Then we’re gonna need ink analysis and a full psychological assessment of and proposed treatment plan for the signatories.

While Mr Turnbull “verifies” the 43 signatures … Mr Morrison is being given time to act
    Angelo Risso

The Treasurer’s supporters are confident momentum is building within the Liberal Party for him to become Australia’s next prime minister.

Mr Morrison’s backers are claiming former communications minister Mitch Fifield, a senior Victorian conservative, has drifted towards their camp.

WA Liberal MP Ben Morton, who wants Mr Morrison to become prime minister, is keen to bring the showdown to a head. “Scott Morrison has experience in both national security portfolios and as treasurer of this nation,” Mr Morton told reporters.

What I think would be really great is if Turnbull’s very first statement to that meeting is to tell them that he has referred Dutton to the High Court to properly determine his s44 eligibility.

It’s his last blackmail attempt. Signatories know the list will be passed to Photios and co. who are the gatekeepers for the PPP (Post Parliamentary Perks). Anyone signing that piece of paper knows they will be forever blocked from the lucrative post-parliamentary Board positions and other sinecures. So any MP’s in marginal seats who know they might be out next year will want to look after their own interests and ensure they get those three or four ~$75k p.a Board seats. Remember how Brazil, Ecuador and Peru condemned Arizona over illegal immigration in 2010?
    By Monica Showalter

Remember how Arizona Governor Jan Brewer got piled on by 17 Latin American nations in 2010, condemning her state for attempting to enforce federal immigration law based on the reality that Arizona was being overrun by illegals and the Obama administration was doing nothing? It was bad enough that the Obama administration sued her state to end the law, something it only did with partial success. But then Latin states such as Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador joined the fun, piously weighing in to sign on to a highly questionable Friend of the Court brief led by Mexico, condemning Arizona for trying to enforce U.S. immigration law.

Scroll forward to 2018. Now the shoe is on the other tootsie.

Because right now, those are the very nations pulling up the drawbridge to illegals as their own countries get inundated by vast human waves of Venezuelans flooding over their borders without papers.

Ecuador has announced that anyone entering its country is going to need a passport. No more entries without papers, given that 500,000 of them have already gotten in. “This is going to skyrocket,” said one Ecuadoran official. After that, Peru, which just recently saw 5,000 Venezuelan border crossings without papers in one day, announced the same bid to enforce borders. It follows from Colombia tightening its passport requirements, and both Colombia and Brazil just plain sealing their borders to make the human waves stop. Chile, too, tightened entry rules after it got flooded. The latest news is that Brazil is now deploying troops to fight the migrants.

Comically, Colombia, which has pretty much let all comers in and expected them to fan out across the continent, says it is upset about Peru’s and Ecuador’s new passport requirements, because, well, they now get to keep the million or so people who had been ready to move onward. (More than 2 million Venezuelans have fled socialism, most running to the first place they could find, which was Colombia, but they have also overrun Brazil). It probably doesn’t help that a Colombian judge recently ruled that the incomers were fully entitled to the benefits of Colombia’s vast health care system without having paid anything in. The U.S. has just dispatched a hospital ship to the Colombian coast to help pick up the pieces, given that Colombia is otherwise a good American ally.

While I pity the plight of these sick Venezuelan refugees from socialism and fully support the U.S. mercy mission, there is also the main issue of why these countries don’t want to be overrun. Like the illegals who rolled into Arizona that Colombia and the others had such tough words for, quite a few of these people are criminals who have wrought havoc on the countries they invaded. It’s gotten so bad that in one Brazilian town, the locals literally ran them all out of town.

Which was exactly what happened in Arizona.

Yet these were the very countries that condemned Arizona for wanting to enforce simple federal immigration law in the wake of the Obama administration’s opposition to it.

They piled on, they condemned Arizona, and they did Mexico’s bidding, telling Arizona that it had no right to enforce immigration laws and the interests of illegals should reign supreme. Based on what they claimed, no cop has a right to stop a person suspected to be in the country illegally, because, well, they have to stand up for their nationals and potential human rights violations (in their countries where locals had none) were just too important.

Their hypocrisy is now evident in their new passport requirements and desperate efforts to halt the human waves, even with border shutdowns and troops.

What’s more, it’s compounded by the fact that for years, they defended the ‘sovereignty’ of Venezuela’s socialist hellhole even as it was ever more obvious that human waves would be the final result. They defended Venezuela against Bad Gringo in the Organization of American States, they stood up for that dump when President Trump let it get out that invasion was on the table, they defended Chavez at the various Summits of the Americas, and they denied there was any sort of problem that might just come back to bite them in the butt.

Their farsighted ‘thinking’ has brought them the human waves, same human waves Arizona was raked over the coals for. An apology for that court stunt against Arizona is now just a little overdue.

People with criminal records urged to become magistrates

Chair of the Magistrates’ Association John Bache said it was “completely erroneous” that those with an old, minor criminal record would not be considered as candidates.

“We all make mistakes, we all do things we shouldn’t have done,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“But we want to increase diversity, and if we did say anyone who’s ever done anything wrong ever isn’t going to be appointed that’s no way at all to increase diversity.”

There are just 16,000 magistrates in England and Wales – less than half the number 20 years ago, Mr Bache has previously said.

The role sees volunteers hear cases in criminal and family courts on issues like minor assaults, motoring offences and arranging for children to be taken into care.

Currently 12% of magistrates are from black or minority backgrounds, while only 4% are under 40, compared to 55% aged over 60.

‘Get stuffed’, Italy’s deputy PM Salvini tells stranded migrants

    By Philip Willan
    The Times
    9:33AM August 24, 2018

Italy’s interior minister told 150 migrants spending an eighth day on the Mediterranean to “get stuffed” as he sought to bolster his dominance of Rome’s populist government.

Matteo Salvini, the League leader and deputy prime minister, had relented and allowed 27 unaccompanied migrants among the 190 on an Italian coastguard ship off the coast of Catania to disembark. Thirteen people in poor health were landed on Lampedusa.

However, he made clear that the remainder, picked up in Maltese waters on August 16, were unwelcome. “In Italy, no way, like in Australia,” he said in a live interview on Facebook filmed on a phone. “You don’t set foot illegally in Italy or Europe.”

    Morrison profiled:

Loyal lieutenant’s rapid rise up Liberal leadership ladder

    BRAD NORINGTON
    ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Scott Morrison’s rise up the Liberal leadership ladder has been remarkably quick and efficient.

Aside from any innate political talents, his elevation to key ministerial roles — to the point that he is today a serious contender for the top job — is also a reflection of the tribulations of his party. In large part, Morrison is the product of a leadership revolving door that has dogged the Liberals, and Labor too, for a decade.

At 50, elected to parliament for the first time in 2007 when the Coalition was thrown into a six-year spell in opposition, Morrison has now held the key portfolios of immigration minister, social services minister and now Treasurer.

It has been as Malcolm Turnbull’s Treasurer, a common springboard position for any aspiring leader, that Morrison has boosted his profile to household name status. But it was as Tony Abbott’s immigration minister, as the man who turned back the boats and seemingly adopted an uncompromising stance, giving little or no public information out about the implementation of Operation Sovereign Borders, where Morrison earned his reputation as a tough operator critical to the Coalition’s political success.

It was perhaps fortuitous for Morrison that Abbott moved him out of immigration to social services in a 2014 reshuffle: Morrison was handed the opportunity to broaden his image, and not be saddled with a reputation as a harsh, negative, one-dimensional figure of the sort that has hurt Peter Dutton’s appeal factor with many voters the longer he spent in the job.

As Treasurer, Morrison has been fortunate to preside over a healthy if at times sluggish economy. His budgets, unlike those of predecessor Joe Hockey, have been generally well received. He is from the churchgoing conservative Right of the party, with social views not dissimilar to those of Dutton, but he has remained loyal to the more moderate Turnbull.

Abbott became most agitated with Morrison in 2015 when he felt Morrison ran dead, or did not do enough, to support his prime ministership from an assault by the Turnbull conspirators.

Morrison is not without other critics, especially in the media. His run-ins with broadcasters Ray Hadley and Alan Jones have been spectacular, and tensions could continue if Morrison becomes prime minister today. The frequent complaint about Labor politicians is they are often party hacks recruited from the campaign machine. Morrison is the Liberal equivalent, if there is one.

Despite stints with the Property Council and Australian Tourism Taskforce, it was his years as a NSW state party director from 2000 to 2004 that most defined his political pedigree and style, and helped his party connections.

He was a protege of Bruce Baird and took Baird’s seat in Sydney’s south. Through the years of Abbott and Turnbull wrangling in opposition and then government, Morrison rose through the frontbench ranks as a loyalist of one and then the other.

    WHO IS SCOTT MORRISON?

    * Appointed to the front bench by federal Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull in 2008 * Took on shadow minister for immigration and citizenship in 2009 following Tony Abbott’s leadership spill

    * Appointed by Tony Abbott as Minister for Immigration and Border Protection from September 2013, then Minister for Social Services from December 2014

    * After Malcolm Turnbull replaced Tony Abbott as prime minister he was made Treasurer from September 2015

2 Long but fascinating Articles from RealClearInvestigations

Despite Comey Assurances, Vast Bulk of Weiner Laptop Emails Were Never Examined

When then-FBI Director James Comey announced he was closing the Hillary Clinton email investigation for a second time just days before the 2016 election, he certified to Congress that his agency had “reviewed all of the communications” discovered on a personal laptop used by Clinton’s closest aide, Huma Abedin, and her husband, Anthony Weiner.

At the time, many wondered how investigators managed over the course of one week to read the “hundreds of thousands” of emails residing on the machine, which had been a focus of a sex-crimes investigation of Weiner, a former Congressman.

Comey later told Congress that “thanks to the wizardry of our technology,” the FBI was able to eliminate the vast majority of messages as “duplicates” of emails they’d previously seen. Tireless agents, he claimed, then worked “night after night after night” to scrutinize the remaining material.

But virtually none of his account was true, a growing body of evidence reveals.

Teen arrests after armed thugs try to rob store with meat cleaver

A pair of Victorian teenagers are in police custody today after they allegedly tried to rob a suburban pizza shop with metal bars and a meat cleaver.

Police allege a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old boy and another male entered Slices Family Restaurant in Caroline Springs last night with weapons after 9.30pm while customers, including a seven-year-old girl, were still eating.

“Three males … allegedly entered the premises armed with metal bars and a meat cleaver, “ police said in a statement.

They allegedly threatened customers and tried, but failed, to get access to the till.

The staff were all in another part of the store at the time locking the back door.

The boys allegedly left with nothing and went on try rob a bottle shop in nearby Sydenham. But they were chased out by a staff member with a baseball bat.

Slices venue manager Melanie Ayres, who left 10 minutes before her shop was attacked, said crime in her suburb was “out of control” and that several stores had been robbed.

“There’s no way I would be let out at 9.30pm on a Thursday night when I was 16,” she said, “where are the parents? These kids around here are out of control.”

Ms Ayres has lived in the area most of her life and said she’s noticed an uptick in youth crime in the past five years and noted a recent brawl in Taylors Hill where gangs of African-Australian youths fought over a girl.

“There was that riot in Taylors Hill and now this,” she said, “people around here are scared sh*tless.”

Supervisor Ray Jalloul said the young girl, a regular and Caroline Springs local, was still traumatised by the attack on Slices. He wants a clamp down on out-of-control youths.

“They need tougher penalties, quite a few shops around here have been targeted,” he said, “There are no boundaries.”

Mr Jalloul was at the shop last night when it was robbed but said he felt he had to come back despite his experience.

“This is my workplace, it’s my home,” he said, “We have to show the customers that we’re safe and that we’re making sure they’re safe.”

I think that the Joo haters tend to be loons who can not stay off the subject, and hate runs through their veins.

They are pure racists who seem to not be able to do anything but rave on about it.
We have racist sentiment expressed here, but anti-Semites are loons of the first order, and obsessed.

It’s not called a bird strike for nothing.

If this even under consideration it’s time to get the fuck out of the country.

Tony Abbott’s sister, city councillor Christine Forster, is considering a tilt for Liberal Party preselection.

    It’s done .

    Anne does excellent work here.

She would be very funny if she were merely posing as a fruitcake. But she is altogether too convincing, and I hear my old granny telling me “It is cruel to mock the afflicted.”

  211. pete m

JC, she is a local member and elected to the local council – why can’t she run?

I think it would be funny to sit her next to Tony on the backbench.

What’s the bet they will be out on bail by tonight?

The suggestion is to run under the illiberal banner.

Tony Abbott’s sister, city councillor Christine Forster, is considering a tilt for Liberal Party preselection.

Tipped to take a run in Wentworth after Waffles pulls the pin, whenever that will be.
Still unsure if she’ll be running as a Greens or Labor candidate.
    Other Cats may know.

  215. pete m

jc – she is a member of the libs.

    Just read this at news:

Mr Turnbull’s department reportedly attempted to order departments to cut off IT and phones in the offices of ministers who quit yesterday, according to The Australian.
The newspaper reported a source suggested it was intended to stop them from communicating but the move was against usual protocol.

    What a complete toad.

  216. pete m

lol the former communications minister tried to kill communications despite 99% of them using WhatsApp and mobiles – total loser!

The suggestion is to run under the illiberal banner.

There are already far too many twisted leftie sickos in the parliamentary liberal party.

  218. DrBeauGan

    What a complete toad.

    And all bona fide liberals.

Mr Turnbull’s department reportedly attempted to order departments to cut off IT and phones in the offices of ministers who quit yesterday, according to The Australian.

That can’t be right. Mark Riley said there was “bullying in the corridors” of PH to get the 43 signatures.

And “certain people” should be ashamed of themselves.

  220. notafan

Hope all is well with you.

Sadly not Calli, not a health issue , just a living nightmare for my family that must be endured, because we have no choice but to so.

It will have an end, that is all I can say.

  221. calli

I have been prompted to pray for you and your family now and then, Nota. I will continue to do so.

Just catching up on things. I see people telling Clint to ‘f’ off and he has now been smited by Sinc. I knew I was right and wasn’t being over sensitive to his comment directed at me when I outed myself as a J*w. Some can smell an anti-semite a mile off. I can. Glad he is gone. Now back to the happenings today. Morrison? Seriously? He’s another Turnbull. I can’t see who can bring the Libs back to a conservative party. We are stuffed.

  223. notafan

    Much appreciated Calli

More Benefits from the Middle East

‘Camel flu’ scare in LEEDS: Patient is diagnosed with killer virus as health officials scramble to contact passengers who were on the same plane from the Middle East

A patient from the Middle East is being treated for the killer MERS virus in England, health officials have today confirmed.

MERS, caused by the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus, kills a third of those it strikes. It is considered one of the 10 most urgent threats to humanity by the World Health Organization, as it has no cure.

MERS often leaves patients battling symptoms of a common cold – but it can lead to pneumonia and kidney failure, which can both prove deadly.

It can be spread by touching infected camels or other humans struck down by the bug, although it is poorly understood by virologists.

Planning ahead for a Labor government in power but with Senate cross benchers to appease.

What should we do ideas, perhaps:

    1. minimise super – fed labour sees it as the last great financial resource and you bet the rules will be changed. SMSF big target

    2. residential investment properties – another cash cow for them – be careful of gearing

    3. trusts / company tax structures – I can see them going hard after trusts.

    4. interest rates – I’d factor in 1-2 % higher rates in planning

    5. energy prices skyrocketing – they will go hard on renewables and prices today will seem fair in comparison – put up more solar now. Why pay any energy bill at all?

    Just some brief thoughts.

Oh and 6. freedom of speech will be attacked like never before.

    Finkelstein on steroids.

Yes, Elle. He just needed to talk some more.

You never tell these types to shut up. With every word they reveal more of their heart, and their obsession. Once over the legal threshold though, it’s byebyes.
