Don’t get me wrong. Joh was underhanded as fuck. Field was a patsy. But Joh did check all the boxes. He tapped a Labor man to fill the vacancy.

Don’t get me wrong, old Jo was so crooked that, if he swallowed a nail, he would shit a corkscrew, but the final result was the dismissal of the Whitlam Government, and I never shed any tears for that shambling mob of clowns.

First cab off the rank in SA should be a new HELE coal fired power station and the cancellation of all subsidies for renewable energy. That’ll halve the price of electricity in no time.

  3. Oh come on

In the long term the Whitlam dismissal hurt the conservative cause.

  4. Zulu Kilo Two Alpha

I’ve been in a state of quiet contemplation, Zulu.
I’ve got until the end of April to decide between open heart surgery, or not.

I’m sure a former officer and gentleman will make the correct decision, Memory Vault. Thoughts, and all good wishes with you.

  5. Rob MW

Looks like that South Australian voters just voted for blackouts of a different color. Yah……….

  6. Oh come on

He should have gone to the polls as the incumbent and lost the conventional way. We wouldn’t be saddled with the St Gough mythology if the standard electoral toilet flushing had have been applied. The dismissal has left a tonne of lingering what ifs for subsequent generations of progressives to hang their hats on. It impacts us today, and it will impact us in the future.

  7. Up The Workers!

Vale Jay Weatherdildo…no more playing “little Dutch Boy” for him!

  8. Ubique

The new SA government would probably welcome suggestions from Infidel Tiger and other illustrious Cats as to how it might best settle the score with its former leader Martin Hamilton-Smith who defected to Labor for 40 pieces of silver and a Ministerial appointment. Hamilton-Smith saw the writing on the wall and didn’t seek re-election today.

  9. First cab off the rank in SA should be a new HELE coal fired power station and the cancellation of all subsidies for renewable energy.

Well, at least the stand-up comedy routines are improving here at the Cat.

  10. Oh come on

If a Jeff Kennett was to be the new SA premier, I’d be a bit enthusiastic – maybe. But it’s another Napthine. Another Trumble. This is the cookie cutter Liberal leader.

The lesser of two evils logic isn’t convincing these days. And it isn’t even clear what the lesser of two evils is, anyway.

  11. And it isn’t even clear what the lesser of two evils is, anyway.

    That’s easy.

I saw what you did there..

On one of my electoral “how to vote” handout days, the Animal Liberation lady and I got talking. She asked me “did I like cattle?” I nodded and then she said “with gravy?”
In one small step she had taken me from being a nice animal lover to a disgusting animal killer. I gave her full marks.

  14. Zulu Kilo Two Alpha

I’m being assured, on another website that, if you give a political party your first preference, you are obliged to follow their ‘How to Vote” card, in allocating your preferences, otherwise your ballot is declared “null and void.” Fuck Me Swinging. How did we ever reach so low?

  15. sdfc

Fuck Me Swinging. How did we ever reach so low?

If you believe that shit you don’t deserve to have your vote counted.

  16. Rebel with cause

After 16 years of Labor, the SA public service will be infested so deep with Labor supporters that the Liberals will feel like they have started work in a union office. Good luck to them, it’ll be the Aegean stables of government. Most pubes will be saying they just have to last 4 years before Labor is returned.

  17. areff

    Albert Field, a remarkable man

  18. EvilElvis

Why not join all conservative groups under the Australian Conservatives banner?

They’re not all conservative groups for a start. If you want a broad church I give you exhibit ‘A’, the liberal party. That’s going well.

Bernardi may be on a slow burn but at least he seems to be getting credible grassroots candidates. Not the nutters that Pauline has let slip through and not the going for a seat anywhere Debbie Robinson’s. Bernardis candidates will need a cycle to get traction, but should be reasonable quality.

  19. Surprised to see no LDP in Batman.

Actually haven’t heard much from them in a while. Are they struggling?

  20. None

Well Faye I just smiled at the Animal Justice leaflet queen (complete with cute dog on leash) as she approached and said, ‘hey I eat animals for food’ and then stared at her dog. She did a U turn

  21. Memoryvault;

I’ve been in a state of quiet contemplation, Zulu.

    Go for it mate.
Demand they do a video and do it under local so you can watch.

  22. Up The Workers!

To “Oh Come On” at 11.54pm:

You may be right – the new S.A. Liberal/Laboral Premier might well bear more resemblance to the Rip van Winkle twins Ted Bailed-Out and Dennis Nap-time than to Jeff Kennett, but don’t despair.

    It will grow on you.

    Just sleep on it.

    They both did.

And if you DO despair, you could always go to “Beyond Blue”, where Jeff Kennett’s successor, one Juliar Gillard can hold your hand and say: “Aw, diddums!”.

  23. Tom

Well Faye I just smiled at the Animal Justice leaflet queen (complete with cute dog on leash) as she approached and said, ‘hey I eat animals for food’ and then stared at her dog. She did a U turn

Thanks, None. I’d have paid money to be there.

  24. Herodotus

Di Natale blames AC preferences for loss in Batman. Nice pat on the back for them.

  25. nemkat

He also reckoned his wife’s scones were better than those of Lady Flo.

According to Wiki, he was a widower at the time.
The problem forLabor was that Colston was next on the Ticket at the 1974 DD, he claimed the vacancy, and it was too much hassle to arsehole him.
Meanwhile, Joh had the Police file on the fire at Carters Ridge State School in 1962, where Colston was the only teacher and the only suspect, and he got Tom Aikens to read it out in the House.
Pat Field was a trougher too, he’d been State Secretary of the Furnishing Trades Union since the early Sixties, a paid position that wasn’t subject to Elections.

  26. Boambee John

In 1975 Joh installed Alfred Field into the senate when an ALP senator died,

From memory, I think that was Pat Albert Field.

  27. Des Deskperson

As a kiddie growing up in Batman, I can remember when it wasn’t always safe Labor.

Sam Benson, a former merchant marine captain , was elected as a Labor member in a 1962 by-election, the reportedly much-loved Alan Bird ALP retired.

However, he was dis-endorsed by Labor for supporting the Vietnam war. He stood as an Independent in 1966 and was surprisingly reelected, albeit on preferences. Still, he must have appealed to an electoral that was then mainstream working class – a lot of the men rode push-bikes to work (I suppose a lot of people in Batman also ride bikes to work the days.) – with a sprinkling of white -collar lower middle class.

He retired at the 1969 election.

  28. None

Well looks like SA will still have an obstructionist Legislarive Council -although the postals might swing things a teeny bit. Florey who looks ike they just ditched their 20 year Labor candidate who also had the donkey vote because she turned indy after Labor preselection stoush. Florey voted for a Labor dude who spent most of his life in the BBC and lives on the other side of town. That tells me rusted on Labor. South Aussies are mental. AC got 5% in that hell hole. Top of all the minors.

If it’s bypass surgery, go for it. After your recovery you will have whole new plumbing and will really feel the difference. It’s much better than taking Drano for the rest of your life.

  30. Up The Workers!

Wonderful news that Ged Kearney won her entirely unearned A.L.P. Seat in the House of Reprehensibles.

Assuming a conservative annual taxpayer-funded salary, lurks, perks, rorts, schemes and scams amount of about $200,000.00 per annum, if the whole of her Parliamentary Remuneration package were to be Garnisheed for the purpose from day one, it would only take her 100 years to pay off the whole $20 MILLION that her convicted criminal former Party Federal President and A.C.T.U. Senior Vice President, Mike Williamson, embezzled from those ripped-off sucker members of the H.S.U.

Maybe Bull Shitten, another well-heeled “Battlers’ Buddy” like herself, could help her out by shaking the odd shekel or three out of some of those large brown paper bags of employer cash he accumulated back in the days when he used to negotiate E.B.A. Agreements for the lowly-paid likes of Chiquita Mushrooms, Unibuilt and Cleanevent staff? (See T.U.R.C. Final Report for details)

  31. Entropy

    South Aussies are mental

A generalisation that speaks to a higher truth.
This is just a slight uniparty variation where the political fights will be really over who gets to eat the most cream.

  32. Rae

In 1975 Joh installed Alfred Field into the senate when an ALP senator died,

Yeah but no. It was actually Albert Patrick Field.
Seems you “recalled” the 8.04 am comment incorrectly.

Chiquita used to be known as United Fruit, longtime owners of Guatemala, El Salvador, and some other Shitholes.

  34. Robber Baron

Peanut Head with his fake smile looks like he’d rather be somewhere else but is hanging around in hope of picking up a root from among the starstruck Young Liars groupies.

Batman has plenty of homos and dykes to choose from Billy. Plenty. Go nuts!

  35. egg_

Malinauskas tipped as new opposition leader. This is a Don Farrell prodigy. I am open to this guy because he spouts climate change but is pro nuclear.

There’s hope for the tard State, yet.

  36. stackja

To me ALP SA energy policy should have been taken with a grain of salt and battery.

  37. Ubique

with a grain of salt and battery

Stackja, unfair that a bloke should be confronted by such a pun first thing Sunday morning.

  38. Up The Workers!

    Ironic, isn’t it.

Devout Apocalyptic Catastropharian Jay Weatherdildo from the Mendicant State of Greater Snowtown, bulldozed their coal-powered Power Station and put his faith in Elon Musk’s squillion-dollar carpet-bag of second-hand Eveready ‘AA’s.

When they started running down (as everybody told him they would) the Weatherdildo ran out of puff and went flaccid, so the people “Hollered for a Marshall” – a somewhat more reliable power-source of longer standing and batter repute.

If new Premier Marshall now wants to further boost his States’ power-grid security, I’d suggest he recover the carcases of the newly-flaccid Weatherdildo and all his dead, newly unemployed A.L.P./Green dildos/vibrators, and insert them all head-first into those famous Snowtown bank-vault barrels; fill them to the brim with sulphuric acid; insert copper electrodes in each and wire the electrodes in series, then plug it into the S.A. grid.

At long last the A.L.P./Greens will finally be making a POSITIVE contribution to the State power grid, in addition to their traditional negative contribution. And if the Fraud Squad ever manages to lay hands on the shifty carpet-bagger who sold the concept of a battery-powered, rather than coal-fired power station Grid, you can stick him head-first into one of those barrels, too, and let him do the work his expensive batteries couldn’t.

Turnbull now spins the outcome of SA as an endorsement of his federal energy policy. Predictable spin from Turnbull. Anything to keep his RE dream alive and fulfill his obligation to whomever pulls his strings to deliver on an ETS. https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/breaking-news/sa-libs-win-endorses-fed-energy-plan-pm/news-story/dc8548f13fd51a38d1b0282408e13ea5

  42. Helen

Whetherdildo said s0mething that was true – all people make their own case for the outcomes of elections.

  43. overburdened

Media generally and weatheri/ell whatever his name was in particular has forgotten to mention the Gerrymander that makes the victory impressive. Sounds like grassroots.
Apologies if the wise ones have already pointed this out. Just sayin and out of here

Yes mem, I saw that. Didn’t take the credit-snatching Malturd long to make something from nothing out of the Lib win. If he thinks that’s an endorsement of his NRG crap, all he’s done is remind the Australian public (at least the ones who read) that there’s still a steaming pile of ordure waiting out there for us. Grub.
