What I love is the way that we have kids killing themselves and others driving way above the speed limit and the government decides the trick is to reduce speed limits – which will be obeyed by everyone except the ones they are supposedly targeting.

I am not sure if they think accidents are a result of average speeds, or if they think that kids decide what reckless speed they will drive at as a function of the posted speed, not testosterone, thrill, and a pronounced inability to fully assess risk.

Next time some arsehole – josh or turdball – tells you solar and wind are better for the environment remind them of this:

The manufacture of PV panels requires the use of small—but still significant—amounts of solvents that have Global Warming Potential numbers around 20,000 times that of carbon dioxide. Nitrogen trifluoride was not covered by the first commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol, but is 16,000 times more powerful a greenhouse gas (GHG) than carbon dioxide, and sulphur hexafluoride is 23,900 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. This means that—on a life-cycle basis in Germany—Ferroni (2014) has suggested that PV solar is worse for climate forcing than gas or coal. Ferroni has calculated that lifetime (twenty-five years) emissions from solar energy in Germany (panels made in China, shipped to Germany, including transport and peripherals) is 978g carbon dioxide equivalent per kWh. For state-of-the-art coal the figure is 846g and for gas (CCGT) 400g.

Queensland police virtue-signal-arrest three Christians for their unorthodox interview of Muslims at the notorious Kuraby terrorist mosque:

On Wednesday, they were accused of entering the Kuraby mosque and harassing worshippers inside, including teenage boys.

The following day, there were heated scenes outside the Darra mosque, when members from the Pillar Baptist Church confronted Islamic leaders.

Police asked the church members to leave, before seizing video equipment and mobile phones from the group.

The entire incident on Thursday was captured by local television crews.

The group had claimed it wanted to interview Muslim leaders as part of a “documentary” it was making about Islam.

    Seized their video and phones?
The ABC is running this picture of the – er – incident. Looks like an ugly assault on Mulims, hey.

Acting Superintendent Craig Morrow confirmed the church’s pastor, Logan Robertson, was among those charged.

He said it was possible more charges could be laid.

“Investigations are still ongoing. There’s a lot of video material and recorded CCTV we need to go through and inquiries we need to make,” he said.

“Every person has the right to express their views, but the matter in which they’ve gone about that is not acceptable.”

“We hope by taking action quickly like we have, and assuring the community that we won’t tolerate this behaviour that this will be a deterrent in itself.”

Pillar Baptist Church members charged after Brisbane mosque confrontations.

A proposal to lower speed limits in the Brisbane CBD to 30km/h has renewed support this morning with Labor councillors pushing for a year-long trial.

A decade or two ago, a public servant fuckwit named Grant Dorrington* proposed 30kmh speed limits for suburban streets. Reckoned it would reduce the road toll.

Because everyone knows that the local contract murderer or armed holdup merchant will immediately rush to register all firearms as soon as the law is changed, and also make sure his firearms licence is current.

People who try to make an equivalence between any religion and islam are really off track. Islam is a military ideology run like a cult. It only does 2 things: kill and/or convert. Non-muslims have 3 choices: convert, pay the jizya or fight/die. In Australia we pay the jizya.

  72. nemkat

A proposal to lower speed limits in the Brisbane CBD to 30km/h has renewed support this morning with Labor councillors pushing for a year-long trial.

    Not a bad idea.

The problem with Brisbane is that it’s fast becoming very SubContinental.
These people have a self righteous mindset, to wit: a normal person, when driving down a suburban street, notices someone up ahead standing in the middle of the road. He slows down, and thinks to himself ”What is this c..t up to?”
The Subcontinental doesn’t operate this way in the same situation.
He will think ”I’m under the speed limit, this is a road, there’s no marked pedestrian crossing, therefore I am in the right, i don’t have to slow down, and this person must get out of my way.”

Restricting them to 30 k everywhere bar Main Roads will save lives, no question.

  73. Makka

I didn’t realise that Japan has the death penalty, nor that they do it by hanging.

Shoko Asahara, the doomsday cult leader who masterminded the Tokyo subway sarin attack in 1995, has been executed alongside six of his followers.

Thirteen people were killed and thousands more injured when members of the Aum Shinrikyo cult dumped bags of sarin on packed rush hour trains, piercing the pouches with sharpened umbrella tips before fleeing.

The nerve agent caused horrendous deaths and injuries, and prompted mass panic, turning Japan’s busy capital city into something resembling a war zone.

Born Chizuo Matsumoto, Asahara, 63, was hanged today after he had been on death row for nearly 14 years.

As many as 12 of his followers were still awaiting execution but it was not immediately clear how many had been executed today.

Looks like they do it in batches.

    He really can’t stand her.

President Trump said Thursday that if he were facing Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) during a debate, he would offer her $1 million to take a test to prove her Native American heritage.

“But let’s say I’m debating Pocahontas, I’ll do this,” Trump said during a campaign rally in Great Falls, Mont., referring to Warren by the racially charged nickname he gave her during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“I promise you I’ll do this, you know those little kits they sell on television for $2? Learn your heritage,” Trump said.

“I’m going to get one of those little kits and in the middle of the debate, when she proclaims she’s of Indian heritage — because her mother said she has high cheekbones, that’s her only evidence,” Trump continued.

“We will take that little kit, we have to do it gently because we’re in the “Me Too” generation, we have to be very gentle,” Trump said mocking the movement that seeks to expose sexual misconduct in media, entertainment and politics.

“We will very gently take that kit and we will slowly toss it, hoping it doesn’t hit her and injure her arm, even though it only weighs probably 2 oz,” he said.

“And we will say, ‘I will give you a million dollars, paid for by Trump, to your favorite charity if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian,” Trump said. “And we’ll see what she does. I have a feeling she will say no but we will hold it for the debates.”

Trump has repeatedly attacked Warren as “Pocahontas,” most recently doing so at a campaign rally last month in Nevada.

Nobody has told me about the Perth Çat meet either, Boris. I assume that this is because the others want to get pissed and talk about footy, and they rightly think I would not enjoy myself.
Try to think of not being asked as a well meant sparing you of hours of excruciating boredom.

Meet ups are fun. People moan about their leftie friends and enthuse about being free to say what you think IRL with like-minded souls and to put a face to commenters. In Sydney it is done via an email list. To get on the email list you get ListMaster Percy Popinjay’s email from Sinc and nicely ask Monsieur Percy (a long time Cat in a new costume) to put you on ‘the list’. Making a public announcement might leave the meet open to unwanted people, not genuine Cat commenters, arriving as imposters. If you have an email contact you can directly ask if you are too boring to get an invitation and start a split. 🙂

Yet another article about how San Francisco is now a poo-covered third world slum with absurd housing prices. It’s worth a look just for the photo at the top of the article, of SF in the early part of the C20th. Superb photo.

Anyway, it’s an interesting sociological experiment. How long will people continue to pay huge prices for homes which feature poo, needles, garbage and aggressive street people outside the door? Surely some market correction is due. Your average suburbanite almost anywhere in the US or Australia has more amenity, peace and safety.

Stupid liberals in California keep implementing policies which encourage demented street livers, like not arresting them for breaking the law and giving them money, food and facilities. So, how’s that working out?

I spent a couple of months in SF back when it was one of the best cities in the world to live in or visit. It’s very sad to see it turning into a cesspit, thanks to deluded Democrats and brain-dead liberals generally.

Disabuse yourselves, if you believe Trump is winning. He’s certainly won some battles, but the big kahuna of all is the EPA and his appointed Sec has been hounded out of office by the green left residing in the swamp. This is perhaps Trump’s greatest challenged – getting control of the EPA. Sure Pruit did some good work, but it’s not over cleaning out the mud by a long shot.

Chalk one up for the swamp. The permanent progressive state finally ran Scott Pruitt out of the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday, and the tragedy is that Mr. Pruitt gave his enemies so much ammunition.

President Trump announced on Twitter Thursday afternoon that he had accepted Mr. Pruitt’s resignation. Mr. Pruitt cited the “unrelenting attacks on me personally” and his family that have “taken a sizable toll on us all.” He’s right about unrelenting. Dozens of reporters have examined every furl of Mr. Pruitt’s forehead since he started the job.

Press dispatches have suggested that he misused private air travel, sent staff on personal errands and bought $1,560 pens, among dozens of other allegations. Mr. Pruitt says most of this was false or exaggerated, and no doubt much of it was. He’s also right that billionaires Tom Steyer and Mike Bloomberg were out to get him. You can add the EPA bureaucracy that leans left, the green lobby entwined with it, and their collaborators in the press corps.

But this is not news, or it shouldn’t have been to Mr. Pruitt, who claimed to understand he was the biggest political target in the Administration after President Trump. EPA is the Holy Sepulchre of progressive politics, and Mr. Pruitt posed an existential threat to command and control regulation that is the hallmark of the left’s environmental agenda.

Mr. Pruitt had to avoid even the hint of an ethical question, and he should have been walking around Federal Triangle handcuffed to a general counsel. Of particular odor were the claims that Mr. Pruitt used his official position to help his wife find work or even open a Chick-fil-A franchise. The daily assault undermined his effectiveness and ultimately his support at the White House.

The shame is that Mr. Trump is losing his bravest deregulator. Mr. Pruitt started to roll back the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan that attempted to re-engineer the economy with little effect on climate change. He clamped down on the “sue and settle” racket that allows environmental groups to impose policy through consent degrees. He moved to redefine the Waters of the United States rule that let EPA regulate ponds and potholes. Mr. Pruitt also sought to require more honest cost-benefit analysis, and he updated advisory science boards that have been stacked with members who receive EPA grants.

Deputy Administrator Andrew Wheeler will take over, though acting directors are inherently transitional and thus less powerful. Then again, Mr. Wheeler may be there a while: Senate Democrats would block the Dalai Lama to run EPA if Mr. Trump nominated him.

Fresh off its Pruitt defenestration, the left will be looking for new targets, so some advice to the rest of the Trump cabinet: Fly coach.

Pruitt is gone, a shame but he spent almost two years with death threats to him and his family and an endless stream of lies in the media about how he is corrupt. In that time, he did more to drain the EPA swamp than anyone has ever done. So now he wants his life back. Good for him.

It should be noted that in the EPA there has been a shadow group of employees who get together on social media and elsewhere with the explicit objective of undermining him and his/Trump’s policies. Remember that Obummer’s EPA heads ran secret email accounts, refused to release the data they made decisions on, and generally broke every rule in the book with impunity.

    I really hope Wheeler gets in, he’s an experience hand;

Pruitt’s goals as EPA administrator have centered on crafting (or destroying) policy in order to establish a friendlier regime for the fossil fuel industry. His efforts have included revising emissions standards for cars and trucks, increasing his control over the implementation of the Clean Water Act and weakening standards on hazardous chemicals.

It appears that Wheeler is on track to do more of the same — and his insider instincts and methodical nature could mean even more effective rollbacks. (A number of Pruitt policies are thought to be shoddily constructed and have faced significant legal challenges.)

As Trump said himself, “I have no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting EPA agenda.”

    NATIONAL AFFAIRS
Ian Macdonald, Barry O’Sullivan dumped in LNP Senate preselection

    The Australian
    5:59PM July 6, 2018

    Jared Owens
    @jaredowens

The Coalition has overhauled its Senate ticket ahead of the next election, dumping both Ian Macdonald and Barry O’Sullivan in favour of fresh talent.

Senator Macdonald, the nation’s longest-serving senator, was today replaced at the top of the ticket with newcomer Paul Scarr, 48, a Brisbane mining executive.

The decision is a blow to former Newman government minister Scott Emerson, who had been angling to replace the 72-year-old senator who had previously joked about being removed from parliament “in a pine box”.

Senator O’Sullivan, an influential voice in the Nationals party room, will be replaced by Susan McDonald, 48 — the daughter of former party president Don McDonald and managing director of the Super Butcher retail chain.

Ms McDonald, from one of Queensland’s most esteemed farming families, would increase the proportion of women in the Nationals party room — currently two out of 21.

The clip shows an individual later identified as 30-year-old Jimenez Kino saying, “You ain’t supporting shit nigga!” before he throws the drink on 16-year-old Hunter Richard’s face and then exclaims, “Bitch ass motherfucker!”
“This is gonna go right in my fucking fireplace, bitch,” Kino added as he walked away waving the distinctive red Trump hat….
Thanks to 4chan, the culprit was almost immediately identified and his employer was contacted.

I think State Council sent a message to the hierarchy and sitting MPs.

A few notes. I first mentioned Susan McDonald months ago. I also informed Cat this week an upset was possible and momentum was building against O’Sullivan.

On the lib spots, while the media was treating this as Macdonald vs Emerson, I noted weeks ago Scarr was in front. Media eventually caught on. I will remind people that just this week I called that Emerson would be out early and last three would be Scarr Macdonald and one of Rennick or Harding. I was correct.

I was also right pretty correct about spot 3. I said Carswell was not a contender despite the media reports and that Rennick was a contender. Harding did better than I expected though.

Im pointing this out to show Im not posting for any candidate’s or factions favour. I’m just assessing and relaying information I receive.

I didn’t realise that Japan has the death penalty, nor that they do it by hanging.

Oh yeah, they don’t mess around. The Christian tenets that mobilise to engage and suppress the death penalty don’t exist there.

But the stories that leak out about what the prisons are like…ahem…impress upon others the desirability of not doing anything that might land you in prison.

I remember how someone dying from a ruptured bowel revealed one of their disciplinary measures was to strap an inmate down and deploying a firehose up his sphincter.

Even the lesser measures of discipline were frightening. Like having to kneel seas for hours staring at a point on the wall, with flagging attention reinvigorated with a bamboo rod.

    ..
Rolled up like that it is probably thin steel from a mill for use in making corrigated steel or shit like that.
A guess only, because you can’t see much detail.
Rolled steel refers to how many different profiles can be made in a rolling mill.
i.e rolled between rollers to form the profile shape: Flat, round, angle, i- beams etc etc.
Rolling is a process, not a finished product.
Hasn’t got to do with steel being rolled up like what that appears to be.
If the rolled steel is in bar form you can machine parts out of it in a lathe.
If it is an i- beam you would fabricate bridges and shit from it.

The outlandish commentary headlined, “I stopped going to the gym because of Trump. Now I can’t open jars,” was written by Brigid Delaney, who is a senior writer for Guardian Australia. She explained that after losing a wager on the 2016 presidential election to the owner of her gym, she was forced to pull a sled in an event that appears to have been equal parts show of strength and humiliation. “I pulled the sled like a human oxen while being filmed and the gym staff cheered. I did it. But the Trump victory soured my successful show of strength,” Delaney wrote. “Yeah, I could pull a pretend sled. But how was that going to help me when the world had been destroyed by nuclear weapons or climate change?” Delaney then complains of a bad meal she ate while sulking about Trump defeating Hillary Clinton and decided that she wouldn’t work out any more – somehow blaming Trump for her decision.

  179. Leigh Lowe

Seems he heard an astounding news and reported them to the Aus government as he should have.

    Um, not exactly.
He reported it to US State who passed it to the FBI.
Canberra became aware when they were asked to approve a formal interview with Downer by the FBI sometime later. Maybe Trumble and Skeletor knew about it through back-channels, but not formally.
I suspect that the grub was in on it from the get-go.
Why the fuck would someone like him meet with a non-entity like Papadopoulos?

I’m not going because I am still a touch delicate and the sight of ironed jeans or a mankini may tip me over the edge into insanity again.
    Also I haven’t been invited.

Gawd, the loathsome, lank-haired Jenny Macklin.

When I worked at PM&C, her bestie Meredith Burgman was the Dep Sec in charge of social policy. It was all about ‘evidence based policy’, which turned out to be ‘evidence’ produced by mates who were given lucrative consultancy contracts to produce the correct answers.

It was all about social engineering to create the perfect society.

Vale, Jenny Macklin, who will be in clover on a taxpayer funded pension until the end.

I wil go to London again for the #FreeTommy rally on Whitehall. July 14th.

    By coincidence, Bastille Day.

In the spirit of Bastille Day, the poms needs to storm Westminster, storm wherever the London mayor resides, throw him in the Thames, free Tommy, then throw a party for Trump who arrives on the 13th. Sorted, guvnor.

Why aren’t we sending our best cave rescue guy to Thailand?
Someone get Shorten over there ASAP.

  200. johanna

Yep, thinking of those kids in that cave in Thailand, with more rain in the offing. Poor little beggars.

Their situation must be very dire, as the creme de la creme of many nations’ rescue teams are there, but nobody has an answer. It’s not a question of lack of resources or expertise.

A bunch of kids in a soccer team go caving with their coach, and almost two weeks later, they are stuck down there. Mother Nature is very unforgiving, Gaia lovers.

  210. C.L.

    Wow.
Bill Shorten has advised a man accused of never having done anything to resign.
    Bill. Shorten.

In a report about the Australian Bishops’ Conference telling Wilson to accept the utterly fatuous conviction:

Archbishop Philip Wilson’s closest bishop colleagues have advised him to resign after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten called for his resignation following his jail sentence on Tuesday.

Australian Catholic Bishops Conference president Archbishop Mark Coleridge confirmed a number of Australian bishops had “offered their advice privately”, after Wilson’s refusal to resign was widely condemned on Wednesday when he announced his decision to appeal his conviction for concealing child sex allegations.

“A number of survivors, prominent Australians and other members of the community have publicly called on Archbishop Wilson to resign,” Archbishop Coleridge said in a statement today.

“Although we have no authority to compel him to do so, a number of Australian bishops have also offered their advice privately. Only the Pope can compel a bishop to resign.”

Australia’s bishops respected Archbishop Wilson’s right to lodge an appeal but “we also recognise the ongoing pain this has caused survivors, especially those who were abused by Jim Fletcher”, Archbishop Coleridge said…

In a statement several hours later Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said: “Resigning immediately is the very least he can do in this circumstance.”

From the bishops’ conference that refused to get involved in the marriage war.
    Totally gutless.

  211. C.L.

Archbishop Wilson will appeal, by the way.

Does someone know anything about steel? This is a pic of what they call rolled steel. Is this the finished product or is it then lathed or melted to create steel objects.
    https://images.wsj.net/im-17031?width=1260&aspect_ratio=1.5

Those are steel coils and look to be about 12-20mm thick. It will most probably be levelled and cut to become flat plate. It could also be cold rolled to thinner gauge and turned into all sorts of sheet metal products. Maybe rolled and welded to form tube shapes. Unlikely to be turned into structural sections like I beams.

DL has demonstrated how he treats women as second class citizens and how “entitled” he is. As Stephanie has written above, he may have just initiated a tide of change, and I am excited of the good that will come out of this despicable act by DL.

Clock rates have hit the wall in CPU design, as you might have noticed looking at the GHz doesn’t show much excitement during the past 5 to 10 years or so.

In a nutshell, when you oscillate electrons you make waves, and if you want your circuit to remain coherent you need to stay inside the physical shape of the wave so as the clock goes faster, the wave gets smaller and you need to shrink everything and now we have shrunk it so bad we have transistors only a few atoms wide. Thus when you can’t make the clock faster what you can do:

    * Move from 32 bit designs to 64 bit designs (done!)
    * Hey, why not 128 bit designs? (kind of done with MMX, etc)
    * More cores (done!)
    * Specialist computing cores to offload graphics (GPU, done!)
    * Offload everything else you can think of (network:done! solid state drive:done!)
    * Offload the whole box and dice to server farms and have a web browser as endpoint (that’s Facebook, etc so already done)

Some things we haven’t done (yet):
    * Focus on programming efficiency and avoid stacking up BS features no one wants (management doesn’t like it and cost too much in wages).
    * Abandon clock coherence completely (wave pipelining and other technologies that verge on insanity)
    * Abandon Von-Neumann architecture (slowly happening but also tends to cause insanity).
