  1. Bruce in WA

Hadley saying another phone call received: some hostages requiring medical intervention.

  2. Makka

    ‘which will soon be over’

While you are at it, who will win the 1st race at Rosehill next Saturday?

  3. jupes

According the TheirABC 24, we shouldn’t be reading too much into the ISIS like flag.

I don’t. It’s an ISLAMIC flag. That’s all you need to know.

  4. Tom

Hadley: some hostages are ill and need medical attention. The muzzie lunatic is using hostages to make demand of media organisations that they can’t comply with, such as broadcasting messages from the hostage-taker.

  5. Zippy The Younger

Surely the police / negotiators know what to do and do it soon

They are not here to negotiate, its global theatre. The only question is can they be taken out before they kill any captives.

  6. Brian of Moorabbin

Dan Andrews – “Victorians should be aware that they can go about their business as normal as these events are unlikely to affect them…”

No fucking shit Dan, it’s happening 800+ kilometres away, it’s not like he’s just going to pop next door and shoot up Russel Street…

    You
    Fucking
    DICKHEAD..

  7. Tintarella di Luna

Andrews in Melbourne has diverted police from other area — that’d other areas like say an investigation into the CFMEU.

  8. notafan

Brothers don’t hesitate in killing Australian people, they deserve to die as they hate Islamic State and kill Muslims for this reason

Liars, where are we killing muslims?
Are the reavers killed attacking the city of Kobane the justification for this atrocity?
Keep it up murderers, rapists and thieves of islam, expose what you truly are to all the world.

  10. Anne

Andrews’ (Victorian Premier) message to the hostages –

“Our best wishes, thoughts and prayers are with you…”

    How utterly sickening!!!

How about, “We are coming to get you! And we will kill these terrorists today!

  11. Roger

Islam IS the Religion of Peace.

That would be peace on their terms, Hammy.

Check this out: A mainstream sharia text on the religious obligations if Sunni Muslims. Start in the Index with “Jews”, which is conveniently followed by “Jihad”.

  12. Tintarella di Luna

Some weepy emotional chick from the ROP is on Hadley right now — they just make me sick — their fake emotional schtick is taquiyya no more no less

  13. jupes

Hadley now doing the “small minority of misunderstanders” thing.

Hadley is second only to the Kayser as an Islamic apologist.

How soon before they wheel out Dr Rifi?

  14. blogstrop

Which group is really the “misunderstanders of Islam”?
The ones who belligerently pursue the re-establishment of the caliphate, or the ones who say they are all peaceniks and are just like us Aussies?

While you are at it, who will win the 1st race at Rosehill next Saturday?

You think that this will go on for weeks, or even days?

MYEFO affects all of us for years ahead. This incident is fodder for the tabloids, and will be forgotten in the hurly-burly of the news cycle within weeks.

  16. Anne

For God’s sake Hammy! Leave that shit for politics.

  17. Baldrick

Other ISIS tweets may also be insightful…

ALHAMDULILLAH we perhaps has taught lesson2 terrorist nation of Australia whose govt kill Muslims , whose nation is adulterer

ALHAMDULILLAH this is first slap from us to Australia for their tremendous crimes against Muslims #IslamicState

InshaAllah we will kill more Australians as they themselves to be blamed, to every action has a reaction #islamicstate #sydneysiege

I hope pray to Almighty Allah, the brother who took Australian hostages in Sydney cafe kill as many pork eaters as possible #IslamicState

  18. The reports we’ve getting suggest that the hostage taker is alone. Obviously just a rogue operator. He’s using the Islamic flag as a cover for himself. Islam IS the Religion of Peace. We MUST NOT allow this to be an anti-Islam excuse.

    Isn’t hammy wonderful?

No matter how obvious things are, he doggedly maintains his blinkers. Such deeply-held faith is actually quite touching, sometimes.

  19. Slayer of Memes

    EUREKA!!

Hammy has just outed himself as none other than Keysar Trad!

He’s just said exactly the same thing Trad said on Ch9 earlier (that this is just some racist bogan using an Islamic flag as a false flag operation to belittle and demean honest Muslims).

Keep spinning Keysar. Unfortunately for you plenty of Australians are going to believe what their lying eyes are seeing, as opposed to your taqqiyya..

  20. Fisky

We MUST increase migration from Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia by at least 100,000/year if we want to avoid future terrorist attacks like these!

  21. Mick Gold Coast QLD

    From cohenite at 2:31 pm:

    ” We’re fucked

. We can’t even describe our enemy let alone fight them; the West is emasculated and the enemy is perfectly disguised; the West regards religious freedom as beyond reproach. Islam is disguised as a religion and acts with impunity with our leaders not only not confronting it but supporting it.”

Limited to the “religious freedom” of its enemy.

When I was 20ish local councils banned the churches from sounding mass or their services using church bells – noise pollution you know.

Now it excuses the medieval death cult from warbling and ululating from their various suburban military headquarters over loudspeakers at sun up, sounding a bit like me, drunk, belting out Benny and the Jets.

In the search for a new front door Christmas wreath we could not find a single one displaying a crucifix or the Star of Bethlehem.

  22. Yohan

Was the talk about ‘devices all over Sydney’ a media rumour or did it really come from the hostage taker?

  23. Lysander

They are not here to negotiate, its global theatre.

Surely they would’ve blown the place up by now if serious? Or are “they” waiting for greater global coverage; say in the ME where most haven’t yet woken to the news?

  24. Alfonso

Seems like it’s just one Islamic scumbag.
IF Scipione has passed up easy shots to end it and hostages are killed he’s going to hear about it.

  25. Tom

I hope pray to Almighty Allah, the brother who took Australian hostages in Sydney cafe kill as many pork eaters as possible #IslamicState

But, but … Andrew Scipione still hasn’t worked out whether it’s terrorism.

  26. Kae

Waleed Ali is dissembling on the flag being hijacked my militants.

  27. jupes

Which group is really the “misunderstanders of Islam”?

A question for the Dr Rifis of the world:

If Mohammad was alive today would he be in Syria fighting for Islamic State or in Australia telling Muslims to live in peace with the Kaffur?

  28. Andore Jr

IF Scipione has passed up easy shots to end it and hostages are killed he’s going to hear about it.

    Inexcusable.

  29. cynical1

This has gone on long enough.

Time to toss in some stun grenades.

    Or pork snags…

  30. Fisky

Sweden has got the right idea. They are bringing in over 80,000 Muslim refugees a year and giving them full welfare benefits. As former Swedish minister Jens Orback said quite rightly,

“We must be open and tolerant toward Islam and Muslims because when we become a minority, they will be so toward us.”

    /larvatusprodeo

  31. Kae

And this terrorist is obviously an amateur terrorist.

Why does Aly get oxygen. And they hang on his every word.

  32. Brian of Moorabbin

Yohan, the original claims were made by someone claiming to be speaking for the hostage-taker, but were never confirmed.

NSW Police chief has said that the police are not in direct contact with the hostage-taker himself (perhaps confirming to the reports that he is using his hostages to conatct the police and media to make statements on his behalf).

I do note that, despite reports saying that there is no device at the Sydney Opera House, NSW police still have the area closed off to the public, and that the bomb squad is still investigating around that area…

  33. The reports we’ve getting suggest that the hostage taker is alone. Obviously just a rogue operator. He’s using the Islamic flag as a cover for himself. Islam IS the Religion of Peace. We MUST NOT allow this to be an anti-Islam excuse.

Hammy, you’ve convinced us at the Cat (20-40 ppl) coz we’re thinkers.

Good luck convincing Joe & Joanne Public.

  34. Thanks for taking our guns, Howard you arsehole. All it would take is one citizen to open their purse and *bang* the “dreadful situation” ends happily.

  35. Fisky

If Mohammad was alive today would he be in Syria fighting for Islamic State or in Australia telling Muslims to live in peace with the Kaffur?

He would be standing in line at Centrelink, receiving the payments for which oppressed minorities like him are owed by our illegitimate society.

  36. Token

Was the talk about ‘devices all over Sydney’ a media rumour or did it really come from the hostage taker?

    There are creeps trolling today.

Hadley has noted 2GB is receiving calls supposedly from inside the seige making a number of claims. It is most probable this is the result of pests. No one is sure if the talk about devices is similar.

I’m well aware of what MYEFO is you stupid bint. You have no clue, like anyone, how or when this will end. You speculate. If this Govt wants to get good positive coverage of their questionable efforts at getting this country’s finances straight, they might do a better job of it than timing the coverage during heightened coverage of this terrorist event and the Police Commissioners presser. As it stands , Hockey can easily be accused of burying the bad news in MYEFO.

Forgotten? Only by drones like you who really don’t give a sh*t about where this country is heading. What the media thinks of Islam, I already know and don’t care.

    For the last 1400 years

  41. Fisky

If we want to avoid future terrorist attacks like these, we must ban all public Christmas celebrations so that Muslims feel more at home.

  42. Rococo Liberal

I’m in the CBD and have to say that the feeling here is weird. Buildings (including mine 2 blocks from the problem) are in lockdown. Peope seem to have taken the incident as an excuse to leave work. A lot of the shops blocks away from the cafe in question have shut.

    It’s all such an overreaction.

If this nutter had instead been a disgruntled father angry at a Family Court decision you couldn’t imagine a city closing down , no matter how many hostages were involved.

  43. Bruce of Newcastle

I have an idea for a new business.

    EXILE PODS™

Your new way to rid your nation of vermin and filth, the Exile Pod is the perfect alternative to a lifetime on welfare!

Constructed in airframe-grade fibreglass, these capsules are coloured bright orange for visibility and contain safe harnesses for the clients, plus three days supply of water and vitamin enhanced pork-based foodstuffs.

Exile Pods come in two sizes, small, for a single client and large, for three clients where internecine fighting is not expected. Typically your Exile Pod would be launched from a moderate height by RAAF Hercules aircraft. An automatically deploying parachute will land the pod safely upon the desert sands and the hatch and restraints will automatically open, freeing the client(s). An additional upgrade is available to allow pods to be dropped from a F/A-18 safely where danger to the humanitarian mission is expected from ground-launched systems.

It is recommended that both passports and citizenship be removed from the clients before embarkation.

Suitable for use in a number of countries including Syria, Iraq, Somalia and Yemen.

  44. JC

Is this right? The radio dude is saying that someone called in saying that another cafe with 50 people has been taken over.

    Hope it isn’t true.

  45. Alfonso

“Thanks for taking our guns, Howard.”

More bullshit. There are far more firearms in legal private ownership in Australia in 2014 than 1996.
So much for the ‘disarming Australia’ meme.

  46. Yohan

If we want to avoid future terrorist attacks like these, we must ban all public Christmas celebrations so that Muslims feel more at home.

They already do it in the US to placate the Muslims. You can only say ‘Happy Holidays’ not ‘Merry Christmas’.

  47. Leo G

Don’t know about the flag, but on some footage he seems to have a headband like Hamas and other Islamic groups wear.
Not to cast aspersions, he may be just a moderate who got cold coffee…

A conspiracy nutter name David Vaughn Icke has claimed Lindt Chocolate’s incorporation of reptiles in the design of its logos is evidence that the corporation is run by the Babylonian Brotherhood of elite alien reptiles. (I say “nutter”, but qualify that with a concession that he makes a living from the exploitation of such conspiracy theories.)

If I were to suggest a conspiracy to explain this terrorist incident, I would link it to the the argument the Australian government has made about the terms of trade emergency- if not just for the timing.

  48. Makka

‘Is this right? The radio dude is saying that someone called in saying that another cafe with 50 people has been taken over.’

Hadley hasn’t mentioned it. What radio dude?

  49. ABC24 now running hard with “False Flag” and how it this is likey not an Islamic operation at all.

Yeah right, that’s why it is wall-to-wall coverage nationwide & why Obama, Harper, Cameron & co have been briefed, coz that is all SOP if a divorced father goes off the rails if disgruntled with a family court decision. *snort*

  50. Cold-Hands

Thoughts and prayers for the poor hostages. However the Islamists involved are seeking martyrdom- I can’t help thinking that the best chance for minimal harm to hostages is to kill the hostage takers before they begin to harm their captives. What would the Israelis do in this situation?

  51. Tom

Why does Aly get oxygen. And they hang on his every word.

Because he has a brand new contract to hasten the bankruptcy of the Ten Network, which has decided to model itself on Fauxfacts and the ABC.

  52. Fred

Victorian Deputy Police Commissioner, on Sky a while ago,has sussed it,he reported that all four Lindt shops in Melbourne have been closed.Clearly this whole event has been nothing more than a disaffected Lindt customer expressing his dissatisfaction with their products.

  53. JC

If this nutter had instead been a disgruntled father angry at a Family Court decision you couldn’t imagine

He’s not a nutter because he’s quite sane.

  54. johanna

I’m well aware of what MYEFO is you stupid bint. You have no clue, like anyone, how or when this will end. You speculate.

I said that it wouldn’t go on for days, let alone weeks. That’s not speculation. It is an encapsulation of the history of sieges where there are lots of hostages and perhaps one or two people holding them.

  55. Token

Some weepy emotional chick from the ROP is on Hadley right now — they just make me sick — their fake emotional schtick is taquiyya no more no less

Do you really believe that 100% of muslims agree with such actions? Do you really believe 100% of muslims feel no shame?

  56. Alfonso, your brother needs your help inside the cafe. You aren’t Australian. You don’t deserve the protections decent people give to your ilk. My father & grandfather used a .303 to kill people so that we didn’t have to suffer arseholes such as you.

Go join your brother suppressing kuffars in the cafe. It is where you belong.

  57. If this nutter had instead been a disgruntled father angry at a Family Court decision you couldn’t imagine

He’s not a nutter because he’s quite sane.

Good point JC. Please delete my “nutter” and insert “arsehole”.

  58. Infidel Tiger

In other terrorism related news Waleed Aly is now the official host of The Project for 2015.

  59. Anne

Sky News Journalist – “The flag is not linked to the ISIS movement, it is more a statement of faith, of prayer…”

    Incredulous!

  60. Alfonso

Come on Stevie you can do it…read slowly, make your move….see if it’ll sink in….
“There are far more firearms in legal private ownership in Australia in 2014 than 1996.
So much for the ‘disarming Australia’ meme.”

  61. JC

NSW police commish reckons he can’t rule out that it’s a terror attack.

You fucking imbecile, what else would it be?

We shouldn’t tolerate these arseholes for one minute longer.

  62. Al Quadea fonso, I don’t give a farq how many guns are registered. They should not be.
Now get your arse over to where it belongs, Syria or somewhere.

  63. Fisky

We need to get J-rr-h on here to explain why this terrorist attack is Dick Cheney’s fault.

  64. NSW police commish reckons he can’t rule out that it’s a terror attack.

He should contact ABC, they’ve ruled out “Terrorism”, coz no bloodshed, coz no media announcement.

He’s not a nutter because he’s quite sane.

Good point JC. Please delete my “nutter” and insert “arsehole”.

Yes by calling people “nutters” you are letting them off the hook for their personal actions and responsibility. I am actually surprised how little the cops have on these guys (guy?)

  66. JC

I’m fucking sick of these de-balled arseholes playing the pelican correctness game when there are lives at risk.

  67. JakartaJaap

This may be a turning point in Australian tolerance of sub-humans. I can see only good news as the people finally awake to the scumbag threat that lurks here. It should see an end to Wily Ali being the go to pet for the ABC. It may also be the shotgun blast to the guts that the Alien Leb Party needs. And…. there must be a special corner in hell for Fraser, done up as a female goat

  68. NT Oldie

Out they come, the Cat hardcocks, give us our guns. Listen closely fools, if you were in the situation of fronting someone with your gun, you would be shaking and shitting your pants so much before you pulled the trigger you would miss them by a bulls arse. STFU about walking around with guns you keyboard warriors.

  69. Alfonso

You’re making progress Stevie, now it’s the registration of guns you claim has disarmed Australia……

Read it again, move your lips….“There are far more firearms in legal private ownership in Australia in 2014 than 1996. So much for the ‘disarming Australia’ meme.”

  70. Zatara

“otherwise the hostages could take him down.”

Assuming that the education system and press hasn’t made them sympathetic to his “cause”.

Sort of pre-emptive Stockholm Syndrome implantation.

  71. So, when the inevitable response to this attack is carried out by the usual suspects in coming days, what will remain the media focus for longer, the act of terror in Martin Place, or the graffiti attacks on random Mosques?

I have good money on the former being blamed on the latter and all of us being made out to be horrible racists for many months to come…

  72. Makka

‘Do you really believe that 100% of muslims agree with such actions? Do you really believe 100% of muslims feel no shame?’

Not fking interested. And in the face of what is happening, entirely irrelevant.

I don’t give a fuck whether they do or don’t, it’s a bullshit point, part of the de-nutting of the West. The so-called moderate muslim either exists and is completely ineffective in containing the active jihadists or the moderate muslim doesn’t exist and all we are seeing are different methods of Islamic propagation.

  75. Mr Rusty

Buildings (including mine 2 blocks from the problem) are in lockdown.

So are buildings 20km away. Overreaction is an understatement.

“There are far more firearms in legal private ownership in Australia in 2014 than 1996.

Virtually all of them would be of little use in a combat situation, which is really the whole point of having them isn’t it? As opposed to the SLR’s, AR15’s and SKS’s that they “replaced”.

  78. Cold-Hands

It should see an end to Wily Ali being the go to pet for the ABC.

As IT has already noted, now he’s co-host of Ten’s The Project.

  79. Oh come on

Pay attention, deeply mediocre troll Belfry – this is how it’s done:

Anyone else thinking that this is a dry run to see where the likely concentration points for workers in the city? Lay a few secondary devices and let the mayhem begin.

  81. calli

Hell, now we have Shorten. “We are shocked but won’t be shaken”,

    He’s ….talking….very…slowly….

ABC24 now running hard with “False Flag” and how it this is likey not an Islamic operation at all.

Lets see: the guy has a standard black jihad flag, likely because even bookshops in Lakemba aren’t silly enough to stock the ISIS flg. He has a beard. He looks Middle Eastern. He is wearing a black Hamas style headband with white Arabic writing on it.

Clearly he must be a Martian then.

(btw the police apparently don’t want the pic publicised so I’m not linking it)

You’re not dealing with geniuses here.

“There are far more firearms in legal private ownership in Australia in 2014 than 1996.
So much for the ‘disarming Australia’ meme.”

    In absolute numbers may be.
What is the current ratio PER CAPITA ?
Assuming you had one of these firearms, and you stored it according to your licence conditions , how useful would it be if this whackjob did a home invasion on your place instead of confusing Max Brenner & Lindt ?
How many concealed/open carry licences have been issued ?

Now talk to me about being disarmed.

  91. Zatara

    Crikey

“..the estimated number of firearms at the time of the Port Arthur massacre was 3.2 million. Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows the number of guns per 100 people in 1996 would have been 17.3, based on the 3.2 million figure. Today that number is estimated at 13.9 guns per 100 people, making the number of guns per capita significantly less than it was in 1996. (Australia’s population has grown by more than 4.4 million since 1996.)”

If you are going to try to use numbers at least use ones that reflect reality.

    Not back to the topic….

Don’t know who said that but if you mean – Are all muslims in sympathy with this guy’s actions, then YES!

…but only in so much as they subscribe to the teachings of the Quran.

  93. Tom

On a purely technical level, AbbottSatan was timid, rigid and unsure of himself as opposition leader. But he wasn’t a revolting, fake creep like the Aardvark.

  94. “The flag is not linked to the ISIS movement, it is more a statement of faith, of prayer…”

It is a statement of intent, and identification, this person could have flown any one of the numerous Islamic slogan flags from around the word, but, the black flag has grown to be the most potent in its symbology, because of the actions and intentions of those who’ve been flying it most recently.

The very fact that the media can not, and the politicians can not in public tell us what the intentions of the black flag wavers are is a sign that they’ve already surrendered.

    Bill Shorten:

“Australians are shocked, but we won’t be shaken. We face moments like this with resolute spirit.

A percentage would instinctively feel agrieved. Another percentage would want to hear the facts of the cast before making judgement.

If it was found the agrieved father did something which would make other men feel ashamed, a good percentage would feel ashamed.

Many would know that the consequence of such a man using violence to communicate his anger will reflect on the other fathers, and would feel anger at the man for his stupid emotive actions.

    * As I’ve pointed out before, the school of Sunni Islamic thought expressed by a text like ‘The Reliance of the Traveller’ , which advocates an Islamic state which has a religious duty to wage jihad against Jews and infidels, is estimated to represent c. 75% of authoritative Sunni teaching in the ME today. His guide-dog bit her.

Anthony Lowenstein on Twitter blames Murdoch….

I didn’t realise he made it into the cafe.

  207. Alfonso, where do you get your shit about how Australia is not gun controlled? Are you a liberal party arsehole, or what? You may wish to pay attention to the provisions of Jackboot Johnnie’s gun laws, and see just how fuking difficult it is for honest people to own guns.

Lakemba & Punchbowl have unrestricted concealed carry, everybody else has police harassment.

  208. Very good performance by her.

Pfffft. True to form, takes responsibility for nothing.

Also, did she imply they’re considering the welfare of the terrorist/s? She said the welfare of everyone inside.

  209. Leigh Lowe

Are we sure they are actually hostages?

    Anyone seen Quick Change?

I haven’t seen that, but it did occur to me that there might be one visible lead, and several ‘sleepers’ among the ‘hostages’.

  210. Zippy The Younger

Did Lee Rhiannon publicly suggest/imply Max Brenner was/should have been the target???

    Retards leading the retards

  211. Don’t worry OCO, Kooksville is only a short trip from here but I was referring to the Bill Murray movie, Quick Change, where the bank robber escapes by pretending to be a hostage.

The authorities are awake up to that one. Some of the takers of the Iranian Embassy in London tried that. The SAS just shot them dead as they jogged out in amongst the crowd.
    Must have been quite spectacular.

  212. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

Nope. There was a woman, the one in a white shirt. Grey-haired man in blue jacket was a ‘male customer’.

  213. jupes

    Token:

For the most part, at best they wring their hands but largely their inactivity just enables the Islamists.

To make absolute statements and assume about 100% of a population is the same mistake which has lead to too many of the islamic community to be isolated.

So the inactivity of ‘moderate’ Muslims enables the Islamists. But it’s a mistake to make statements about 100% of the population. You’re not making much sense here Token.

  214. cynical1

“in terrorism there are demands, and no demands have been made”.

So just what was demanded at 8.50am 911?

    “Which way to the WTC”?

The MSM doing backflips to appease.

    FMD.

  215. Tom

She’s one tough broad, and doesn’t let the baying press pack faze her.

My impression is she is an incompetent time-server who I hope doesn’t get a group of hostages killed in the next few hours.

    From Tim Blair:

UPDATE IV. Sydney man Craig Stoker inadvertently confronted the gunman immediately prior to the siege:

“He was wearing a black T-shirt with white writing on it and a headband and carrying a blue bag.

“The bag bumped into me and there was something hard in it.

“I said ‘watch where you are f***ing going’.

“He turned round and said ‘do you want me to shoot you too?’ I looked into his eyes and they were crazy,” said Mr Stoker, a father of four from Eastlakes. “I was pretty freaked out.”

The bearded man was with two others who were similarly dressed.

It is not known if the other men are also inside the Lindt Café.

Dickhead. More likely they were emboldened by learning that Pommie soldiers are no longer allowed to bang fists on desks.

  219. Leigh Lowe

I honestly don’t think gun law reform would have made much difference in this specific case. The chance of someone in that cafe having a weapon on them under pre-1998 vs post-1998 laws is about the same …. 0.00001%

  220. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

Stan Grant going to ‘lone wolf’ again.

“A hostage situation is very different”. WTF???

Now he’s saying the hostage-type situation is unusual for ‘lone wolf’ and peaceful end is hoped for.

Betting both ways – lone wolf or not lone wolf, but not IS.

  221. Favourite dumbass comment on that twitter thread linked to by lotocoti #1539692, posted on December 15, 2014 at 4:06 pm (thread is about a special edition of the Daily Telegraph being printed) … anyway my fave dumbass comment is some chick who says that being as the CBD is locked down, nobody will be able to buy the (anti-islamic headlined) newspaper anyways.

FMD, she thinks the CBD is the whole world. F.M.D.

  222. Just watching replay of Abbott speech.

Used the term “perpetrator”. Freudian slip? Why is the terrorist still alive?

  223. cynical1

Agreed, but the poor lady has Tony Abbott ears

    Better than Bill’s tits….

‘For the most part, at best they wring their hands but largely their inactivity just enables the Islamists.’

Enable, supports, approves, accepts, acknowledges…. whatever. It’s clear what team they belong to. It’s the violent hate filled one. Are they also “enabling” with donations and withholding information from anti-terrorist authorities?

  225. Fisky

I think this terrorist hostage incident would not be such a problem so long as we privatised the sidewalk along Martin Place.

    /dot

  226. “Maybe we actually have terrorists who planned to do the whole thing as ordered but when it came to it couldn’t actually do the deed, which is why there is now a hostage situation.”

Taking of hostages in a public place without means of transporting them is either a sign that this was poorly planned, that taking the hostages alive may not have been the initial intent, or that making a public statement may have been the original intent, or that they’re waiting for the point of maximum exposure before initiating the true purpose of taking the hostages.

Given that this has been a day long siege and the maximum exposure point has well and truly been reached, it may be more likely that those involved have considered the likely outcomes and have gotten cold feet, or are possibly awaiting further instruction.

  227. Leigh Lowe

I think this terrorist hostage incident would not be such a problem so long as we privatised the sidewalk along Martin Place.

… except when required for SSM protests.

“We have entered into a new realm”. But not Islamic???

” how Australia is not gun controlled?”
Try and keep track of your ravings Stevie.
Looks bad when you try the moving goal post trick. Your original claim is that Howard took away Australia’s guns…. a lie. Now your apoplexy revolves around licencing….suck it up Princess, it won’t go away and is designed to help keep unstable pieces of shit from getting a firearm. How’s the pretend “3006 Winchester” semi auto going?

  231. I honestly don’t think gun law reform would have made much difference in this specific case. The chance of someone in that cafe having a weapon on them under pre-1998 vs post-1998 laws is about the same …. 0.00001%

Indeed LL, junior & not really needed office chicks (& that ilk) is all that is out for coffee at that time. This is the most pussified & defenceless segment of society. They’d be unlikely to be armed, ever.

There is a reason this badass did not pull his stunt at a rodeo, a construction site, a western suburbs boilermaking works, the docks, & so on.

Why else would he be MIA from the Cat for a whole day?

  233. My impression is she is an incompetent time-server who I hope doesn’t get a group of hostages killed in the next few hours.

No chance. No way she’s calling the shots. Skippy is more competent. That’s Scipione and The kangaroo.

    “snap, Kae.

I like her. She’s one tough broad, and doesn’t let the baying press pack faze her.

As I said, she would be an asset in Abbott’s office, although I suspect that there is only room for one alpha female there. 🙂 “

Gees I dunno Johanna and Dear Kae – NSW isn’t known to have an especially successful breeding program for competent police ladies.

They did manage to promote one to a fairly high level a few years back but she was swiftly snapped up by Victoria as I recall, to head their Play School Police.

She did an outstanding job of putting an end to gathering statistics for no good reason, frightening all gangs away, completely wiping out effernic crime and getting the wallopers back to police basics, such as marching practice. At lezzo and p00f parades.

What makes you say that? I am genuinely curious.

She obviously couldn’t release operationally sensitive material, but did clear up a few points, like that they don’t think that there are 30 or 40 hostages. She said that they are in touch with the hostage-holder.

What did you want her to say that she didn’t, without compromising the operation?

  236. Lysander

As it gets dark they’ll need to turn some lights on in cafe.

Surely there are snipers in adjacent building looking in?

  237. Leigh Lowe

There is a reason this badass did not pull his stunt at a rodeo, a construction site, a western suburbs boilermaking works, the docks, & so on.

That is why I was at pains to point out that it wouldn’t have made any difference for this demographic.
The only one likely to be carrying at any time in the inner city is the courier who delivers coke to the hipsters at 11 am on a Friday.

  238. Tom

Just watching replay of Abbott speech.

He made that speech in front of a Christmas tree — a deliberate insult to islam.

The frightbat left will have noticed and commented on it.

  239. Alfonso, you are off to Number’s reading for comprehension school. My Winchester .3006 was not semi-automatic. I had .3006 semi-autos. I don’t have any now.
Fuckheads like you lay bleeding & gummy if they pull your type of talk around men. Stick to telling someone else that there is no gun control in Australia.

Jackboot John took my guns. With it he took my vote. My entire family’s vote, and the vote of most people I know. This was enough to get his ass voted out in 2007, and to get every conservative govt that supported him voted out before that.

Deservedly so. I don’t stand for belting piss & pickhandles out of dumbasses like yourself who are gun control deniers, or who support gun control, but I understand why it is done to such people.

    !!!

  241. cohenite

Your original claim is that Howard took away Australia’s guns…. a lie.

I don’t understand that; Howard took away all semi’s and revolvers with barrels less than 100ml or about 4″, all semi rifles and semi-auto shotguns and pump action shotguns, to name a few.

  242. or are possibly awaiting further instruction.

Surely they’d block mobile access around the site? Oh, wait…..

  243. notafan

The flag is one of the ones that is used by Islamic State, a simple check on google images confirms that.
If the witness is correct then it appears that there are three ‘lone wolves’ acting together.
Though I am really sick of the ‘lone wolf’ BS, these are just more jihadists answering the call.

  244. rebel with cause

There is a reason this badass did not pull his stunt at a rodeo, a construction site, a western suburbs boilermaking works, the docks …

That’s because three of those four options have already been shut down by the unions (or are in the process thereof), and the other, the rodeo, is due for closure any day now by the animal welfare lobby.

  245. Fred

Some of you might be surprised at just how easy it was to obtain a permit to carry a handgun in the early Eighties. Anyone who had a genuine reason to carry reasonably large amounts of cash didn’t have a problem.

  246. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

I didn’t see ‘white shirt’ myself. First report was it was a man, then a woman with a raised fist shouting a slogan, then a man (as you say), and just recently ‘definitely a woman’ says reporter.

This is a case study in how misinformation is carried; a variant of Chinese Whispers? (ooooooh racist, Chinese, must stop).

One poor man already dragged away by police for being unbecomingly unislamic in Martin Place and a chappie aged 71 years old in Scotland kept in custody overnight for calling two lezzos ‘twinks’ in private to himself in his own backyard.

Shorten in repeat now, bearing the weight of sincerity overload.

Nope – now they are confirming that the three hostages who came out were definitely MEN. (yay, Kae!)
