  1. Parasites with guns? Ah but we have ‘gun laws’.

I won’t hold my breath waiting for Labour pollies to condemn that man but neither will I expect those who do have guns – the 19 y/o police I see on the street telling people in Hobart to ‘move along’ for daring to hold a sign asking ‘who cares about freedom of speech – to go and arrest that man for his suggestion of shooting Alan Joyce.

  2. Infidel Tiger

    Death threats? How gauche.

  3. Shelley

I had quite a spray at someone who posted some crap about these rallies on my FB page.

Another unfriend coming up – care factor – zero. I only have FB to check out my children’s holiday snaps – so don’t friend request me, then pollute my page with your leftist filth.

  4. lotocoti

With luck, Gary Kennedy will get the nod for ALP national president.
Followed by two to five in the big house.

  5. candy

Sinclair, May I ask what in your experience does this mean for the Abbott government and how do they react to it. Is there something they’re doing that is fundamentally wrong?

It seems really personally directed at Tony Abbott. Listening to that bloke talking about Gina Rinehart, Tony Abbott and Alan Joyce being another person to be shot in the back of the head … I’ve never heard such stuff before. I’m just amazed.

  6. Tal

Welcome to the culture wars Candy

  7. Nic

Whew, that’s a relief . It’s not as if someone was called a witch.

  8. Tintarella di Luna

… another person who should be shot somewhere in the back of the head …

Gee did anyone see any of that on the ABC tonight, no little fresh-faced reporterette looking assiduously for any offensive signs which might be rude to the Prime Minister? No? Nothing?

    They live in LeftieWorld.

In their hearts they “know” that when they say shit like that, they don’t really mean it, they are just showing their “passion”.

OTOH, when a conservative says shit like that, it must be a Death Threat (TM), as they “know” conservatives have no “passion”.

What a bunch of narcissistic children they are.

  11. Gab

Labor Union thug issues death threat.
    News at 11.

  12. Old School Conservative

Typical union thug. Can’t even use the English language properly. He has all his acolytes wondering if they should shoot Mr Joyce somewhere in the world and in taking the shot hit him in the back of the head: OR should they shoot as long as they hit him somewhere in the back of the head.
Either way, he is advocating extreme violence and physical harm. Bet the police union boys and girls don’t knock on his door. I’m sure the NSW LINOs won’t issue a call to arms despite this hatred inciting, ridicule building, contempt encouraging speech. It would be a wonderful thing for this country if the Federal government took action against such vicious language but I’m not holding my breath.

  13. mareeS

Gary Kennedy…Newcastle Trades Hall boss. I can’t believe he actually said that (and was recorded on film, so he is done and dusted). The bloke usually makes a bit of sense, but that is way, way out of line. He must have been channelling his inner Glaswegian.

  14. Viva

Isn’t there a law against incitement to violence?

  15. gabrianga

For the wimps at the ANU, that is a real death threat

  16. Shauno

The left especially the green far left are showing them selves to be dangerous fanatics to the point where ASIO should be taking a very good look at these people as they do with jihad enthusiasts.

  17. Gab

Isn’t there a law against incitement to violence?

I’m aware of one but that is based only on racial or religious grounds.

  18. Cold-Hands

Joyce should play the victim card; Gary Kennedy must be an evil homophobe to threaten him with violence.

  19. C.L.

You know what – ultimately – led to these protests, right?

    No deaths.

The left was wetting its collective pants waiting for boat deaths.

They were awaiting these deaths with an almost sexual ravenousness.

  20. Yobbo

How much of a landslide does the election have to be before the usual left-wing idiots will accept the will of the people?

    No deaths.

The left was wetting its collective pants waiting for boat deaths.

They were awaiting these deaths with an almost sexual ravenousness.

That is unquestionably the case. They booked these protests months in advance, hoping in the meantime a war would have taken place between us and the Indonesians, and the deterrence policy would be ruined. No such luck. I’ve been having enormous fun baiting them on Twitter over this. It drives them nuts.

  22. C.L.

    Oh yeah.

I forgot about the “tensions” with Indonesia and suggestions of imminent “conflict.”

    Ahahahahaha.

  23. Baldrick

Ahhh … but you’re missing the point.
It’s all in the name of a ‘good’ cause so that makes any death threat, homophobic or distasteful message legitimate, where normally the left would feign outrage.
    That’s the progressive way.

  24. For the wimps at the ANU, that is a real death threat

    No, it isn’t.
A death threat is a statement, in the indicative, of an intention or menace to inflict harm or hostile action upon someone, or a similar command in the imperative ordering another person to inflict harm or hostile action upon someone, in order to effect that person’s certain death. A wish, in the subjunctive, or a prediction in any future tense, no matter how suggestive of an infliction of harm, is not a real death threat.
If X say “Y ought to be shot”, he expresses a non-threatening contingency, even if it be interpreted as an obligation by someone else.
If X say “Y will indubitably be shot”, he makes a non-threatening prediction.
If King X say “Oh, who will rid me of this troublesome Y?”, he asks a non-threatening question.
Even if X say “I’m gonna make Y really sorry one day”, though intimidatory, could (X might argue) merely anticipate forceful argument rather than any physical violence.
Only if X say “I shall kill [or defenestrate, crucify, behead, etc.] Y”, or “Z, do kill [or defenestrate, crucify, behead, etc.] Y” , does he make a real death threat.*

Already, alas, too few people these days can distinguish between wishes, contingencies and possibilities on the the one hand and orders, facts and certainties on the other; if we join in this indiscriminate misreading of subjunctive utterances as indicative statements we subtract yet another fine differentiation in our language and assist in the further impoverishment of subtlety in thought.
Sadly, I’ve had conversations such as this over the years.

I: “That would be a stupid thing to do.”
Other Bloke: “What, are you calling me stupid?”
I: “No, I said, conditionally, that your possible act, if you were to do it, would be a stupid one.”
O.B.: “I heard you: you said I was stupid!”
    I: “Well, I wasn’t calling you stupid—until now.”

    * by the way, any sign containing the message “Behead all infidels” surely constitutes an incitement. In Tasmania’s Criminal Code Act (1924):

    298. Inciting to commit crimes
Any person who incites another to commit a crime is guilty of a crime.

  25. A Lurker

What a bunch of narcissistic children they are.

And some of these ‘children’ also seem to have climbed a very tall tree, then promptly fallen off, hitting their heads on every branch on the way down.

I am truly concerned for the safety and well-being of Tony Abbott and the others in their sights. I hope the AFP are watching these demonstrations, recording the video, and taking notes, because there seems to be mentally deranged people attending these demonstrations – a little more goading from the organisers and God knows what might happen – and if something did happen, then I suspect Australians would be horrified and angered, and it would be the end of any public sympathy or empathy for the Progressive Left here. So my caution to the Left is this – beware what you wish for.

  26. Major Elvis Newton

So the ‘reporter’ from the Newcastle Herald refers to the Prime Minister Tony Abbott as “The Mad Monk”.

    Nice.

And as for Newcastle Trades Hall ‘boss’ Gary Kennedy, like most of his spiteful & under-achieving brethren, he fled to Australia after Margaret Thatcher handed his movement their arses as part of her highly succcessful prosperity drive which was only thwarted by another Labour stooge in Tony Blair.

The final touch of sweet irony is seeing two ‘progressive’ ingenues warbling a 40 year old song about paving paradise and putting up a parking lot.

    Nothing like progress hey.

  27. Rabz

I’m not going to watch the union thug, but the photos on the Bolt page are disgusting enough.

I’m starting to become very worried about how irrational, stupid and potentially violent so many lefties appear to be nowadays. It really is a mental illness.

homophobia–surely the boofy blokey union official should know that calling for the homosexual joyce to be ‘pooftabashed’ means being called in by human resources and instructed to undergo sensitivity training?. what other job lets a bloke call for pooftabashing, and be cheered for it. what action will the union human resources department take? i know in iran you can swing gays from construction cranes like pinatas, but here?.

  31. boy on a bike

I can’t summon the energy to develop some confected outrage over this crap.

I agree, there are so many big issues it is hard to be anything more than disappointed that the media is suppressing the true story.

I note that the twittering of the images did not break through the media’s lock on the news like it did when the muzzies rioted & attacked police 2 years ago.

    And yet…
    Roland Browne, NCGC, Oct 1995:

WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A MASSACRE IN TASMANIA!

ACA and their partners the NCGC framed a vague possibility as certainty, on a program teaching the public how to buy guns without a licence in Tasmania via classified ads. As a result a man travelled to Tassie, bought a gun as described on the program, and killed himself, and according to Coroner Ian Matterson he followed the script provided by the program. Six months later, the police asked Martin Bryant when he bought the AR15 rifle he used to murder 35 people and wound another 19.
His answer: “About five months ago.” He later went on to say something incoherent about you were supposed to get them from advertisements. This he said despite the fact that he appears to have bought his from a gun dealer whowas breaking the law to sell to him.

Media glamour and role modelling gave us the Port Arthur massacre.

Now media are glamourising and showing role models for political violence. It won’t end well.

Sadly I have fixed it for you.

Based on the comments on social media and in the regular media, I am at a loss to explain how the LNP obtained government at all (both here in Qld and Federally).

Must have been a lot of p*ssed off rusted on ALP voters who temporarily voted LNP to throw out the incompetents of the ALP who now regret their change of heart; the constant bad news stories are certainly adding fuel to the fuel of the media witch hunt against TA.

And it’s across the board not just ABC24 or evil Kochie:

    * Qantas jobs lost.
    * Qantas being sold out to foreigners (heard that said on commercial radio).
    * Foreigners buying all our productive farm land and jacking up our house prices…
    * Inhumane torture of (ok this one was largely the ABC).
    * Holden jobs lost.
    * Toyota jobs lost.
    * Amazing internet infrastructure (NBN) cancelled.
    * No fast trains.
    * No real action on climate change and now the environment is being devastated.
    * Likewise in Tasmania.
    * Government employment being cut back
    * Spending cut and “austerity” now in place.
    * Economy in peril due to the Liberals cuts above.

  35. Anne

“Every idea is an incitement. The only difference between the expression of an opinion and an incitement in the narrower sense is the speaker’s enthusiasm for the result.”

? Source. I can’t remember where I read this. May have been one of the Cat commenters.

  36. Holmes, J. in his dissenting opinion (of 268 U.S. 652, Gitlow v. People)*:

Every idea is an incitement. It offers itself for belief, and, if believed, it is acted on unless some other belief outweighs it or some failure of energy stifles the movement at its birth. The only difference between the expression of an opinion and an incitement in the narrower sense is the speaker’s enthusiasm for the result. Eloquence may set fire to reason. But whatever may be thought of the redundant discourse before us, it had no chance of starting a present conflagration. If, in the long run, the beliefs expressed in proletarian dictatorship are destined to be accepted by the dominant forces of the community, the only meaning of free speech is that they should be given their chance and have their way.

    * The Court upheld the conviction of Benjamin Gitlow, a founding member of the Communist Party of the USA, on a charge of criminal anarchy, on the basis that the government may suppress or punish speech which directly advocates the unlawful overthrow of the government by force or violence, and and it upheld the constitutionality of the New York statute which made such an attempted overthrow of the government by force or violence a crime.

How much of a landslide does the election have to be before the usual left-wing idiots will accept the will of the people?

Maybe at 99% rejection of the socialists, the hard Left would shut up for a bit, or go full metal terrorist. Otherwise, they seem to be convinced of the historical inevitability of the Left ascendency and the imposition of the dogmas on culture, economy and politics.

The true believers simply cannot fathom that the country voted against their imperatives. Look at McKim’s ‘concession’ speech in Tassie. Paraphrasing: ‘Okay, the government has unfathomably changed, but change the Greens’ policies and it is war.’ His words.

Our family worries where this drumbeat of hate and implied violence as a political cause is going – and hope the Feds have beefed up TA’s security.

  42. cuckoo

As Tintarella says, the ABC tv news segment (Sunday, 7pm) on the Melbourne protest rigorously avoided showing any of the Abbott-Nazi posters, etc., and played up the kids in prams angle.* And the ABC girly who was reporting on the ground described it in the same hushed tones of reverential awe that she would have used for the grievances of Arab Spring protesters in Tahrir Square or the Ukrainian liberal protesters in Kiev.
    * Although they did inadvertently catch video of an obscene poster describing a homosexual act between Abbott and Rupert Murdoch.

  43. james

How much of a landslide does the election have to be before the usual left-wing idiots will accept the will of the people?

    No election would be sufficient.

They are on the RIGHT side of history you see, no matter how demented their dreams they WILL COME TRUE it is just a matter of time and sufficient state power.

I don’t care any-more. They have completed their march through every institution, there is no hope left, even half the supposed conservatives in Australia jump to their tune.

Half the people commenting on this site who consider themselves hardened enemies of the left would have been considered leftists themselves only a few decades ago.

Society will die and nothing better will replace it.

As a great Sci-Fi author once said, this will be considered “Bad Luck”.

Screw Australia, I have served this country and I don’t like what it is becoming, I am going to use my relative wealth to find a place in the former third world for me and my family to hold up and watch the world collapse in relative comfort and security.

You are welcome to your absurdities Australia, I just don’t give a damn any more.

    Leena Landsay:

So this is where all the brain dead fascists hang out, so weak and pathetic. Scared of the organised working class – hah what a bunch of soft slugs.

Brain dead fascists? That would be the people talking about killing their political opponents, hating them with puppet effigies and obscene posters, simulating ripping their heads off or sodomising dogs for pictures to photoshop their opponents heads onto.

That would be the unionists who bash their people that won’t acquiesce to cover-ups, and the public officials who use their position against private political opponents.

That would be the kind of people that call those who disgree with them politically ‘fascists’.

  50. Token

Scared of the organised working class – hah what a bunch of soft slugs.

Why would we be scared of the people we are a part of?

We can understand why the hard left who live have no useful skills so are dependent on taxpayer funds are scared of people in fluoro shirts.

  51. leena landsay

blah blah blah – oh yes the right are just so polite and lovely – ditch the witch, chaff bag into the ocean – ring any bells. Token (how fitting) you are part of the organised working class, I doubt that very much – or is there a new fascist organisation of the workers that we haven’t heard about.

  52. blogstrop

The organised working class? Organised graft, corruption, standover and leap-froggy shagging – well that’s for the governing union racketeers anyway. You must be so proud, Ms Hearsay.

  53. harrys on the boat

The deranged left just can’t help themselves. In the days of social media there’s no need to march in public to display your mental illness to the world. In 140 characters or less the left has shown a remarkable talent for disgracing themselves to a wide audience.

Apart from the ABC the only news outlet that I have seen to report on the march is news.com and they mock it. All politicians, even those from the liars and greenfilth have given it a wide berth. The majority of media outlets wouldn’t give it column inches as they see it the same as the general public – a bunch of mentally ill fuckwits soiling themselves in public.

    I’d have them march weekly.

  54. Token

Token (how fitting) you are part of the organised working class

So someone is only a part of the working class as long as they are “organised”?

Sounds like another privileged upper middle class kid who never has seen how hard life is for working class people who are struggling to pay their power bills and are afraid for their jobs.

  55. Gab

oh yes the right are just so polite and lovely -

Yeah and that’s the problem. No placards of gillard fu*king a dog; no posters advocating gillard be killed; printing t-shirts for sale and writing on banners “FUCK GILLARD”, depicting gillard as a Nazi, starting a Facebook page advocating gillard be killed two minutes after she became PM etc. Seriously, the Right should lift its game and be just as feral as the leftards showed themselves to be on the weekend.

But that won’t happen; for starters those on the Right have a better command of English and a better vocabulary plus wit and humour.

Still, I do wonder why these feral leftards never protested against Rudd and gillard over their opening up many, many detention centers, sending alleged asylum seekers back to whence they came, sending women and children to be sold into sex slavery in Malaysia and generally boosting the trade in people-trafficking. Their hypocrisy and lack of intelligence knows no limit.

Then again, Abbott is obviously doing something right for the ferals to go to such trouble as to protest. Two things make them physically move: protests against a conservative PM and Centrelink visits.

  56. James in Melbourne

Who came out with the “poofta-bashing” comment re Joyce? Was that seriously said?

  57. leena landsay

oh boo hoo, why don’t you all go and cry to mummy, delicate little petals – probably all self funded retirees or middle class welfare bludgers, wouldn’t last a day if any of you had a real job.

  58. Tom

We need more exhibits from the Festival of Mental Illness to show up at the Cat. I hope they set fire to Parliament House in Canberra today, Leena, to show everybody how fucken (sic) angry youze all are.

I am a vegan activist and Gay rights activist and proud member of The Australian Greens and will be vying for preselection with the Australian Greens
I am unemployed and refuse to work so that some corporation can profit. This gives me more time to fight for the struggle of the workers.

… while being paid by them in the form of welfare benefits, which I claim cheerfully and with no hint of guilt that someone from a non-English speaking background has spent an 8 hour shift cleaning toilets to pay taxes to subsidise my lifestyle choice …

I am part of a group of people that attempt to correct the misguided opinions of many vile right wing neocons on many shockjock sites and believe that the more we contribute the more support we garner.

You believe wrong, love. But keep contributing, because by doing so, you reaffirm (over and over) the validity of our world-view.

So give us the good oil. Let’s start with your special subject for tonight’s show, the crimes of the Abbott government.

    - slashing welfare to single parents? Oops, that was Labor.
    - killing thousands of refugees through their inept border management? Oops, that was Labor.

    Anything else, while we’re here?

    Theodore Dalrymple has a great line in todays Oz, talking about the heavily tattooed, but applicable to the Moochers;

The identification of the tattooed with tramps, beggars, cripples and criminals is not a desire to help them or reduce their suffering, but Moochers with anti-Abbott sentiment is purely romantic; a desire to be in opposition to society without paying the price for it.

  76. leena landsay

this is the funniest “forum” I have seen for at least a week. A bunch of whiney, wailing sookie babies, what’s the matter your middle class welfare late this week. Never mind your money will turn up – after all the Prime Minister Scabbrott has said that the middle class bludgers are safe, the Loony Nutters Party are only going after those that actually need welfare, not those blood sucking “entitled” bludger types. Maybe gina can give you all $2 an hour to work for her.

Hey leena, next time you are at one of your ‘organized’ labour gatherings, ask the bloke in charge if he prefers to spend his skimmed union cash on prostitutes or buying properties in his wife’s name. We’d like to know which type of embezzlement is most popular these days, it’s becoming hard to keep up.

  85. oh boo hoo, why don’t you all go and cry to mummy, delicate little petals – probably all self funded retirees or middle class welfare bludgers, wouldn’t last a day if any of you had a real job.

If you’ve got nothing to contribute, why come here to demonstrate your paralysis of intellect?

  86. Ellen of Tasmania

You’ve got to love the ignorance of “self-funded retirees” who “wouldn’t last a day in a real job”.

    That is almost Pythonesque.

  87. this is the funniest “forum” I have seen for at least a week.

What happened to the crimes of the Abbott government, leena?

We are all eagerly waiting your coherent and persuasive analysis of – oh, OK, let’s start somewhere easy for you – the welfare issue.

But surely it was the Gillard government who cut welfare to single parents, forcing them back into the workplace before their time?
Convert us. We are waiting to hear the truth.

  88. oh boo hoo, why don’t you all go and cry to mummy, delicate little petals – probably all self funded retirees or middle class welfare bludgers, wouldn’t last a day if any of you had a real job.

I’m enjoying leena’s contributions, Steve. She’s so far affirmed me wonderfully in my wrongheadedness.

Here was me thinking that all lefties were shrieking numbats, incapable of rational thought, and lo! up pops leena, who can barely use punctuation in between the spittle-flecks.

Huzzah! A perfect St Patrick’s Day gift.

oh dear, why aren’t you all on here celebrating the destruction of our economy and the loss of jobs – there is still a few years to revel in the victory of the stupidest government in our history – what’s up, busted not paying your taxes or did mumsy forget to pack your lunches today.

  90. Token

What time will you be going Leena? What time is your Centrelink appontment?

  91. the Loony Nutters Party

Tsk, tsk, leena. I’m surprised at you.

A sensitive, compassionate person like yourself, who clearly cares for the oppressed and the downtrodden in our sadly heartless and capitalism-ridden decaying nightmare of a society, using the words ‘loony’ and ‘nutter’ as terms of abuse.

I think the good people at Mad Pride may have a thing or two to say to you about this.

That’s awesome, Leena, but we wanted to know your position on Nidal Hasan. It’s vitally important.

  101. ChrisPer

‘Destruction of our economy’? I notice that the Convoy of No Confidence was not run to protest a Liberal Government, but for a bunch of Liars that smashed industries and relationships with a neighbouring country because a misleading TV program panicked them.

How many of the April in April crowd bought fuel and spent weeks to drive across the country after the Government destroyed their industry? If you moved the dole cheque six inches the left progressives would starve to death.

  102. Gab

  150. elhombre, that was very tantalising – let’s share the quote, shall we?

Wollongong Communist Party Branch Secretary, Leanne Lindsay, told The
Guardian that there is a need to develop an alternative to the two
major parties, both of which have attacked the rights of workers. “Right-
wing Labor does not have the interests of workers at heart any more than
    the Liberal Party”, Leanne said.

“This is shown very clearly by these changes to workers’ compensation which
is a vital issue in a city like Wollongong. At the next state election many
workers will be looking for alternatives to Labor and Liberal — for
candidates and parties which will stand up for the interests of the working
class and that are not in the pockets of the bosses.”

The workers at BHP and Blue Scope I know from the Gong live in big houses, live like Kulaks and the bourgeoisie and have aspirations to become wealthier. Some of them are even decadent, enjoying lots of liquor and plenty of time surfing, like the leisure class.

Leena’s core belief is that such wealth ought to be confiscated and arbitrarily given away, and resistance would lead in a show trial and execution. Communists actually believe this.

This is why the ALP and LNP generally appeal to normal people, and the communist Socialist Alliance never did. The Greens vote would collapse if the politically disengaged knew about the beliefs of key Greens.

Blame daylight saving, Jump. I got in late, too.

Yes, who introduced that shit. With leenas inspiring words I may introduce a company policy that every hour spent at work begins at 6.30 am. After 14 of those they can go home at 7.30am ( Company Time ).
It just that crazy it might work.

Feed the trolls, tuppence a bag….

Right now she’ll be complaining at some other blog that her dissent has been crushed at Catallaxy.
Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.

Fuck her. Who cares. I hope she’s deeply wounded…(not in a bullet in Abbot’s back of the head kinda way either). In fact it ought to be a wounding experience for any leftwing moron who visits here (with the exception of lookers).

Big moon rising for all the Leenalikes tonight. Always brings them out, usually well before evening.

Feed the trolls, tuppence a bag….

Wow! That’s a good price, but, errr, Paul Keating took away my tuppence.

  197. Tel

She really seems to have it in self funded retirees.

If one person demonstrates the ability to not depend on the state for every mouthful, others will follow. Roxon knows her theory so give her credit.

  198. JC

If one person demonstrates the ability to not depend on the state for every mouthful,

The scum resent it Tel. It doesn’t fit into the da inequality theory- now called the critical inequality theory. When you think about it, leftism is so primitive. It’s a throwback to the tribe and everyone sharing the hunt.

  199. Actually she wasn’t an unhinged lefty or a fervent believer in state control of everything.

    She was just plain demented.

  200. elhombre

My theory is that she is now sleeping off whatever cheap plonk a communist on benefits can afford.

  201. Amused

It seems I will be able to sell my ‘F#ck Julia – Everyone else has’ t-shirts after all.

  202. Molly Molloy

Perhaps Leena should check her rats privilege.Might have a gold tooth.

  203. Burns

It was a rough and honest figure of speech expressing the sentiment well heard throughout the country – that Joyce needs to resign. His decision for 5000 Australian incomes to be cut to save his own back was irresponsible, ruthless and a direct result of his poor management strategies. Not only is QANTAS becoming a laughing stock on the world stock market, they are now a laughing stock in their own backyard.
