This fuck has more lives than a stray black cat. (The parrot)

Jones always pads away queries about his age but company records reckon he’ll soon be 77. He’s in fair nick for his age, especially for someone who probably should be dead. In the past decade he’s had a brain tumour, melanoma and prostate cancer. And then, in June, he was knock, knock, knockin’… “Technically I died,” he says, picking up a chop and working his way along the bone. “Heart stopped and all that stuff.”

A year ago Jones had a major operation on his back, to treat an injury that had been troubling him since his days coaching the Wallabies. ………. “My back was hideous and it had been for years.” The pain continued for decades and he finally gave in and had the operation. “It was basically a whole back reconstruction, the longest back operation they’d done at St Vincent’s; I was on the slab for 13 hours.”

Justine Ruszczyk Damond case: Police say they need more time to investigate
    AP, News Corp Australia
    December 29, 2017 6:29AM

A MINNESOTA prosecutor said that he needs more time to decide whether to charge a police officer who fatally shot an Australian after she called 911 for help.

Minneapolis Officer Mohamed Noor shot 40-year-old life coach Justine Ruszczyk Damond on July 15, just minutes after she called 911 to report a possible sexual assault in the alley behind her home.

Her death drew international attention, cost Minneapolis’ then-police chief her job and forced major revisions to the police department’s policy on body cameras.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman had promised a decision by year’s end. But on Thursday, he said his office was “getting more information and evidence, and additional investigation must be completed.”

“The investigation and review of the case will not be rushed,” he said in a statement.

Freeman set no new timetable for a charging decision. His statement said he had spoken with Damond’s family to inform them of the delay.

“He expressed the deepest sympathies from himself and the Hennepin County attorney’s office and explained why there would be no decision by December 31. He also informed them that there is no timetable for when the decision will be made,” his office said in a statement.

He refused to take questions from the media, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Why am I left with the feeling that, if they just ignore it, the whole matter will just go away?

Invariably – and more quickly if alcohol is concerned – the qualities of Trump will come up. One of my defending tactics here has been to point out how useless the Clinton ideas and administration would have been – “more of the same” for the idiot punters.

However, a list of Trump’s achievements so far will go down well, if any Cat can point me in the right direction.

Sites like this are good, but I want basically 10 or whatever short sentences which I’ll print out; laminate and stick into a pocket for easy memorising and reference.

Watched part of an ABC program this morning which was about the demographic change in a Tasmanian town (forget the name).

The demographic change was a large number of retired mainland artists and yachties moving in and the changes that entailed. Politics weren’t mentioned but it was obvious the majority of the retirees were lefties.

It was interesting because these lefties have moved from the bollard protected mainland cities to a 100% homogeneous society. Be interesting to get their opinion on refugees, Muslims and such.

Justine Damond was a SJW who was vocal about refugees and stuff.
The suggestion was that, like many bleeding hearts, she didn’t have any up close and personal experience with the type of people she emoted about.
    Usually, that doesn’t matter.
It mattered at 3 a.m. in Minneapolis when she approached an Affirmative Action hire Somali in a Police car who shot her in the ”lower abdomen”.

Sounds like there was an unqualified (in both the training and the suitability senses) cop, terrified of getting shot, sitting in the cop car as it cruised through a dark area looking for an “attacker” of some sort, and she walked up out of the dark from behind the cops and smacked her hand down hard on the trunk and then kept walking around to the driver’s door, and the terrified cop shot her right past his partner’s face.

PDO cycles. Professor Akasofu’s graph. The 30 year period is just a guide; warm/cold phases may be slightly less or more. In addition the phases are asymmetrical; that is some warmer phases may be warmer than the colder phases are cooler. So in a period of several cycles the temperature trend maybe be positive despite there being an equal number of cycles.

During the 20thC there were 2 positive or warm phases of the PDO and only 1 negative phase; and the 2 positive phases were asymmetrically warmer than the negative phase was cooler. There is all your 20thC warming in natural cycles.

  62. In addition the phases are asymmetrical; that is some warmer phases may be warmer than the colder phases are cooler.

It is even simpler than that, Cohenite. The 30 year cycles of warming and cooling, or more correctly, half cycles, in turn fit into 150 year cycles. Also, the period is not exactly 30 years, nor are they all precisely the same length. Further, it doesn’t start all at once all around the globe. My observation is that the start of the change occurs in the North Atlantic, and moves southwards and eastwards from there, arriving in eastern Australia about four or five years later.

Put as rough dates, we had the Little Ice Age, followed by ~ 30 years warming 1850-1880, then ~ 30 cooling 1880-1910, but not back to LIA temps, then ~ 30 years warming 1910-1940, then ~ 30 years cooling 1940-1970, then ~ 30 years warming 1970-2000, bringing us to the peak of the 150 year half-cycle. Now we will have 150 years of 30 year cycles trending down to something like the LIA around 2150. All predictable and predicted.

The “Labour Theory of Value” is the cornerstone of Marxism, yet technology progressively proves it far more silly than can ever be imagined. It basically claims that , economically, a bunch of blokes digging a hole with their bare hands is exactly the same, value-wise, as some guy digging an equivalent hole with a back-hoe and being in the pub before lunch while the other idiots take a week to dig the same, smokos permitting.

A Marxist would tell you that you have to add in the labour that went into inventing and building the back-hoe, beery.

The labour theory of value is crap, but your example doesn’t show it.

The value of something is the product of how many people want the thing and how much they want it. If it has a high value then it is worth a lot of labour to produce it. Marx had it arse backwards. If you labour hard to produce something nobody wants, its value is zero.

  64. Zulu Kilo Two Alpha

They just can’t get over him. But why now? Because Obama said some pretty sounding shit that gave the morons at the ABC the horn – in Barry’s interview with Prince Harry (note: the ABC is criticising Trump for lacking gravitas). These scribblers are so epically stupid that they haven’t noticed that Obama, when President, was rather good at saying pretty things while serving up shit sandwiches. Here’s some more of the cutting analysis from the ABC ‘tards:

This week, in an interview with Prince Harry, the former US president said he believed the problems faced by the world indeed were solvable, and he did not shirk in the face of them.

Obama blathered on with some Obamaesque waffle that impressed the ABC kiddies mightily. Their conclusion:

He sounded entirely presidential — and, in one sense, he still is.

The chaos that has surrounded Donald Trump’s first year in office has presented his predecessor with an opportunity that no president has received since Franklin Roosevelt in the 1940s.

Mr Obama, in effect, is serving a third term as president because the wildly unpredictable Mr Trump simply isn’t playing the part that Americans, and the world, have come to expect from a US leader.

O RLY? Pretty bloody presumptuous to say Americans think that way. Democrats, maybe, but others seem to think he’s doing pretty well.

And the fucking morons at the ABC think Obama’s serving a third term in the eyes of the world on the strength of an interview he did with Prince bloody Harry. Rabz doctrine now.

A Marxist would tell you that you have to add in the labour that went into inventing and building the back-hoe, beery.

The labour theory of value is crap, but your example doesn’t show it.

The Labour Theory of Value works provided you start with some assumptions:
    * The system must be in steady state.
    * Technology is at whatever level and is not changing (i.e. part of the steady state assumption).
    * There are no unions or professional associations that lock-up any industry.
    * All people are born with roughly equal ability to learn and do a job.
    * The “value” needs to include components of all input effort (e.g. education, tools, equipment, capital, etc).
    * No job is intrinsically more difficult or unpleasant than any other job.

The point is that, with incentives encouraging people towards higher paying jobs, thus in the long run more people will want those jobs and supply will always balance out. That’s presuming there’s no obstruction that prevents people doing those jobs. For example, if lawyers earn a lot, more people want to become lawyers and if no Bar Association exists to keep out the newcomers then supply evens out and the price of a lawyers only reflects the input labour in terms of studying law, buying books, getting a funny gown, etc.

The “steady state” assumption might be looked upon unfavourably, but many economic theories use it… like all of classical economics for example.

Anyone know what resulted from the coppers pushing around the girls?

    Be honest.
They were Swedish girls and used to it.
They were just disappointed it was white cops not refugees.

  82. C.L.

Anyone know what resulted from the coppers pushing around the girls?

Yes. Superintendent Karen McCarthy – a woman, obviously – endorsed bashing women:

‘Officers simply took actions that were required to bring the matter safely under control and keep the majority of the crowd safe.’

There was apparently no “matter” to bring under control.
Those present say the trouble was started by police – including by an officer who punched a woman in the face.” After multiple police attacks on women, they copped a barrage of bottles – which they deserved.

I’m also wondering whether there was a racial element to the police aggression against women and whites.

  83. Ragu

But, before you bang down hard on the cop car in the dark, consider that the cop inside might be unfit to be armed, but armed. I’m hoping the cop goes down hard

A female calls 911 saying she thinks a female is being assaulted. Said female waits for the patrol car and when it passes by bangs the cop car as a signal to stop. She walks to the front side window clearly identifying herself as a female whereby she gets shot.

In among that bullshit. Why would any perpetrator this side of alpha venturi bang on a cop car and walk around the vehicle?

  95. Tel

The value of something is the product of how many people want the thing and how much they want it. If it has a high value then it is worth a lot of labour to produce it. Marx had it arse backwards. If you labour hard to produce something nobody wants, its value is zero.

The labour theory of value was not from Marx, he was using a well established theory at the time, and if anything Marx messed it up by not properly understanding the assumptions, and then going on to insist that the real world should be forced to conform to his theory (but Marx wouldn’t be the only person guilty of that).

If a lot of people want something then TEMPORARILY the price goes up, but not in a steady state, because all that happens is more people go into production of that desirable thing. Let’s suppose haircuts become enormously important and desirable for some reason, so the wages of a hairdresser goes up, but then more people want to learn to become a hairdresser so they can get those high wages so the wages come back down again (and with people leaving other vocations it balances out).

So in steady state, there’s no way for a profession to command higher wages than all the others unless it can actively keep people out (once you account for the lost wages spent training up for that profession, but training is labour where you just get paid later).

But because it’s an alcohol free zone it required grown men singling out women for assault and arrest.

  100. DrBeauGan

Nuts. It works only insofar as the labour is done to satisfy demand. If a man works for two hours to dig a hole and then for another hour to fill it back in, his three hours of labour has produced nothing. Which is what it is worth.

You’ll likely discount this as you’ve discounted everything that doesn’t fit your own view, but . . .

What the hell can they investigate? There were three people there. One is dead. One is the shooter, who is saying nothing. (Were I his lawyer, he would be saying nothing even louder.)

The Minneapolis police policy on cams wouldn’t cover this. You turn them on at the beginning of any interaction. They were just pulling up to the call.

Not necessarily. The thing may not even exist. The people may not know they would want it if it did exist.

If the thing doesn’t exist then at that particular technology level then it never can exist, because that’s what long term steady state is all about. The economy happens but no new things happen.

It was worth going to great trouble and expense to make the first smartphones.

Maybe yes, maybe no, there’s no way of measuring that because no individual got to decide whether to live in a world with smart phones or a world without smart phones. But that’s besides the point because any and all technological changes break the steady state presumption. That’s true for all classical economics for what it’s worth. None of it supports a theory that spans technological eras with a continuous price structure, and it’s questionable whether it even makes sense to attempt such a measurement.

From the Daily Mail Australia 17th July 2017:
The police officer who shot and killed an unarmed Australian woman in mysterious circumstances after she called 911 to report a disturbance behind her upscale Minneapolis home has been identified.

Mohamed Noor, who joined the department in March 2015, reached over and shot Justine Damond, 40, multiple times from the passenger seat of his squad car while she spoke to his colleague on the drivers side in a back alley.

Both officer’s bodycams were off and the squad car camera not recording when Damond – who was in her pajamas – was killed at around 11.30pm on Saturday, just a month before she was due to marry.
So, there was a verbal interaction with the driver, then Noor shot her multiple tomes.

Just be wary about factoring in Rent Assistance. Most of these people qualify for public housing, which, dollar-wise, is a much better deal. Especially where more than one house is involved and you can sub-rent the spares out. Public housing recipients don’t qualify for Rent Assistance.

Ah, but what if you have a private lease agreement signed with your cousin who’s been here a few years longer and has a nice property portfolio already? As far as I’m aware, Centrelink don’t monitor your bank account to see where you’re sending rent. Or perhaps you pay your rent in cash.

I’ve been fighting a metastasised version for most of this year.

Mater, are you eligible for health care under the new “No Liabilty” scheme that DVA are offereing?

  178. nemkat

Is he also refusing to co operate with the investigation? Should think he’s got a vested interest in making sure LooneyTunes isn’t ever allowed so much as a cap pistol.

According to the Hennepin County Attorney yesterday, one of the witnesses is dead, Noor is exercising his 5th Amendment Rights [to remain silent], and ”the other cop is giving us shit”.
He also claimed that ”we have to prove our case beyond reasonable doubt before laying charges, and that won’t happen before December 31.
In other words, it’s being memory- holed.

  179. Zulu Kilo Two Alpha

    Yes, Zulu.

Thanks, and all good wishes for a full recovery.

    No.

Given that service medals are engraved with the name, and Service number, of the serviceman they are awarded to, you’d have to be more then unfathomably moronic to steal a set, surely?

To be honest what does it matter if the persons claiming that form of welfare answers to Allah or is an atheist? It’s equally terrible.

True, JC, but if you come from a culture that has multiple wives and a belief system that sees nothing wrong with lying about your situation and defrauding either people or government then you will probably get more (initially) from those who use said culture as justification.

Atheists and others will follow suit because, hey, it works for other groups so why not us?

Sure, the real problem is and has been leftisim. Knock out leftism and most of your problems go away.

    “sentimental silverware”.

Like that old hand-me-down teapot which I have, and was always given a polish before the Vicar came to take tea and scones. Tarnish would have set in by the time he left, and then to black again within a week.

    True.
Monetary value is close to zero.
    Like a Degree in J’ism.
But it was the glib use of the term “sentimental silverware” which gave me the shits.
    It was the glib reference

Tarnish would have set in by the time he left, and then to black again within a week.

Our silver cutlery in its special felt container doesn’t do too badly, but the big silver serving spoons go black and brown very fast. I am always polishing them up to use when visitors come for a meal.

Isn’t ‘tarnish’ a great word? It carries such a sense of oxidization, of time claiming its rights over something that should be shiny bright, of the mirror finish being older and getting spotted with black.
There can also be the sense of a creeping evil, a hidden badness, as with Dorian Gray’s portrait.

A tarnished reputation was once something a girl had to be careful about.
Not easily fixed with a bottle of Silvo either, unlike my spoons. 🙂

Is he also refusing to co operate with the investigation? Should think he’s got a vested interest in making sure LooneyTunes isn’t ever allowed so much as a cap pistol.

My impression is that he’s told them, multiple times, exactly what he knows, over and over, and they’re basically now trying to trip him up – to catch some inconsistency between many statements that they can threaten him with – and so he’s wisely not taking the bait, and he’s telling them to go pound sand. Which is exactly what his lawyer is telling him to do. If they can point to even some minor inconsistency between two of his fifty statements, they can charge him with something and then point to him and claim they can’t make a case against Noor because the guy’s stonewalling them.

I don’t think he’s hiding anything, and I don’t think he had a very good relationship with his partner the shooter. Sounds like no one had a good relationship with the guy – a Somali with attitude. None of his neighbors have anything good to say about him.

But, by gawd, we’re diverse! (Remember, Noor was hired by the (nation’s first!) lesbian, Native American chief of police who left a string of harassment and mistreatment claims from other lesbian cops she used and discarded on her way up, who really needed the Somali support because the gay support was lagging. If it’s any consolation, the mayor fired her for this shooting.)

Not sure where the Australian papers got this BS about some “conversation”. Here‘s the least-speculative blurb I’ve seen on what happened.

Yes, it sits on a blackwood tea trolley, my Tea Service from Hell. Today, as I passed it, it looked at me with its evil scrollwork and little family insignia, saying “polish me – or else”. It now resembles pewter.

    NATIONAL BREAKING NEWS
Vic man pleads for return of WWII medals

    Benita Kolovos
    Australian Associated Press
    2:51PM December 29, 2017

A Melbourne man has returned from Christmas holidays to find his house ransacked and his dead father’s war medals missing.

The medals, along with army dog tags, jewellery and a large number of electrical items were taken from the Glenroy home between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, while homeowner Allan was away.

“I was distraught to see what had happened to the house, but more traumatic was the fact that his medals were stolen and the likelihood of us recovering them is minimal,” Allan, who didn’t want to give his surname, told reporters on Friday.

His father was awarded the medals for his World War II service in the Australian Army, while the dog tags were from his time as a prisoner of war in Changi.

“He never really spoke about (World War II) because it was such a traumatic memory for him,” Allan said.

“The medals were one of the things we could hold onto to remember him and what he did for Australia.”

Allan had intended to pass the medals on to his children but fears he won’t be able to.

Police warned thieves the medals are easily identified.

“They are extremely identifiable … and there’s no financial value in those items,” Senior Constable Regan Oxford said.

“All its done is ruin Christmas for a family.”

From the Oz. “Thieving” , “lowlife” and “douchenozzles” are words that spring to mind, regarding the offenders.

  226. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Beare

Ahoy! That she blows!! I can see the tip of the big North Star capsule as the Ovation rounds the bend and starts down our way. She’ll be in full view in a minute. Hairy has just arrived home, so he’s having a celebratory beer in memory of the many he had on this ship recently. We’re out on the front verandah, a slightly damp New Year’s Eve, sticky too, and will count up the decks to eleven, where we were. It was an interesting cruise, although not one I’d readily repeat.

  227. Rae

By the way guys and gal. E.coli is not the same as the Norovirus that causes problems on cruise ships and liners.

  228. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Beare

A big low blast on the horn as she passes Watson’s Bay and round to the Heads. North Star rising again, lucky people in the capsule right now have a tremendous farewell view of Sydney. And once more, the horn. Must be some silly people in tinnies in the way.

“I’ve only been up your way once. It was the week after Thanksgiving. I resolved at the time I would never come back in winter.”

I’ve made that same resolution every year since about 1970 or so, but then summer comes and wins me back. We’re all Swedes and Finns and Norwegians, so brain damage is just assumed.

    Minnesota, USA. Right below Canada.

Meant to type ‘thar she blows’ in true lubberly style, but no time to proof read. We have good views from all main rooms, including dining room where I am typing, but Hairy wanted me out there on the verandah with him pronto. What Hairy wants, Hairy gets. 🙂
