Horowitz’s testimony was very frank. He was clearly enjoying the opportunity to disclose information that had been ‘lost’ in the ‘editing’ process.

Trump’s personal bagman, who pays off the floozies he cheats on his wife with from a slush fund of corporate bribe money, delivers the finest comedy of 2018.

No, that would be Peter “We’ll Stop Him” Strzok being frog-marched out of FBI headquarters.

Special Agent David Raynor was “stabbed multiple times” and “shot twice with his own weapon,” according to local media reports.

    That’ll be suicide, then.

  5. Would you say that the parents are demons to be exorcised, CL, or merely vermin to be exterminated? Either way, it makes it much easier for you to pretend they are not human.

This is such a dumb set of inferences to be made from CL’s argument. No, to judge their conduct as monstrous evil is not to assert the parents are either demons or vermin or inhuman, but to recognize anyone that places their children willingly in harm’s way with a phone number scrawled on their child’s shirt is just that, monstrously evil.

  6. Asking for political asylum is not a crime, CL.

If that is all they were doing, they could present themselves at the US embassy or consulate in their own country, not by traversing a number of intermediary countries (they could even present themselves at the US embassy or consulate in any of these countries) and illegal crossing the US border.

Carpe Jugulum – thanks for the toon Sukiyaki (ue o Muite Arukou), the one that always cheers your Japanese father-in-law, that you put up last night. I haven’t heard it for years. It is still sad but hopeful and sweet.
Those two weeks recently in Hokkaido are already a fading memory but so enjoyable. You have chosen well to live in such a beautiful place within a very ordered society where people are polite to each other. We’ve finished the Sake we brought home with us (developed quite a taste for it), I’ve put away the souvenir chopsticks and I’m well stocked with Japanese hotel toothbrushes for over-nighting teenagers (they never remember to bring their own).

“As the son of a Polish holocaust survivor, the images and sounds of this family separation policy is heart wrenching,” Cohen wrote. “While I strongly support measures that will secure our porous borders, children should never be used as bargaining chips.”

Ah yes. Because the children are being taken straight to the ovens and the parents to forced labour camps.

And why are they escaping into the States?

Special Agent David Raynor was “stabbed multiple times” and “shot twice with his own weapon,” according to local media reports.

    That’ll be suicide, then.

An FBI Special Agent, David Raynor, was murdered with his own service weapon after being stabbed multiple times. His wife, Donna Fisher, was also found dead next to her husband

Murder suicide. Seems David and Donna had a ‘domestic’.

Trump brings multiple LOLs in Minnesota:

Trump Taunts Protester Forcibly Removed From Minnesota Rally “He’s Going Home to His Mom, Say Hello to Mommy!” (VIDEO).

President Trump continued to taunt the protester.

“Get him outta here! Out!” demanded Trump.

The protester had long hair so the President said, “Was that a man or a woman? Because he needs a haircut more than I do”

Entering a country irregularly after crossing the borders of several safe havens actually is a crime under US law, monty.

Mexican citizens require a visa to enter; if they wish to apply for asylum there are avenues to do so other than illegal entry.

“honestly, this aspiration term, it mystifies me”.

Aspiration is when a convicted heroin runner wants to shoot to the top of the NSW public service based on his wife’s Labor connections. An example of aspiration is wanting to become Director General of the Department of Education and Training without being able to qualify for the police’s “Working with Children” check.

While the wickedness of Mao, Lenin and Stalin is unknown to these youthful idealists, they are well schooled about the wickedness of the extreme right: 73 per cent of them are well aware of Adolf Hitler and his iniquities.

    Hitler is extreme right?

The Nazis are the extreme right…OF SOCIALISM. Hitler was of the socialist right, rather than the left.

    FFS, how many times do I have to point out the fucking atom bomb with the words “of Socialism” inscribed on it? I’ve been using this to devastating affect for years now and it drives leftards insane because;

    1. It’s true
    2. There is no response to it, it is undefeatable
    3. It’s exquisitely simple

We’re so bloody lazy we can’t even add two words to “far-right”? No wonder we’re always losing.
Every single time someone says “far-right” meaning “Nazi” you add “of Socialism”, EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!

Saying Nazism is of “the left” is an argument that cannot be won, the left marched through the institutions (Unis and schools) and peddled the “far-right” lie decades ago, it’s done. So we beat it by being smarter, because we are, except we’re not because we’re still running round like headless chickens screaming “Nazism is leftist! Nazism is leftist!” No, Nazism is the far-right OF SOCIALISM. Repeat a hundred times then USE IT.

When we start doing that I might introduce everyone to the second utterly lethal argument that follows on from every “far-right”/”Nazi” accusation, but I don’t want to hurt our puny, pussified conservative brains just yet, we still haven’t learnt how to say two simple words.
    Baby steps, baby steps…

Justin Trudeau imprisons children behind razor wire …

    CBC reports:
Canada aims to avoid detaining migrant children, but it happens.

The U.S. is the focus of international outrage for its policy of separating children from their parents and detaining them after they cross the border in search of asylum.

But Canada has also detained migrant children — and in some cases, has restricted access to their asylum-seeking parents — despite its stated policy to do whatever possible to avoid it…

The Canadian holding centres, which are off limits to the public, resemble medium-security prisons. They are surrounded by razor-wire fences and kept under surveillance by guards.

There are three such facilities across Canada, in Vancouver, Toronto, and Laval, Que. In some provinces, asylum seekers are detained in prisons.

A recent McGill University study found that detention can be a “frightening experience” for children, leaving them with “psychiatric and academic difficulties long after detention.”

Inside, boredom is “pervasive,” as children are often left “idle, sleeping or lying on the couches for long periods during the day.”

  23. egg_

Special Agent Raynor was leading US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s and FBI Director Christopher Wray’s investigation into the murder of Detective Sean Suiter, who he believed was silenced before he could testify that the Obama administration was criminally complicit in allowing guns to flow into the hands of criminals on the Mexican border.

  24. Senile Old Guy

Entering a country irregularly after crossing the borders of several safe havens actually is a crime under US law, monty.

It is illegal under international law. Refugees are required to seek asylum in the first safe country they enter. This is why almost all “asylum seekers” in Australia are illegal immigrants: they have traveled through other safe countries to get here.

  25. Mother Lode

Yeah, pretty sure crossing the border is a crime.

Claims of asylum are a defence and triggers all manner of other protocols, but it is still a crime.

It would be strange for people to suddenly have a right to be in a country just for saying a few words, when the other way to claim the right involves submitting personal information, guarantees, submitting to checks etc.

It would be like running a car dealership and letting paper take a car by either

Oh my. Jake Tapper (of all people) tweets a breaking ACLU report on the Obama administration’s abuse of children in detention:

    The report:
ACLU OBTAINS DOCUMENTS SHOWING WIDESPREAD ABUSE OF CHILD IMMIGRANTS IN U.S. CUSTODY.

WASHINGTON — Documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union featured in a new report released today show the pervasive abuse and neglect of unaccompanied immigrant children detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The report was produced in conjunction with the International Human Rights Clinic at the University of Chicago Law School.

“These documents provide a glimpse into a federal immigration enforcement system marked by brutality and lawlessness,” said Mitra Ebadolahi, ACLU Border Litigation Project staff attorney. “All human beings deserve to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their immigration status — and children, in particular, deserve special protection. The misconduct demonstrated in these records is breathtaking, as is the government’s complete failure to hold officials who abuse their power accountable. The abuse that takes place by government officials is reprehensible and un-American.”

The report is based on over 30,000 pages of documents dated between 2009 and 2014. The documents were obtained by the ACLU Foundation of San Diego & Imperial Counties and the ACLU Foundation of Arizona through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit co-counseled with Cooley LLP. The documents feature numerous cases of shocking violence and abuse against migrant children, many of whom arrived in the United States fleeing violence in their home countries…

The documents show numerous cases involving federal officials’ verbal, physical and sexual abuse of migrant children; the denial of clean drinking water and adequate food; failure to provide necessary medical care; detention in freezing, unsanitary facilities; and other violations of federal law and policy and international law. The documents provide evidence that U.S. officials were aware of these abuses as they occurred, but failed to properly investigate, much less to remedy, these abuses.

    Obama:

Examples of the documented abuses include allegations that CBP officials:

    – Punched a child’s head three times
    – Kicked a child in the ribs
    – Used a stun gun on a boy, causing him to fall to the ground, shaking, with his eyes rolling back in his head
    – Ran over a 17-year-old with a patrol vehicle and then punched him several times
    – Verbally abused detained children, calling them dogs and “other ugly things”
    – Denied detained children permission to stand or move freely for days and threatened children who stood up with transfer to solitary confinement in a small, freezing room
    – Denied a pregnant minor medical attention when she reported pain, which preceded a stillbirth
    – Subjected a 16-year-old girl to a search in which they “forcefully spread her legs and touched her private parts so hard that she screamed”
    – Left a 4-pound premature baby and her minor mother in an overcrowded and dirty cell full of sick people, against medical advice
    – Threw out a child’s birth certificate and threatened him with sexual abuse by an adult male detainee.

    ABC headline:

Eurydice Dixon murder: not all men are violent, but all men can prevent violence

This is a lie. It is another sexist attack on men (by a man). I may be able to prevent violence in some situations but certainly can’t in all. To be fair, the author had a bad childhood:

As a child I felt that my family’s experience of intimate partner violence was normal. I can vividly recall the time my father struck my mother with such force that she ricocheted off a cupboard and lost consciousness. Yet we were like every other family, I thought.

That’s not normal and his father was evil.

Our culture enables violence against women, and all men have a role to play in fixing it. The background conditions which allow violence against women to occur are grounded in gender inequality.

No hum. Good old “gender inequality”, so a bit more male bashing. Which I pay for.

Fewer Births Than Deaths Among Whites in Majority of U.S. States

WASHINGTON — Deaths now outnumber births among white people in more than half the states in the country, demographers have found, signaling what could be a faster-than-expected transition to a future in which whites are no longer a majority of the American population.

The Census Bureau has projected that whites could drop below 50 percent of the population around 2045, a relatively slow-moving change that has been years in the making. But a new report this week found that whites are dying faster than they are being born now in 26 states, up from 17 just two years earlier, and demographers say that shift might come even sooner.

“It’s happening a lot faster than we thought,” said Rogelio Sáenz, a demographer at the University of Texas at San Antonio and a co-author of the report. It examines the period from 1999 to 2016 using data from the National Center for Health Statistics, the federal agency that tracks births and deaths. He said he was so surprised at the finding that at first he thought it was a mistake.

Trump has now issued an EO that is illegal on its face, and will attempt to blame others when it fails in court. That’s his MO: utter incompetence, and a complete lack of conscience. Modern “conservatism”!

Nothing technical grub. The babies in cages photos are from the Obama era; jon favreau, obuma’s speech-writer put up the first photo and then took it down. Then the aclu reported on child mistreatment from 2009 – 2014. Obuma had in place a tag and release program in contradiction to the Reno v Flores 1997 case and William Wilberforce Trafficking 2008 act. Trump’s presidential edict that children not be separated from their nominal parents is within his constitutional powers. In the meantime schumer and Pelosi have refused to approve either of Trump’s DACA bills.

    Late in the day.

Police in the UK gave away ‘hard policing’ after the Scarman Report into the 1981 race riots, which blamed the riots on the heavy use by police of targeted stop and search under the ‘suss laws’. Although extremely effective in cutting down on street crime, this was all racist and fascist and discriminated against the disadvantaged and black yoof innit.

Scarman’s principle recommendations were ‘community policing’ and positive discrimination throughout government.

The political consequences of losing control of the streets were such that all levels of UK government seized on the recommendations like scripture – and the rest is history. Given the business model for resettlement fees, this classic “pull” must continue to generate $$$$$. Shameful disgusting Dems.

Addressing the White House press corps on Monday, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen set the record straight on the number of immigrant children separated from their parents at the border.

Nielsen affirmed the “vast, vast majority” of the 12,000 minors detained by federal authorities were transported to the U.S.-Mexico border by human smugglers.

“So I want to be clear on a couple of other things,” Nielsen said. “The vast majority, vast, vast majority of children who are in the care of HHS right now — 10,000 of the 12,000 — were sent here alone by their parents.”

“That’s when they were separated. So somehow we’ve conflated everything,” she added. “But there’s two separate issues. 10,000 of those currently in custody were sent by their parents with strangers undertake a completely dangerous and deadly travel alone.”

  121. Zatara

The Dem party and the MSM has had this whole ‘border crisis’ plan in a can for a year. It was stored in a big glass case that said “In case you are getting your asses kicked by Trump break glass”.

The procedures never bothered them when Obama was encouraging unaccompanied children to cross the border en-mass (does anyone remember that>? Of course not because the Dems and the Press don’t want to fark up their meme.) and those procedures haven’t changed since.

The US – Mexico border is 1,954 miles long. It consists mainly of remote, mountainous desert. Terrain very, very hostile to human life. There are 50 ports of entry along that border or one every 40 miles and therefore absolutely no excuse for a legitimate asylum seeker to cross illegally.

Anyone crossing that border in between those ports of entry is doing so illegally. People who chose to risk their families lives by crossing the desert rather than fronting up at a port of entry do so for nefarious reasons, not asylum. By US law illegal crossers cannot apply for asylum for a very simple reason, you broke the law. Why would a true asylum seeker cross illegally instead of at the ports of entry?

Someone mentioned that illegal entry is a misdemeanor. Yes it is, for the first offense and assuming there are no other charges. It is a misdemeanor that will get you 6 months in prison and oh by the way, there is no such thing as a family prison so if you roll the dice hoping for sympathy because you brought your children with you it’s your freaking fault when the kiddies end up in what amounts to foster care.

Surprise! The state doesn’t have more responsibility to your children than you do. Especially when it’s not your state.

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

The children aren’t being tortured or ‘caged’ by the US authorities. That’s Dem propaganda spread by their pet MSM. The authorities are doing the best they can with an absolutely shit sandwich they have been fed just as they have since Obama started the children’s illegal invasion.

Meanwhile, the US taxpayers are being bled to pay for it all. Again.

President Trump has his eye on the ball alright – 48 hours ago kiddies in cages (albeit reheated photos first cooked up four years ago) looked like it was gaining undeserved momentum. In recent days I watched as he wheeled out an impressive Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen (Homeland Security) to give a deserved, pointed lesson in truth and accuracy to the Fourth Estate dilettantes of the White House press group – they weren’t interested in listening. So yesterday he trotted out an executive order to cease separation of illegal minors, which pulled the rug right out from under the shrill critics.

For the past hour I’ve been conscious of Donald Trump speaking in the background here, addressing a rally of the faithful in Minnesota a few hours ago. Former British spy Christopher Steele visited the State Department in October 2016 and briefed officials there about his work on the infamous anti-Trump dossier, it was revealed on Wednesday.

“Based upon our review of the visitor logs at the State Department, Mr. Steele visited the State Department, briefing officials on the dossier in October 2016,” Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr said during a hearing held to review the U.S. government’s response to Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Steele’s visit to Foggy Bottom in Washington, D.C., prior to the election has not been previously reported.

Burr revealed Steele’s visit during an exchange with Victoria Nuland, who served as assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs in former President Barack Obama’s administration.

Nuland was the State Department official who in late-June 2016 signed off on a meeting between Steele and the FBI’s legal attaché in Rome. Nuland was familiar with Steele’s previous work on Russia- and Ukraine-related issues. (RELATED: Former State Department Official Emerges At Center Of Dossier Drama)

Steele began investigating President Donald Trump in June 2016 on behalf of Fusion GPS, an opposition research firm that was working for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

A former MI6 officer with experience in Moscow, Steele wrote 17 separate reports for the 35-page dossier. The first report was filed on June 20, 2016. The last one is dated Dec. 13, 2016.

Nuland said Wednesday that she first saw memos from Steele’s dossier in mid-July 2016.

“I was first shown excerpts from the dossier, I believe in mid-July of 2016. It wasn’t the complete thing, which I didn’t see until it was published in the U.S. press,” she told Burr.

Nuland has said in previous interviews that she and other State Department officials referred the dossier to the FBI. Burr’s revelations suggest the agency maintained interest in Steele and his report much longer than previously known. (RELATED: Nunes: ‘Major Irregularities’ In State Department’s Handling Of Trump-Russia Info)

“This needs to go to the FBI, if there is any concern here that one candidate or the election as a whole might be influenced by the Russian federation. That’s something for the FBI to investigate,” Nuland said of the State Department’s response to the dossier in a Feb. 4 interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
Nuland said Wednesday that she “actively chose not to be a part” of the October 2016 briefing. She also claimed that she “was not aware of [the briefing] until afterwards.”

The State Department’s handling of the Steele dossier is being investigated by at least one congressional committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Republicans on the panel have questioned what Nuland and other State Department officials did with the Steele information.

Another subject of interest in that investigation is Jonathan Winer, a longtime diplomat who left the State Department in 2017.

Winer has acknowledged that he met Steele during the summer in 2016 and discussed the retired spy’s Trump-related work.

Winer, who has known Steele since 2009, passed summaries of Steele’s dossier to others at the agency. He gave the summary to then Secretary of State John Kerry. It has previously been reported that Kerry was briefed on the dossier. It is unclear if he met with Steele during the former spy’s visit to State in October 2016. (RELATED: John Kerry Was Reportedly Briefed On The Steele Dossier)

Winer was also a source for the only two journalists to write articles based on Steele’s allegations prior to the 2016 election. The journalists, Michael Isikoff and David Corn, revealed their contacts with Winer in their recent book, “Russian Roulette.”

The State Department did not respond to a request for more information about Steele’s October 2016 visit.

The left filth keep shooting themselves in the foot. Too many own goals to count.

Would you employ this nutter after she is re-structured out of her DoJ job? What an asset she would be to your law firm.

Meet DOJ employee Ms. Allison Hrabar.

Last night DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was eating dinner at a local restaurant in Washington DC when a rage-filled activist mob went after her and her husband. The mob are members of the violent MDC-DSA group: Metro DC Democrat Socialists of America. The lead agent within the mob was Ms. Allison Hrabar; who is also an employee of the Department of Justice.

Ms. Allison Hrabar was very excited about the confrontation and took to twitter to share her joy. Her twitter handle is: @allisongeroi The Daily Caller has more:

One of the activists who chased Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen out of a Mexican restaurant Tuesday night over the Trump administration’s immigration policies is an employee of the Department of Justice, The Daily Caller News Foundation has confirmed.

Members of the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America crashed Nielsen’s meal with a demonstration full of chants and other outbursts.

One of those participants, Allison Hrabar, actually works for the Trump administration — as a paralegal in the DOJ. […] The Washington Examiner spoke with Hrabar Wednesday and she defended her behavior as off government time and a use of her First Amendment rights.

“If you see these people in public, you should remind them that they shouldn’t have peace,” she told The Examiner. “We aren’t the only ones who can do this. Anyone who sees Kirstjen Nielsen at dinner, anyone who sees anyone who works at DHS and ICE at dinner can confront them like this, and that’s what we hope this will inspire people to do.”

[…] Hrabar has worked at the DOJ since July 2016. Prior to that, she was a student at the selective Swarthmore College where tuition runs over $50,000 annually. She previously attended a charter school in Arizona. (read more)

To Help Iran, Angela Merkel Tries to Pull a Fast One With Swift
U.S. sanctions won’t bite until Tehran can no longer accept oil payments from European buyers.

    By Richard Goldberg and
    Mark Dubowitz
    June 20, 2018 6:16 p.m. ET

As the U.S. moves to reimpose sanctions on Iran, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is working behind the scenes to undermine the effort. How President Trump responds could determine whether his strategy to put maximum pressure on the Islamic Republic will succeed or fail.

During briefings in Washington, German officials have indicated their goal: to ensure that Iran remains connected to the Swift system—formally called the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication—that facilitates global financial transactions. By protecting Iran’s access to the Swift network, Germany hopes to preserve Europe’s ability to pay for Iranian oil, and receive payment for European exports, in contravention of U.S. sanctions. The Germans know that any maximum-pressure campaign against Iran cannot succeed if Iran remains connected to Swift.

Last month, in light of “U.S. sanctions which could target EU entities active in oil transactions with Iran,” the European Commission encouraged European Union members to explore the idea of sending direct payments to the Central Bank of Iran. Access to the Swift network makes this possible. If such a payment were transmitted, the U.S. could designate the European country’s central bank as a violator of sanctions, blocking its access to dollars and isolating it from the international financial system. German leaders are betting the Treasury Department would not take the economic risk of doing so.

German leaders may not have considered, however, the American alternatives. Treasury could designate individual central-bank officials as sanctions violators, freezing their U.S.-based assets and denying them entry to the country. Or other U.S. law-enforcement and regulatory bodies could take action. For example, federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York, as well as prosecutors from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, have imposed serious penalties against European banks for facilitating illicit Iran-related financial activities. New York State’s Department of Financial Services could pursue similar action.

If a European central bank became a channel for payments to Iran, the risk is that other countries—China, Russia, India—would adopt a similar approach to evading U.S. sanctions. The Trump administration’s strategy to put pressure on the Iranian regime would slowly unravel.

The solution is to cut off Iran’s access to the Swift network. The Treasury Department has given Swift until Nov. 4 to disconnect Iran’s central bank and other Iranian financial institutions that are under sanctions for illicit activities. This action is perfectly appropriate. Swift’s corporate rules prohibit its users from engaging in “conduct which is not in line with generally accepted business conduct principles.” In the case of Iran, flagrant examples include financing the Assad regime in Syria, subsidizing terrorism through the Quds Force, building ballistic missiles, and abusing human rights.

Since Swift provides the financial-messaging service for the European Central Bank’s Target2 settlement platform, ECB regulations should apply here as well. The ECB’s terms and conditions for Target2 require users to comply with all obligations to prevent money laundering, terrorism financing and nuclear proliferation. If Iranian banks are under sanctions for these activities, they should not be allowed to clear euro transactions.

In 2012, facing pressure from Congress, Swift asked the EU to issue a regulation ordering it to disconnect Iranian banks. The EU obliged but rescinded the order in 2015, as reconnection to Swift was a key concession of the Iran nuclear deal. This time around, Swift won’t have the face-saving luxury of an EU order, since Germany would block any such initiative. So what else can the Trump administration do to force Swift’s hand?

Swift is a cooperative, and its board is made up of banks from around the world. That gives the Treasury Department enormous leverage. Under American law, the Treasury can impose sanctions on Swift’s staff, officials and directors. That could include freezing their personal assets and restricting their travel to the U.S. The U.S. could cut off their employers from the American financial system. The Trump administration could create legal trouble for the two American banks represented on Swift’s board, Citigroup and JP Morgan .

Swift operates under the laws of Belgium, and the National Bank of Belgium is responsible for its daily oversight. The Treasury could declare either of them an entity of money-laundering concern. Unless Belgian officials order Swift to disconnect designated Iranian banks, the U.S. could hold them personally responsible for aiding and abetting the evasion of sanctions.

Such steps may seem draconian. But Mr. Trump’s strategy to put maximum pressure on Iran depends on the robust enforcement of sanctions. As such, the U.S. has no choice but to move aggressively against noncompliance—in Berlin, in Brussels and around the world.

Mr. Goldberg is a senior adviser at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, where Mr. Dubowitz is chief executive.

Strengthened hate speech laws pass NSW Parliament in ‘great day’ for Australia

Inciting violence against a community or person based on their race in New South Wales could result in three years in jail under new laws which have passed State Parliament.

The Keep New South Wales Safe Alliance, a coalition of about 31 community organisations and leaders, has been lobbying for the changes for three years, saying that previous provisions in the Anti-Discrimination Act had not led to a single prosecution.

They described the passing as a “great day for the people of New South Wales … and Australia”.

The bill makes it a crime to “publicly threatening or incite violence” on the grounds of race, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, gender identity and intersex or HIV/AIDS status.

Individuals who incite violence against a community or person based on their race could face up to three years in prison and an $11,000 fine.

The Alliance’s spokesman, Vic Alhadeff, has been striving for change for more than 15 years with the Jewish Board of Deputies and is “exhilarated” it has finally come.

He said the old law was so complicated as to be entirely unworkable and there have been a number of incidents in recent weeks and months which have shown the need for the new laws.

“One group on the far right which identifies itself as a Nazi group has been openly calling for death to gays, death to Jews, death to people who do not accord within its philosophy, [and] at the other extreme there’s an extremist group, again which has openly called for deaths to Jews,” he said.

“The NSW Government to its credit has identified that gap in the legislation and has put together a law which navigates very carefully between freedom of speech and the right not to be subjected to violence.

“[I’m] absolutely exhilarated that this has come to pass, it’s a great day for the people of New South Wales and a great day for Australia.

“Every Government in this country should be looking at this legislation as a precedent and giving serious consideration to introducing it.”

Attorney-General Mark Speakman said the opportunity for harsher sentencing had been a long time coming.

“We’re dismantling significant barriers to prosecuting appalling and often vile actions of those who’d incite violence and police will now investigate these offences from the very beginning,” he said.
