  1. From the party that brought you;
    – The $57 billion (that never existed) “ripped” out of hospitals and schools.
    – The $4 billion NBN that will cost $100 billion and never be completed.
    – The “four years of surpluses announced today”.
    – That $108 billion Wong chap.
    – The Mining Tax that cost more than it raised.

    comes this gem;

Shorten: Well, first of all, the Prime Minister just makes up numbers to scare people.

  2. Shorten: Well, first of all, the Prime Minister just makes up numbers to scare people.

So true. Scaring people is Tony Abbott’s raison d’etre.

In fact, on his evenings off, he dresses up in a mask and sheet, and leaps out at passers-by from behind trees. No neighbourhood is safe. He has been seen as far afield as Toowoomba (Qld), Unley Park (SA) and very occasionally Gwelup (WA).

Only a Labor government can save us from being scared to death by a middle-aged man in a mask and a sheet jumping out at us from behind a tree.

Pickles – given your recommendations for the conduct of the annual Canberra kangaroo cull – from memory I think it involved machine guns fired from the hip and bazookas – I imagine you would be at least amused by the Bulldog’s supporters. And I am not saying you would be wrong. All we need is for supporters of another western suburbs team to be similarly equipped and there could be a useful cull of NRL supporters (and I dare not suggest what other characteristic they might possess).

Here is how civil forfeiture goes down in the USA, via business insider:
    ..

In a Philadelphia suburb last year, cops seized the home of a couple who had never been charged with a crime. Their son had allegedly dealt heroin out of the house, and cops said the home could be seized because it was tied to illegal activities.

Markela and Chris Sourovelis — who owned the house — said they had no knowledge of their son’s alleged drug deals, as CNN reported. However, as unbelievable as it sounds, the Supreme Court has ruled it’s Constitutional for the government to take away your property even if you’re innocent.

Under federal and state laws known as civil forfeiture, police can seize cash or property if they suspect it’s tied to an illegal activity even if the property owner isn’t charged with a crime. On its face, this practice seems like an obvious violation of the Fifth Amendment’s stipulation that you can’t “be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

The Supreme Court has ruled otherwise. That court has issued a number of rulings upholding civil forfeiture, including one in 1996 that said seizure of an innocent person’s property didn’t violate due process. In that case, a Michigan woman named Tina Bennis fought the seizure of her car after her husband was caught having sex with a prostitute in it.

This will end very tragically. There will be blood.

    cough taxpayers dollars, cough.

  19. Arky

And here is the Australian situation at the minute:
    ..

There are two means by which the proceeds of crime can be recovered in Australia. The first method involves conviction-based recovery, which enables the recovery of assets associated with a crime after a conviction for that crime has been secured. The second method involves civil recovery, which allows the restraint and recovery of assets suspected of criminal origins without the necessity of securing a criminal conviction. The burden of proof required for civil forfeiture is lower than that of conviction-based recovery, the latter of which requires proof beyond reasonable doubt.

    ..
The discussion on the radio this morning was around replacing that lower burden of proof, with a reversal of the burden of proof.
In other words, you could be walking down the street, police stop you and see you have $2000 poking out your top pocket. They state they believe it is the proceeds of crime. Take it. You now have to apply for it back and prove it was not the proceeds of crime.

Quite so, Jupes. The Get Bronnie campaign is a fake jihad because THEY ALL steal other people’s money, especially the slimey scum who are trying to flush their own theft down the memory hole. The Goodes You’re Waaaaaaaycist Because Shutup campaign is about the left’s ironclad control of our institutions and their distress that they still can’t control the minds of the proletariat.

Fairly run of the mill stuff at the TURC this morning. I am wondering when the Canberra thugs, so often mentioned in dispatches, might be brought forward. I have a fascination for well honed lies especially those that can be sustained at length, so as to snuff out the last scintilla of truth. It’s something I could never master.

TURC feed has completely collapsed. Just when it was getting interesting!

Down, up and all over the place.

At one stage, after they broke for smoko, two different pages I had open started up again from two previous times, now it’s past 11:45 and I don’t know if they’re late coming back, or if it’s lagging by heaps.

Again, I must say all the other hot, Union/Labor, prisoners and free villains, news happening in Victoria, seems to be why they waved The Religion of Aussie Rules around; so many pigs charging around on their hind legs, have to keep the public’s eyes off the filthy Underbelly, or ….

  28. Adam ‘Sharpton’ Goodes has just released the following statement regarding the crowd booing at games;

“I have a Dreamtime when one day a black man and a white man will be able to live together in the same body and hold this self-identity to be true; that all equality is created by the state. I have a Dreamtime that one day the true creed will be enshrined; ‘From each according to his whiteness, to each according to their self-appointed victim status.’ I have a Dreamtime that one day I will not be judged by the content of my character but by the colour of my skin.
This awful noise is a dodgy do, it is racism, day-in day-out, I will not be booed by this crowd, not now, not ever. I know what racism looks like, I’ve seen it up close, in Row A seat 14. I was offended when that girl called me names. I was offended when I was made Australian of the Year, Australia isn’t even a real country, it’s a whitey name. I was offended when I won two Brownlow medals, I mean “brown” and “low”, how racist can you get! And when these fans look at the stopwatch because a nignog has played for too long I am offended. I celebrate my diversity, even though I never went to one because they discriminate against the blackfella, and I love myself – I am Ingenious and youse all better respect that. If you want to see what that looks like, just have look at the reflection in the billabong, just be careful not to fall in because there’s a sooky ape living in there that I don’t Recognise.”

The information available on asset seizures in Australia is far from complete and far from up to date, but it must total in the billion plus:
    ..

The total assets seized in NSW in the 16 years to 2010-11 was $254 million. The sum of federal and all other states combined was $369 million, one and a half times the New South Wales figure.

In 1997-98 and from 1999-00 to 2004-05, the value of confiscated assets in New South Wales did exceed the rest of Australia combined, however this was before all states had introduced civil recovery.

Since 2006, when all states except Tasmania have had civil recovery legislation, the picture has been different. In each of the six years to 2010-11, NSW collected less than the rest of Australia.

For those six years combined, NSW collected $151 million. The rest of Australia collected $278 million.

Mr O’Farrell’s claim – that NSW collects more proceeds of crime than all the other states and the federal government combined – does not include territories.

The institute has no figures for the Northern Territory.

Even if the ACT’s total seizure of $4 million is removed from the equation, the total for the rest of Australia for the six years to 2010-11 is $274 million.

    Recent data

Fact Check also looked for more recent figures than provided by the institute.

The NSW Crime Commission, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and Victoria’s Office of Public Prosecutions have published their proceeds of crime figures for 2011-12 and 2012-13.

In 2011-12, NSW takings of $14 million were less than a third of the Commonwealth figure of $46 million and less than Victoria’s $20 million.

The following year, NSW recovered $20 million while the Commonwealth collected $10 million and Victoria $14 million.

The combination of Victoria and the Commonwealth alone amounted to more than NSW.

Punter is copping the same treatment on the back pages over Haddin too. Great stuff.

  31. Way too overt and it will only backfire. It has to be a form of subtle disapproval that will drive him nuts and force the AFL into a blustering totalitarian response that effectively fans MUST approve of Goodes or else.

The booing is working, Fisky. Don’t change horses midstream.
But my two bobs worth is that the community is showing the AFL that it disapproves of them disapproving of us when the AFL sides with a dickhead who monstered a kid who behaved like a kid. The whole thing was a publicity stunt that got way out of hand and is now destroying careers.

Northern Territory police will soon be able to declare major highways “drug transit routes” and search cars at random in an effort to slow the interstate flow of drugs, the government says….

If you don’t like what someone is saying or doing in public you should by all means let them know. I have done so a number of times.

Asian girl comes up to the door and taps on it.
Driver looks straight ahead and ignores it. Girl knocks again. Driver looks at her, looks straight ahead. Does not open door.

Jones also reminded his listeners about the “Black Steam Train’s” comments on Goodes, including the wonderful summary:

Was all the hysteria worth it?
It was a 13 year old girl. A child. Someone who is entitled to privacy, and to the childhood right of making mistakes and behaving poorly at times without the entire country knowing their name, transgression, and labelling them as anything based on a few moments of their behaviour. No name she called anybody justifies the treatment she received. Those involved in the public shaming of this girl did not take a stand against racism, they frightened a child repeatedly, and made judgements about her family in public.

    Yeah nah. From her article:

  69. Steyn on Hannity last night: Clumps, Lies and Videotape:

And, putting aside whether one is “pro-life” or “pro-choice”, the nature of the abortions in those other countries is different: again, as I told Sean, in France abortion is legal up to 12 weeks; Italy, 13 weeks; Norway, 18 weeks, but it requires the approval of a government commission. Nowhere else in the western world takes 39-week-old “fetuses”, delivers them sufficiently to preserve the commercially valuable parts and then crushes the non-sellable parts in order to preserve a technical denial of infanticide. That is a uniquely American evil, and Americans should be utterly ashamed of it. American liberals ought to understand that in far more left-wing societies (Scandinavia, the Netherlands, France) they do not do this – because it’s not a left/right thing, it’s a good/bad thing, and Planned Parenthood’s abortion-industrial complex is on the wrong side of that divide.

The videos are devastating to the central evasion of American abortion advocates: Why, they’re not like the rubes; they know the difference between a human being – and a zygote, “a clump of cells”, or “a pile of goop”, in the words of the sitcom actor Lucas Neff. Of course, if the kid were merely a zygote, a clump of cells or a pile of goop, you would not be able to operate a lucrative business selling the brain, lungs, liver, heart, etc, because a zygote, clump of cells or pile of goop does not have any of those things. In that sense, “Dr” Nucatola’s breezy laundry list of what she’s able to cannibalize for parts gets to the heart of the lie American abortionists tell.

The only pile of goop in this debate is Lucas Neff, a very characteristic exemplar of contemporary depravity and stupidity.

    Umm… yeah, nah.
Daily Mail says the yank dentist paid for a local to lure the lion out of Wankie National Park, then stalked it for 40 hours before shooting it & taking the trophy.

    Personal philosophical opinions on trophy hunting of big game aside, the issue seems to be twofold;
The Lion was lured out of a National Park (illegal, immoral)
The land where the lion was shot does not have a tag or licence to have a lion shot on it.

In addition to having to skip Zimbabwe in disguise & on foot, sans his expensive trophy, the dentist may be experiencing some reputational fallout in the usa. His practice may as well shut up shop & go away for a month or so, leaving a few butch (& armed) security guards on 24-hr patrol to ensure the place isn’t burnt down. Family Court murders prime suspect Leonard Warwick arrested
    AAP JULY 29, 2015 12:34PM

A man has been arrested in Sydney’s southwest over a string of unsolved shootings and bombings that became known as the Family Law Court murders.

Detectives arrested Leonard John Warwick, 68, in Campbelltown on Wednesday morning in connection with the crimes committed three decades ago.

The former firefighter, a prime suspect in the murders, is being questioned at Narellan police station.

It comes more than three decades after a series of bombings and shootings, including targeting judges and the Family Law Court in Parramatta, played out.

In 2012, homicide squad detectives began investigating the series of attacks between 1980 and 1985.

Justice David Opas was shot dead at his Sydney home in June 1980.

In the same year, a man was shot dead at his Revesby home.

Four years later, a bomb blew apart the home of Justice Richard Gee but noone was injured.

In the same year a bomb detonated at Justice Ray Watson’s home, killing his wife Pearl.

Also in 1984, a bomb went off at the Family Law Court in Parramatta, but no one was injured.

The following year, a bomb was found under the bonnet of a car at Northmead and a bomb explosion at a Jehovah’s Witnesses church in Casulah, Sydney, killed one worshipper and seiruosly wounded scores of others.

The unsolved homicide unit has been working on the case. Police will hold a press conference on the arrest this afternoon.

Report I read said they lured the lion out of the park at night and then Palmer tried to shoot him with a bow. Only ended up wounding him. They then spent 40 hours tracking him and he was killed with a gun (not clear if this was by Palmer or one of his guides). They then found he had a collar and tried to destroy that before beheading and skinning the lion.

The 40 hours tracking seems consistent with a missed night kill. Probably wouldn’t be able to track at night so had to come back at first light and therefore lost a lot of time. Otherwise why the need to track the lion for 40 hours if he is following behind your car out of the park?

Bernardi doing very well at the NPC debate.

On the few occasions that I have watched or listened to Senator Bernardi, I have been very impressed. He coped with a hostile Wong, audience and questions and handled the whole thing extremely well.

But Fisky’s right. Wong said herself that if they lose today they’ll just keep fighting and pushing to get what they want. I thought the question one guy asked about a hypothetical Australia in a hundred years still holding on to traditional marriage showed just how much the ssmirage people have dominated the debate to make people think that it’s inevitable. And even worse, to think such an inevitable outcome could possibly be seen as ‘progress’.

Here’s an inevitable back at them: Even if they win today, somewhere down the historical corridor our offspring will remember this period of history as a time of anti-scientific, anti-rational, anti-reasonable madness and they’ll be embarrassed that we were their forebears. Especially as they will know what cultural, social and scientific wealth we were so willing to throw away.

  135. But Fisky’s right. Wong said herself that if they lose today they’ll just keep fighting and pushing to get what they want.

No, Fisky is only right insofar as they will persevere despite any setbacks, but why shouldn’t we also? It’s faithless to do otherwise.

  137. Fisky

No, Fisky is only right insofar as they will persevere despite any setbacks, but why shouldn’t we also? It’s faithless to do otherwise.

You can fight as much as you like. But the SSM side only need to win once, whereas you need to win always. There is zero prospect of repealing SSM once legislated, so it’s one of those “unfair” issues with a heavily tilted playing field.

(It’s a bit like privatisation in the UK – the Labour knew once it lost that fight that it would never come up with the money to renationalise hundreds of billions of assets).

Outraged women have swarmed social media to protest after a mob of females caused serious injuries after beating a woman for wearing a bikini.

Breitbart News reports the attack took place Wednesday [Ed: last week] at a public park — Parc Leo-Lagrange — in Reims, France.

In a burst of outrage reminiscent of the #JeSuisCharlie movement following the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack, many took to Twitter to post photos of bikini-wearing women using the hashtag #jeportemonmaillotauParcLeo.

[Ed: given the STUNNING Success of the #JeSuisCharlie campaign, expect this one to go…. uummm…]

The Daily Mail reports the 16- to 24-year-olds were from a nearby housing project with “large Muslim populations” and picked a fight with their 21-year-old victim by stating:

    “Get dressed, it’s not summer.”

[Ed: Ah, actually…. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere started on June 1st… Just sayin’…]

The police say the attack could have been a gang rivalry issue.

    [Ed: “#Nothing ToDoWithIslam”, amirite guys?]

While police can’t confirm the attack was religiously motivated, news reports have identified the three adults arrested for the attack:

“[T]he eldest three – named in French newspapers as Ines Nouri, Zohra Karim and Hadoune Tadjouri.

The 16-year-old and 17-year-old involved in the attack remain anonymous.”

[Ed: Good old-fashioned traditional French names those. Not at all like those you might find in a region, say between Europe and Asia, populated by members of one particular notoriously intolerant religion…]

But the Mayor of Reims is urging people not to jump to conclusions about the motivation for the attack, according to UK Independent:

“We have to be very careful not to jump to conclusions. All the same, I can understand why people have assumed that this attack had religious motives. If that turns out to be the case, it is a very serious incident.”

The victim was so badly hurt she hasn’t been able to return to work.

But, obviously, nothing like that could ever happen here if we increase the “refugee” intake…

    … right?

Wouldn’t that one fit with Round 21 (Gay Pride), and also include the rest of the ‘sexual identity’ alphabet?

  145. Fisky

    What a load of crap.

It lost 1/3 of its price from the peak. Myer has fallen 50% over a year.

OK, well you can address your concern to the well-known MyerBugs who have been predicting doom unless everyone buys Myer stocks.

In the meantime, everyone is laughing at Schiff.

  146. srr

It will be interesting to see how it plays out …

Daniel Andrews rejects Adem Somyurek’s demands as ‘nonsense’

He was responding to questions on Mr Somyurek’s claims the government is in the thrall of the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) boss Michael Donovan.

Mr Somyurek, who was forced to quit yesterday over bullying claims from a former staffer that he denies, said Mr Andrews needed to get rid of his SDA-aligned chief of staff Johnny McLindon and Deputy Premier James Merlino, also an ally of Mr Donovan.

With factional civil war erupting within the first-term Victorian Labor government, Mr Somyurek remains furious over his forced resignation from the ministry and allies of the former minister are eyeing retribution against Mr Merlino and Mr McLindon.

Mr Andrews dismissed suggestions that Mr Merlino’s position would be subject to a spill motion when Caucus meets on Friday to elect Mr Somyurek’s replacement.

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/state-politics/daniel-andrews-rejects-adem-somyureks-demands-as-nonsense/story-e6frgczx-1227461541118

… when you also consider this old news, that’s news again … both in the State and Federally …

    Feb. 2012

Merlino has been in Victorian politics for 10 years, including four as a sports minister in the Bracks/Brumby governments, and a few weeks as police minister …

… Merlino, the 39-year-old Monbulk MP, was elected, unopposed, to replace Labor veteran and former attorney-general Rob Hulls, who quit after a health scare. …

… Merlino, Labor’s police spokesman, is yet to be tested, but has scored some decent hits against Deputy Premier Peter Ryan on issues such as the crisis at Victoria Police, or the undermining of former chief commissioner Simon Overland.

A former councillor and union official, Merlino is a social conservative from the Catholic-affiliated Shop Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association. When Andrews was one of the Brumby government’s key supporters of decriminalising abortion a few years ago, Merlino was one of Labor’s most outspoken critics.

Andrews is from Labor’s Socialist Left …

Boiled down, Labor’s deputy leadership appointment was part of a move to bring Merlino’s ”shoppies” union back into an alliance with Labor Unity, the dominant Right faction led by federal ministers Bill Shorten and Stephen Conroy. The groups fell out years ago. In recent months, they have sought to heal the rift ”in the interest of stability”.

[Ed: Ah, actually…. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere started on June 1st… Just sayin’…]

    It’s the 21st

Australia starts seasons on the 1st of the month for some reason to do with sailing from Britain.

Our seasons also should really start on the 21st.

  150. Slayer of Memes

    It’s the 21st

I stand corrected… but it’s still 1 full month before the “Get dressed, it’s not summer” attack happened..

Unless, of course, the perpetrator’s calendar is 1500 years out of date…

    Ines

is a popular girls name in France, it is actually Spanish in origin iirc. My daughter au paired an Ines for an upper middle class family there.
I’m not surprised by the attack though I am surprised it is being reported. It might well have been a secularised muslim victim .
The msm has not reported attacks on Christians or churches in France even though they have been a problem for a long time.

I just read the comments section on one of the Bolta posts.
People hit each other over there with wet lettuce leaves.
Not a patch on arguments at the Cat.
& the conversations here are more gentlemanly too.

  153. Fisky

I just read the comments section on one of the Bolta posts.

It’s absolutely pathetic. The moderators seem to have two or three far Left/Islamist trolls and the only opposition they face is from dribbling morons who are happy to wait 3 hours for each comment to be posted.

Bolt’s Leftist house trolls would be thumped beyond recognition if they ever strayed over here.

the SSM side only need to win once, whereas you need to win always.

Ah, the simple comfort atheists take from their faith.

Ellen, thank you. This is the point to keep making –

And remember, that historical corridor also goes back in time and is here now.

There already are and have long been, survivors of homosexual ‘parents’ who keep trying to warn people of the ills of that culture, but even many of those on the side of sanity, have been convinced that it would somehow be counter productive to give them a public platform.

One last word (well sentence) on Adam Goodes and #BooGate:

I’m not the one who needed a heart transplant after a stoush. That was you. Stop egging for another stoush as I don’t think they will be able to sew you a replacement.

That’s a remarkably abstract comment, even for someone like you, JC. Are you back on the Mexican Marching Powder again?

  157. notafan, Inés (or, in French, Inès) is the Spanish form of Agnes.

The Green-Left Radio Hour (lunchtime edition) formerly known as The World Today provides some much needed balance on Adam Goodes, with the impeccable Eleanor Hall introduction,

Many in the sporting world are reluctant to label the ‘booing’ he’s been copping as racist, including the League’s CEO Gillon McLaughlan.

Others scoff though that’s exactly what it is, and that Australians are just too scared to admit it.

Everyone gets a guernsey – captain’s pick Nova Peris, Rebecca “We are racist” Wilson, the Parrot and even the CFMEU hand puppet chimes in. Those interested might want to try and pick up all the mistakes and misrepresentations as an exercise.

People of Earth your attention please.

This is Prostectic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planet Council.

As you no doubt will be aware, the plans for the development of the outlying regions of the western spiral arm of the galaxy require the building of a hyperspace express route through your star system and, regrettably, your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your Earth minutes.

    Thank you very much.

Chechnya is an automomous region with its own government . It has it’s own laws but it it not a full sharia state like Islamic State or even Saudi Arabia.

Chechnya does not have full sharia law

No, the complaint is that delusional morons hold up Putin as sort of crusader against Islam and the left.

Sorry Nota but that is a good laugh. Kadyrov the younger is allowed to rule by Vlad so long as he keeps the press under his thumb and Chechnya out of the headlines. Beyond that he has a free hand. He understands that if he fails to do his job the little green men will return.

Why do you think there is a battalion of Chechens fighting for Ukraine at the moment. And thousands in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan? Its not because they are disgusted by the soft and fluffy Kadyrov regime, oh no.
