’t come back.

    Lets review:

If the ABC has a left bias IMO that would be good to balance most of the rest of the media .

EVERY left winger believes that because commercial media takes the filthy lucre of the evil capitalists in the form of advertisements that makes them right wing.

If you consider “Right wing” to mean “Not wanting a socialist state” then you are 100% correct.

If on the other hand you consider the voting intentions of the average middle class humanities educated journalist and the influence this class and educational background has on the reporting of affairs and see this as perhaps being representative of a media culture that is ever so left of centre then you may have watched The Project recently.

Wanting to eliminate opposing views altogether seems to me to reducing competition in that marketplace

The marketplace, by definition, does not include state subsidised propaganda outlets. They do not participate in the market since they are subject to no market pressure greater than the amount of funding they can extort from the state.

that would be to invite sub-optimal outcomes

    Indeed.

As libertarians we should welcome competition in all markets

Indeed. However the ALPBC is not competing in any market, it is a wholly subsidised entity.

At least the ABC gives a place to views from all sides

Indeed, the centre left, the far left and the insane neo-marxist ultra left.

What other opinions could we possibly need?

First things first. I love Gab’s and Elizabeth (Lizzy) avatars. I don’t know how to do them. And am trying to think who I want to be, my alter ego. Thought I was Grace Kelly when I was a kid!! Anyway back on subject am not going to watch that mad man. As I only have free to air will watch the Big Bang Theory, watched it last night because nothing better to do (how sad!). Loved it. Well just now and then. Enjoy for those that do watch, and Lizzie, Gab, if you do, keep watch on the stats. Bet its Labor 35%, Libs 45% ors 10%. Or will that be Deniers v Believers. Will check back here after Lateline. Cheers, must go and get a nice soothing wine.

If the media market has no place for one side of the debate then that is market failure . If the state must step in to correct that – then so be it , functional markets are too important. If the state wont step in but the state funded ABC provides some balance then so be it . To say so is not ‘hijacking the thread ‘ -the thread was about eliminating opposing views (‘bias’).

  122. Carpe Jugulum (don't call me sven) HenchCritter

If the state must step in to correct that

The state must step in to correct what you percieve as a bias? I think not if you think there is a ‘bias’ in the privately funded media then start you own outlet and compete on the open market. How dare you have the temerity to even think that stealing money from taxpayers to satisfy your perceptions is reasonable.

some of you are pure conservative not libertarian

So what, some people over at Lavatory Rodeo are centre left & some are shrieking marxists what is your point.

If the media market has no place for one side of the debate then that is market failure .

Other than sky, the rest of the media is leftwing, not including their ABC, you fucking dick. So if there is da market failure which there isn’t, it would be a failing of the market to cater to the right.

If the state must step in to correct that – then so be it , functional markets are too important.

    Correct what, dickhead?

If the state wont step in but the state funded ABC provides some balance then so be it . To say so is not ‘hijacking the thread ‘ -the thread was about eliminating opposing views (‘bias’).

In libertaria there is no need to use the word balance, because left wing or right wing opinion isn’t a problem in a contestable market. If the private MSM wants to be to the left of the Guardian , then more power to them. I don’t give a shit and neither would most libertarians. However I would fail to see that in contestable market there wouldn’t be a 50/50 split because ultimately the players are looking for advertising dollars and therefore eyeballs.

I am genuine about this – some of you are pure conservative not libertarian .

Any conservative is better than you, you leftwing nutcase.

Conservatives may want to destroy a market to further their cause but not Libertarians . In this way I am more Libertarian than you .

I want to see their ABC destroyed. It would amuse me to see Fairfax taken to the morgue, but I know another one, a son of Fairfax would rise up to take over that side of the market.

You provide no definitions to the terms you use, such as balance and market failure.

You have a contorted view of what the term , Libertarian, means and now you’re trying to justify you stupidity by layering even more.

As I said, fuck off. You fucking leftwing fraud.

  127. Warming up by watching 7:30. Leftie metrosexual explains that Westgate attack is good marketing & recruitment exercise for Al-Shabaab.

Let me share my David Suzuki experience.

It was 1995 and I had just published a co-authored book on environmental politics and policy-making in Australia. I was invited to speak at the inaugural conference of the Australian Society for Ecological Economics in Coff’s Harbour – organised by some folk at UNE. The star turn was Suzuki.

I had a beer one afternoon with the organisers. We had a friend in common, the late Jim HIte – and ag economist at Clemson, and a colleague of Bruce Yandle’s (of bootlegger and Baptist fame). The guys were a bit stunned, because Suzuki’s management had demanded that they charter a private plane to get The Guru to Brisbane, so that he could connect through to FNQ (Cairns, I think), where he had a gig that night. (Bad weather had thrown commercial schedules into chaos). His management drew attention to that clause in the contract they had with him that made them liable for the $10K fee for that evening’s gig — as well as the $10K they were paying for his Coff’s Harbour sermon. And the term ‘sermon’ is entirely appropriate — once expected to see Tammy Faye Baker walk on stage.

I had never been a fan. He’s a geneticist, who (like Flannery) declaims well beyond his expertise — on any apocalyptic topic. But I have been active in speaking of this experience since. I doubt, in other words, that he is appearing gratis!

Indeed. However the ALPBC is not competing in any market, it is a wholly subsidised entity

The ABC has outbid all the commercial media companies. In the 70s ABC journalists would decamp to the commercial stations at the first opportunity chasing better pay. These days they pay themselves so much that the traffic in staff is in the other direction, particularly those from Fairfax publications who are given preference over others.

The only way to level the playing field is to privatise the ABC and let them earn their money like everyone else by selling something the customers want to buy.

  141. Aliice

    Lizzie says

Da Hairy Ape is firm dat we are not watchin’ dat eedjit.

    Dont you mean a Flummery?

I have downloaded the ABC code of conduct pdf and i am going to record each interaction as either supportive ( left) neutral or critical (right) and weight them by time. Then Tally them up and send in a complaint if warranted. My estimate is 30% critical 10 % neutral and 60% supportive. If I have the time I will also add a dimension of strength. For example, a weak easy question to defend versus a well researched highly testing question on a scale of -3 to +3. At least it will keep my occupied.

  197. Tom

Paul Barry is an embarrassment. Get Newscorp. Again. Scepticism will not be entertained. Oh, the failed 97% “consensus” again. This is the payoff for Barry last week criticising the ABC. Ammunition for a renewed attack on Newscorp. Barry has zero credibility and he thinks he can win the propaganda war he is waging relentlessly. Now he’s quoting Twitter and Facebook to attack the Daily Tele. FMD. Polemics is not journalism, you deadshit. You’re losing.

  198. Carpe Jugulum (don't call me sven) HenchCritter

  211. jupes

    Brownlow update:

    Round 13: Ablett 20, Hannebury 18, Dangerfield 16, Swan 13.

Suzuki is not a Climatologist….You could not write a better fiction story than this.

  213. Mike of Marion

If he is not a climate expert, why is he being treated as an expert????

  214. Tom

Deniers are being supported by the fossil fuel industry. Don’t you love how they keep pulling this stuff from their arses?

  215. Mike of Marion

Tim gets a mention real early

  218. Carpe Jugulum (don't call me sven) HenchCritter

  220. Makka

Team, watching from the West here… pick it up a lil please 😉

  221. Still Waters

Doctors around the country are puzzled by an outbreak of seizures that paralysed people across the country. The epidemic spread from the east coast to the west on Monday evening, leaving hundreds struck down. Information is still sketchy but reports have victims watching TV before writhing in a frenzy then collapsing mumbling something about “cats” or “cattle”. Doctors have administered sedatives and tranquillisers and expect most patients to recover but some were unable to cope with the trauma.

In other news, security around ex-VP Gore has been tightened after the NSA received a message from a previously unknown terrorist group, the Alphabet Protective Collective, saying “Suzuki attack effective. Gore next for Q&A”. The Government refused to comment on the meaning of “Q&A” but sources suggested it meant aQuire and attack.

  222. Tom

97% gets trotted out again. They never tire of the lie.

  228. Carpe Jugulum (don't call me sven) HenchCritter

snowcone goes the full blowie on some flack ‘author’ from the ipcc, but he can’t recall what is in the report.

Audience member is a scientist that is also a reviewer and has seen the report ‘author’ just got slapped.

Baka yoro goes for the conspiracy theory over the climategate emails.

  229. Menai Pete

To misquote Barry on Media Watch in his attack on the Sydney Telegraph:
The ABC loves a good campaign especially when it appeals to the prejudices of its audience

  230. Motelier

I have to wonder if Suzuki got lucky tonight. It might explain the waffllying talk.

    Waffllying. is a new word

  231. Tom

Mr Kawasaki thinks scepticism is “creating confusion”. Not a scientist’s arsehole.

  232. Mike of Marion

Suzuki is a fraud of the grand order – he doesn’t like being challenged

  233. Mick Gold Coast QLD

    After Round 14:
