A takedown of YAM in the Speccie:

    Yassmin confirms she’s a narcissist
    Corrine Barraclough

    25 May 2018

There is pretentious, and then there is Yassmin Abdel-Magied. Writing for The Guardian, she proudly escalates narcissism to a whole new level. Her target is “white men” (of course), and they get to play the role of “oppressor” (oh joy).

“Those with the highest levels of privilege are often viscerally afraid of losing it. It’s the fear that if they relinquish power, the tables will turn on them, the terror that they will become the oppressed,” she begins.

Something, something, “subjugating others”, blah, blah, “structurally oppressed for generations”, something, blah “prejudiced behaviour, blah, something, “structural inequalities”.

If that all sounds extremely familiar, that’s because it’s from the familiar script dished out and circulated among the pretentious left.

She proceeds to zoom her overblown pomp in on a Twitter exchange with comedian Josh Denny. He wrote that the phrase “straight white male” was this century’s “N-word”.

Anyone human can see he has a valid point.

Not YAM, who actually is as sharp as SHY (Sarah Hanson Young), if you strip back the conceited charade.

“Many, including me, pointed out that this statement betrayed a lack of understanding of history and context,” YAM writes.

Nope. Au contraire it displays a complete understanding of the context of desiring true equality rather than considering denigration of any group progress.

The reason #MeToo has lost popular support is precisely this; people are sick of loathing, attacking, disunion and division. In short, we can see this plan isn’t about equality. And that, my dear YAM, has nothing to do with lacking understanding of history or context.

The tone of her piece is the self-important bore at a dreary dinner party who believes they are too good for everyone around them.

Her words drip with a smugness as she preaches about tiresome plebs who are so profoundly laborious in their ineptitude and stupidity.

“I’ll be the first to admit, there is a certain satisfaction that comes from delivering the perfect Twitter takedown,” she writes.

Really? Is there? I, for one, disagree.

“Who doesn’t love the dopamine hits as the likes, re-tweets, and gifs of standing ovations flood in,” she continues.

And with that YAM confirms she is an attention-seeking narcissist.

“It feels good to be right, and to have your community reward you for it,” she says.

Nope. We’re not all on that page either.

This is a holier than thou piece that reveals more about its author than society. And, it certainly confirms YAM should not be given a place on the steering committee if we are to make any progress stepping forward in unity.

“This is about honouring ourselves and making sure we are building the best society for us all,” she writes. “It won’t be easy, but I truly believe it’ll be worth it.”

Save yourself the trouble, dear. What seems to have escaped her is the fact we would all be instantly better off without such sneering strategy and egotistical agenda.

Strayan Story was interesting… to be continued next week IIRC
Cold case whodunnit about a young Tamworth abo done in by drug lords, it seems.

Interesting link, Eggy. It was about the time I met Mrs A. We have both watched it, but can’t recall the incident. Strange as you tend to remember this stuff. Some of the faces are familiar. Mrs A saw one of them today wearing a T-Shirt with “Don’t forget the mob” emblazoned on it.

I’ll look forward to the next episode.

The corner of Wilburtree and Edward Streets is a stone throw away from where I was living at the time. They showed some footage of the “Police Boys Club” and implied that the boxers at the time might be implicated? The guy who was running it at the time lived 2 doors away. I went to school with his son. He’s a lawn bowler, so I’ll ask him what the real story is.

Other observations. Numpty ABC reporter doesn’t know East Tamworth from South Tamworth. Footage was shot at the new Mecure Hotel. Thanks taxpayers.

This was Country Music Week. Yes, bikers would arrive in their droves. Until they got driven out. Family is partly responsible for that. There was a rape at the Locomotive Hotel at that time plus plenty of other shit going on.

Other things don’t “add up”. Getting into “Dominos” during Country Music Week for a 17 year old with false ID would have been near impossible. The Carrs would have had the licensing police all over them. Besides, the queue would have been extremely long, and the bouncers at the time were pretty ruthless. Wilbertree is a fair hike from Dominos. And it’s nowhere near East Tamworth.

Not sure how drug crops in the Nundle State Forrest is related. I personally know both those blokes that got busted (seperate incidents and years apart). Although, one of them did live in Edward Street at about that time.

The place this guy was found was basically at a “reserve” just out of town on Duri Road. Popular with blokes smoking cones because there are multiple entries and exists. My theory is that they went for a few cones, and the pissed and stoned bastards rolled the car and their mate got killed. They laid his body on the tracks (note the towel under his head) hoping that he might “wake up”. They fucking panicked and tried to make it look like a suicide.

I don’t understand the “blood in the boot” bit. I have an Aboriginal mate at the Bowls Club. He will have a fair idea what really happened. You also have to remember that there is some pretty serious feuds going on in the local Aboriginal community. There were about 100 of them “smashing it out” in a residential street not that long back. Fence paillings and machetes. Tribe vs tribe. I’ll also ask the copper.

Again, I recall that era very well. So does Mrs A. We are both scratching our heads as we don’t recall any reporting at the time.

In fact even the extract that you posted is a wild exaggeration of already wild rumours that were reported in the ancient world. As any first year history student would know, accusations of incest, cannibalism and the like we’re common ways of discrediting political or religious opponents. Even Christian’s were accused of the same by Romans ( because they referred to each other as brother and sister) and yhe Romans also made the same accusations about barbarians (because they were barbarians).
Naturally in today’s world or little snowflakes would have melted into a pool of distress but the Ancients didn’t mince their words if they didn’t like you.

It works, with Qantas making some decent money out of it and the passengers getting to their destination as cheaply as possible.

I read the reviews of the book listed in your link. LOL

    Here read this.

I am a professor who had the intention of reading this book to see if it might suffice for a course entitled “Sexuality in World History”. I opened the book with a few misgivings, as the book jacket clearly states that Nigel Cawthorne is neither a historian nor an academic. He is a journalist of some sort, with unknown credentials. While the “Sex Lives of Roman Emperors” has many bits of titillating information, the writing is so bad that it makes reading the book painful. In fact, when reading chapters, they seem like a laundry list of Roman debauchery with no clear topics or transitions. To make matters worse, the author continues to insert strange one-liners into the text either comparing these practices to modern ones or making insensitive sexual jokes. I was shocked and slightly disgusted by his use of modern idioms such as cock, pussy etc. When writing a historical piece, generally one should try to avoid using such vernacular, as it makes the writing seem elementary and immature. I suspect that Cawthorne did not have the emotional or academic maturity or training necessary to write a work such as this. There is a reason that historians go through decades of training in order to approach subjects impartially and with a holistic eye towards concurrent regional and world cultures. This is certainly not a scholarly piece by any stretch of the imagination. If you are a scholar or simply want to know where Nigel Cawthorne got his information, there are no footnotes anywhere in site. There are very long passages without any attributions to Roman scholars or primary sources. For all of the above reasons, I believe Nigel Cawthorne may have done more harm than good to the history field by writing such a substandard book. If you are a casual lay reader who is simply looking for a bit of excitement, which may not be entirely accurate, and can get beyond the atrocious writing, then by all means, have at it!

Never ever believe him. For instance he shorted big time during the 16 election result and lost a few billion. Whenever he makes a call, it’s always related to his own position.

A surging dollar and a capital flight from emerging markets may lead to another “major” financial crisis, investor George Soros said, warning the European Union that it’s facing an imminent existential threat.

Except that the dollar isn’t really surging. It’s stronger than the January lows but not hugely so. The US Dollar Index reached a low of 88 and it’s now ~95, about a 7% strengthening. That’s nothing big.

The “termination” of the nuclear deal with Iran and the “destruction” of the transatlantic alliance between the EU and the U.S. are “bound to have a negative effect on the European economy and cause other dislocations,” including a devaluing of emerging-market currencies,

There’s no destruction of the alliance and the only reason there is tension in Europe is because the will of the Italian people isn’t being followed due to the slavish devotion to the EU by the President.

Soros said in a speech in Paris on Tuesday. “We may be heading for another major financial crisis.”

No we’re not. I think he’s feeling mortal at his advanced age and having panic attacks.

The stark warning from the billionaire money manager comes as Italian bond yields have jumped to multi-year highs and major emerging economies

Sure they have, but look at what the President has done.

including Turkey and Argentina are struggling to contain the fallout from runaway inflation.

Erdegan is a lunatic and Argentina should simply float the currency.

Soros, who has been the object of ire by the government of his native Hungary, saved his gloomiest outlook for the EU.

Sure, because he’s a leftist prick and people have had enough of him.

“Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong,” he said, citing the refugee crisis and austerity policies that catapulted populists into power, as well as “territorial disintegration” exemplified by Brexit. “It is no longer a figure of speech to say that Europe is in existential danger; it is the harsh reality,” he said.

Lol, What austerity are we talking about when every budget deficit in the West is pretty much at record highs?

Soros’s proposed remedy for some of the ills facing Europe is an EU-funded Marshall Plan for Africa, worth about 30 billion euros ($35 billion) a year, which would ease migratory pressures to the continent. He also proposed a radical transformation of the EU, including the abandonment of the clause forcing its member states to join the single currency.

Sure, that will fix things. LOl

“The euro has many unresolved problems and they must not be allowed to destroy the European Union,” he said.

Then stop preventing countries from leaving if they want to. Italy is now more likely to leave just because of the what the Euro slave has done.

The antagonist of the movie has a sexual desire for his sister. He asks her to “stay with him”, she replies that she will not. In one scene, he leans against her (demanding she open her mouth, which he touches with his fingers) and then slumps against her on a bed, but she leaves.

Brilliant essay on the Tommy Robinson scandal:

“Tommy this, an’ Tommy that …an’ Tommy go away”

Mark Steyn Steyn on Britain May 28, 2018

On Sunday morning I had the pleasure of appearing with Rowan Dean and Ross Cameron on their Sky Australia show, “Outsiders”, to talk mainly about the Obama Administration’s attempt to subvert the Trump campaign in the 2016 US election, and in particular the remarkable Anglo-Australian contribution to that effort. But, just before I came on (about 15 minutes in), Rowan and Ross addressed recent events in the United Kingdom and in particular the fate of, er, someone whose name they weren’t permitted to mention but who, um, had been gaoled for, er, something or other… This was somewhat astonishing to me, as I’d assumed empire-wide D-notices had lapsed with the passage of the Statute of Westminster. But mein hosts circled back, cautiously, to the topic toward the end of my interview – and I observed, as I have before, how in almost the entirety of the western world, whenever anyone draws attention to some of the more problematic aspects of Islam, the state cracks down not on the problematic aspects, but on the guy who draws attention thereto. In Britain and Europe, we are an incident or two away from literally “shooting the messenger”.

Rowan, Ross and I all knew we were referring to a gentleman by the name of Tommy Robinson. I expect many of you know that, too. But I doubt most Australian viewers had much of a clue about it, and I’m pretty certain the overwhelming majority of his fellow Englishmen are unaware of his fate. As readers may recall, I have met Mr Robinson just once, at an event at the European Parliament in Brussels. He is an engaging, charismatic fellow, albeit a bit rough-hewn for the refined sensibilities of the metropolitan media – although I thought he had the better of a rather somnolent Jeremy Paxman in this BBC interview.

Correct. In fact there is a good case the Younger Dryas was caused by ice melt with the fresh water impeding the incipient interglacial via truncated ocean currents; winds no doubt played a part in that but the oceans were the driver. It’s a water world.

Except the dollar isn’t really surging

    Oh, I think it is. Remember, the dollar is like a tide. It’s not so much about the speed it moves , rather than it’s direction and the inevitability of further advances once momentum takes hold. There are several powerful influences on the USD at the moment;

    – Repatriation of money to the US ie Trumps tax cuts.
    – The strength and perceived future strength of the US economy as expressed in the 10 Yr bond.
    – Movement away from the Euro – because Italy provides yet more evidence that it’s really a basket case.
    – Foreign investment into the US.
    – Strengthening USD and bond rates creates it’s own strengthening dynamic in that if your debts are in dollars, you will need more of them to service the debt – demand for yet more dollars.
    – Outright speculation – Banks and company Treasuries around the globe love a trend and any opportunity to win pips here and there will be jumped on, with massive leverage to boot.
    – The Fed is divesting – buyers need dollars take up purchases.

When the 6 Trillion per day Forex markets spots a real trend with juice it’s very difficult to turn.

Like a tide , it starts its new direction almost imperceptibly and then it really moves. I expect we’ll see 120 on the DX within a couple years. EM’s holding USD debt might be is a spot of bother.

    They didn’t look destitute.

They’re not. Pretty good people (like in every race). But you always have ratbags, regardless of colour.

Tamworth is a little different, and it all stems back to the floods in Nyngan in the 1970’s. Our Mayor at the time decided it would be a good idea to “rescue” the unfortunates and bring them here by the train load. Mind you, he was also the biggest “builder/developer” at the time. Refer to the ABC reports about “Coledale”, better known as “Vegemite Village”. A Government funded ghetto, with our mayor as the major beneficiary. Thank you Whitlam era. Your “compassion” was selfless.

The ABC doesn’t understand the history. They are gobsmacking fucking idiots.

So what happened? The local Aboriginal families are still fighting the “invaders” to this day. This is what happens when you dump a bunch of “immigrants” on someone else’s turf. Colour doesn’t matter.

In the early 21st century, they tried again with Somali immigrants. This time it was a Federal Government Initative. Tried to integrate them into “Coledale”. The local Aboriginals saw them off. No way they were putting up with that shit. Belted the crap out of them. Welcoming Melbourne deserves everything they get.

    Nothing learnt from history.

And before I get labelled a “racist”, I suggest you read John Oxleys diaries.

Repatriation of money to the US ie Trumps tax cuts.

The big cahoona of this year’s investment flow.

    But nope.

That flow is already in US Dollars, so it’s only a tax recognition of earnings from offshore to onshore. As earnings are made overseas by US firms, they are converted to US dollars and left with foreign or US bank branches as US dollar deposits. Conversions have already occurred.

Nice clear thinking by you, but there’s no cigar.

  76. Bruce in WA

While in Ireland recently, we went to Brú na Bóinne to see Newgrange and Knowth. These are prehistoric passage tomb sites, older than the pyramids. They were built by people who had not discovered the wheel, although they had discovered bows and arrows and flint-tipped spears.

Newgrange is aligned so precisely that the passage and chamber are lit with the light of the rising sun on the winter solstice. Tens of thousands of people enter a lottery to be lucky enough to stand in the chamber and watch the light creep towards them.

Some of the giant stones used in its construction weigh up to five tonnes. They don’t appear to have been quarried, but rather selected, then transported some 20 km or so to the site, carved, and placed in position. Speculation is that they were floated from the coast up the river, slung beneath rafts, then hauled by people, or perhaps oxen, to the construction.

Newgrange and Knowth are amazingly complex structures, built over generations for reasons we will in all likelihood never know. The people had a knowledge of astronomy, mathematics, animal husbandry, building, preserving food, making alcohol and God knows what else.

The comparison with Australian Aborigines is inevitable.

Be interesting to know how Obama found pallet loads of “cold hard cash” to deliver to Iran. It’s hardly a small undertaking.

It was their money, in the sense that the US froze Iranian assets after the revolution. The cash would have come from the US treasury in nice crisp packs, so it wouldn’t be difficult for the mullahs to split it up among themselves.

The mechanism for freezing the assets would have meant the US Treasury, at the time, would have corralled all Iranian funds.

Our Paris office once was caught by the US Treasury attempting a transaction with a Serbian bank. They could deal with this bank in other currencies other than the US dollar. Any US Dollar transaction has to go through US money centre banks. It was really funny because the funds were frozen and it cost the bank around 500K in legal fees to get the money back. It had to go through the DOJ and took 12 months. 🙂 The reader lost his bones that year for fucking it up.

So I think it wasn’t so much about winning an election through dirty tricks, but about something even dirtier, looking for a way to prosecute and bankrupt Trump after he lost, as a warning to others. An awful lot of people involved in this should wind up in jail, disbarred, and unemployed.

Look at what those fucking D’rat morons have done to themselves in California. The GOP could pick up seats because of their malignant stupidity.

BLUE WAVE? Dem money floods Calif. primaries to avert electoral disaster.
The total outside spending in those June 5 primary races had eclipsed more than $8 million as of Friday, according to an analysis of Federal Election Commission filings by The Hill. The high-dollar spending is in the three GOP-held seats represented by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher and retiring Reps. Darrell Issa and Ed Royce, all of which are viewed as potential pickup opportunities for Democrats.

California’s “jungle” primary system pits all candidates, regardless of party, against one another in a single primary, with the top two vote-getters moving on to the general election. Democrats fear that crowded Democratic fields will split their party’s vote in some races, allowing Republicans to take both election slots.

Now outside groups are spending heavily in the races in an attempt to avert Democratic shutouts.

Given that California Democrats created the jungle primary system in order to further marginalize Republicans, the irony is schadenfreudelicious.

Radical Islam wants to kill you or convert you, Islam wants to convert you but doesn’t seem to mind if the radicals kill you in the effort. Live and let live ‘cultural Muslims’ are more likely to revert to Islam under the pressure of radical Islam. Many Muslims I know came to Australia to escape the horrors of Islam in Pakistan, Algeria, Iran and Iraq. They are horrified that the Islam they tried to escape has followed them here.

    John,

    Same, same.

It was years ago I mentioned that!
And yes, the solid pigment was falling out of solution as the solvents fractionated off the film and the resin became incompatible with the remaining solvent. Add one small amount of very slow evaporating solvent that the resin was soluble in, and the film remained stable until it dried.

Be very careful with your donation dollars. Some so-called respected agencies are scum. From The $Oz:

Sex-for-food report kept hidden by UN

More than a dozen international aid organisations are implicated in a sex-for-food scandal documented by an official UN report that has never been published.

The 84-page document, produced by research teams working in refugee camps in West Africa for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and Save the Children in 2001, identified more than 40 aid organisations “whose workers are alleged to be in sexually exploitative relationships with refugee children”.

Many were small local charities but the list included 15 international organisations such as the UNHCR and the World Food Program, Save the Children, Medecins Sans Frontieres, Care International, the International Rescue Committee, the International Federation of Red Cross Societies and the Norwegian Refugee Council.

The British Commons international development committee also has the report and has put it at the centre of its inquiry into sexual exploitation in the humanitarian sector. The investigation was set up after The Times of London reported in February on the use of prostitutes by Oxfam workers in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.

The researchers in West Africa found aid workers were “among the prime sexual exploiters of refugee children, often using the very humanitarian assistance and services intended to benefit refugees as a tool of exploitation”.

Food, oil, access to education and plastic sheeting for shelters were traded for sex, with families feeling they had to give up their teenage daughters to abusers “to make ends meet”.

Researchers emphasised the allegations could not be fully verified and required further investigation. They added: “The number of allegations documented, however, is a critical indicator of the scale of the problem.”

Incomplete details relating to claims against 67 people were passed to senior UNHCR officials “in confidential lists”. It is understood that fewer than 10 were dismissed and none prosecuted.

The UNHCR wrote to all the NGOs and agencies mentioned and made them aware of allegations. It also sent investigators from UN headquarters. They identified 43 separate abuse allegations in West Africa. The UN said it had initiated “specific preventive and remedial actions”.

Many Muslims I know cam eto Australia to escape the horrors of Islam in Pakistan, Algeria, Iran and Iraq. They are horrified that the Islam they tried to escape has followed them here.

And yet they do jack shit to prevent the lunatics doing again what they did in the old country – and in fact help them destroy the new country, by refusing to speak out and help identify the trouble makers.
Islam: Inoculate, Isolate, burn the bodies.

    John,

Whether I’m right or whether I’m wrong but I see a disturbing confluence between Islam, UNaustralian Aboriginals and dark skinned folk from Africa.

The radical of them, which seems to be a largish percentage, are in fact some of the most racist people I have ever encountered and despite living with the benefits of a capitalist culture want to return to AD 700 or BC 40,000 or whatever the case but it’s fucking ground zero!

    Junk research with one purpose.

Hurricane Maria claimed the lives of 4,645 people in Puerto Rico last year and not the 64 long pegged by the island’s Government as the official death toll, according to a survey of thousands of residents by a research team led by Harvard University.

But not so junk that TheirABC won’t give it a run.

This matters because it is an example of how a cartel cracks.

A conspiracy to defraud the proles, by pretending there is a difference between cartel mined diamonds and chicom lab made diamonds and Russian mafia lab made diamonds, and by manipulating supply to push up prices is finally dissolving.

The last gasp is the stamping of debeers lab diamonds to make mined diamonds better because they are unstamped will last as long as it takes ebay to start selling chicom unstampeddiamonds just as good at a fraction of the price.

Don’t go buying any cheap gemstone mines.

    Comrades.

  180. OWG;

They are horrified that the Islam they tried to escape has followed them here.

    The poor things.
    Victims again.
The one thing about Islam that has remained constant is their ability to portray themselves as the hapless victims of their own people, whereas the real truth is that the “Moderate Muslims” are just a recon unit for the lunatics who will always follow them. It’s the way Islam works, and it’s very, very succesful.
Islam is a memeplague. (That’s two Catallaxy neologisms this week! Do I get a prize?)

Their Australian quisling politicals class do not intend for the Australian dollar to be a stand alone currency into the future, just as they do not intend Australian borders to be enduring.

Sen Rithe immediately took umbrage, and asserted that such comment dithplayed a lack of rethpect for the tranthgender communidy.
