Apparently the cops arrested one of the murderers “seconds” after the SUV crashed into a small white bollard.

  2. notafan

I haven’t been to Flinders Street from long time but back in the day there were always police on that corner doing traffic duty.

  3. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Beare

Hah. Just finished decorating the tree and have turned the lobby into Santa’s Grotto. Kids have retreated to their ipads and I am making scrambled eggs for them now. I told Hairy I have put the new ‘rag look’ decoration, a grey mouse with a long nose, big tail and holding bells (cost an outrageous $20 in Westfield’s Papaya trendy home store), on top of the tree as I can’t find the angel. My Big Sis, he says, will be right onto it – what’s dat at rat doing up dere, she’ll want to know. I’ll say it’s the rodent that runs up and down Yggdrasil, the Nordic World Tree. She won’t be impressed though.

When Hairy gets home he can help put up the coloured lights around the lobby, plus he’s bringing spare batteries for all the deer, snowmen and Santas to keep them blinking and jolly.

We’re training for a battery led future here.

You said he was a section head, turns out he is – or was – a division head. no wonder I couldn’t find him, Pretty sloppy.

Anyway, he’s not on the current org chart – nor is the ‘South-East Asia Maritime Division’. There has obviously been a re-org since the last ASIS reunion.

He’s actually currently Deputy Head of Mission in Jakarta:

Feeling very sad for those people injured in Melbourne. It’s especially horrifying re the little child involved. Whoever does this is taking their cue from ISIS, whatever ‘reason’ they give for it. This is Mode Islam.

In cases like this where the perp is caught red handed in an attempt at mass murder then yes. I’d agree to that but only in those circumstances. It must also be accompanied with deportation penalty for all his family members who are not natural born Australians and the cancelling of all Govt benefits for his immediate family for life. These are reasonable punishments.

We have an innocent toddler on life support. Penalties for cowardly acts like this must be equally severe.

True, Lizzie. And if the perps’ wives, children, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, sisters, brothers, cousins by both blood and marriage, and all their collective children, were currently being loaded aboard a C-17 Globemaster for a one way trip to Southern Libya, all this would stop, pronto.

    I used to work there!
And I worked with good people. Some where exceptional.

Hey, Rambler! Maybe we even met!

I worked on the two Telstra sales, doing as much good as is possible in the APS.

Quite a few colleagues thought that the sale team were agents of Satan. I didn’t give a stuff.

I still have lunch every few months with pals from those days. Most of them are leftist, but they are able to distinguish between character and politics.

BTW, the steps of our building became known as the ‘stairway to heaven’ after a boy and girl at the Christmas party one year had it away on the steps after midnight. Legend has it that it was captured by the DFAT cameras across the road.

And yes, when I was there, there were some very fine people around. My boss was a conservative economist who also loved good wine and offered drinks on Friday afternoon. The boss was the son of a railwayman who got where he was doing night school. I’ll never forget when I was called up to his office about something, and his desk was perfectly clean except for the Daily Telegraph form guide.

Don’t want to be humbuggy Lizzie, but the Nordic World Tree is a bit boring.
Yggdrasil is an Ash tree- but literally, it’s the Horse of Odin, ie a vehicle only for those in the know. Lots of saga stories involving subterfuge, smiting, shagging and stabbing. And the gods’ favourite pastime, sex tourism.
The rat fits though, especially Ratus norvegicus, the black ships’ rat.

  25. Dave in Marybrook

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) went on Fox News Wednesday night to discuss the Russia investigation, where he advocated for public Congressional testimony of key witnesses, and called current Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe “a key witness to a potential scheme to deprive President Trump of his ascension to the office he was elected to serve in.”

Gaetz also said it’s time for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to “Put up or shut up,” adding “If there’s evidence of collusion, let’s see it. If not, let’s move on as a country and let’s institute reforms at the FBI so that an ego-maniac FBI director like James Comey cannot depart from the normal standard procedures that guarantee all Americans equal treatment under the law.

Apparently House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte has also made a commitment to members of the committee that subpoenas are about to go out for Peter Strzok, his mistress Lisa Page, Bruce and Nellie Ohr, and Andrew McCabe.

On the topic of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Gaetz said “we need the Attorney General to step up and do his job,” adding “we need to move on and get past this, but that will only happen if Attorney General Sessions stops being a spectator and actually steps up and leads the Department of Justice, and shuts down this biased investigation.”

You don’t just deport the crim, you deport his immediate family, then his uncles, aunties, cousins.
If anyone protests or complains, then they get deported, not just the protester but the immediate family, then his uncles, aunties, cousins.
This might quieten things down for a bit but when they start trouble again then repeat the process.

The desire for free stuff is very strong.

Flinders St carnage the work of a drug addict

A vehicle attack on a busy pedestrian crossing in Melbourne’s Flinders Street which left 14 people in hospital was the work of a mentally ill drug addict, police believe.

The Australian understands the attack, which occurred at 4.42pm in the heart of downtown Melbourne, is not being treated as terrorism.

Rather, the driver is thought to be a mentally ill man with a history of addiction to the drug ice.

It is understood he has no known links to extremism and is not known to counter-terrorism authorities.

A second man pictured arrested at the scene was unconnected to the attack, The Australian has been told.

Police have said publicly the attack was deliberate but that the driver’s motive remained unknown.

Simple fact is that Australia’s bought and paid for political class are hellbent on accelerating the day that the country reaches the million Wahhabi mark.

    Within a decade?.

We cannot kill or imprison our way to victory against terrorism, only importing mass numbers more of diversity can be our strength now.

Like the Clinton crime family bombed a European capital back into the stone age to prove to the caliphate they were on the right side of history….

After every incident, we increase tribute payments, we increase the Wahhabi population, we increase the Wahhabi voice in politics and media.

More mosquebunkers, more paid to breed big Men with wife herds, more tribute payments.

Our craven compliance and capitulation is our strength.

Our disarming of the proles is our strength.

Hey JC are there any dodgy areas of Manhattan these days or is the whole place gentrified?

    Speaking of gentrification…

For Westside Atlanta homeowners, city unveils means to combat gentrification

In the elongating shadow of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, just west of Northside Drive, the real estate market is dotted with dilapidated, sub-$50,000 fixer-uppers and remodels north of $400,000 that tout proximity to the forthcoming Beltline.

That disparity creates a pinch. Especially with home prices in the vicinity of the Westside Trial doubling (and tax bills subsequently ballooning) in the last two years alone, as Atlanta Agent Magazine notes.

There may be no panacea, but the City of Atlanta has launched an initiative meant to help people burdened by the effects of gentrification and economic growth in neighborhoods just west of downtown.

The city is partnering with the nonprofit Westside Future Fund to launch what’s being called the Anti-Displacement Tax Fund Program, Mayor Kasim Reed announced last week.

The initiative will pay any property tax increases for qualified homeowners in Vine City, English Avenue, Ashview Heights, and Atlanta University Center communities. It’s designed to ensure that rising property values—the result of public and private investments these communities have been starved for—don’t force out current homeowners who can’t handle the burden of increased taxes.

Residents won’t have to pay back any funds received.

The application process is open until March 15, 2018, and payouts will begin sometime in the 2018 tax year, officials said.

Reed credited Tim Keane, Atlanta’s Department of Planning and Community Development Commissioner, with helping shape the program based on his experiences in Charleston with a similar initiative.

“The Department of Planning and Community Development is committed to achieving sustainable growth in Atlanta’s Westside neighborhoods,” said the planning czar in a press release. “As part of that sustainable growth, we must have programs and policies in place to ensure affordable housing and offer housing incentives and resources to our residents who need them the most.”

Money to help with Westside tax bills is being sourced from philanthropic donations. Contributors cited by the city include: the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation; the Chick-fil-A Foundation; the Georgia Power Foundation; Cox Enterprises; Pulte Group; Delta Air Lines; Georgia-Pacific and individual contributor Tommy Holder, chairman and CEO of Holder Construction Company.

[This is a method to keep the low income voters close.]
What does Mayor Kasim Reed look like?

Westside Future Fund was established in December 2014 out of the vision and leadership of Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. Recognizing the long-term growth inequity in Atlanta’s historic Westside, Mayor Reed committed to fostering transformational change through a collaborative approach.

[Why do I get the impression this is just a slush fund disguised as something else?]

Police allege that a white four wheel drive was deliberately driven into pedestrians at the intersection of Flinders and Elizabeth streets at 4:41pm today.

19 people were injured in the incident.

Acting Police Commissioner Shane Patton said that they arrested a 32-year-old at the scene who they say was the lone driver.

He was arrested by an off-duty police officer who was injured in the incident and taken to hospital.

    ABC Online summarises …

    What we know so far:

    – A white 4WD drove through a group of pedestrians on the corner of Flinders St and Elizabeth St, before crashing into a tram stop
    – Police say 19 people have been hospitalised
    – The driver was a 32-year-old Australian citizen of Afghan descent
    – He had a history of mental illness and drug abuse and came to police attention for a “minor assault” in 2010
    – A 24-year-old also arrested at the scene was not in the car, but was filming the incident and was allegedly found to have knives in his bag, police say
    – Police say they believe the crash was “a deliberate act”, but that they do not know the motivation
    – The scene remains cordoned off

    So they were Muslim terrorists.

Whatever happened with the Las Vegas shooter? We still know nothing.

Sometimes, just sometimes IT, we will never find out why. It just happens like this occasionally.

  204. Infidel Tiger

Yes, it’s not unusual for a building with more security and cameras than most cities to have no footage of a mass slaughter.

    Let’s move on.

  205. notafan

    The Las Vegas shooter?

    He dead.

  206. nemkat

    He was doing burnouts?
Crack down some more on illegal street racing, and it’s problemo solved.

  207. Crossie

Whatever happened with the Las Vegas shooter? We still know nothing.

Nothing to see there either, now move on.

Why is Daniel Andrews such a weird looking dork?

I mean look at the man, even for a pollie he’s a creepy looking wretch of a worm.

Couldn’t the Vic ALP find anyone else? Bracks and Brumby might have been disasters but they didn’t make your skin crawl like this one does.

There is nothing remotely personable about him. Yet they voted him in- Napthine was as bit wishy washy but seemed like a decent person.

Police Believe Today’s Melbourne CBD Attack Was Not A Terrorism Incident

Yeah and they thought the same about Monis and the ACL bomber. They’re lying turds.

How placid is the Australian public? It’s like we don’t give a shit about anything and allow the state apparatus to do what they want when they want.

At least a fluky voting pattern put Trump in the White House, which suggests a decent number of Americans are patsies.

    We seem to accept anything.

  211. Nick

Weird how the mental health lobby aren’t piping up right now to complain about the “stigma” of mental illness being associated with terrorism.

    Was thinking the same.

To those who scoff at the idea of a fix, ask them what happened to the Mosque driver in the UK.

  212. Infidel Tiger

    The Las Vegas shooter?

    He dead.

Yep. And we still know nothing of what happened that night. They still don’t have a time line and haven’t released any footage of him entering the hotel or the supposed shootout in the hallway.

    Makes no sense at all.

  213. Makka

    Mental illness for DSP purposes?

To find out so quickly he must be on a register somewhere.

  214. JC

Yes, it’s not unusual for a building with more security and cameras than most cities to have no footage of a mass slaughter.

    Let’s move on.

They have all the footage. They were never short of the stuff, but that doesn’t give away the motivation.

It was 22 July 2016 when Malcolm Turnbull did the media rounds with his new policy that terrorist incidents be approached from a “mental health” perspective. We’ve had very few “terrorist attacks” since then and a whole lot of “mental health problems” in conjunction with vehicle-caused injuries and fatalities. Wonderful thing about the “mental health” dodge: everything can be hushed up in the name of “patient’s privacy.” It’s also good for keeping the “terrorist attack” statistics down.

Cross-commenting here as I’m not confident that it will get through the moderators working the Bolt and Blair blogs.

    >> Triple J have made a very very large error here.

I gave up after they put the boot into Gayle Austin and turned the station over to relentless C-rap music.

I gave up on Triple J when their spotty-faced DJ said that nobody had ever seen the movie Tron.

The day will come that our elites pick up their phones in the morning and see that mohammed is the most popular name for boys born in yarragrad that year.

They will nod in satisfaction, having locked in fundemental transformation.

    Possible.

    Please.

    Come on.
He’d have to be on drugs.

Lizzie- sorry about trying to peg your festivities-
Much hilarity amongst the fir trees here in WIFO country. Usual greenery is either plastic Big W numbers, or dinky pines bought from the Lions club. Most femmes are straight into winding on the tinsel and baubles as soon as December hits, especially as Lions delivers from 20/11.
But there’s a new trend of husbands, but especially granddads and fathers-in-law rocking up with an epic tree poached from the roadside. Cue much eye-rolling behind their backs- the plastics now must be dismantled, plastic margarine buckets of sand and bricks must be cadged from building sites, the Swarovski has to be gingerly hung from uncooperative fronds that are both dusty and sticky with sap… but the kids love them, they’re bushy and bonzer and smell fantastic. And they drop needles like gentle snow.
And then word spreads, and other neighbourhood husbands- and fathers-in-law- yearning for approval wake up in the dead of night and take their toyotas up the hill to get their own genuine pines…. and the WIFOs mutter over their gin and tonics, bitter with the insubordination of it all.

According to #FakeNews, he was a MultiMillionaire from online Poker, The Invisible Man when it comes to sneaking 100 rifles plus ammo into a casino, and the SixMillion Dollar Man at rifle shooting, even tho it was the first time he’d ever handled a gun.

Reports said as high roller he used service elevator.

In any case why should internal hotel security footage be released to the general population?

Unless you alleging some sort of conspiracy, I don’t see that it matters.

Perhaps not every single metre of public space in the hotel has cctv.

    I don’t know.

I mean there were helicopters multiple shooters in that and other hotels even shooters in the crowd shooting people while being shot at themselves.

The wife never got charged, neither did the brothers despite all the rumours.

  228. Infidel Tiger

Hundreds more police officers are expected to patrol the streets of Melbourne’s CBD in the coming days.

Police believe the man drove down the tram tracks before ploughing into a tram-stop on the other side.

“We will not be defined by this,” Mr Andrews said. “We will go the cricket and the carols, we will spend what should be a joyous time with our families and we will of course be thinking of all those affected by this.”

Why will hundreds of officers be on patrol?

You told us it was just one guy with a few troubles at home.

    Are you fucking lying?

  229. notafan

Yes it does. It seems the FBI is now an end in itself. If Trump is inconvenient to the FBI then he must be investigated into impeachment. Therefore disappearing this whole thing must be convenient to the FBI. Could there be evidence of the shooter’s Democrat Party connections that must never come to light?

    Virtue-signalling?
Every time the interpreter’s hand went up to her mouth to do that quick twisty thing and back down again, I assumed she was saying “lock your lips, we all know it was a bearded male and ISIS modus, but don’t mention I-s-l-a-m”

  232. Baldrick

Why will hundreds of officers be on patrol?

In the hope of stopping muzzies with drug problems and mental health issues driving awkwardly into pedestrians.

  233. Rae

Less criticism of the signing lady please. Those facial expressions and head and body movements may look strange but they are important in communicating with the deaf. There is only so much that can be conveyed by hand gestures.

  234. JC

Yes, we might as well adopt it and give it a name then. I rather fancy Dingo. Remember Dingo ate my baby. This Dingo ate the whole of Vicpol.

  238. Lizzie, I ended up with a lounge cushion over my eyes to block out those two awful women.
Is there a logical reason to have the deaf signaller on the stage?
Who was the “stern-faced harridan” and what extra did she bring to the press conference?
(PS she flashed a big smile to someone as she left the stage. Playing a role.)

  239. For the first time I can remember the majority of middle-of-the-road people I know are openly talking about whether to believe the police.

That’s stunning. I can’t recall that happening in Australia before. The rusted on lefties have suddenly become the biggest police trusters in the land and of course righties are sceptical but the normal apolitical folk I know are openly questioning if they should trust the word of their own law enforcement officials.

Last time I saw anything like that level of instinctive distruat it was in Mexico.

  240. Arky

but they are important in communicating with the deaf

    Fuck the deaf.

    What we know so far.

There were 3 guys, no 2, actually a single 19yo, sorry 32 year old Australian citizen… hang on, Afghani australian who was doing burnouts before he accidentally hit 19 jaywalkers illegally crossing agaisnt the lights.

The first cop on the scene called it an act of terrorism but he is now on leave at Heard Island. We are still gathering info but it looks like 19 vicious thugs kicked the hell out a foreign looking straight a students car and dragged him on to the street he was only saved when Australia’s finest police force beat them away and whisked him to safety.
