Marcus Classis: Lies, Damned Lies, Statistics and Ministerial Press Releases

Reading through the June SSAA “Australian Shooter’ magazine is always a monthly highlight. Especially anything written  by their legislative officer, Kate Fantinel. (Kate Fantinel, ‘Minister’s epic guns seizure error – more parts than actual firearms found’, SSAA Australian Shooter magazine, June 2017, p.14. )

In the June magazine, she points out that Justice Minister Michael Keenan’s dramatic announcement in March 2017 that the ‘National Anti-Gang Squad’ (NAGS) had seized ‘more than 5,600 illegal firearms since 2013’.

This is not actually NAGS main job by the way, it’s incidental, mostly they focus on criminal gangs like the ones the government imports wholesale in the refugee and immigration inflow. Somali Apex gangs, Islamic terrorist and drug gangs, those sort of multiculti New Australians the luvvies rhapsodise over.

The gullible (if not cretinous) MSM swallowed this without a blink, of course. But not SSAA’s Kate Fantinel. She wondered about it, and dug into it. Should be a name for that sort of thing – ‘basic journalism’ springs to mind as a contender. And she seems to have met a stone wall from the Minister’s office. So she dug deeper. After a lot of effort she found that the much-hyped ‘National Anti-Gang Squad’ seizures ‘more than 5,600 illegal firearms since 2013’ was a load of bollocks.

The AFP, who the Minister’s staff left holding THEIR press-release-baby, at least responded as best they could. Must have been entertaining for them, given the blatant lies of the press release. They had records of 4,785 firearms parts allegedly bound for Australia being seized in the USA (not in Australia and there was no incontrovertible proof that they were Australia-bound), of these 4,547 were unmarked 1911 pistol frames, 96 were semi-automatic pistol frames, 136 were AR-15 receivers and just six, six, were “automatic assault rifles” (read semi-automatics, probably AR-15 or similar).

Only 303 items were found in Australia: and all were merely parts including an upper and lower frame for a semi-auto rifle, 19 semi-auto 1911 pistol frames with identical serial numbers, six parts for 1911 pistols and 10kg of ammo.

In other words, the Minister’s staff wrote a press release which he or his chief of staff authorised for release, and that press release was entirely a fiction. The cruel would say it was a tissue of lies. The Minister bayed that he was in credit because “5,600 illegal guns had been seized” but it was just six all seized in the USA, the rest were parts, and only 303 of those parts were seized in Australia!

To make it worse, the Minister is apparently cutting NAGS funding by $6.3 million. So not only was he stealing credit for their work and acting like a virgin 15 year old boy boasting about how many girls he’s screwed, he’s simultaneously cutting the funds to a squad at least trying to sort out the crime-gangs the Feds keep importing!

And politicians wonder why there is simply no trust in them or anything they do or  say. The political rot has gotten bone deep in Australia, to the point where there are lies, there are damned lies, then there’s statistics and finally, at the absolute bottom of the barrel of trustworthiness, there’s ministerial press releases.

  1. Up The Workers!

Bear in mind that this is all going on even BEFORE Bull Shitten, Leader of the Australian LIARS’ Party, plants his well-padded posterior in the big chair that Prime Quisling, Quivering Halal Mal the Head-Loppers’ Pal of the Laboral Party, has been warming for him.

  2. H B Bear

Smokers and shooters are about the only groups one can vilify in polite company nowadays.

  3. Entropy

Wasn’t repeated in parliament as a ministerial statement by any chance?

  4. struth

Oh well, I’m sure everything will be above board with the SSM survey!

That’s the only hope of even a token blowback about this.
The public has well and truly reached the state of acquired tolerance of political dishonesty, and are as likely to react actively to this as they are to learning that the sun rose in the east this morning.
And the MSM have obviously decided that this press release is the “correct” narrative for the public to hear, so they’re not going to try to make an issue of it.
Perhaps we should agitate for a rule that all Ministerial press releases are tabled in Parliament so that the appropriate sanctions can be applied.

They’re pushing Aussies to the brink and they know it. They’re shit scared of people with guns and will do and say anything to vilify them.

    HOP Time!

  7. John Constantine

It might not be Factually correct, but it feelz so truthy that you would, like, be literally a Nazi to object to the essence of truthiness.

Being literally a Nazi means you are a domestic terrorist and must have your guns grabbed by the State.

  8. Chris

Being literally a Nazi means you are a domestic terrorist and must have your guns grabbed by the State.

    Oh noes.
How terrible officer. There I was innocently paddling my own canoe when it fell over and ALL my guns fell in the sea.

  9. Howard Hill

Yes boating accidents can be wonderful things at times.
Lost heaps over the years, irretrievable :~)

  10. Rabz

Reminds me of the Federal Keystone Cops breathlessly reporting that the ACL bombing was not motivated by political or ideological grievances.

These scumbags lie and lie and lie (and then lie some more, again). They are a disgrace.

HH: They’re pushing Aussies to the brink and they know it. They’re shit scared of people with guns and will do and say anything to vilify them.

Not quite. They are, as clearly displayed in the manner of their everyday speaking, utterly CONTEMPTUOUS of firearm owners.

They are trying to push people OVER the brink; thus eventually getting another “event” like Vegas, etc.

Then they will go for broke, cheered on by the baying slugs of the Lamestream Meeja.

“Unintended Consequences”; it’s not just an interesting book.

  12. Mullumhillbilly

Bureacrazi in action, formulating a big enough lie to justify their expansion and the next level of control

    Marcus,

Great article on the lying liars, but frankly I can’t get to excited over the whole thing.

Essentially anyone attempting to import items from the USA is most likely to be a patriotic Australian. If those items were not shipped or were intercepted then that means less real Australians have guns.

Now of course NAGS misses the really important stuff like muzzies managing to import 200 glocks and the other 20 imports that were known about, but some other piece of the bureaucracy lost track of them. (2015-2016).

Of course now we have islamic state actors, muslims have sources ready to send arms, and of course, with their great love of infiltration, they have the contacts to keep the paperwork moving and hence the guns moving.

The upshot of all this is that Australians must get themselves a “Second Amendment Mindset” PDQ, own the best guns you can, own as many as you can. Australia is changing fast, and not in a good way.

  14. cohenite

Yep, it has now reached the stage where you have to assume mainstream pollies are either criminally inept, actively betraying Australian society or on the make entirely. Or all 3.

Yep. This is why I have been baiting Monty recently, to draw this out.

Agree that there’s no point in getting excited over this – the MSM is 100% on-side with the SJW set.

What’s interesting is that SSAA and others have gained so much traction politically. Fantinel is really quite good at something the MSM mostly have no interest in, actual journalism, and I wrote this up really to provide some material for the Cat’s ex-military and firearms owners to consider.

it’s quite true that I have more trust in and more respect for someone like ZK2A (who I have never met) than any pollie, journo or other SJW type. That’s this whole ‘identity group’ thing the freakshow of the deviants and perverts of the left has been using for years and which normies like us are just starting to use.

    Just food for thought.

Why not form identity and affinity groups? Why not get to know each other? Why not start to work together on issues of mutual interest?

You sure as hell cannot trust a pollie, journo or other SJW type.

  16. duncanm

You can pretty much guarantee that any news regarding guns, weather records, refugees, or any number of talking points of the left is mostly bullshit.

It takes so little digging to uncover the facts on most of these — the MSM is clearly complicit in the lies and distortions.

  17. yarpos

A little more than just parts. With complete frames/receivers it is simple to assemble a weapon with other parts, many of which can be manufactured by people with skill and tooling. Without the frames/receivers you really do just have “parts”

Would need to know more about the investigation to know if they location of the seizure is an indication of the input to achivement.

In terms of truthiness its not clear the article is batting any better than the press release

  18. cohenite

Why not form identity and affinity groups? Why not get to know each other? Why not start to work together on issues of mutual interest?

Join a gun club, albeit not one dominated by muslims. Join the SFF. Ring up talkback; a surprising number of jockeys are sympathetic; except laws who is a complete fuckwit.

  19. Pedro the Ignorant

The more you stick your head over the parapet on public fora regarding gun ownership, the more likely you are to end up on some police or government database as “unreliable”.

The recent AMA blather about centralising firearm storage was widely published and the sheepish multitudes nodded their heads and thought “doctor knows best”. London to a brick it will be bipartisan “policy” within five years.

Anybody with an ounce of analytical skill could debunk this bullshit in minutes, but then you are like, literally, a Nazi.

Use the Need to Know principle. Keep under the radar.

The gun grabbers will never, ever give up until every Australian citizen is disarmed.

  20. ‘more than 5,600 illegal firearms since 2013’.

Yeah but that includes two of John Macarthur’s Brown Bess flintlocks fixed above the fireplace at Elizabeth Farm.

  21. Tom

Great post, Mark. This is what has got me out of bed every day of my working life as a journo: exposing bullshit, finding the real story, holding government to account. I’m reminded of the old saying: news is something somewhere that someone doesn’t want you to know about — the rest is advertising. Eighty per cent of the news media long ago stopped digging for such nuggets and now sees itself as part of the ruling class enforcement machine, which used to be its enemy!

  22. Richard

What an absolute disgrace of a minister you become Justice Minister Michael Keenan.

  23. Wil

When will this phony war morph into the real one?
Is it up to Trump to declare it?

  24. Cannibal

Without the frames/receivers you really do just have “parts”

Yeah, nobody could ever manufacture a receiver in Australia*. Only Yanks are clever enough.

    * except for that bloke in Doonside a few years back manufacturing entire rifles, that is.

  25. marcus classis

Cannibal, now that the greenfilth and ALP have killed car manufacturing, a LOT of modern CNC gear will be coming on to the market, cheap.

I hear Borg-Warner is closing, for example.

Obviously, you could NEVER make receivers with modern CNC gear…..

  26. rickw

Obviously, you could NEVER make receivers with modern CNC gear…..

You could make receivers with a cold chisel and a file if you had to, like they do in Bishap, Pakistan.

Correction: the MSM IS the SJW set.
