Morocco ‘bans the sale and production of the burka’

Morocco has banned the sale, production and import of the burka, according to local reports.

Letters announcing the ban were sent out on Monday, giving businesses 48 hours to get rid of their stock, the reports stated.

There was no official announcement from the government, but unnamed officials told outlets the decision was made due to “security concerns”.

So far Morocco has avoided the worst of the Salafist revolution, but that may be about to change.

Trump, more WINNING!!! You think you are sick of WINNING now, but you arent, not really, and we will keep WINNING until there is no more WIN left.

U2 delay new album release after Trump win: ‘The world is a different place’
Post-US election, the band are taking time to reconsider their already completed new LP, which they might alter in light of the result

The group have made their views on Trump known. At the iHeartRadio music festival in September, Bono used lyrics from their song Desire to make pointed remarks about the then presidential nominee. He also told a virtual Trump, “You’re fired,” at an October benefit concert.

Speaking to Charlie Rose in September, Bono said that Trump is “trying to hijack the idea of America”.

The Edge described Trump’s win as a “pendulum [that] has suddenly just taken a huge swing in the other direction”. The group are gearing up for a tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their album The Joshua Tree, and he said that things have somewhat come full circle since the album’s release during the Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher era of transatlantic politics.

“It was a period when there was a lot of unrest,” he said. “It feels like we’re right back there in a way.” The Edge also suggested that the group might write additional songs as they reconsider if the album’s content is “really was what we wanted to say”.

At least 70 Mexicans claimed refugee status in Canada the first month after the federal government lifted a visa requirement for travellers from Mexico.

The one-month figure brings the total number of Mexican refugee claims for 2016 to 248, compared to 111 in 2015, according to figures provided by the Canada Border Services Agency.

The Associated Press [email protected] 8 minutes ago
Journalist Clare Hollingworth, who broke news of WWII, dies at age 105.
    http://apne.ws/2igQFEh
As German tanks encircled the Polish town of Katowice, rookie British newspaper reporter Clare Hollingworth picked up the phone and dialed the British Embassy. An official there didn’t believe what she told him, so she dangled the phone out the window so he could hear the ominous rumbling for himself.

“Listen!” she implored. “Can’t you hear it?”

Hollingworth was 27, and just a week into her job with the Daily Telegraph of London. She had the scoop of a lifetime: World War II had just begun.

She hung up and called the Telegraph’s Warsaw correspondent, who dictated to London her story about the Nazi invasion of southern Poland in late August 1939.

The shock-horror “confidential” golden-shower memo, as reproduced at Zero Hedge:

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-01-10/here-full-35-page-report-alleging-trump-was-cultivated-supported-and-assisted-russia

Obama stayed at the hotel with his family in July, 2009.

Four years later — June, 2013 — Trump was in Moscow with the Miss Universe gals and it seems this is when he chose to “defile” the sacred mattress on which the sainted One laid his head.

This story smells worse than the memo claiming George W. was a draft-dodger, the one written on a typewriter that didn’t exist at the alleged time and, consequently sank the careers of Dan rather and Mary Mapes.

    Something to check:

Did Obama actually stay in the hotel where said depraved acts are said to have taken place? Isn’t it customary for presidents to stay at the US Embassy, not least for security reasons?

Cat Fast Factcheck: Status – True

JULY 2009 Ritz-Carlton Moscow Moscow, Russia Bucking the tradition of the two presidents before him (who both stayed in the Marriott Grand Hotel), President Obama chose to stay at the then two-year-old Ritz-Carlton, Moscow when he traveled to Russia to meet with President Dimitry Medvedev. According to USA Today’s Hotel Check-in, the hotel installed a big chocolate statue of an American eagle and Russian bear for his arrival.

Adds a whole new level to ‘would you like a complimentary chocolate ?’

According to the New York Times ( of all sources ! ) the Great Unifier may have done just about as good a job as Shrillery in terms of Russian diplomacy:

The decision to brush off the Russians on one of his two nights here miffed some in the Moscow government who did not understand why he would not devote the scarce time to his hosts. Mr. Obama had dinner with President Dmitri A. Medvedev on Monday and lunch with him on Tuesday. But with the second dinner slot unavailable, he ended up having breakfast Tuesday with Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin, a known night owl not given to American-style early morning business meals.

Probs not the smartest thing in the world to assume Putin as then-PM was a JV player.

    The Spike (novel)
    From Wikipedia
The Spike is a 1980 spy thriller novel by Arnaud de Borchgrave and Robert Moss (New York: Crown Publishers, 1980). Drawing on de Borchgrave’s experience as a jet-setting Newsweek journalist and conservative Washington insider, it tells the story of a radical ’60s journalist, Bob Hockney, who stumbles upon a Soviet plot for global supremacy by 1985. When he tries to expose the web of blackmail, sex and espionage, he’s hamstrung by his editors’ liberal media bias.
In the news world, to “spike” a story means to cancel its publication. De Borchgrave and Moss envision a scenario in which the KGB exploits the attitudes of the unsuspecting Western media, which was allegedly more interested in unmasking CIA agents than stopping the Soviets, threatening to thwart Hockney’s big scoop.
The best-selling book was marketed not only as a spy thriller but an expose of real-life Washington. Time called the book a roman à clef for its fictionalized versions of real people and organizations, including Zbigniew Brzezinski and the radical left-wing magazine Ramparts.
In a 1980 interview with the New York Times, de Borchgrave mentions that he came up with the idea for a novel after he and his wife had to hide in the English countryside, after anonymous threats were made in response to a Newsweek article he wrote that named some of the terrorists behind the 1972 Munich massacre.
The authors’ 1983 follow-up, Monimbo, envisioned Miami race rioters as the pawns of Nicaraguan and Cuban communists.

    David Horowitz
    From Wikipedia
Horowitz was raised by parents who were members of the Communist Party USA during the Great Depression; they gave up their membership in 1956 after learning of Joseph Stalin’s purges and abuses. From 1956–75, Horowitz was an outspoken adherent of the New Left. He later rejected leftism completely and has since become a leading proponent of conservatism. Horowitz has recounted his ideological journey in a series of retrospective books, culminating with his 1996 memoir Radical Son: A Generational Odyssey.

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-01-11/female-act-public-servants'-pay-packets-$3,200-less-than-men/8174978?WT.ac=statenews_act

back in the ‘oughties I was involved, as a consultant, in an investigation into a ‘gender gap’ in the ACT Public Service. We found no evidence whatever that employees doing the same job at the same level over the same hours were paid differently on the basis of gender. Such discrimination would have been unlawful under the ACT PS umbrella enterprise agreement – the same basic framework that is currently in place – as well as administratively difficult to implement via the payroll system. Their ABC’s reference to ‘pay-packets’ is therefor mendacious.

Collectively males earned more than females but a major factor in the ACT PS – apart from the typical differences in career/family choices and aspirations – was that males tended to predominate in those areas – fires, ambos, transport – that had, some would say, utopian overtime and penalty rates and conditions.

So if there is a gender pay gap in the ACTPS, blame the TWU.

  100. It hit 36C here today, and the local media are going spare. Drink plenty of fluids! Stay out of the sun! Check up on elderly rellies and friends! OMG, glowbull warmening, we’re all gonna die!

Firstly, anyone who doesn’t have the sense to drink fluids and stay out of the sun deserves to die. Since they apparently keep having to remind themselves of it, that includes several in the MSM.

Secondly, in the years I have lived here, it has frequently hit 39-40C in January.

Just as well there are no real news stories to follow up around here.

35 degrees here right now. A warm day in a – so far – unusually mild summer.

Aaand – former Conservative MP Louise Mensch goes there

So here @MichaelCohen212 denies the location was Prague, which the document already says is uncertain –

    AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE

Just like I said – Trump’s lawyer’s Tweet saying he had never been to Prague would be proof positive that Trump is up to his eyeballs in a Russkie conspiracy !

    It’s a Tweet – not an affidavit.

Barack Obama has delivered … memorable speeches, which captured hearts and minds around the world.

The other night Obama was on tv snarking that “Being President isn’t the same as running a family business”. Oh to have been there and asked him “Please Mr. President, tell us everything you know about running a business, family or otherwise.”

And C.L., if you’re out there, did you enjoy the media event the other day when the AFP were displaying their big haul of pseudoephedrine? They had two scary-looking tactical ops cops in full weaponry and ski masks, one of whom was a girl. Even with the ski mask she looked more suited to delivering weather reports or spinning a TV competition barrel.

You’re right Philippa. Perth seems to get a typical “hot” summer day or two but it cools down quickly.

Is it true that the Water Corp had to stop using last years ad? They were running last year’s summer water saving ad and it claimed that we’d had the hottest spring on record (or one of). It was probably BS last year, but this year it was definitely and obviously wrong – it was a record cold spring, with especially September standing out on the stats.

They were running it regularly and I haven’t seen it for a while. I’d like to find whoever got onto them and shake their hand.

  109. Happy New Year everyone – my first post on why we should be optimistic for the upcoming year is out:

Rita Panahi: Meryl Streep inside toxic Hollywood cloud

HOLLYWOOD’S moral compass has always been askew. That tends to happen when you mix enormous incomes, unchecked adulation and rampant drug abuse with a smug world view born of privilege.

The same folk who celebrate a child rapist like director Roman Polanski are sickened that the American people dared elect a candidate they don’t like.

Meryl Streep had no qualms about giving Polanski — who drugged and anally raped a 13-year-old and then fled to France to escape justice — a standing ovation when he won an Oscar for The Pianist in 2003, and has spoken of her sorrow for his plight.
Their prolonged hissy fit shows only how entitled and out of touch they are with the mainstream, both Republican and Democrat, who have accepted the election result.

It must be hard not to be smug and petulant when you’re acclaimed as a rare genius for regurgitating someone else’s words.

The same Hollywood community that celebrates child rapists and wife bashers feels entitled to tell Americans how to think and who to vote for.

There’s an Argentinian expression, “vivir en una nube de pedo”. The literal translation is
“to live on a cloud made of farts” but it’s used to describe those who are out of touch with reality.

I can think of no finer description for the Hollywood elite.

I know, I know. But I never went there first. A trader blog is reporting that Zerohedge has the goods on the waterworks story.

It was discussed on 4Chan back in November to eventually run with this story and have the MSM buy into it. It’s a complete hoax conceived at 4Chan.

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-01-10/4chan-claims-have-fabricated-anti-trump-report-hoax.

In a story that is getting more surreal by the minute, a post on 4Chan now claims that the infamous “golden showers” scene in the unverified 35-page dossier, allegedly compiled by a British intelligence officer, was a hoax and fabricated by a member of the chatboard as “fanfiction”, then sent to Rick Wilson, who proceeded to send it to the CIA, which then put it in their official classified intelligence report on the election.

Here is 4Chan’s explanation of how the story came to light:

    >/pol/acks mailed fanfiction to anti-trump pundit Rick Wilson about trump making people piss on a bed obama slept in

    >he thought it was real and gave it to the CIA

    >the central intelligence agency of the united states of america put this in their official classified intelligence report on russian involvement in the election

    >donald trump and obama have both read this pol/acks fanfiction

    >the cia has concluded that the russian plans to blackmail trump with this story we made up

just let that sink in what we have become.

Unfortunate for saying this by referencing Zerohedge, but they are right. If the CIA bought into this fabricated story, the Intel community is worthless.

While this entire incident is laughable, and even more so if the 4Chan account is accurate, what makes it quite tragic, is that it is no longer possible to dismiss the “fake news” angle to an intelligence report. And if the CIA is compromised, what is left for “news outlets” like CNN and BuzzFeed, which were all too eager to run with the story without any attempt at verification?

  132. Top Ender

    Meanwhile:

A former Navy submariner sent to prison for photographing his ship’s classified engine compartments has filed a presidential clemency request, arguing that President-elect Donald Trump should realize the sailor was a “scapegoat” amid the FBI probe into Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified material.

The paperwork was filed Monday with the Justice Department’s office of the pardon attorney, which now will conduct an investigation.

The case of former Machinist Mate 1st Class Kristian Saucier has become a cause celebre for conservatives. They watched the young sailor go to prison for carelessness with classified information while Mrs. Clinton avoided any punishment from the Obama administration.

He apparently took six photos inside a classified space on board his submarine, but didn’t pass them on to anyone.

You know that alien Dyson Sphere? Well it may just be a bad case of indigestion.

This May Be The Best Explanation Yet For That Mysterious ‘Alien Megastructure’

A new paper from Columbia University suggests that Tabby’s star — the celestial object voted most likely to host an alien megastructure — is acting weirdly because it recently annihilated an entire planet, and the shattered remains of that planet are now producing strange flickering effects. It’s probably the best theory we’ve heard so far.

The researchers hypothesise that a planet recently plunged into KIC 8462852. The gravitational energy produced by the collision would have boosted the star’s normal nuclear energy production, causing it to brighten rapidly and then slowly decay over time. If this idea is correct, then we happen to be observing Tabby’s star as it returns to its normal level of luminosity.

This theory may also help to explain the star’s sudden dips in light. Following the collision, portions of the planet (and possibly bits of its moon or moons) entered into eccentric orbits. Every time this debris field moves in front of the star (from our vantage point), it appears to flicker.

As for the size of the planet, the researchers say that depends on when the impact occurred. “If the planet was Jupiter-sized, then the disruption would have taken place about 1000 years ago in order to explain the rate of dimming observed today,” Metzger told Gizmodo “On the other hand, if the object was the size of the Moon, then the brightening and dimming would have taken place about a decade ago.” Metzger says a collision with a moon-like object probably wouldn’t produce the observed century-long dimming, but it could explain the dimming seen during four years of Kepler observations.

It’s still just a hypothesis, but certainly sounds plausible given the amazing number of close-in planets we’ve been finding lately.

  142. JC

It’s probably the best theory we’ve heard so far.

“Most voted?” Since when do we do science by consensus or voting? Flickering would come from debris in front and/or around any “hit” object as it says later.

Large comet, small fast comet, gravitational irregularities pushing it into a smaller planet? Dark matter?

This theory may also help to explain the star’s sudden dips in light. Following the collision, portions of the planet (and possibly bits of its moon or moons) entered into eccentric orbits. Every time this debris field moves in front of the star (from our vantage point), it appears to flicker.

As noted above, could be anything; least of which is a “popular vote.”

WASHINGTON — The chiefs of America’s intelligence agencies last week presented President Obama and President-elect Donald J. Trump with a summary of unsubstantiated reports that Russia had collected compromising and salacious personal information about Mr. Trump, two officials with knowledge of the briefing said.

The summary is based on memos generated by political operatives seeking to derail Mr. Trump’s candidacy. Details of the reports began circulating in the fall and were widely known among journalists and politicians in Washington.

The two-page summary, first reported by CNN, was presented as an appendix to the intelligence agencies’ report on Russian hacking efforts during the election, the officials said. The material was not corroborated, and The New York Times has not been able to confirm the claims. But intelligence agencies considered it so potentially explosive that they decided Mr. Obama, Mr. Trump and congressional leaders needed to be told about it and informed that the agencies were actively investigating it.

Intelligence officials were concerned that the information would leak before they informed Mr. Trump of its existence, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about it publicly.

Arguing his faith in America had been confirmed, Mr Obama said he ends his tenure inspired by America’s “boundless capacity” for reinvention, and declared: “The future should be ours.”

Yeah but it’s not because you were so hopeless. The future is overwhelmingly Republican.

But when he noted the imminence of that change and the crowd began booing, he responded: “No, no, no, no, no.” One of the nation’s great strengths, he said, “is the peaceful transfer of power from one president to the next”.

That is a true highlight. I did not expect him to say that. After all he had previously done nothing to stop the idiotic protests.

The outgoing President said he rejects discrimination against Muslim Americans, and drew cheers for saying they are “just as patriotic as we are”.

Yeah right. I don’t know the US stats, however would be surprised if it was any different to Australia where the chance of Muslim joining Islamic State is at least four times greater than them joining the ADF.

Mr Obama said Mr Biden — “the scrappy kid from Scranton who became Delaware’s favourite son” — has not only been a great Vice-President during the past eight years, but he also was an unexpected gift.

Well it’s that time of the month when all us mums start thinking about buying new shoes for ourselves because it’s back to school for the kids who don’t really need new shoes anyway, so I thought I’d just share one of my pearls of experience with the younger generation.

When I was a young Frankenjulie in Transcanberrania being home schooled by my creator, I often wondered what relevance the maths questions would have for my future career. Questions like

”There are 3000 workers and just 1 Blue Asbestos mine, if you buy one new pearl necklace for each victim of Asbestosis ..’ and ‘There are 1.2 million Timorese and just 1 gasfield left to exploit, when it’s exhausted they have no more resources forever. How many kids will die if you take 50%? Express your answer in pearls.’

And my creator would always say ‘Be patient young Frankenjulie I’m training you to do things no true human being would ever do.’ And he was right! Although I had an unconventional genesis it was no bar to joining the Young Liberals on campus and my career was guaranteed!

And I’d just like to take the opportunity to say how unfairly my very special friend Peter Dutton is being treated, Like myself, Peter had an unconventional genesis when the Gorillas revolted and took over from the Chimpanzees on the Planet of the Apes and his youthful apehood was dealt a cruel blow when Charlton Heston shot his father. But did leave him without a skerrick of empathy for humans? Of course it did, but did he ever complain about it? We are such close colleagues that he rang me up one day and and said Frankenjulie I’d like to shave your back for you and I said If you shave my back I’ll shave yours. And we’re so close that we’ve made it a regular habit. What his critics don’t know is how deeply committed Peter is to his beloved Alt Primate Movement, to which he so generously gives his time.

So children, as we all begin to think about new shoes, you may not think that those tricky math questions have any relevance for your future career. But just look at me.

I haven’t seen any discussion yet about why, if Putin hacked America in order to get Trump elected, that he should be now trying to get him impeached before his inauguration.

ABC Obummerlove is still gushing away! Now we get:

In his final speech as President of the United States, Barack Obama made a call to arms.

Mr Obama used his farewell speech not only to reflect on his achievements, but to map out a path for how Americans can succeed in the next four years and put a bitter presidential election campaign behind them.

Here are seven ways Mr Obama told Americans how to deal with the challenges of the future:

Followed by reams of adoring schlock.

There hasn’t been so much mourning since Queen Victoria’s hubby died. They really are distraught over there at the Collective.

Mr Obama used his farewell speech not only to reflect on his achievements, but to map out a path for how Americans can succeed in the next four years and put a bitter presidential election campaign behind them.

    Maybe their ABC means this:

Obama Quietly Hiring New OFA Staff to Fight Trump

Back in November, I wrote that Obama was plotting to use OFA to set the agenda.

In his post-election conference call with his OFA troops, Obama told them, “I’m giving you like a week and a half to get over it”. Then it would be time to “move forward not only to protect what we’ve accomplished, but also to see this as an opportunity”.

Obama is not a conventional politician. He’s an organizer and a campaigner at the vanguard of a radical movement that seeks to control traditional institutions, but doesn’t feel bound by them. Unlike Bill Clinton, his plans don’t begin and end with the White House. As an organizer, Obama is equipped to build bases of power outside traditional institutions. And that is exactly what he is doing.

“The network that you represent, you’re perfectly poised to do that,” Obama told his OFAers. “In other words, now is the time for some organizing.”

While the leftist rioters in the streets are garnering the most attention, the real threat comes from the network of staffers dubbed Obama Anonymous which are beginning to organize and coordinate. OFA is Obama’s equivalent of the Clinton Foundation.

  184. Infy, John McCain has now proven beyond doubt that he is as thick as bricks, deceitful, petty, spiteful, vengeful, complicit, naive and abundantly stupid. Funniest of all, lefties believing a neocon.

Senator John McCain passed documents to the FBI director, James Comey, last month alleging secret contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow and that Russian intelligence had personally compromising material on the president-elect himself.

The material, which has been seen by the Guardian, is a series of reports on Trump’s relationship with Moscow. They were drawn up by a former western counter-intelligence official, now working as a private consultant.

The Guardian has not been able to confirm the veracity of the documents’ contents, and the Trump team has consistently denied any hidden contacts with the Russian government.

The leak probably came from Seth Rich. The DNC IT guy that was murdered by robbers who forgot to take his wallet.

Everyone seems to have forgotten, that this dude was killed ostensibly by robbers just outside his home.

Assange claims it wasn’t the Russians while the D’rats and their media buddies do.

Meanwhile this death is still unsolved and the robbers left his wallet.

  193. So monty just got trolled by 4chan. Big dummy.

    Fail.

Meanwhile the Russians are supposed to have leaked the emails and Seth Rich’s death remains unsolved. Sure, the story is pretty big, but not the way you think. The dead DNC IT guy’s death is still unsolved. You reckon the Russians killed him too and not the D’rats?

If Assange fingers Rich, the Russian connection is over and there’s going to be a lot of finger pointing as to who would have killed Seth Rich. Personally I wouldn’t go with the future story that Trump had him bumped off because it won’t pass muster, even though you will buy into it.

The Grauniad strikes again! When they’re not claiming that the second largest electorate in NSW is about the size of Parramatta Westfield, they are coyly spreading rubbish about Trump, which they admit they have no corroboration of.

They have form in this department. In the lead-up to the current jihad on press freedom in the UK, they published lies about messages on a murdered girl’s phone, again without proof.

They simultaneously rail against their competition for being unethical and cavalier with facts, while being among the worst offenders.

It used to be that job ads for the government and the BBC were always published in the UK Guardian. I wonder if this is still the case? Leaving aside the inevitable effect on selection, their bottom line would be severely affected if that money flow was cut, and moved to newspapers that large numbers of people actually read.

That is indeed a major issue.

    WSJ

Among the allegations, contained in a set of confidential memos written by the former official, are that Mr. Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, met with Kremlin officials and discussed how to arrange cash payments to hackers working under Moscow’s direction against the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton. The FBI has found no evidence that he traveled to the Czech Republic, where the meeting allegedly took place in August of last year, officials said.

Mr. Cohen, in an interview, denied any such meeting. He said in an interview Tuesday evening that he had never been contacted by the FBI or any other U.S. agency on these issues. He said Mr. Trump has also not contacted him about them. Mr. Cohen said he previously knew about the allegations because he had been contacted about them by journalists.

Mr. Cohen said that there is “zero truth” to the idea that there has been any relationship between the Trump Organization and the Russian government or any ongoing communications during the campaign between the Trump campaign and Russian affiliates.

A Russian official who was alleged to have met with Mr. Cohen in Prague, Oleg Solodukhin, also denied any such meeting took place, calling the report “some kind of misunderstanding.”

This is fucking hilarious. The allegation is suggesting the Russians couldn’t/wouldn’t pay for the Russians hackers themselves and therefore expected the Trump organization to do so.

    Sure. Sure.

Hey Donald, we’ll help you get Hillary burned with the emails, but we can’t pay for the hacking as it wouldn’t get through the Price Waterhouse audit.

Treason has a precise meaning, monty.

“Providing aid and comfort to enemies in a time of actual/declared” war is the usual common law/civilised definition and close to/verbatim to what the US specifies in the constitution.

Trump could never even be successfully indicted by a grand jury or indicted by a competent prosecutor, let alone impeached or tried by the House and Senate.
