Malaysia

I’m off to Malaysia for a few days – making the world safe for free trade and multinational corporations. Posting may be light or heavy – all the regular open forums will be opening up as usual (at somewhat random times).

Time taken to release comments from moderation and the spaminator will be variable – it may be quick but is very likely to be slow.

When I feel the need to strip down to my bathers because its second nature to me and I’m a life saver and all, I will be wearing a very tasteful plain red mankini.

Can I be Acting Lord Chief Justice in your absence?

Just don’t mention ‘Allah’ as it is no longer lawful for non Muslims to utter it’s name in Malaysia.

A well considered response – enjoy your trip.

Other then telling us you’re off the Malaysia (have a good trip), isn’t the rest of the post kind of redundant in a sense? Just saying.

I’ve been visiting Malaysia on business, and on holiday for twenty years. The version of Islam practiced in that country was originally fairly relaxed – I know they are becoming more ‘fundamentalist” but that’s the first I’ve heard of that…

JC – you would think so. Yet whenever I’m away there is always some dick who complains that I slow in releading comments from moderation.

Me too. I’ve been travelling to Malaysia since 1995. In KL there are few problems like that. One of my colleagues married a lady from Kelantan and needed to take wedding certificate with him when he went to visit the rellies and held her hand public.

I will be visiting with some of my liberatarian Muslim friends.

1995 was the first time I went there. There was a sign in the grog section of the local supermarket that “alcohol was not to be sold to Muslims.” We had a cheerful guide, who was always willing to help out Westerners who wanted to learn more about Malaysia.

“How do they tell who’s a Muslim?”

“That’s easy. If you are Malaysian, you are Muslim. I’m a Muslim, he’s a Muslim, she’s a Muslim.

On the other hand, if you want a few beers at night, that’s between you and your God.”

  15. Malaysia is worth visiting just to get out into the countryside & seeing all the Merc 1313’s with cut down cabin, rebuilt partly out of sawn timber and looking for all the world like something out of the Flintstones, carrying logs, complete with shirtless barefoot driver who’d weigh near 50kg.

Ah, Malaysia 1978. Now those were the days.

  17. Ah, the seventies in Kl and KK, As I now vaguely recall.
Long Hair, Flares, Safari Suits, Deep Purple and Lead Zepplin on cassette with Pompous Dicks at the Dog and Mollies to beat at scrabble or cards.
    Those were the days indeed!

    Again, ask them about hotdogs.
I expect an article detailing the costs of compliance for business, the impact on sales, as well as a summary of the general public’s mood.

  19. Sinclair Davidson

    Again, ask them about hotdogs.

being too subtle here. I have seen some magnificent looking hot dogs (hot dawgs) at a local fast food chain. When the will power lapses I’ll be having one or three.

Hot dogs are magnificent fare from Johnny Rockets on Royal Caribbean cruise liners. Fully American sized – you can have them with your choice of sauce or mustard – and as many jalapenos as you could ever wish for. Deelicious. 🙂
