Whatever Trump might have done, I would assume it was for the benefit of the West and as part of an attempt to maintain our way of life. This is something I never believe about the left. Nothing they do ever makes me think they are out to preserve what we have or is intended to benefit the society in which I hope to continue to live.

A dear childhood friend and I had a sad exchange last week. She was inarticulate with bewildered anger at my conversation stopper, outraged at the laughing idiocy of my dangerous ignorance. Her gorgeous little head nearly exploded. All I said was “Don’t believe everything you read about Trump”.

Saw her again yesterday, and she was sweet and loving, but we both know that some topics are Verboten. Don’t mention the War.

  2. Same experience here yesterday Jannie.
The lady concerned has been part of our extended family for over a decade. Her explosion when I simply said I was a Trump supporter was the model of the cartoon above.
Her hysterical outpouring came after calm, measured discussion about all sorts of other issues and was completely out of place.
I guess she won’t be asking for a measured debate any time soon.

Pilot beetling along in Avro Lancaster Mk. V “Engineer? Why are this crew and airship bombing the Continent this evening?” “Intersex marital rights I think sir”. Top Gunner “for or against sir?” Navigator “bombing Hamburg again so I assume we’re against”. Radioman “you’re telling me that we’re risking our necks in this sardine can full of explosives at the expense of our family and future over inter fucking gay shit?” Rear gunner “it might static diversity” front gunner “Were still in Greece, lets fuck this off ” and shut up tail gun Charlie in unison. Pilot “Roger that, lets fuck off and get fucked up” … What should have happened.

Whatever Trump might have done, I would assume it was for the benefit of the West and as part of an attempt to maintain our way of life. This is something I never believe about the left. Nothing they do ever makes me think they are out to preserve what we have or is intended to benefit the society in which I hope to continue to live.

Therein lies the problem. Assuming that everything they do is wrong and everything my side does is justified is at the heart of the intense polarization of political debate at present and threatens the basic tenets of civility which is the fundamental thread keeping our society together.

Whilst nothing they do makes you think they are out to benefit the society in which you hope to live, it could be equally true to say that nothing you do makes them think you are out to benefit the society in which they hope to live. The regressive left may be 100% wrong, they may be harmful to our society but they have the right to express their opinions, they have the right to look to build a society which reflects their ethos and they have the right to challenge the record of the Trump administration.

Indeed, the Trump administration are no boy scouts here. They regularly flout the norms of White House protocols and play loose with the truth. In fact, they started this on day one of the Presidency with the crowd size controversy. To defend the Trump administration come what may is no more credible than the antics of the radical left who will oppose everything.

Only history will be able to tell us whether Trump will prove to be a net good for the US and the World. Extremist views on both the left and right will certainly not help in arriving at the proper verdict in time.

Met a lovely young lass who works in disaster recovery in LA last night who, quietly but proudly, said that she voted for Trump. She doesn’t agree with everything. But she was very anti-Hillary and Gary Johnson just had no chance. I am working in a very working class area of LA but she is the first person under 30 I’ve met that voted for Trump since being here.

Ask Trump – it is he who provided intelligence to an enemy and it is he who is acting irrationally.

Whatever Trump might have done, I would assume it was for the benefit of the West and as part of an attempt to maintain our way of life.

Oh come on Steve – you can’t really believe that everything Trump does is for a rational purpose or that he doesn’t make mistakes.

The Washington Compost, as Mark Dice, calls them, had this just last year. Talk about hypocrisy. A Democrat does it and it’s fine, but should a Republican do it, it’s bad. I just love the leftist media.

Ah, the poor old fake Roman troll — the Cat’s most crippling case of Trump derangement and capture by the zomboid leftist hivemind cult.

  10. Malcolm

If true – as it seems – it is disgraceful that Trump divulged top secret Israeli intelligence to the Russians. They will never trust him again. This is intelligence that even the five eyes nations were denied. Surely Kates that is something that might concern even you? Or are you blindly obedient to your hero Trump?

From the second of the American Thinker links:

Every time they lose another power player in D.C., like Clapper and Comey, they have to go through the five stages of grief. First denial. Then tears. Then asking God to make it not so. On and on.

If these people weren’t so malignant, I’d feel sorry for them.

This is a kind of death anxiety for the American ruling class, which is also why they constantly fantasize about killing Donald Trump. For psychiatrists, it’s an interesting mental disorder, and it’s too bad that millions of Americans still depend on Mass Cult for their daily news. This is not a college textbook; it’s America today.

The bottom line is that any ideological monopoly creates cults.

Where the United States used to have about 80 different newspaper owners in 1980, today we have fewer than a dozen conglomerates, with only one storyline.

The JournoList scandal showed that 400 “journalists” (propaganda liars) were able to drive the “news” in the U.S. and Europe. They are still doing it, because nobody can stop them.

What we are seeing is cult pathology on a mass basis. That is pathogenic (it makes people genuinely crazy), because cults that hear only one mental channel become delusional. (The “Russian election hack” scam is a classical mass delusion.) Fear gets amplified enormously by the headline rumor machine, which cult followers can no longer distinguish from reality. The old 24-hour news cycle is now every hour on the hour, and human beings can easily get flooded with too much information, so their judgment is impaired. We are seeing all of that in the media today.

Historians will look back at this time as a case of mass hysteria on the national level. Ph.D. dissertations will be written about the Trump Mass Hysteria of 2016-17, but by that time the grad students will be lolling in easy chairs and chatting about the Third Millennia Frenzy, like Orson Welles’s radio drama of 1938, The War of the Worlds.

Technology gets faster and more powerful, but human beings don’t change.

    Why would you assume that?

Basically you’re entire position now is: you’re a big government leftist, because as long as the big government leftist Trump is the one implementing those big government leftist policies, it’s “for the benefit of the West and as part of an attempt to maintain our way of life.”

Every day, another irrational decision by Donald J Trump. I think he will be pushed out under the 25th amendment (being “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office”). This New Yorker article shows why it could happen. He seems to lack the intellectual and emotional ability to discharge the duties of the office.

Memo, Steve: please take note of the trolls (including the zombie accusing Trump supporters of leftism– LOL) who have again turned up singing from the same old Wapo song sheet. As MK50 would say (before he changed his name): “Target hit amidships and burning brightly, suh!”

  23. Chris M

The media modus operandi seems to be to firstly come up with the fake news and hype it to the max over and over for 2 or 3 days. Then quietly slip in some low key backpedal articles that further investigation revealed the situation wasn’t quite like the earlier headlines had proclaimed. This will go under the radar as they have already moved onto the next Trump freak out on the front pages. Suckers like Malcolm only take in the hype, which is of course the intention.

Because you can’t make America great again with the biggest spending bills in America’s history, by failing to repeal Obamacare and helping set the scene for nationalized healthcare, by constantly engaging in strong arming of private businesses and protectionist rhetoric.

Trump and the Conservatives in America have turned out to be nothing but hot air and are giving us a third Obama term. I don’t remember Steve et al being such mindless devotees of Obama.
There’s a need to look past the mental image of Trump that lots of people seem to have and look at the reality of the situation.

Analysis: McMaster Doesn’t Deny Core Elements of WaPo Story, But Rejects Its Premise
But I suspect that this story isn’t over yet. Three possibilities remain, as I see it: First, that Trump didn’t do anything remotely inappropriate. Second, that he very obviously screwed up, and that McMaster is serving up distortionary spin to protect his boss. Third, that the central question of this controversy rests on subjective judgments — with one side of the debate perceiving Trump’s disclosure as relatively harmless and routine, and the other side insistently viewing it as neither. If I had to bet, I’d choose door number three — and determining which side’s impression is closer to the truth will likely require more information. Which probably means more leaks, which are slowly consuming the Trump administration.

    More on the crazy:

    Trump drove them mad

The Washington Post’s Fake News about President Trump giving state secrets to Russians has liberals running around like their hair is on fire. Pass the popcorn.

What we have is liberal outrage seeking something outrageous. The piece ended: “Bottom line: It matters who we have running the most powerful institution in the world.”

Yes it does, which is why Americans elected Trump president and not some sleazy woman who put classified information on an unsecured private server and pressured foreign countries to pony up donations to her “charity.”

My quick take? The hair-on-fire liberals will yell at our honorable, constitutionally elected president about some other false charge by Friday because this false charge failed. Just like the Comey thing.

It’s worth reading the rest to see the TDS of the Harvard law professor who wrote the article being incisively shredded.

  37. President Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo that Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting.

“I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.

The existence of Mr. Trump’s request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia.

So, is a crystal clear case of obstruction of justice supposed to MAGA?

The intensity of the filthy war being perpetrated against Trump by the lying Democrats/lefty progressive socialists/media/universities/Deep State/career bureaucrats/Soros et al/celebs, etc, just goes to show how fearful they are of him. They have come a long way especially with the help of Obama, to tear down the civilization known as the United States of America and don’t like losing their power. The left’s tactic is to throw enough mud until it sticks.

    It doesn’t stick to Trump.
    He is nowhere near impeachment.
A lie is a lie, but the left believe a chanted lie becomes the truth.

The left wing echo chamber of twits on twitter have been getting their knickers in a twist and having melt downs and protests since way before he was elected.
Always goes nowhere and always will.

Trump has a big swamp to drain, and the RINO’s and elites embedded in the power structure are his biggest concern.
That involves cleaning out the spy agencies and police first.

There is nothing impeachable and they haven’t found anything.

It’s a classic to hear the lefties say things like, “this Russian thing just won’t go away” .

However, this sort of statement is just so stupid. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Obama didn’t have to.
He is the guy who appointed Comey.

Why do you think Comey deep-sixed the investigation into Hillary’s illegal server and her cavalier way with classified documents?

Recall the reason he “reopened” the investigation just before the election was that his guys were ready to start an FBI civil war – which would’ve been worse for Hillary’s election campaign than if he ‘reopened’ the case then closed it again, which is what he did.

The only people Obama ever appointed were lefty activists in his image.
Why would he not also do it for the most powerful office in the USA?

  57. Mitch

The thing you need to keep driving home is that Hillary and her team tried to steal Michigan. Stein’s recount showed up a significant number of votes in excess of registered voters, and they overwhelmingly went for Hillary. Not surprisingly, when this became clear the recount was canned a state judge. An entire documentary should be made about this if you have that kind of skillset. Don’t overplay your hand, just focus on Michigan.

  58. tgs

montell – your knowledge of what treason actually is, is quite lacking.

If it comes down to credibility, enough Democrats accused Comey of having no credibility so that this will spectacularly blow up in their faces.

Furthermore, for Trump to have “revealed intel” as a crime would require Hillary’s reclassification of secret documents being a crime too – both were not – they were legitimate exercise of executive prerogatives.

The day the POTUS and Secretary of State no longer decide what is secret and what is not is when the deep state wins.

Are you with me montell? Are you against the deep state, enhanced interrogation, metadata or are you against me and do you stand with the likes of Clapper and Brandis?!

Tim Allen ‘Stunned and Blindsided’ by ABC’s Decision to Cancel Hit Show

ABC, according to Deadline Hollywood, blamed license fee issues as the reason behind the cancellation. The sudden announcement led many to suggest that the decision could have been political given the TV show’s overt conservative-leanings.

Deadline Hollywood writer Nellie Andreeva similarly noted confusion over the cancelling given “the fact that the blue-collar sitcom was ABC’s second most watched comedy this season with 8.1 million viewers…”

  62. Zatara

Hillary’s reclassification of secret documents being a crime too – both were not – they were legitimate exercise of executive prerogatives.

If she didn’t classify them she can’t unclassify them. Information from other Agencies classified by them and shared with her is not within her purview to unclassify.

Oh, and then there is that sticky problem of the procedure to de-classify (even it was DoS derived info), which requires documents and signatures, which she never bothered with because that leaves a paper trail.

That’s how the US information security program works. What she did is most certainly a crime.

  63. Are you with me montell? Are you against the deep state, enhanced interrogation, metadata or are you against me and do you stand with the likes of Clapper and Brandis?!

I have a couple of questions for all the posters here, who are ranting about Trump releasing “intelligence” to the Russians.
Were you there at the time when this took place?
Was anyone who described or reported what took place there at the time?
Does anyone other than those present actually know what was said?
Does anyone know if the “intelligence” was important?
The answer to all these questions, for anypone who posted ere, is “no.”
So, STFU! You’re making a fool of yourself.

  72. Dot, this role that you have taken on of joining the MAGA crowd to avoid getting bullied by them just isn’t flying. Be true to yourself, man. You are better than this.

  73. Bruce of Newcastle

Trump is pro torture, and he is not doing anything about metadata. He would approve public floggings if he was told the optics would work.

Sounds great. All those ferals who impede righty speakers at universities should be prepared to shed a few square inches of skin for the cause.

Also I think spaying should be brought back. Remember how the Eastern Roman Empire mainly was run by eunuchs? Appointees to the head of the FBI, CIA, DHS and the Fed should be asked to submit to a nice little operation before taking office, just so they appreciate the honour of the job.

Then every time they sit down to pee they would be reminded that they exist to serve the voters.

  74. Bruce of Newcastle

    Rand Paul lol.

Today Rand Paul ain’t happy with a certain friend of M0nty’s.

Rand Paul Fears His Conversations May Have Been “Unmasked” By Obama Administration

In other words Obama wasn’t just spying on Trump and his campaign.
    He was spying on everyone.
    Watergate times a thousand.
    I do hope he ends up in a 4 x 3m cell.

A Code Pink demonstrator was not convicted Wednesday simply for laughing during Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ confirmation hearing.

Laughter was indeed a factor in the jury’s decision this week to convict Desiree Fairooz, a longtime anti-war demonstrator, but the story is a bit more complicated than that.

Fairooz was arrested on Jan. 10 after she laughed out loud during Sen. Richard Shelby’s, R-Ala., introductory remarks at Sessions’ confirmation hearing, reported the Huffington Post’s Ryan J. Reilly, who has done a fine job tracking this story since the beginning.

The veteran protestor scoffed when Shelby said Sessions’ record of “treating all Americans equally under the law is clear and well-documented.” Fairooz was detained soon thereafter and charged with “disorderly and disruptive conductintended to “impede, disrupt, and disturb the orderly conduct” of congressional business.

The Code Pink demonstrator also caused a scene when law enforcement officials escorted her from the chamber, which earned her a second misdemeanor for, “parading, demonstrating or picketing within a Capitol“.

Strangely enough, the US Congress, like the Oz Parliament, have better things to do while in session than being disrupted by un-elected left wing psychos.

If you think that’s no big deal put a pink KKK outfit on, head for parliament during question time, and start loudly singing “I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK”…. and then resist arrest.

Let us know how that goes.

  76. Tim Neilson

Poor old monty the imbecile cult zombie.
Sees his latest instructions from the agitprop media that “Trump released intelligence to the Russians”.
Believes it wholeheartedly despite it being backed by zero evidence.
When asked for evidence he defecates in his pants and starts flinging around articles alleging that Jeff Sessions is implicated in police shooting blacks.
    Just another day on Catallaxy.

  77. Tim Neilson

Whatever Trump might have done, I would assume it was for the benefit of the West and as part of an attempt to maintain our way of life. This is something I never believe about the left.

“… this sort of statement is just so stupid. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. This kind of zealous tribalism underpinned by nothing more that blind faith is the sort of thing we rightly call out when the left does it but for some reason Trump should get a free pass no matter what?”

Actually tgs I don’t think that you need to have any great faith in Trump to believe Steve’s assumption. Let’s assume that Trump has a giant ego. He’s been elected on a platform of “Make America Great Again”. Why wouldn’t he be motivated to achieve it? Yes, he will make mistakes and probably has already and yes some of the things he does may (perhaps) be driven more by emotion than calculation, but that doesn’t detract from Steve’s point.
Contrast “fundamentally transform” Barry and “the first time I’ve been proud of my country” Michelle, and you’ll understand why Steve’s statement makes sense.

  78. Aussiepundit

There are two possibilities for the next couple of weeks.
    a) Trump strikes back hard against his internal enemies;
    b) Trump is toast.

If he flies out for the middle east as planned, then it’s (b) for sure.

  79. Irreversible

Trump is not on our side and it is very hard to understand why Kates and others keep “defending” him. The only side Trump is on is the Trump side and that won’t play. The issue has nothing to do with who he beat. It’s all about Trump and the job he has. So far he has failed and possibly ruined any chance of change in health care, his budget plan is so laden with debt that it must surely sink and his wall either won’t go ahead or will add even more to debt. He has hung McMaster out to dry by first sending him out to deny that Trump gave secrets to the Russians and then admitting it in his own twitter account. He has totally confused Asian allies over his China play, appearing now to be a potential ally of Xi. He has totally screwed up the standing of the FBI.
Fundamentally he is not fit for office. That is the only issue.

Do any of the prominent players in our mostly left leaning media realise how much damage the flood of “fake news” about Trump has done to their profession?
    Do any of them care?
I’ve been treating all news about Trump as likely to be BS and waiting for outcomes to define truth and reality.

  83. Rand Paul Fears His Conversations May Have Been “Unmasked” By Obama Administration

Rand Paul has a very rational and justified fear that his conversations are so devoid of interest that nobody would bother bugging him.

  84. I was extremely critical of Trump. Now he is in office he gets an even chance.

No Dot, that’s not how it went. What you meant to say was, “I got the shit kicked out of me by Trumpkins so I decided to join ’em to stop getting beaten up by ’em. Baby don’t hurt me… no more.”

Trump treats libertarians like he treats all his supporters: with contempt. You should be smarter than the average MAGA drone. Sounding like one of them does you no credit.

Hey Monty, as a lefty, I’m curious what you’re actual issue with Trump and Republicans in general is?
Just a quick review of the first 100 days of Conservatives controlling every branch of American government:

    – Biggest spending bill in history. Check
    – American Healthcare Act. Check
    – Setting the stage for outright collapse of health insurers and outright nationalization of healthcare. Check
    – General protectionist rhetoric. Check
    – Strong arming private business in a Chavez-like, thug fashion. Check
And on and on, but you get the point.

He is basically an orange Obama and the Conservatives in office are running things about as left as the Democrats were running things in terms of spending and regulations.

    So. Why aren’t you cheering?

  87. I had been thinking about compiling a list like that one, peter. Except for the protectionist stuff, I don’t go for that.

My problem is that if you look back through history, the Nixon/Ford administration was a dismal failure by any measure, including a recession during Ford’s time. Since we seem to be replaying that whole shyteshow from start to finish (just a bit faster), I am not looking forward to Pence captaining the Titanic into that particular iceberg. The quicker it’s over with the better, economically.

  88. Bruce of Newcastle

He has totally screwed up the standing of the FBI.

I’m going to do something which I don’t think I’ve ever done before, which is quote in toto a comment by another Catallaxian. From Val Majkus this afternoon:

a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer writing about the recent events in the FBI and about his father who served as an FBI special agent and who was extremely proud of the FBI

…Dad’s been gone for ten years now. But he would roll over in his grave if he knew how the FBI caved in to the Justice Department over investigation of Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified materials. My own concern is not so much because my Foreign Service colleagues and I would be in federal prison had we so recklessly threatened national security. But rather because a part of me is glad that dad’s not alive to see what has become of his beloved FBI.

Americans get that Hillary Clinton brought the email and Clinton Foundation scandals upon herself. And that political favoritism and abuse of power long pervaded the upper echelons of the Obama Justice Department. No one was living under any illusions for the last eight years that there was equal justice under the law. The Department of Justice was never going to prosecute Hillary Clinton — nor the National Security Advisor or the IRS for abuse of power.

But the damage done to the Bureau’s credibility and independence under the Directorship of James Comey runs deep, and his termination was way overdue. Comey was, simply, the wrong man for the job of FBI Director.

The new director will have to do whatever is necessary to restore the Bureau’s credibility and independence, and re-establish the FBI as the iconic law enforcement institution that it was before the Obama-Comey era. Only then can it start to rebuild the respect and integrity that it has rightfully enjoyed for so many decades in the eyes of the American people …

There you go “Irreversible”. May your revolution turn out not to be so.

  89. dopey

Just mention the Supreme Court appointment and they won’t hava a clue what you’re talking about.

  90. Malcolm

Trump is a loose cannon. You certainly can’t rely him ti deliver a conservative outcome. He is just helping the other side. That’s what I can’t understand Kates and the other Trump acolytes. Sure Hillary was defeated but that’s about all. His behaviour is irrational and he doesn’t act with the dignity one should expectof a president

  91. iampeter

Bruce, but what my criticism is with regards to the handling of Comey is that it has made all the points about the damage to the FBI in your post, even more serious. There is now no chance for restoring the FBI’s credibility in the foreseeable future because of how spectacularly badly everything has been done by the Trump admin.

Comey should’ve been fired the moment Trump took office, along with getting the process underway for appointment of a special prosecutor to re-open the Clinton investigation and to add new investigations into both Comey and Lynch who have engaged in an open and shut conspiracy to obstruct the course of justice. (Not like the made up conspiracy of Russian collusion btw).

Instead Comey was first re-appointed, then later fired in a circus-like fashion (best episode of The Apprentice ever!) The official reasons being that he affected the election with his press conference and letter (is this Hillary firing him?) and then the actual reason stated by Trump in his interview undermining his own team, being that he wouldn’t drop the whole Russia investigation. There are no words to describe this chain of events other than to say that I imagine this is what things would be like if an autistic monkey that has been beaten with a rusty bike chain was running things.

What Trump defenders need to realize is that whatever damage Comey did to the FBI has been infinitely compounded by the way Trump handled firing him.

  92. john constantine

There are no sides, there is only the inevitable progressive side of history, its weaponised demographics and balkanised tribal identity battlefields pushing its tidal inundation of the obsolete imperial settler socities, the decolonialisation process bringing Zimbabwe style equality to the West, because Diversity is their left’s Strength and Weapon.

  93. Zatara

    Comey was not “re-appointed”.

He was in the middle of a 10 year term.

  94. iampeter

“Re-appointed”, “kept on”, “not fired immediately by incoming administration because he begged for his job”, whatever.

None of this addresses the point, which is the damage done to the FBI by the way he has been fired. Can’t restore the FBI’s credibility without getting the job of investigating Hillary and her accomplices properly, which is what created the credibility issue in the first place.

But now Hillary is free as a bird, Lynch is free as a bird, Comey is free as a bird (can’t wait for his book) an the FBI is fucked for the foreseeable future.

  95. Julian the deplorable

On ABC news radio yesterday, the security expert said of the Trump issue “it doesn’t matter if this is true or not, it’s done great damage”…WTF….if it’s not true I would assume the position should be that there is no damage.

  96. Bruce of Newcastle

There is now no chance for restoring the FBI’s credibility in the foreseeable future because of how spectacularly badly everything has been done by the Trump admin.

    That’s not Trump’s fault.
    It’s the Left’s fault.
The FBI lost all credibility because they were captured by the Left, and refused to apply the law in regard to Hillary and her like.
    Conquest’s 2nd Law is real.

If Trump treats libertarians with contempt, he’s not much different to your feigned concern for civil liberties. The test for him is if he takes on the surveillance apparatus.

I predict that Steve Kates will be back here in 6 months with his tail between his legs apologising for being such an advocate for Trump. He will have finally realised that far from being the great right hope, Trump has been the left’s Trojan Horse. How Kates’ passionate love of Trump can turn to hatred will be a sight to see.

  101. Malcolm

Actually no Kates will not apologise. He will dissemble. It matters not – we all know that he has been wrong about Trump. We all know that Kates has been suffering TDS. But while Kates may not admit failure or being wrong, his hatred against his former lover Trump will be intense indeed.

  102. Malcolm

To be clear, I’m not suggesting a sexual relationship between Kates and Trump. It is merely like Dante and Beatrice. A pure love from afar that is never consummated.

  103. iampeter

    That’s not Trump’s fault.
    It’s the Left’s fault.

But what do you mean by this?

How is not firing Comey as soon as he became President not Trumps fault?
How is not appointing a special prosecutor not Trumps fault? (he literally led chants of “lock her up” at rallies, it’s not like we’re demanding something he said he’d never do here, its a reason many of us supported him)
How is the day-time-soap drama level of firing Comey not Trumps fault?
How is getting his comms team to come up with a bs excuse to justify it after the fact that turns his firing into a joke, making him a victim not Trumps fault?
How is not at least getting the reasons for firing him right (e.g. Comey is stupid, incompetent and casually corrupt) not Trumps fault? I mean he didn’t even get this bit right.

Sorry to say, but this mess is entirely his fault. Can’t even blame his team for this one because they are caught entirely reacting to his randomness.

  104. Malcolm

Very well, but will you apologise if you were wrong?
And more importantly, will we ever know if you did?

  106. Malcolm

If after his first term Trump has been successful and acts with due dignity for the position then I will be happy to apologise. To be s;uccessful I mean: the unemployment rate in the US has fallen at the end of Trump’s first term; real wages have increased significantly in the US; the US budget is moving towards a surplus. If Trump achieves this then he will be a genius.

He hasn’t apologised for promoting the loony Canadian Hellyer who thought several alien species were living among us and govts could solve climate change if they released the alien tech they were keeping secret. Cherrypicking the ramblings of a madman without informing readers that he was indeed a madman is unforgivable.

  109. truth

This whole jihad against Trump…mainly led by CNN ….. is based on the theme of a treasonous Trump making some sort of Faustian deal with Russian hackers & Putin … to get himself elected by discrediting poor innocent Hillary via hacked emails.
It seems CNN’s completely uninterested in the fact that a young Clinton campaign employee who allegedly [his parents having subsequently had their own private investigation done] leaked to Wikileaks the thousands of emails that we’re meant to believe were from a Russian hack……. was murdered at around the time Wikileaks got hold of the emails…about a year ago,.
CNN wants the world to believe Wikileaks’ email release is evidence of collusion between Trump & Putin/Russia…. the hack done by Russia to corrupt the US election…to hurt Hillary to make way for Trump to become President….and they don’t want to hear about any alternative possibility…especially if it’s inconvenient for their Democrat comrades .
CNN’s apparently completely uninterested in the fact that the young Clinton campaign employee…Seth Rich… was murdered a year ago and yet the murder investigation seems to have been almost non-existent…or stalled from the start…or cold…or compromised …riven with unanswered questions…or that the private investigation reports an unnamed person trusted by them has seen Rich’s laptop and evidence of contact with Wikileaks …that Assange has said the Wikileaks source was not Russia…that Wikileaks has offered a $20000 reward for information on Seth Rich’s murder.
The almost 100% Democrat MSM’s just hell bent on getting rid of Trump ….literally no matter what price has to be paid by innocent people…& looks as though they’re prepared to cover up the possibility of terrible crimes in order to get their way….to place the Clintons and Democrats above the law…no matter what the horrible fallout is on the world view of America.
There should be a price paid by the LW MSM for this atrocity.

  110. That a person calling themselves “truth” posted that load of debunked rubbish (see today’s OT) sums up the quality of the average Cat poster.

  111. truth

    Malcolm…
Trump was elected by the American people and your comments are just silly and meaningless—helpful ONLY to the corrupt Democrats and their almost 100% LW MSM.

Any POTUS subjected to this barrage would have trouble coping with it.

IMO CNN et al are trying to recreate and relive their Nixon-hounding heydays…when the MSM spent years psychologically destabilizing him unmercifully until he proved to be human and succumbed… culminating in Watergate.

How they’d love to be able to repeat that perfidy with the hated Trump who had the temerity to defeat their ruthless and nefarious Clintons .

Your comment might carry some weight if you acknowledged the nannying and coverups that have smoothed the way for the most incompetent..debauched…criminal of Democrat heroes who’ve left all manner of mayhem and loss of life in their wake.

  112. truth

    Rubbish..Iampeter!

All hell would’ve broken loose if Trump had sacked Comey immediately.

And the official reason when he did.. was that Comey had lost the confidence of the FBI.

There was nothing inconsistent in Trump’s saying he took the advice of Rosenstein the Dep-Attorney-general and later saying he’d decided to fire Comey anyway…he just wanted to confirm his view to reinforce it with a lawyer’s opinion.

Trump’s assessment of Comey was spot on….showboater.

The trouble for Comey’s July litany of Hillary’s crimes was that the ‘Here’s what we found’ and then the ‘Here’s what we’re not going to do about it’… didn’t add up to either logic or anything resembling justice.

It added up to one law for the Clintons and Democrats and a different one for all other Americans.

His later explanation re why he did it all is even worse. He said …pretty much…’it was a hard call for poor me to take that decision-making process away from the Justice Dept and upon myself…but I had to do it..I nailed it..look at me …look at me.

He’s just another Lefty poseur addicted to MSM attention..having his x minutes of fame.

Trump will work his magic on America if he’s given a chance IMO…even though I wasn’t a supporter till it came down to him or the Hillary creature.

  113. truth

Thanks for that Monty…why don’t you debunk it right here for us/me…or are you just blustering.

What’s your story on Seth Rich? Has someone proved he wasn’t emailing WikiLeaks?

Have the police or FBI solved the murder…if so who dunnit?

Have you some inside information on WHO it was who leaked to WikiLeaks then? WHO??

Or are you just grumpy and authoritarian about this blog.

  114. danger mouse

I choose to ignore Malcolm–in fact, all Malcolms. Life is too damn short

  115. Yes “truth”, a cop on the investigation said there were no emails to Wikileaks on Rich’s laptop. The story was fake.

  116. Andrew

However, this sort of statement is just so stupid. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. This kind of zealous tribalism underpinned by nothing more that blind faith is the sort of thing we rightly call out when the left does it but for some reason Trump should get a free pass no matter what?

You really think he should be prosecuted for telling Lavrov that ISIS represented a credible threat to blow up (another) Rushn jetliner with a bomb disguised as a laptop? This was in the meeja 2 months ago when they banned laptops on certain flights. You really think the Kenyan never shared more interesting stuff than this?

If T666 having a private chat to Lavrov about one of the major terrorism threats in the world today compromised a source, what do you think the deep state screeching “Jooooooooooordan!!!!!!!111!!!!!” on every leftist meeja outlook that would run it did? Did that make the situation better or worse? Should the people who added this new info be prosecuted? Should Illary be prosecuted for the “response time” comment on live TV? Or the Kenyan for announcing in his election campaign which SEAL team got Osama?

  117. truth

Gosh Monty…doesn’t take much to hose you down!

It would be very bad luck indeed for anyone who found himself having to rely on you to seek [ dare I say] the truth.

‘A cop’ says boo and you’re outta there…end of story.

Do you also not believe Assange when he says Russians weren’t the WikiLeaks source…he may be many things but so far he hasn’t been found to be a liar…not even by the Swedish authorities.

Why are you so vehemently…militantly…certain this strangely secretive and apparently fruitless year-long ‘investigation’ has no bearing on the leak that WikiLeaks says didn’t come from Russians?

The parents of Seth rich may not want anyone trying to find the truth but their other son…Seth’s brother…is raising money for an investigation into the murder.
