Thankful Nuns Celebrate Sotomayor’s Contraceptive Mandate Stay
A group of Catholic nuns celebrated Wednesday the decision by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to issue a stay in a crucial portion of the Obama healthcare law that would have forced religious groups to provide health insurance coverage for birth control and other medications designed to induce abortions.

I am very proud indeed to be Mrs. Hairy Ape. Years ago it took more courage to insist on being known as Mrs. Leftie Philosopher, but I still did it. The feminist cliques ignored my little rebellion and still went for my husband. Julia Gillard was just living their dream.

    Female circumcision case falls through

    ALEISHA ORR July 04, 2013

Prosecutors in Perth have reportedly dropped charges against a northern suburbs couple who had been accused of organising a genital mutilation procedure for their baby daughter.

The couple’s identities had been suppressed throughout the couple’s appearances in court.

It is understood that the prosecutors dropped the charges on the grounds that there was not a reasonable prospect of conviction.

The Perth mother and father were alleged to have organised the illegal circumcision of their baby girl in Bali.

The 44-year-old father and 42-year-old mother had been accused of taking their daughter to Perth Airport in August 2012 with the intention of taking the girl to overseas for the procedure.

Female circumcision is performed in some cultures and religions, but is illegal in Australia.

It is also illegal to perform, arrange or take a child out of the state for such a procedure.

One wedding, three stories and fish porn
Paul Sheehan Sydney Morning Herald columnist

The most interesting person at the table, for me, was a commercial fisherman, which meant he lived far outside my urban bubble.

Along with the rest of his industry, he believed Australia was engaging in what I term fish porn.

As the fisherman said: ”If we are not using our own marine resources but are enjoying a seafood meal at the expense of someone else, it’s an immoral position to be in.”

My fishing friend also loathed the carbon tax and thought it had been highly corrosive to business while achieving nothing. He even checked his electricity bill later and called me with the numbers: in December 2010, his monthly bill was $1617. Last month it was $2255, an increase of 40 per cent in three years, with no expansion in usage or equipment. This increase, plus ever-increasing compliance costs, made him decide not to hire a part-time assistant, so he saw the tax as a job-killer and price-riser.

Thanks Lizzie – I guess I have an addictive personality problem – my wife certainly thinks so in respect of wine – can’t quite give up coming here, even though the trolling is often beyond a joke. But where else can one go? Much as I love Tim Blair’s, he also can be quite frustrating in not publishing comments, sometimes for days. But he does keep the troll count low. Bolt does good work but forget the comments section. Likewise Piers and Miranda.

Some writing has been undertaken by my real persona in fits and starts, nothing serious, but constantly hampered or squeezed by the reality of family members needing this, that and sometimes money. Not quite the same scene you deal with, but it has its moments. I suppose I could die happy that I had a family, even though a mixed bag, and I’ve had a full life.

Judiciary must stop giving young, drunk, violent men a slap on the wrist and get serious about making the city safer

But if the judiciary cannot be convinced that a king-hit offence is just as serious as shooting or stabbing someone, then we may as well all give up and do what they do in other lawless parts of the world – stay in, behind locked doors. In the case of Kieran Loveridge, who murdered young Thomas Kelly, he should not have been walking the streets, having just recently gate-crashed a party and assaulted the occupant of the home.
Loveridge should have had bail conditions placed on him that prevented him going out after dark until his court matter was finalised.
Every drunk or drug-addled idiot who commits offences in public needs to be confined to their homes until the courts are satisfied they understand the meaning of personal and accountable responsibility.

Genital mutilation guidelines to help treat victims

    MELISSA DAVEY November 24, 2012

Unsure of procedures … doctors dealing with genital mutilation. Photo: Louie Douvis

THOUSANDS of victims of genital mutilation live in NSW and experts say doctors are untrained in how to treat them, with many suffering from childbirth complications as a result of their condition.

But those are only the thousands in NSW, there are also thousands in other States, and, they are older numbers from years ago, before the more recent floods of illegal entrants and ‘family reunions’.

Fairfax makes fun of silly old Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen:

Bjelke-Petersen government spent $50,000 on ‘cloud seeding’.

As against billions spent by Labor to stop the earth warming.

Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s government spent $50,000 in an attempt to make it rain, newly released cabinet documents show.

In one of the previously secret 1983 state cabinet documents, released on New Year’s Day under the 30-year rule, it was revealed the Bjelke-Petersen cabinet agreed to spend the money to conduct cloud seeding operations in Queensland.

Final paragraph in 15 paragraph story:

More than two decades later, in 2006, the Beattie government allocated $7.6 million on a cloud seeding trial in south-east Queensland during that period’s devastating drought.

We have a sick culture and alcohol and drugs are is at the centre of it.

Ask any security or police officer and while drunks behave drunkedly, which is usually predictable and able to be handled, the real dangers come from those off their heads on meth or ice. Still drunks are no fun either.

I read before how someone said the drinking culture from old days had blokes in pubs who could handle their alcohol, and it was a sign of shame if you could not. as well, grubs who were acting up were quickly dealt with by patrons.

Something about “getting smashed” I don’t get. I have no idea why losing self awareness or consciousness or ability to control your actions is seen as hip / cool / neat. I just don’t get it.

    Snowden sometimes rational, sometimes hysterical
“A child born today will grow up with no conception of privacy at all. They’ll never know what it means to have a private moment to themselves — an unrecorded, unanalyzed thought. And that’s a problem, because privacy matters. Privacy is what allows us to determine who we are and who we want to be.”
Read his words carefully: He says that someone will be recording and analyzing our every thought. This is “they put a chip in my brain” stuff.

There’s a whole thread on the ACCC fostering collusion, but what about the incredible collusion between pollies and media that allowed the Labor mob to get away with their NBN crappola for years and years. Here’s just a taste of a damning article, reflecting my own sage opinions (sorry if being repetitive in linking), which is all the more more remarkable given who wrote it:

For 4 1/2 years Labor spruiked the supposed importance of ubiquitous fibre-based high-speed broadband to Australia’s economic future. It did so without any evidence that ubiquitous high-speed broadband was needed or could be paid for. Indeed, although there is considerable evidence about the benefits of broadband per se, there are no studies that prove very-high-speed broadband yields benefits commensurate with the investment required.

Just repeating, it isn’t a “Russian research ship,” as Fauxfacts’s travel section claims. It is a tourist charter boat with Russian owners. It was chartered by a bunch of climate alarmists, headed by UNSW professor Chris Turney, mostly funded with public money.

  37. pete m

Cloud seeding is scientifically proven to initiate rain in right conditions, but whether it would have rained anyway is unknown.

AGW / climate change is also scientifically proven – our climate changes every day! Funnily enough according to the wonder scientists latest research clouds are partly at fault, so maybe they will recommend cloud seeding to disperse clouds?

    Irony much?

Jonathan Rothfield is a significant figure in Julia Gillard’s life

This is Jonathan Rothfield, aged 11 with his mother and father. The article was first published in the Sydney Morning Herald on 7 January, 1958 -

…and that’s the introduction at Michael Smith News.com today, to a much older and deeper insight into how the majority of Australians got suckered into empowering Australia’s oldest enemies.

Please read it all, including all the documents and site readers comments, then cast your own minds back to curious little details in your own childhoods and family histories, and you are bound to recognise those who were and are, ‘Enemies In Your Own House’.

I guess I have an addictive personality problem – my wife certainly thinks so in respect of wine – can’t quite give up coming here, even though the trolling is often beyond a joke.

Wives are funny that way, Blogstrop. As a wife to Da Hairy Irish Ape, I too have been known to remonstrate in a similar manner. Then I give up, and sometimes join in. On such occasions we party hard together till late into the night, and as we cannot buy our way out of most family responsibilities (nor would we wish to do so) we are often roused early as our bed becomes a jumping castle. I stagger tired through the day and so does he, only to revive in the evening after all chores are done and that old magic begins again for us. Occasionally we both drink not a drop and sleep for a whole weekend – or so it seems. What pleasure.

The peace of the writer’s life is not yet for me, if ever it is to be (which I doubt). I too cannot give up the Cat either. Fits and starts will have to be my mode, as it is yours. But who would be without their families?

There is some discussion that the Russian Captain, followed requests, that the researchers went by ATV (All Terrain Vehicles) to Mawson’s Hut 80km away (?for 2 days) and did not observe the changing weather. Thus Russian Captain had to wait for their return.
