Richardson and Latham seemed like two angry blokes with raised voices talking over each other. From what I saw and I could not understand anything much they said.

Pretty angry they were, but I think Latham should be careful because G. Richardson’s health. He could just keel over with stress and his terrible health body situation.

I note that orange has long been the colour of my Dutch culture. A bit of brightness in the dark.

    Johanna – Orange is fun.

HOME SAFETY : Vintage Orange Dishware Poses Threat From Radon Gas

The bright orange Fiesta dishware that many Americans use and collect could be giving off enough radon gas to pose a significant health risk, a geologist says.

“When we test homes and look for radon, we always suppose it comes from the ground,” said Rudolph Hon of Boston College. “Maybe we need to make the public aware that some of it can be coming from the cabinet.”

Fiesta ceramics made before 1972 “should be always considered as suspect” in homes where radon levels are high, concluded Hon and a graduate student, Christopher Zeman, in a paper presented recently in Binghamton, N.Y., to a meeting of the Geological Society of America.

The dishes’ radioactive properties–gamma ray emissions from uranium-based paint in the bright orange variety–have been known for decades. The finding that the paint is also producing significant amounts of radon gas is new, Hon said.

When the Manhattan Project started up the government confiscated Fiesta’s supply of uranium make the atom bomb from.

    Radioactive glazes

In practice the “danger” is basically nil. But the whole story is fun since uranium was widely used in glazes and glass.

    Oil field for a dollar.

ROG red sky energy, a minnow that has been a gamble chip for years, then recently sitting as a listed shell, with oil and gas sector paperwork waiting for a project.

Not mentioning this as a punt, because it will need to raise capital and it will be shareprice games until it is settled.

The interesting thing is that Beach were willing to sell the oilfield for a dollar, so as to take the unfunded liability of decommissioning the project off their books,

We look at the massive unfunded liabilities of decommissioning the wind and solar projects that have flooded the country and wonder who is going to pay for all this when the time comes?.

[BPT beach were legitimate, and have sold to a company that can raise the capital to meet the regulations.]

The Stawell tyre pile was sold to a Panamanian shelf company and decommissioned by the taxpayer.

I wouldn’t be keen to be the landowner renting ground that had windmills built on it to a shelf company in Panama, last man standing pays for the cleanup.

Great news from Thailand, even better that they pissed off the vultures of the media.

As I said above, stupid Westerners often mistake Thai courtesy for weakness. They couldn’t be more wrong.

People here and in the US are fixated on Roe v Wade, as though that is the defining issue in US constitutional politics. Never mind the bollocks, how does he or she feel about abortion.

In fact, if Roe etc was turned over, all it would mean is individual States could make the rules. What’s wrong with that?

The fixation on abortion here and elsewhere continually distorts debate.

Channel Seven has chosen the respected Alison Mitchell as one of its head callers for the next Australian domestic Test series, describing the decision to include a female commentator as “long overdue”.

Mitchell will be one of Seven’s three ball-by-ball callers during its first season of broadcasting Test cricket, joining Tim Lane and James Brayshaw.

While all of you are distracted by a female caller you miss the fact they have James Brayshaw!

Abortion is a dumb low-IQ issue that achieves nothing except to divide white voters. Waste of time. Large majority of people want some restrictions without a total ban, which is what there is now. Time to move onto issues that haven’t been resolved in the public’s favour, like immigration.

With the vampires corralled 3km away, they will surely bide their time picking holes in this blatant use of intrusive medicine. What was it? Who authorised it? What are the side effects? Will the boys become addicts? Was parental consent given?

  32. Gab

    Interesting.

McCorvey (pseudonym Jane Roe) was 22, unmarried, unemployed and pregnant for the third time when in 1969 she sought to have an abortion in Texas, where the procedure was illegal except to save a woman’s life. The subsequent lawsuit, known as Roe v. Wade, led to Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling that established abortion rights, though by that time, McCorvey had given birth and given her daughter up for adoption.

She swung back the other way later in life.

Decades later, McCorvey underwent a conversion, becoming an evangelical Christian and joining the anti-abortion movement. A short time later, she underwent another religious conversion and became a Roman Catholic.

“I’m 100 percent pro-life. I don’t believe in abortion even in an extreme situation. If the woman is impregnated by a rapist, it’s still a child. You’re not to act as your own God,” she told The Associated Press in 1998.

After the court’s ruling, McCorvey had lived quietly for several years before revealing herself as Jane Roe in the 1980s. She also confessed to lying when she said the pregnancy was the result of rape.

  37. Fisky

Agreed johanna/Fisky but the pro side have turned extremely ghoulish not to notice.

I support repealing Roe v. Wade, but only so as to get it off the political agenda and let the states decide what they want to do. The number 1 issue is and will for the foreseeable future be immigration. And as Ann Coulter has pointed out, if you get immigration wrong, it doesn’t matter at all what your other positions are, because they will be overwhelmed by the effects of immigration. Support an abortion ban? Not if every state flips Blue from amnesty. Want to raise education standards? Try doing that when every second kid is ESL. Etc.

Immigration is the only issue that matters.

  38. Fisky

Or I should say, all issues matter to some degree, but immigration is the ultimate meta-issue that overrides all the rest – change the population and you change everything else.

Daily Telegraph claims all the team is out of the cave.

  43. Fisky

I think Roe v. Wade will be a lot easier to repeal than the gay marriage decision. The problem with Obergefell v. Hodges is that a lot of people have already entered into marriages and have property rights and other arrangements that stem from their right to marry, so I’d say the Supreme Court will have a hard time picking through the consequences of repealing that. Taking out Roe v. Wade has no implications for past actions at all, and the effect will likely be blue states continuing to offer abortions anyway.

On the SCOTUS pick… I don’t know enough about the guy. My only complaint is that he said he was both “humbled” and “deeply honoured” to be nominated.

Well, which is it? Humbled or deeply honoured? Why do people who win awards and whatnot always spew bullshit about being humbled? Do they not understand what the word means?

Losing is humbling. Just missing out is humbling. Saying you’re humbled when you win an award or get a promotion (or a SCOTUS nomination) is insulting. Now, if you say, “I must remain humble despite this honour”, that’s one thing. Or even just declare that you are humble… but to say that you are HUMBLED – that the award itself is humbling – is retarded.

Oh, and I’ll add: I’m glad Mike Lee didn’t get the nod. He’s supported by Cruz and Rand Paul – and is supposedly a strong constitutionalist – but would he really be? You see, he showed how he waivers when he called for CANDIDATE Trump to step down. One month prior to the election.

Now, some might think it’s petty for Trump to disqualify him on that basis – but frankly, it shows how quickly he (Mike Lee) would abandon the cause when it suits him.

I just wonder about the practicalities of Pru Gowards proposed changes to sexual consent rules which call for an absolute and unambiguous “yes” before proceeding.

All fine in theory. And in a perfect world a comendable goal. After all, no one should be forcing themselves on another human being against their will.

The trouble is real life is messy and imprecise.

For example, will you have to seek approval at each step along the way?

Presumably at any point along the usual path to intecourse you could be held to have proceeded without consent if you didn’t get a clear signal in the form of a “yes”. A murmur or sigh wouldn’t cut it.

A minefield. From my experience on jury panels nothing is ever straight forward in these matters.

Feminist Apparel CEO Fires Entire Staff After They Learn He’s An Admitted Sexual Abuser

It all came to a grinding halt in June of 2018 when Feminist Apparel staff discovered that the brand’s founder and CEO Alan Martofel had an admitted history of sexually abusing women…[a]fter asking for his resignation, all nine employees were fired without notice or severance.

Come on that is freaking hilarious.

“This is the patriarchy and toxic masculinity at its fucking finest,” says Rebecca Green, the company’s now-former art director. “I feel righteous and angry. I feel supported by my coworkers and friends. I also feel tired. I feel incredibly sorry knowing that there are survivors in this office who were led to believe that their contributions to this company were directly going to creating a safe space and platform for survivors, feminists, and marginalized identities. As an artist myself creating work based on my own experiences with the patriarchy, toxic masculinity, and harassment for this company — and by extension this man — I feel used and willfully mislead.”

    bwahahahahahaahahahahahahhaha

Oh sure the CEO guy sounds like a xunt. But so do his (former) employees. I mean, seriously. How did they think that confrontation was going to go?

Righteous and angry staff: hey, boss! We know about your past! You disgust us! We demand you resign, effective immediately!

Boss: all right, let me hand in my gun and badge. Hang on, I just remembered – I own this company. You’re all fired.

    Righteous and angry staff: oh.

  140. Alan Martofel had an admitted history of sexually abusing women…

You mean he has been convicted numerous times or he’s just a slutty man who is very forward?

The modern equivocation of genuine sexual harassment with sexual assault and the marginal or redefined cases of sexual harassment is a terrible blight on society.

If he’s just been slut-shamed; they got their comeuppance. If “slut shaming” only applies to women, the whole concept is misandtrist.

  141. Leigh Lowe

You mean he has been convicted numerous times or he’s just a slutty man who is very forward?

They obviously forgot, or never learned, the Golden Rule.

  144. Oh come on

Oh yeah, you’re right, dot. I should have kept reading. It seems the “sexual abuse” was just some crap about him admitting he’d shimmied up against women while dancing in clubs, kissed drunk girls and a bunch of fairly standard shit most youngsters get up to. All the more hilarious! And this is priceless:

The response echos something many of the former employees have pointed out: Martofel’s ignorance about what it means to be an ally. Many claim that he centered the company’s feminist pursuits around himself, often putting his opinions first and ignoring the requests and advice of people of color, queer people, and survivors, including in campaigns geared towards those groups.

These people seem genuinely confused about the conventional and appropriate roles the owner of a company has.

“I feel like with many brands of allyship, there is an enormous miscommunication over who should be given voice. Alan seemed to feel that his voice should come first,” says Claire Quigley, who was a graphic designer at the company until the firing.

He owns the damn company, sweetheart. Start your own company and you’ll get to have your voice come first.

“The strongest way to be an ally would be to NOT profit from feminism or survivors of sexual assault,” says Grogan.

Did you accept a paycheck for working there, Groges? Hypocrite.

In m0nty’s fucked up world, a creepy doctor who grabs at the crotches of young strong adult males who are easily able to repel his advances and laugh about it later is “Jerry Sandusky on steroids”. Scene: it’s the early-mid 1930s. Stalin has begun his program to collectivise Soviet agriculture and the peasants are starving by the tens of million. In a cropless field somewhere in famine-stricken Ukraine, a skeletal peasant falls upon a pile of ox dung. Digging through it hungrily with his bare hands, he finally parses from the shit a half-digested piece of grain of an indeterminable type. He sticks it between his molars and grinds it carefully into paste before swallowing. Yes! He will now likely live another day thanks to the nutrients that piece of ox poo have provided.

That peasant is you, m0nty, desperately trying to make it through the Trump era.

The famine will get you in the end, though.

Nigel Farage is saying he will return as UKIP leader if Tory MPs don’t stop their Brexit sellout:

I never wanted a career in politics. I only ever wanted to stop the country I love being sucked further into a political and economic union which is most unnatural to the instincts of the majority of my fellow citizens. However, my own red line is that if Article 50 is suspended or delayed, I will have no choice but to resume campaigning in all parts of the United Kingdom. In March 2019, the current leader of Ukip, Gerard Batten, will reach the end of his term in office. Unless Brexit is back on track by then, I will have to seriously consider putting my name forward to return as Ukip leader. I never thought I would say that again, but the government’s sell-out leaves me with no choice. The latest Brexit betrayal must be reversed.

  190. Do you know when the payment, first payment was made?
If before the campaign then what does it matter, and even if not how do you know it was campaign funds?

The $130k was paid during the campaign, Mark A. October.

  191. Oh come on

This is where your argument lies OCO, and you are taking a mighty big risk. These things usually end with harrowing descriptions of deviant conduct. The doctor is long dead so there is no good reason for these wrestlers to upend their lives like this… unless what they are saying is true.

I’m not taking a mighty big risk at all. Even if what they are saying is true – and there are very credible reasons to think it’s dubious – even in the worst case it is nothing close to “Sandusky on steroids”, you sick freak.

You’re just a dummy, m0nty. Jim Jordan was 21 at the time – one of 100+ staff on the wrestling team, a junior coach. How much contact do you reckon he would have had with the team doctor? You’re so desperate for some epic scandal to finally sink the GOP, however this isn’t “Sandusky on steroids” and it isn’t going to hurt Jim Jordan.

  192. JC

The $130k was paid during the campaign, Mark A. October.

Lets say that payment was made. Ask yourself this. What prosecutor is there to make the case the payment was made to protect Trump from campaign fallout or the other possibility – that he wanted the story to go away to protect his wife and family?

    Go!

  193. Oh come on

You are indeed a sorry spectacle, m0nty. Look at the petty garbage you’re plying here. For argument’s sake, let’s assume the worst:

    – $130k was paid to Stormy Daniels as hush money in October 2016 – it’s Trump’s money funnelled through a proxy and it’s a violation of campaign finance law.

    – Trump did have sex with Daniels in 2005 not long after Barron was born.

    – Tom Brady took it upon himself to threaten Daniels in a gym car park in 2011.

OK, Tom Brady’s probably in some trouble. The violation of campaign finance law is chickenfeed – nothing will come of this. The AEC might fine the 2016 Trump campaign in a couple of years over it. Trump had sex with a porn star – whoop de frickin’ do. We are talking about Donald Trump. Nobody who voted for him is shocked about that, let alone cares about that. I know you so so so want them to be shocked and to care, but they aren’t and they don’t. They just don’t.

  194. BorisG

What prosecutor is there to make the case the payment was made to protect Trump from campaign fallout or the other possibility – that he wanted the story to go away to protect his wife and family?

Given how close to the election it was made, this is obvious.

Also Bill Clinton also lied to protect his family etc (or himself from family). That got him to impeachment.

  195. BorisG

The worst thing that Trump’s hush payment shows (Trump has pretty much admitted of making it via Cohen) is that he is capable of such idiotic things. To make such a payment in the hope that this will bury the issue is an incredible brain fart. Regardless whether they slept etc.

Of course you can say that he became POTUS, so this was smart. If that is your thinking, it does underscore that this was crucial for his election, which means he is in some trouble.

I agree that his base does not care about any of this. But he needs more than his base to win elections. The swing voter may not like that their president is a fraudster and a liar, even if this does not rise to the level of criminality.

  196. BorisG

    I have a feeling that

    1) Cohen knows where lots of skeletons are hidden, of which Stormy Daniels is just a tip of the iceberg.
    2) he will reveal at least some of this, though this will take time (see Flynn);
    3) he will be portrayed by the Trump team as a liar;
    4) Cat trumpists will agree that he is worse than Clinton, Comey and Mueller combined,
    5) but wasn’t he Trump’s loyal aide for many years? No this is fake news; he was no more than a coffee man…

I have no idea if this will reveal any smoking gun but this will be a great circus for sure.

    Good night guys!

  197. BorisG

demanding money to remain silent- is very likely to be construed as blackmail.

If she indeed demanded, yes. both sides may be prosecuted.

  198. Oh come on

The worst thing that Trump’s hush payment shows (Trump has pretty much admitted of making it via Cohen) is that he is capable of such idiotic things. To make such a payment in the hope that this will bury the issue is an incredible brain fart. Regardless whether they slept etc.

What we’re told is that Cohen was on a retainer from Trump to deal with such matters independently. Daniels shopped the story around a bunch of tabloid magazines, and no one was interested. Whatever Cohen offered her at the time was apparently the best offer she got. She wasn’t much value to the Hillary campaign – recall that, in October, everyone expected Hillary to win. The Hillary campaign had already framed its attack on Trump as a sexual predator. A tawdry story about a consensual liaison with a porn star could easily suck oxygen from the stories of Trump’s alleged female victims, which the Hillary campaign would have wanted to highlight. Only after the election, and in the spectre of Hillary’s defeat, does the consideration that perhaps Stormy might have swung it for Hills emerge. Maybe. On the other hand, maybe it might have resulted in a more substantial defeat, because it could have obscured another, more compelling story of Trump predation of women and lessened its impact, whilst not making up the difference. That is possible, too.

Thus it is specious to look back in hindsight and declare that had the Stormy Daniels story emerged in Oct 2016, Trump would likely have lost the election. No, this cannot be claimed with any authority. Daniels shopped her story around plenty – presumably Hillary’s team knew about it and decided not to run with it as it didn’t fit with their campaign strategy. Even if they didn’t know, it is very, very far from a sure thing that Stormy Daniels gets noticed in October 2016, given the crescendo of media noise generated by the two campaigns at that stage in the election cycle. Who cares that some obscure porn star says she had consensual sex with Trump a decade ago? These women are claiming he sexually assaulted them! and so on.

The swing voter may not like that their president is a fraudster and a liar, even if this does not rise to the level of criminality.

They’ve already made a decision about his moral character – it’s baked into the pie. If the Trump economy extends to his second campaign, the swing voter in 2016 isn’t going to give this the slightest thought in 2020.

  199. Huh? Are our resident leftists suddenly gittin’ all moralistic & wholesome about adultery?

As someone who used to ride along with the left’s fashionable nonsense, it’s not until you remove yourself from it that you begin to observe the left’s deadly intentions in the 21st century.

For most of the past half century, it has been a cornerstone strategy of the US left to control the Supreme Court in order to bypass Congress, subvert the Constitution and have SCOTUS legislate the left’s agenda from the bench.

That is why the left’s reaction to the rebalancing of SCOTUS to reflect the values of ordinary Americans and to respect the Constitution has been so hysterical: since the 1960s, SCOTUS has been a key centre of the left’s political power, no matter who was in the White House.

I think the left’s hysteria to Kavanaugh’s nomination and the inevitable smear campaign that will follow is a major learning moment for every American with even just a passing interest in politics.

Well said, Struth. Trump’s personality is not my fave (although it’s hard to tell given the media take out) but his policies are just what is needed. However, I wish I could think that more people understood the ways and results of the left. As Tom says above, you have to have been there to really comprehend how insidious it is. I take heart from the fact that a good many on the Cat were once, as I was, committed lefties. Slowly, slowly, the political change comes upon you, and it is true that it is happening to more people now. People like Mark Latham show ordinary people that it is possible to think differently. All power to him, wild canon that he can sometimes be. And all power to Catallaxy too. Talking (and joking) with others really does help. Here and in meet ups.

Nick (I think it was you, apologies if I am wrong) – part of the process is enjoying yourself here so sniping at others for no real reason is a bit off, imho, although plenty do it. I think save it for trolls. Thus, for me, if in meeting other Kittehs I share simple hints of what we all wore and our handbag discussions, well that is women for you. Moved shearing forward today, the team had a cancellation.

Feed budgets being rejigged, the alltime high prices are tempting, usually the formula is that you have to feed stock through the feed crunch, then after the seasonal break the prices rise to peak levels.

Peak prices going into a feed crunch are an incentive to shear and sell.

Until recently, the feed budgets were to supplementary feed rations to stock until spring feed flush, then refill grain and hay storages. The downside feed budget is now to feed until mid august, have a month or six weeks off, then resume feeding until april. Feed reserves to stretch out to cover 6 out of the next 8 months, without a top-up.

Victorian fodder reserves have been feeding a lot of new south wales livestock, but this is about to tighten up as the new feed budgets get pencilled in.

Auctionsplus, ebay for sheep, had more passed in unsold stock this week than expected. showers for the week will help, but alltime high prices are too good to pass up, when each sheep in the paddock is a potential fifty dollar a head feed liability to get through to april. [ they will grow close to this in wool, so breakeven in dollars and some activity to fill the days, weeks and months in].

At current pricing, wheat from England could be imported to feed sheep in Australia economically, so the wool boom has solved that problem.

I promised you I would only appoint justices in the mold of the late, great Justice Antonin Scalia.

Last night, I once again fulfilled that promise by appointing a strong constitutionalist, the Honorable Brett M. Kavanaugh, to the Supreme Court.

Judge Kavanaugh will protect our religious liberties, uphold the rule of law, and interpret the Constitution as it was originally understood by our Founders.

Senate liberals know that we have the opportunity to reshape the Supreme Court for an entire GENERATION, and they are ready to obstruct and unleash a smear campaign against our nominee.

Just like during Justice Gorsuch’s confirmation hearings, we need to remind Democrats to stop playing politics and to put America FIRST.

Trump’s timing on Kavanaugh is excellent.

It will take about one month for the full “Progressive” outrage brigade to get up their full head of steam, then the backlash against that will be building nicely and Oh! mid-term elections in October. Since mid-terms are traditionally low turn out, Trump doesn’t need to convince the base who to vote for, he just needs to get them riled up so any loud and obnoxious leftist behaviour that Trump can provoke will serve his purpose very well.

I expect at least a few more deliberate provocations coming soon, and for sure the left will fall for it hook line and sinker.

Will be a lot of grain grown in Australia this year, got friends sitting on the perfect storm of good prices and good yield potential, but without a spring wetting upof the soil moisture profile to extend the growing season out a bit, the exportable surplus will be far lower than is currently predicted.

ASX listed hay exporters may battle for throughput, niche grain exporters have to do it tough for a bit.

Back in the old farm truck days, the old trucks get used less in a tight season, but don’t have a great opportunity cost. Now in Crony Safe Truck Australia, it is a massive capital/rego/maintenance beast sitting unused in the truckshed.

Worst thing about a rejigged feed budget and selling down sheep into alltime high prices is having to drag the boomspray out the shed and return to being a ‘cancer jockey’ grain cropper and sprayer next season, until the flock can be bred back up again.
