I have a piece on Quadrant on-line which sets out to identify the global warming action promoting resources within the Commonwealth (about 6000) and in ALP government-funded ”independent” advisory bodies.
The bluster accompanying the fifth IPCC findings that temperatures have not risen for over 15 years and all other dire forebodings of the previous IPCC reports have failed to materialise will bring a reduced appetite for cost-enhancing climate measures across the world. This makes it even more important for Australia with its comparative advantage in low-cost fossil fuel energy to unpick the subsidies, taxes, standards and renewable requirements that have dogged competitiveness and added to consumer prices.
The piece concludes
The existence of considerable bodies of climate action promoting personnel within the public service and in government financed agencies not only represents waste but means continued pressure to maintain and amplify imposts on enterprise that adversely affect industry competitiveness. A priority must be to cull these bodies and their funding.
