The weird thing about this handshake issue is that I’m sure non-Muslim multiculturalists came up with the idea and the Islamists ran with it. Muslim men are prolific handshakers – with each other and the kufar. It’s a religiously sanctioned method of greeting. You go to a Muslim event of some kind and 50+ blokes will be shaking hands with you and each other.

Double handed handshakes and plenty of kisses on the cheek. No handshakes is pure BS, I’ve only encountered it in Australia.

In school we always used to snigger at the joke about the Bee family car…

Taking the pee: SAS foil jihadi bomb attack by WEEING in fuel tank to break vehicle

An SAS unit stopped a potentially deadly ISIS truck bombing by weeing into the fuel tank to disable the vehicle and bring their targets out to kill.

Quick thinking troops chose not to take out the truck as they realised that the debris would cause civilian casualties. So four out of the eight man squad crept up to the vehicle in the dead of night and urinated in the fuel tank to make the engine stall. They did it under the nose of the sleeping terrorists who were none the wiser as they dozed nearby. Four more then topped it up with more urine and watched as the terrorists filled the truck with a ton of explosives ready to kill, The Daily Star on Sunday reported.

But as soon as the terrorists tried to pull away to carry out their mission at dawn, the truck broke down after only 200 yards. SAS troops later destroyed the vehicle by launching a missile at it.

No way to verify the story, but it’s an entertaining way to start a Monday.

ABC is really pushing climate change, presumably because the public is over it.

Queensland’s former Newman government sold off a state-owned company combating climate change despite being told in confidential briefing documents that it was a “profitable, cash flow positive and standalone entity” whose revenues were set to double.

Now just how does such a company, ‘combating climate change’, make money? I bet you are thinking ‘government subsidies’. No.

During its operation Ecofund received no government funding, with all its expenses and operating costs — including IT, lease of premises and Board fees — covered by the company’s revenue.

The article actually says a lot about the finances of the company without saying where the money was coming from, except for one or two lines:

But another former director said trading in carbon credits was not the role of government. “The carbon tax was abolished shortly after the sale and I think we were lucky to get out when we did,” she said.

So it was all a scam [not saying anything illegal was done], ripping off taxpayers via the CO2 tax.

Millions of Ukrainian peasants starved to death under brutal famine imposed by Joseph Stalin
Marea Donnelly, History Writer, The Daily Telegraph

The experiences of Ukrainian, North Caucasus and Kazakhstan peasants in the early 1930s are revisited in Canadian film Bitter Harvest, opening in Sydney on Thursday. The parents of Bitter Harvest producer Ian Ignatovich fled the Soviet Ukraine during World War II, after suffering through what Ukrainians recall as the holodomor, a compound of Ukrainian words “hood” meaning “hunger” and “mor” meaning “plague”.

Ukrainians claimed the famine was a Stalinist genocide, or “extermination by hunger”, although for decades the reality of the 1930s famine was debated in the west after New York Times Moscow reporter Walter Duranty, among others, filed contradictory reports.

When impoverished, malnourished Ukrainians began arriving in Poland in 1932, Manchester Guardian correspondent Malcolm Muggeridge left Moscow by train in early 1933 to visit the North Caucasus and Ukraine. Travelling without official permission, he observed peasants starving within sight of full granaries guarded by Soviet police.

“At a railway station early one morning, I saw a line of people with their hands tied behind them, being herded into cattle trucks at gunpoint — all so silent and mysterious and horrible in the half light, like some macabre ballet,” he wrote. At one co-operative farm, described as an “oasis of prosperity in the collectivised wilderness”, he reported peasants kneeling in the snow, begging for a crust of bread.

“Does anyone know what it costs the Australian Taxpayer to prop up the beggar (mendicant) states of South Australia and Tasmania?”

Well, one indication of the extent to which the Australian taxpayer in genera props up these two is the percentage of State revenue that’s provided by the Commonwealth through GST payments and various other grants, some tied to specific State projects and initiatives.

In 2016-17, it’s estimated that Commonwealth grants will provide around 56% of SA’s revenue and 65% of Tasmania’s.

While I haven’t checked recently, IIRC the percentage of the eastern States’ annual revenue that’s from the Commonwealth grants is usually around 40%.

VICTORIA’S alpine region has been sprinkled with snow as a cold snap continues to sweep the state.

Yesterday was the coldest February day on record since 2005, reaching a high of only 17C, nine degrees lower than the average temperature for this time of the year.

The MSM wonders why people don’t trust it. Times via Oz:

Surrounded by police and protesters, anti-immigrant Dutch populist Geert Wilders has kicked off his election campaign by calling Moroccans “scum” and vowing to “make the Netherlands ours again”.

    Oh, OK. He’s a racist.

Except that’s not what he said:

“There is a lot of Moroccan scum in Holland who make the streets unsafe,” he said on a visit to a market in a Rotterdam suburb late on Saturday.

So the scum who are making the streets of Rotterdam unsafe are Morrocans.

But the leftiod headline writer at the Oz and leftoid Matthew Campbell at The Times couldn’t care less about public safety in the Netherlands. They’d rather smear the country’s most popular politician as a waaaaayyyyyyycist.

Leftists not only lie about everything all the time, but they’re a danger to the public because maintaining their mad narratives is more important than public safety.

Bills troughs a lasting animal care legacy

    Jamie Duncan, Herald Sun

YOU can lead a horse to water and, thanks to Melbourne philanthropist George Bills, it can have a drink even if you can’t make it do so.

George Bills and his wife Annis made their fortune in manufacturing but their legacy — hundreds of water troughs for horses and other animals all over Australia, and bequests to animal welfare agencies — still echo 90 years after Mr Bills died.

George, known around old Melbourne as Joe, was born in Brighton, England, in 1859 and, after moving to New Zealand for a time, settled in Victoria in 1873.

Saudi Arabia’s Samba Financial Group named Rania Mahmoud Nashar as chief executive officer, the second woman recruited for a top finance-industry position in recent days as the country undertakes unprecedented social and economic change.

Nashar’s appointment is effective from today, according to a statement to the stock exchange on Sunday. She replaces Sajjad Razvi who resigned for personal reasons. On Thursday, NCB Capital Co. CEO Sarah Al Suhaimi was named the first woman to chair Saudi Arabia’s stock exchange, the region’s largest.

The appointments are significant for a country where the female unemployment rate is more than 34 percent and women aren’t allowed to drive. They also need a guardian’s consent to travel outside the country or marry. Change is starting to happen with the number of working women jumping 50 percent between 2010 and 2015, and more Saudi women entering male-dominated fields such as banking and engineering.

Before joining NCB Capital, Al Suhaimi was chief investment officer at Jadwa Investment and a senior portfolio manager at Samba Financial Group. Her father, Jammaz Al Suhaimi, was the head of the Capital Market Authority, the market regulator, until 2006.

The kingdom’s $439 billion stock exchange, which opened to foreigners in 2015, is seeking to attract more overseas investment as part of the country’s plans to diversify the economy away from oil.

It’s widely rumored that Saudi Arabia will soon permit women to walk dogs without the company of a man and maybe ride bicycles between the hours of 6am to 7:30am. One veteran was refused a mental health assistance dog because “his wife could do everything a dog could”.

Another was told her post traumatic stress disorder claim was false because she was pregnant and was suffering from depression related to that instead.

A third had to get his wife to secretly record his commander abusing him. The abuse related to his claim over being wrongly investigated and disciplined for alleged marijuana use in Afghanistan. He was also told he would end up as a “trolley pusher at Coles” if he didn’t follow directives from a Veterans’ Affairs staffer.

These accounts, from veterans’ advocate Rod Thompson, are contained in one of more than 500 submissions lodged with an inquiry by the Senate standing committee on defence into suicide by veterans and ex-service personnel. They give a devastating insight into the mindset of, and difficulties facing, veterans trying to navigate assistance and compensation claims after they leave the Australian Defence Force.

The flood of complaints has prompted some such as Mr Thompson to call for a royal commission into the treatment of veterans, given what he says is a life-threatening situation for many suffering ex-service personnel.

Mr Thompson, a Gulf war veteran, said the Department of Veterans’ Affairs was “dysfunctional, feudal and under-resourced’’.

“There has been an alarming spike of suicides related to DVA. Many veterans are just giving up and going to Centrelink,” he said.

Alleged gang rape shown on Facebook shocks Sweden.

Outrage and shock are spreading across Sweden over a case against three men of foreign origin arrested on suspicion of raping a woman and broadcasting it live on Facebook.

Swedish authorities said Wednesday that the case against the unidentified men was “growing stronger” amid an increasing backlash against immigrants in a country that took in more asylum seekers per capita than any other nation in Europe last year…

The alleged crime in the Scandinavian country, which has one Europe’s highest recorded rates of sexual assaults, was live-streamed on a private Facebook page accessible to about 60,000 people…

“There’s been total outrage about this case in Sweden,” said Jerzy Sarnecky, a criminologist at Stockholm University.

Trump is the victim of his own unscripted style but he was clearly referring to a TV report last night, not a terrorist attack last night:

“You look at what’s happening in Germany. You look at what’s happening last night in Sweden … Sweden … who would believe this? Sweden, they took in large numbers, they are having problems like they never thought possible. You look at what’s happening Brussels, you look at what’s happening all over the world.”

    Here is what he meant:

“You look at what’s happening in Germany. You look – last night on FOX – at what’s happening in Sweden … Sweden … who would believe this? Sweden, they took in large numbers, they are having problems like they never thought possible. You look at what’s happening Brussels, you look at what’s happening all over the world.”

I think it very much in the style of Da Hairy Irish Ape, for whom I cook such lovely dinners. Such toughness (and I don’t mean coping with my food) is part of the reason for his success.

Actually, Trump’s ‘firing’ in this case was only a demotion back from whence this ‘advisor’ and his policy wanking came, to a defense university where he no doubt feels more at home.

It’s the cheapest business sector in the world at the moment. It trades at around 7times earnings while the rest of of the market is at around 17 times forward earnings.

It’s potentially a very good investment from a dividend perspective. Now Mr. Integrity is getting in on it.

For the second time in six months, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway will invest billions of dollars into the US airline industry.

In total, Buffett’s investment in American, Delta, United, and Southwest Airlines totals nearly $US10 billion.

The move showed a stunning change of heart for Buffett, who as recently as 2013 referred to the US airline industry as a “deathtrap for investors.”

However, it is the consistency of Buffett’s investment in America’s big four airlines — $US2.1 billion in American, $US2.2 billion in United, $US2.4 billion in Southwest, and $US3 billion in Delta — that’s most enlightening.

It’s indicative of the overall strength of the US airline industry and — from the perspective of consumer — the lack of product offerings.

Over the past decade, the landscape of the airline industry in the US has changed greatly. All four airlines have reported record profits, over the fast two years, buoyed post-financial crisis capacity discipline, depressed labour costs, and cheap oil.

There are also fewer competitors in the domestic market to contend with.

In the year 2000, the sky was filled with names such as America West, US Airways, TWA, AirTran, Continental, ATA, and Northwest Airlines. By 2016, all of these brands had disappeared by being merged into or acquired by the Big Four.

As a result, apart from boutique airlines (Virgin American, JetBlue), regional brands (Alaska, Hawaiian), and ultra-low cost carriers (Spirit, Frontier) on the fringe, the Big Four only have to contend with themselves.

The Bureau of Meteorology is relieved to have it’s first cyclone of the Australian season after predicting an above average number of cyclones this year. Tropical Cyclone Alfred is “is forecast to weaken in the southern Gulf of Carpentaria prior to landfall during Tuesday”.

    Alfred is described as:

Category 1, sustained winds near the centre of 65 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 95 kilometres per hour.

Tropical cyclones are defined by BoM as:

low pressure systems that form over warm tropical waters and have gale force winds (sustained winds of 63 km/h or greater and gusts in excess of 90 km/h) near the centre.

A cynic might think BoM has its finger on the scale.

    Paywallian:

BlueScope Steel chief Paul O’Malley has warned of a national “energy catastrophe” as power and gas prices rise, saying businesses and consumers are set to be seriously out of pocket.

He has called for a set number of coal and gas power stations to provide baseload power and questioned whether a gas reservation policy is needed to counter Queensland LNG exports he says may not be in the national interest.

“If we don’t address security and affordability today, it will be very difficult for business in Australia to maintain its cost competitiveness,” Mr O’Malley said after delivering a strong first half profit.

BlueScope Steel’s (BSL) first-half profit surged by almost 80 per cent, prompting the nation’s largest steelmaker by output to increase its half-year dividend and announce a $150 million share buyback.

Mr O’Malley said gas was a cleaner alternative to fuel as coal was phased out but what was available was being “hoovered up and sent overseas”, resulting in price hikes and potential shortages.

“If there is gas in Australia and we say it can go overseas, and we don’t have any baseload generation, I think we are going to have an energy catastrophe in Australia,” he said.

Mr O’Malley said the current review being undertaken by chief scientist Alan Finkel was the best chance in a decade to have a conversation about tackling the nation’s growing energy problems.

“We need a baseload energy target on every side of every interconnector in the country,” he said.

“There needs to be a set number of coal and baseload or peaking gas units, then we can add in as much renewables as we need, but that system needs to be as stable as possible so when the wind or sun stops the grid doesn’t fall.”

The steel boss said no one was talking about the extent that power prices were rising.

“The hip pocket cost to energy, large and small and to consumers is going to be substantial,” he said.

Mr O’Malley said too many LNG export trains had been built at Gladstone at too a high a cost and that, while reservation was a “dirty word” in Australia, there needed to be a policy that recognised the nation needed affordable gas.

“Many people argue that (Queensland LNG export) is a great thing but I query whether increasing the energy cost to all businesses in Australia is actually in the national interest,” he said.

“Price increases are running out of control because there is not a policy to ensure competitiveness of supply and competitiveness among suppliers.”
