Crowd funding – Climate Change: The Facts 2014

The IPA is running a crowd funding appeal to fund its new book: Climate Change: The Facts 2014.

NEW-cover-the-facts

So here is the deal:

If you make a tax-deductible donation of $400 or more you will have the option of being prominently acknowledged on the back cover of Climate Change: The Facts 2014.

Go on – you know you want to. The IPA will put that money to much better use than Joe Hockey ever will.

Contributors include: Andrew Bolt, Bob Carter, James Delingpole, Donna Laframboise, Nigel Lawson, Richard Lindzen, Joanne Nova, Patrick Michaels, Ian Plimer, Mark Steyn and Anthony Watts.

Hardly a balanced line-up is it, Sinclair?

  2. .

    Balance! Let Christine Milne donate!

It would be better than letting her open her mouth.

  3. Sinclair Davidson

Hardly a balanced line-up is it, Sinclair?

Look, I understand there’s only three women in that line up, but they’re worth ten men each.

  4. boy on a bike

Yeah – it needs to be balanced with a line up of leftist frauds, liars and lunatics.

  5. Gab

And the Gold goes to Doomlord.

  6. Myrddin Seren

I wish I had a spare $400 to donate in the name of Albert Arnold Gore :-(

  7. Honesty

Science isn’t about balance, note the words facts hamburger, the things you ignore or distort.

  8. jumpnmcar

    BOAB

Yeah – it needs to be balanced with a line up of leftist frauds, liars and lunatics.

I have no doubt many of their opinions will appear in the book.

  9. feelthebern

I’d prefer to crowd fund Deadman & Alfred suing the pants of a certain principal & education system.

  10. Honesty

Sinc, I will buy one and I am happy to buy another under any name you nominate. Happy for you to nominate, run as a competition or any fun activity you wish.
We can arrange offline using my email.

  11. Who is the first contributor “John Abbot”, is that “Anthony John Abbott”?

  12. Joe Goodacre

There are plenty of good publications and websites out there that already cover these issues.

It appears that this money is better donated to Mark Steyn where a real battle is being fought. If Mann loses the global warming sails will have lost their wind. If Mann wins, watch out any conservative commentator.

  13. Alf

    Fuck off Alf.

It took you 8 minutes to come up with that?

  14. Mk50 of Brisbane, Henchman to the VRWC

    How interesting!

In 1926 the peak oil resource bedwetters were already with us.

Four US cabinet pollies formed the Federal oil Conservation Board. The poor dears were convinced that the USA only had six years worth of oil left, and that annual consumption of 31,500 million gallons was greatly excessive!

This is a publication authored by many pre-eminent peoples who have, for many years courageously and consistently spoken out. And often done so under their own cheque book, NOT government grants. It is a worthwhile request to support.

This is the site for donating to support Mark Steyn.

    Fuck off please.

Hammy first out the gates and hitting the nail on the copper head as usual with witty irony:

Hardly a balanced line-up is it, Sinclair?

Indeed hammy, they are all balanced and sane and reasonable people! For an unbalanced debate full of alarmists and modellers and other hysterics consider this.

  17. Wonderful IPA initiative, and I happily support this effort to put some fact back into the debate.

Just sent in my contribution and I should make it on to that cover. :-)

  18. Docket62

I d like to donate for me and my friends, our names for the book are:
    Christine Milne
    Sarah Hansen-young
    Adam Bandt
    Julia Gillard
    Bill shorten
    Tony Burke

Where would you like the the $2400? Best money I’ve ever spent!

  19. feelthebern

Alf, I don’t watch the cat files all day.
    I wish I could.
I checked in, saw your contribution and responded accordingly.
I’ve just checked in again, so I say again : fuck off alf.

  20. nerblnob

Can’t see much point in this. Looks too much like preaching to the choir.

I think if the proceeds were used to fund publishing the book and giving it to libraries, hotels, doctor’s waiting rooms etc would be worthwhile.

All libertarian leaning books ala Friedman, Rand, Hoppe etc should have a similar treatment.

  22. sabrina

What is the target$ IPA trying to achieve Sinc?
While it is a worthwhile initiative for IPA to undertake, and they have assembled a good group of contributors, I wonder why they ask for tax-deductible donations, which is really using taxpayer’s money in part.
But this is good initiative after all.

  23. Sinclair Davidson

Sabrina – I don’t know what the target is. The IPA is asking for donations whether people chose to make a tax deduction is up to them not the IPA.

  24. nerblnob

giving it to libraries, hotels, doctor’s waiting rooms etc would be worthwhile.

Best get moving before people stop reading books altogether then. Where I live, libraries are closing down, and the local clinic stopped putting out magazines, Readers Digests etc in a handwashing frenzy. Laughter is no longer the best medicine it seems.

  25. Joe Goodacre

    Jesse,

The cause may be worthwhile, but we live in a world of scarcity.

One look at the author list indicates that any crowd funding will draw from the same base as Mark Steyn would.

There is ample material on the web for those who already recognise those authors.

There are only a couple of cases against Mann at the moment and the outcome of these will be critical to the public perception of global warming. Any book the IPA does won’t be critical to that public perception.

For those who read Steyn regularly, they would know that he no longer writes for National Review, no longer is doing his defence with National Review and he is regularly asking for financial help – something he didn’t do when he was last sued in Canada.

So, if one was going to give $500 to Mark Steyn and $100 to the IPA – my suggestion would be for our base to focus on what is critical, and to give $600 to Mark Steyn.

  26. Facts and Truth know no biase! As long as sources and info is varifiable and reporoduceable? What’s the problem!

By all means… have 100 opinions. But you only need half a dozen facts in most cases of argument!

  27. Can I suggest getting Christopher Topher on board? of 50 to 1 fame. http://is.gd/PiPFY1

  28. Sorry, correction! Christopher Fields! I get is nic name confused! :)

  29. .

nerb- maybe some sort of targeted giveaway on kindle. The targeting is the work of marketing gurus.

  30. Jannie

Well I just donated $400 and I ticked the box saying I want my name on tyhe back. It’s the only chance I will ever have of being famous.
